Historic Sites In Paris
Paris is a city full of sites of different times and architectural styles. Here are some of these famous spots that are essential to understand the city’s complicated past.
Eiffel Tower
Presented as part of the 1889 World Exposition in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has become the city’s most famous attraction. It is accessible on Line 6 or Line 8 of the Paris Metro by Bir-Hakeim or Trocadero stations. If possible, avoid visiting this spot at peak hours (10:00 am—5:00 pm) or on weekends, so you can make the most of your visit to enjoy the views from the top. The best moments are right after it first opens on weekdays.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
Dating back to the 12th century, the Notre-Dame Cathedral has long towered alongside the banks of the Seine River. With its complicated Gothi (哥特式的) architectural details, it represents Parisian religion and architecture. Unfortunately, a fire broke out on April 15, 2019, destroying part of it. Visitors are not allowed to enter now.
Louvre Museum
Louvre Museum is one of the most famous art museums in the world where you can witness the city’s rich painting history from the medieval(中世纪的) period to the present. It is easily accessible on Line 1 from the Palais Royl-Musée du Louvre station. It is closed on Tuesdays as well as January 1, May 1, and December 25 each year.
Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe serves as a national symbol of France, which was built by Napoleon I in celebration of the victory at the Battle of Austerlitz. Take Line 1, 2, or 6 to Charles de Gaulle-Etoile station and you will see the Arc de Triomphe. Visitors can purchase tickets for a tour to the top to enjoy the views of the city.

Our school owned a boat named Jolie Brise. It was one of the most famous tall ships in the world and three times winner of the Fastnet Race. The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn’t match its fame.
Mr Parish had originally intended to join the Royal Navy but ended up as a teacher at our school. Some pupils guessed that he still felt the call of the ocean —perhaps because his lessons were almost entirely devoted to navigation(航海). They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea. Then Mr. Parish, seeing a group of young people prepared to man the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club.
By the time I arrived, the sailing club had grown. At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip was announced. Its destination was Saint-Malo. But it also meant that we had to refit the ship by removing every piece of ballast(压舱物)and replacing the bilge water(底舱污水) before we were allowed to sail.
And I did learn the ropes on that school trip. I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the meaning of teamwork and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have caught and cooked yourself from a boat that you have rebuilt and sailed yourself.
24. What was unusual about the boat Jolie Brise?
A. It was in a perfect condition. B. Its lawful owner was Mr. Parish.
C. It won glory for the Royal Navy. D. Its location wasn’t as famous as it was.
25. Why was the sailing club set up?
A. The crew were selected. B. The boat needed workers.
C. Mr. Parish tried to explore the sea. D. Students asked to practice navigation.
26. What finally made the school sailing trip possible?
A. The club’s permission. B. Mr. Parish’s sailing experience.
C. The students’ preparing the ship for it. D. The school’s offering financial support.
27. What does the underlined phrase “learn the ropes” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Learn to cook. B. Master useful skills.
C. Ensure sailing safety. D. Use ropes properly.

Most people already know that nature feels good. But now, science has put numbers behind that feeling. A new study shows that exercise in green surroundings — like parks, forests, or beaches —actually makes your body and brain feel better than working out indoors or in city streets.
In this study, researchers asked 25 young men to walk quickly in three different places: a green natural area, a busy street through the city, and indoors at a fitness center. The walking pace (速度) stayed the same across all three settings. But everything else was different. After each walk, scientists checked their stress hormone (激素) levels, mood, heart rate, and how hard the walk felt. The differences were clear.
“The participants(参与者) felt significantly more relaxed and had lower levels of the stress hormone after walking in nature. At the same time, they reported greater joy and less tiredness,” said study co-author Professor De Dominicis from the University of Copenhagen.
There’s a reason why nature works so well. Humans were born in nature and we have undergone most of our evolution in it. Therefore, it is not surprising that we feel good when we are in it. Our brains still recognize nature as a place of safety and peace. The noise and pace of city life can stress us out without us even noticing. Walls and man-made light just can’t compete with sunlight, trees, and fresh air.
This doesn’t mean indoor workouts are bad. Gyms and sports teams offer social connection and structure. But mixing in some outdoor time could bring extra benefits.
“The mental and physical benefits seem to be significantly greater when exercising in nature, so people can benefit greatly from replacing just one of their weekly indoor workouts with 30 minutes of exercise in green surroundings,” said Professor De Dominicis. “We see great potential in using nature as a driving force for physical activity —especially for those who find it difficult to get started.”
28. What might be the purpose of the new study?
A. To persuade the public to exercise more. B. To prove the benefits of exercise in nature.
C. To test the safety of green surroundings. D. To distinguish different types of exercises.
29. Which factor of the participants was controlled in the study?
A. Walking speed. B. Mood state. C. Hormone levels. D. Heart rate.
30. Why does exercising in nature make people feel better?
A. Humans are deeply rooted in nature. B. People can exercise at their own pace.
C. The sound in nature makes humans relaxed. D. It provides more social connection than gyms.
31. What might Professor De Dominicis support?
A. Following a specific schedule strictly.
B. Exercising in nature for half an hour a week.
C. Joining team sports instead of running alone.
D. Replacing all indoor exercise with nature workout.

There have been huge advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs that create art. The programs, creating artworks based on short descriptions, have amazed many people. But they have also raised tough questions.
NewsForKids net reported on Dall-E2, a tool from OpenAI. Dall-E2 uses AI to create incredible paintings, photos, and other artworks in different styles based on simple descriptions. Since then, OpenAI has changed its rules to allow anyone to sign up and use the tool. But it’s still putting strong controls on the art that can be created. Now several other AI tools work in similar ways. These new tools are free or cheap, and don’t have some of Dall-E2’s limits.
The new tools are entertaining and powerful. They allow people to quickly see almost any idea they can imagine, even if they aren’t artists. For creative workers, the tools allow them to quickly explore new ideas.
These new AI art tools are all trained in similar ways — using massive collections of pictures with matching descriptions. The programs begin to create new images with a random pattern of dots. Step by step, they use their training to change the pattern until parts of the image begin to match the description. However, artists are upset that they’re now competing against computers for attention, prizes and jobs. It’s hard for a single artist to compete against all the art and photography appearing on the Internet. The images and descriptions used to train these AI programs were taken from the Internet, therefore, the tools can produce images that aren’t appropriate (合适的). Yet, what concerned the artists most was that the training images were used without permission, causing questions whether what these tools are doing is fair or legal. Once created, an artwork is protected by copyright. The creators of the training pictures — the photographers, the artists, and even the people in the pictures — haven’t given permission for their images to be used.
32. How do AI art programs like Dall-E2 create artworks?
A. By using short descriptions as a basis. B. By changing photos taken by users.
C. By asking professional artists for help. D. By copying existing famous paintings.
33. What aspect of AI art tools does paragraph 4 focus on?
A. Their strong functions. B. Their wide application.
C. Their working principle. D. Their common features.
34. Which factor related to the AI art tools troubles artists most?
A. The huge collecting capacity of the Internet.
B. The great creative ability beyond imagination.
C. The inappropriate artwork created by the tools.
D. The illegal use of training images from the Internet.
35. What makes the best title for the text?
A. AI Art Tools: Newborn Innovations. B. AI Art Tools: Powerful Competitors.
C. AI Art Tools Amaze or Upset Artists? D. AI Art Tools Improve Art Significantly?

Six-year-old Leo was born with a problem in his right leg. He needed a stick to walk. When he said he wanted to learn swimming, his whole family was surprised. “In the water, there’s no ground to stop me. I can run like everyone else,” Leo said, holding his hands closely with strong hope in his eyes.
When Leo walked into the swimming pool for the first time, the cold water reached his stomach. Suddenly, his right leg lost control, and he started to sink. Coach Lisa quickly caught him and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. The water will hold you up. But the training was much harder than Leo had thought. Kicking, which others learned easily, made Leo struggle a lot. His right leg just couldn’t move in the proper way. He could only swim two meters before choking(窒息)on water.
After about one month, Leo watched other kids swimming freely. He sat by the pool and wiped his tears: “I can never do this. I want to give up.” His mom sat by his side and said, “Look, Leo. At first, you couldn’t even stand in the water. But now you can swim five meters—that’s progress!” Coach Lisa also came over with a float (板): “Let’s try a new way. We’ll practice using your left arm to swim first, and use a float for your right leg.
The days of trying again were still full of challenges. One night, Leo’s right leg hurt so badly that he couldn’t fall asleep at all. The next morning, Leo refused to go to the pool, but his mother still drove him there. When Coach Lisa came to check on him, she brought along some good news. “The city’s disabled swimming competition is coming soon,” Coach Lisa said. “You’re getting faster and stronger, Leo. And I’ve signed you up for this competition.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged.
The competition day soon came, and Leo appeared at the starting point confidently.

第一节
Dear Peter,
How is everything going? I’m eager to share with you my incredible trip.
During the National Day holiday, I visited Shanghai Disneyland, the first Disney resort on the Chinese mainland, combining Disney fairy tales with unique Chinese cultural elements. Travelling through space and meeting adorable cartoon characters brought me great fun. While wandering around, I spotted Mulan in the parade, a Chinese legend famous for taking her father’s place in the army. What impressed me most was the roller coaster, bringing me great excitement.
This experience was beyond all my expectations. I sincerely invite you to visit it together when you come to China. I’m sure we will have an amazing time.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged. He made up his mind to spare no effort to prepare for the competition. Every day after that, he trained harder than before. He practiced arm strokes hundreds of times until his shoulders ached, and kept trying kicking even when his leg felt weak. His mom cheered for him by the pool, and Coach Lisa always corrected his postures patiently. Leo never complained again—he knew the competition was his chance to prove he could do it. He even started to imagine himself swimming bravely in the pool, with everyone cheering for him.
The competition day soon came, and Leo appeared at the starting point confidently. He knew he was well prepared. When the gun rang, he jumped into the water and swam as hard as he could. Pain came over his right leg halfway, but he refused to give up. The cheers from his family and Coach Lisa kept him going. Finally, he touched the finish line! Though he took third place, Leo raised his head proudly with tears of joy. Holding the medal, he realized he had not only shown everyone he could swim, but also found true freedom in the water— freedom from limits, freedom to chase his dreams.

W: Is Emily enjoying her new independent life?

W: Welcome back to our program, Youth Voices. Today, we’re looking at the lives of international students. There is a special class in Denver, Colorado. This class had 22 high school students, all from different cultural backgrounds. They were all learning to speak English.
Like all teenagers, they had common problems, but they also faced extra challenges. They were in a new country, trying to understand a new culture and language. In total, the students spoke 14 different languages. Often, a student was the only one who spoke their language in the room. At first, most found it difficult to make friends because they couldn’t communicate well. This led to loneliness.
What did these students really want? They were hungry to learn how to speak English fluently. They wanted to feel accepted at their new school and to become part of a community. Fortunately, as time passed, the students managed to deal with these difficulties successfully. Their story is one of great courage and hope.

根据第一段的“The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn’t match its fame.”(这条船不寻常:尤其是对于威尔郡的一所偏远的语法学校来说,它在英国离海最远的地方。
根据第二段的“They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea. Then Mr. Parish, seeing a group of young people prepared to man the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club.”(他们争辩说,只学习航海知识却未能真正出海,这是非常不公平的。
根据第三段的“At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip was announced.”(周末时,我们整天都为她忙碌,给她打扫卫生、上油漆,晚上我们就睡在地板上的睡袋里。
根据第四段的“I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the meaning of teamwork and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have caught and cooked yourself from a boat that you have rebuilt and sailed yourself.”(我学会了如何在大浪中驾驶船。

根据第二段中的“In this study, researchers asked 25 young men to walk quickly in three different places: a green natural area, a busy street through the city, and indoors at a fitness center. The walking pace (速度) stayed the same across all three settings.(在这项研究中,研究人员让25名年轻男性在三个不同的地方快速行走:绿色自然区域、城市繁忙街道和室内健身中心。在这三种环境中,行走速度保持一致。)”可知,研究中控制的变量是参与者的行走速度。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“Humans were born in nature and we have undergone most of our evolution in it. Therefore, it is not surprising that we feel good when we are in it. Our brains still recognize nature as a place of safety and peace.(人类诞生于自然,并且在自然中经历了大部分进化过程。因此,当我们身处自然中时感到舒适也就不足为奇了。我们的大脑仍然将自然视为安全与宁静之地。)”可知,人类与自然有着深厚的根源联系,这是在自然中锻炼让人感觉更好的原因。故选A项。
根据最后一段中的“The mental and physical benefits seem to be significantly greater when exercising in nature, so people can benefit greatly from replacing just one of their weekly indoor workouts with 30 minutes of exercise in green surroundings,” said Professor De Dominicis.

根据文章第一段“The programs, creating artworks based on short descriptions, have amazed many people.(这些程序根据简短的描述创作艺术品,这让许多人感到惊讶。)”以及第二段“Dall-E2 uses AI to create incredible paintings, photos, and other artworks in different styles based on simple descriptions.(Dall-E2利用AI根据简单的描述创作出不同风格的、令人难以置信的绘画、照片和其他艺术品。)”
根据文章第四段“These new AI art tools are all trained in similar ways — using massive collections of pictures with matching descriptions. The programs begin to create new images with a random pattern of dots. Step by step, they use their training to change the pattern until parts of the image begin to match the description.(这些新型的AI艺术工具,训练方式大同小异——均依托海量的图片及与之匹配的文字描述进行训练。程序会以随机的点阵图案起步,开始生成全新图像。随后,它们会借助训练所学,逐步调整这一图案,直至图像的部分内容与文字描述相契合。)”可知本段清晰地阐述了这些工具是如何工作的,可推理出本段聚焦于AI工具的工作原理。
34. 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Yet, what concerned the artists most was that the training images were used without permission, causing questions whether what these tools are doing is fair or legal.(然而,最让艺术家们担忧的是,训练图像是在未经许可的情况下被使用的,这引发了人们对这些工具的行为是否公平或合法的质疑。)”
根据文章第三段“The new tools are entertaining and powerful.(这些新工具既有趣又强大。)”以及最后一段“However, artists are upset that they’re now competing against computers for attention, prizes and jobs.(然而,艺术家们很不快,因为他们现在要与电脑争夺关注度、奖项和工作。)”

Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged.
The competition day soon came, and Leo appeared at the starting point confidently.
1. 回扣原文细节:要提到right leg、float浮板、left arm,阅卷老师看到呼应原文的细节会加分;
2. 情感变化:从自卑想放弃—受到鼓舞坚持—赛场自信、勇敢;
Great determination filled his heart.
Hard as the training was, he never thought of quitting.
It was not the prize but the courage that mattered.
