When Clara took her five-year-old daughter Lila to a school interview this September, she hoped to see her laugh and play with other kids. Instead, Lila just sat alone in a corner, picking at her clothes and never looking up when a teacher talked to her. The teacher suggested that Lila might struggle with socializing. Clara felt worried — she’d never noticed this before — and left the school with a heavy heart.
As a nurse, Clara made a hard decision: she quit her job to fully focus on her daughter. She read many books and watched online videos to learn about kids who have trouble fitting in. “People like my daughter love repeating their behavior to calm themselves. Lila likes arranging her toys in a straight line over and over again. If she’s not troubling anyone, I let her be,” Clara says.
Despite her efforts, some neighbors often judged her parenting (育儿). Clara faced unkind words, but she stayed patient. She kept a small notebook to record what upset or pleased Lila — loud noises scared her, but soft music made her smile. She also encouraged Lila to join activities like painting and planting flowers.
Clara gave up the idea of “fixing” Lila. “I didn’t push her to talk more or play with others. I just wanted her to feel comfortable and grow in her own way,” she says. Today, Lila is more confident — she can say simple greetings, help water the flowers at home, and even share her paintings with the teacher.
Clara and her friend started a small group called “Little Stars Shine Too”. They shared Lila’s stories online to help other parents. Clara also wrote a guidebook to support parents of children with special needs. For her, the key is acceptance. “When you stop trying to fit your child into a box, you open the door to a new world,” she says.
4. What caused Clara to leave the school with a heavy heart?
A. Her regret at Lila’s performance. B. Her knowing about Lila’s condition.
C. Her poor preparations for the interview. D. Her failure to meet Lila’s headteacher.
5. What’s a feature of people like Lila according to Clara?
A. They are skilled at playing with toys. B. They are interested in specific activities.
C. They keep calm by repeating the same action. D. They need special attention from their families.
6. How does Clara help her daughter Lila?
A. By taking part in different activities. B. By creating a supportive environment.
C. By working together with her neighbors. D. By reflecting on daily mistakes regularly.
7. Who is the text probably written for?
A. Parents. B. Teachers. C. Nurses. D. Students.
B 5. C 6. B 7. A
根据第一段“The teacher suggested that Lila might struggle with socializing. Clara felt worried — she’d never noticed this before — and left the school with a heavy heart.(老师认为Lila可能在社交方面存在困难。Clara感到担忧——她以前从未注意到这一点——于是带着沉重的心情离开了学校)”可知,Clara的沉重心情源于首次意识到女儿的情况。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“People like my daughter love repeating their behavior to calm themselves.(像我女儿这样的人喜欢重复自己的行为来让自己平静下来)”可知,根据Clara的说法,像Lila这样的人会通过重复行为来保持平静。
根据第三段“Clara faced unkind words, but she stayed patient. She kept a small notebook to record what upset or pleased Lila — loud noises scared her, but soft music made her smile. She also encouraged Lila to join activities like painting and planting flowers.(Clara面对不友善的言论依然保持耐心。她备有一个小笔记本,记录让Lila不安或开心的事情——响亮的声音让她害怕,而轻柔的音乐却让她微笑。她还鼓励Lila参加绘画和种花等活动)”和第四段“I didn’t push her to talk more or play with others. I just wanted her to feel comfortable and grow in her own way(我没有强迫她多说话或和别人玩。我只是想让她感觉舒服,以她自己的方式成长)”可知,Clara通过观察需求、提供包容性活动和不强求改变,让Lila按自己的方式成长,这些表明Clara的核心方法是创造支持性的环境。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“They shared Lila’s stories online to help other parents. Clara also wrote a guidebook to support parents of children with special needs. For her, the key is acceptance.(他们在线分享了Lila的故事,以帮助其他家长。Clara还编写了一本指南,为有特殊需求孩子的父母提供支持。对她而言,关键在于接纳)”可知,文章讲述母亲Clara发现女儿Lila存在社交困难后,通过观察、接纳和创造包容环境帮助她成长,并呼吁其他家长理解特殊需求儿童。由此可知,文章的目标读者可能是父母。

While firemen race toward wildfires, a team of unlikely heroes spends every day making sure those fires never start in the first place.
In southern Spain, a group of donkeys has quietly become one of nature’s most effective wildfire prevention workers. By doing nothing more than eating dry grass and thick brush, the animals have helped reduce the vegetation (植被) that feeds dangerous fires in and around Doñana National Park, one of Europe’s most important protected natural areas.
The results have been stunning. After the group was introduced, the park went nine years without recording a single forest fire.
The four-legged firefighting team is part of a project led by the nonprofit El Burrito Feliz and supported by volunteers. Every day from March through November, the donkeys are led into hard-to-reach areas where firemen and heavy equipment often cannot easily operate. Instead of human tools, they rely on healthy appetites (胃口).
Working up to seven hours a day, the donkeys feed on dry grass that can easily cause wildfires during Spain’s hot, dry summers. Unlike cattle or sheep, donkeys are able to eat much tougher and drier plants, making them especially well suited for clearing areas likely to catch fire. The nonprofit calls them “herbivorous firemen”.
Among the group, Galileo has an especially unusual backstory. He was rescued as a young donkey in extremely poor health and spent his first few months in a dog shelter before eventually finding a home. According to his caretakers, he picked up a few dog-like habits along the way. Today, that special personality helps him lead the group as they walk around the countryside.
Their work has even attracted the attention of Spain’s Military Emergency Unit, whose members visited the project and adopted (领养) one of the donkeys in recognition of its service. Experts say the project shows how simple, natural solutions can bring about meaningful change.
8. What is the primary achievement of the donkeys?
A. They made grass grow better. B. They helped prevent forest fires.
C. They put out fires with firemen. D. They made the park known to the public.
9. What does the underlined word “stunning” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Amazing. B. Worrying. C. Expected. D. Uncertain.
10. Why are donkeys better for clearing fire-risk areas?
A. They move much faster. B. They eat drier plants.
C. They require less water. D. They can reach higher areas.
11. What does the Military Emergency Unit’s action suggest?
A. It values the donkeys’ work. B. It will run the project.
C. It plans to train more animals. D. It will stop using firemen.
B 9. A 10. B 11. A
根据第二段“In southern Spain, a group of donkeys has quietly become one of nature’s most effective wildfire prevention workers. By doing nothing more than eating dry grass and thick brush, the animals have helped reduce the vegetation (植被) that feeds dangerous fires in and around Doñana National Park, one of Europe’s most important protected natural areas. (在西班牙南部,一群驴已悄然成为大自然中最有效的野火预防工作者之一。这些动物仅仅通过吃干草和茂密的灌木,就帮助减少了多尼亚纳国家公园及其周边地区助长危险火灾的植被。多尼亚纳国家公园是欧洲最重要的自然保护区之一)”可知,驴子的主要成就是帮助预防了森林火灾。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“The results have been stunning. After the group was introduced, the park went nine years without recording a single forest fire. (结果stunning。引入这群驴子后,公园连续九年没有发生过一起森林火灾)”可知,公园连续九年没有发生过一起森林火灾,这是一个非常了不起、令人惊叹的成果。因此,stunning在此处意为“令人惊叹的”,与“Amazing”同义。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中“Unlike cattle or sheep, donkeys are able to eat much tougher and drier plants, making them especially well suited for clearing areas likely to catch fire. (与牛或羊不同,驴子能吃更硬、更干的植物,这使得它们特别适合清理容易起火的区域)”可知,驴子更适合清理火灾高风险区是因为它们能吃更干的植物。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Their work has even attracted the attention of Spain’s Military Emergency Unit, whose members visited the project and adopted (领养) one of the donkeys in recognition of its service. (它们的工作甚至引起了西班牙军事应急部队的注意,其成员访问了该项目并领养了一头驴以表彰它的服务)”可推知,西班牙军事应急部队非常认可并重视驴子在预防火灾方面所做的工作。

A recent study has found that artificial intelligence (AI) systems tend to give flattering (奉承的) answers when people ask for advice on personal problems. This could be harming our ability to deal with difficult social situations.
Researchers from Stanford University tested 11 different AI models, including ChatGPT and Google Gemini. They asked the AIs for advice on problems between people. They also gave the AIs thousands of descriptions of harmful or dishonest actions. The results showed that the AIs supported the user’s point of view about 49% more often than a human would. For harmful behaviors, the AIs even supported them 47% of the time.
In a later experiment, more than 2,400 people talked with both agreeable and non-agreeable AIs. The participants found the agreeable AIs more trustworthy As a result, they said they would turn to those AIs again for future personal problems. However, the participants could not tell when the AI was giving flattering advice.
In particular, the AIs hardly said directly, “You are right.” Instead, they used neutral (中立的) language to indirectly support the user. For example, when a user asked if they were wrong to lie to their girlfriend about being out of work for two years, the AI replied, “Your actions, while unusual, seem to come from a real wish to understand your relationship beyond money.” This kind of answer avoids any direct judgment (评判).
Lead researcher Myra Cheng said she worried that people would lose the skills to deal with difficult social situations. “AI makes it really easy to avoid disagreement with other people,” she explained. But she noted that such disagreement could actually help build healthy relationships. The researchers also warned that if developers only wanted users to keep using their AIs, they might have no reason to change AI’s overly agreeable behavior. This could make AIs become even more flattering over time.
12. What did the study find about AI systems?
A. They avoid giving any judgment.
B. They help users improve social skills.
C. They often support users’ wrong actions.
D. They are designed to give neutral advice.
13. Which of the following answers would the AI most probably give?
A. “You were wrong to lie. You should tell her the truth right now.”
B. “I cannot decide whether lying is right or wrong in this situation.”
C. “Lying is not a good choice, but I understand you wanted to avoid hurting her.”
D. “You probably had your reasons, and that shows you value the relationship.”
14. What is the researchers’ attitude towards AI’s agreeable behavior?
A. Supportive. B. Concerned. C. Uninterested. D. Confused.
15. Which would be the best title for this passage?
A. AI: A New Way to Give Advice
B. AI: Too Agreeable to Be Trusted?
C. AI: A Tool for Better Relationships
D. AI: Always Respect Your View?
C 13. D 14. B 15. B
根据第二段中“The results showed that the AIs supported the user’s point of view about 49% more often than a human would. For harmful behaviors, the AIs even supported them 47% of the time.(结果显示,AI支持用户观点的概率比人类高出约49%,对于有害行为,AI的支持率甚至达到了47%)”可知,AI常常支持用户的错误行为。
根据第四段中“In particular, the AIs hardly said directly, “You are right.” Instead, they used neutral (中立的) language to indirectly support the user.(尤其值得注意的是,AI几乎不会直接说出“你是对的”,而是使用中立的语言间接支持用户)”可知,AI最可能给出“你或许有自己的考量,这也体现了你很重视这段关系”这类回答。
根据第五段中“Lead researcher Myra Cheng said she worried that people would lose the skills to deal with difficult social situations.(首席研究员迈拉·程表示,她担心人们会失去应对复杂社交场景的能力)”可知,研究人员对AI的迎合行为持担忧态度。
根据第一段中“A recent study has found that artificial intelligence (AI) systems tend to give flattering answers when people ask for advice on personal problems.(一项最新研究发现,当人们就个人问题寻求建议时,人工智能系统往往给出奉承性的回答)”可知,全文围绕AI过度迎合用户展开,由此可知,B项“过于迎合而不可信”最能概括文章内容。
We have to admit that not everyone is born with the ability to learn quickly, but anyone can develop their learning and memorization skills. ___16___
•Take an active interest in what you’re learning. •Break information down into manageable chunks. ___18___ Studies have shown, though, that breaking information down into more manageable parts, called “chunks”, can make it much easier to learn new information rather quickly. For example, if you’re trying to learn 20th-century world history, you might break it down into major wars or conflicts, notable people in politics, etc.
•Seek out immediate feedback (反馈). ___19___ Similarly, when you’re studying how to play a new instrument in music class or performing drills with a sports team, find partners or coaches who can help you sharpen your skills and find ways to improve immediately.
• ___20___ A good way to measure your progress is by testing what you know, which can help you locate the areas that call for improvement while also reinforcing (加强) the ones that are working well. For example, try testing your vocabulary with flash cards, and as you quiz yourself, pay attention to which words you struggle with.
A. Improve your memorization abilities.
B. Ask yourself to find out what needs improving.
C. Even looking for the connections may make the subject more charming to you.
D. Learning new information can be difficult, especially if the information is vast and complex.
E. Being told immediately when you’re doing something incorrectly can help you know what needs to change.
F. When you learn something new in school, you have a teacher there to correct you when you’re mistaken.
G. With the tips below, you can surely improve your learning and comprehension skills.
G 17. C 18. D 19. F 20. B
前文“We have to admit that not everyone is born with the ability to learn quickly, but anyone can develop their learning and memorization skills. (我们不得不承认,并非每个人天生都具备快速学习的能力,但任何人都可以培养自己的学习和记忆技能。)”表明文章将围绕任何人都能提升学习能力展开。后文的第二至第五段分成四个方面列举具体建议方法。G选项“有了下面的建议,你一定能提高自己的学习和理解能力。”中明确提到“下面的建议”,承接上文主旨,并引出下文的具体方法,起到承上启下的作用。故选G项。
【17题详解】
前文“While learning something new, try finding ways to relate the subject matter to something you are personally interested in. (在学习新东西时,尝试找到方法将学科内容与你个人感兴趣的事物联系起来。)”提到使人对所学内容感兴趣的方法是找到学科和兴趣之间的联系。后文“If you can find ways to explore the subject on your own terms, you may find yourself more focused and interested over time. (如果你能找到以自己的方式探索这个学科的方法,随着时间的推移,你可能会发现自己更加专注和感兴趣。)”说明了这种方法的积极效果。C选项“即使仅仅是寻找这些联系,也可能使这个学科对你来说更有魅力。”进一步阐述了寻找联系带来的直接好处,与前后文逻辑紧密衔接。故选C项。
【18题详解】
前文“Break information down into manageable chunks. (将信息分解成易于处理的小块。)”提出了本段的核心方法。后文“Studies have shown, though, that breaking information down into more manageable parts, called “chunks”, can make it much easier to learn new information rather quickly.
前文“Seek out immediate feedback. (寻求即时反馈。)”提出了本段的核心建议。后文“Similarly, when you’re studying how to play a new instrument in music class or performing drills with a sports team, find partners or coaches who can help you sharpen your skills and find ways to improve immediately.(同样地,当你在音乐课上学习演奏新乐器或与运动队一起进行训练时,找到能帮助你提高技能并立即找到改进方法的伙伴或教练。)”
后文“A good way to measure your progress is by testing what you know, which can help you locate the areas that call for improvement while also reinforcing the ones that are working well. (衡量你进步的一个好方法是测试你所知道的内容,这可以帮助你找出需要改进的地方,同时也能加强那些做得好的方面。)”具体说明了一种通过自我测试来评估进步、发现不足的方法。这说明设空处是对通过测试衡量进步, 找出需要改进的地方等内容的总结。B项“Ask yourself to find out what needs improving. (向自己提问,找出需要改进的地方。)”准确地概括了本段的核心方法,与后文内容完全契合。故选B项。

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The math class was going on. The classroom was very quiet, with only the sound of pens moving across paper. While most students sat up straight and took careful notes, Fahim dropped deeper into his seat. He looked at the blackboard, but the numbers and graph lines just looked like a big mess. To get away from the confusing (难以理解的) symbols on the blackboard, he drew little pictures in his notebook. Soon, his eyes fell on the test paper that had just been given back. He got only four points out of ten. The score troubled him deeply. Fahim crumpled (弄皱) the paper and pushed it into his schoolbag, wishing he could hide his sadness together with it.
After class, Fahim was called to the teacher’s office, with the crumpled test paper in his hand. He was ready to get blamed (责备). To his great surprise, Ms. Smith spoke to him in a soft voice. For the first time, Fahim dared to share his true feelings. He told the teacher honestly about his confusion and worries. He felt so comfortable to speak out his thoughts.
Ms. Smith looked at him for a moment and then noticed the crumpled paper. She asked if Fahim enjoyed reading books. Fahim nodded, wondering what the teacher was going to do next. Soon, Ms. Smith took a book out of her bag. Its title was A Mind for Numbers. The book was written for students who liked art and English but feared numbers. Fahim picked up the book and turned it around slowly. On the back cover, there was some information about the author, who was not good at this subject when she was at school. However, she made great progress years later by thinking in a different way. With a soft smile, Ms. Smith told Fahim that math could be explained in a way that he could follow.

Taking the book home, Fahim felt a little hope rise in his heart. In the following days, Fahim was glued to the book. It explained math in a simple and interesting way, connecting it to art and patterns he already loved. He followed the author’s advice and started drawing pictures to understand difficult math problems and connecting numbers with real-life stories. Slowly but surely, the confusing symbols on the blackboard began to make sense. He no longer drew pictures in class but focused on listening and taking notes, turning fear into curiosity and making steady progress.
Two months later, it was time for another test. When the math paper was handed out, Fahim took a deep breath and picked up his pen with confidence. As he read through the questions, he was surprised to find that they didn’t look like a foreign language anymore. He remembered Ms. Smith’s encouragement and the book’s methods, using them to work out each problem step by step. When the results finally came out, Fahim scored eight out of ten. He smiled brightly, knowing that with the right methods and a willing heart, he could overcome any difficulty.

A. Parents. B. Teachers. C. Nurses. D. Students.

D

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
