B I’m an 18-year-old pre-medical student tall and good-looking, with two short story books and quite a number of essays to my credit. Why am I singing such praises of myself? Just to explain that the attainment of self-pride comes from a great deal of self-love, and to attain it, one must first learn to accept oneself as one is. That was where my struggle began. Born and raised in Africa, I had always taken my African origin as a burden. My self-dislike was further fueled when my family had to relocate to Norway, where I attended a high school. Compared to all the white girls around me, with their golden hair and delicate lips, I, a black girl, had curly hair and full, red lips. My nose often had a thin sheet of sweat on it, whatever the weather was. I just wanted to bury myself in my shell crying “I’m so different!” What also contributed to my self-dislike was my occasional stuttering (口吃), which had weakened my self-confidence. It always stood between me and any fine opportunity. I’d taken it as an excuse to avoid any public speaking sessions, and unknowingly let it rule over me. Fortunately, as I grew older, there came a turning point. One day a white girl caught my eye on the school bus when she suddenly turned back. To my astonishment, she had a thin sheet of sweat on her nose too, and it was in November! “Wow,” I whispered to myself, “this isn’t a genetic (遗传的) disorder after all. It’s perfectly normal.” Days later, my life took another twist (转折). Searching the internet for stuttering cures, I accidentally learned that such famous people as Isaac Newton and Winston Churchill also stuttered. I was greatly relieved and then an idea suddenly hit me — if I’m smart, I shouldn’t allow my stuttering to stand between me and my success. Another boost to my self-confidence came days later as I was watching the news about Oprah Winfrey, the famous talk show host and writer — she’s black too! Whenever I think of her story and my former dislike of my color, I’m practically filled with shame. Today, I’ve grown to accept what I am with pride; it simply gives me a feeling of uniqueness. The idea of self-love has taken on a whole new meaning for me: there’s always something fantastic about us, and what we need to do is learn to appreciate it. 24. What affected the author’s adjustment to her school life in Norway? A. Her appearance. B. Social discrimination. C. Her changing emotions. D. The climate in Norway. 25. How did the author feel on noticing the similarity between her and the girl on the bus? A. Blessed and proud. B. Confused and afraid. C. Amazed and relieved. D. Shocked and ashamed. 26. What lesson did the author learn from the cases of Newton and Churchill? A. Great minds speak alike. B. Stuttering is no barrier to success. C. Wisdom counts more than hard work. D. Famous people can’t live with their weaknesses. 27 What can best summarize the message contained in the passage? A. Pride comes before a fall. B. Where there is a will, there is a way. C. Self-acceptance is based on the love for oneself. D. Self-love is key to the attainment of self-pride. C As data and identity theft becomes more and more common, the market is growing for biometric(生物测量) technologies—like fingerprint scans—to keep others out of private e-spaces. At present, these technologies are still expensive, though. Researchers from Georgia Tech say that they have come up with a low-cost device(装置) that gets around this problem: a smart keyboard. This smart keyboard precisely measures the cadence(节奏) with which one types and the pressure fingers apply to each key. The keyboard could offer a strong layer of security by analyzing things like the force of a user’s typing and the time between key presses. These patterns are unique to each person. Thus, the keyboard can determine people’s identities, and by extension, whether they should be given access to the computer it’s connected to—regardless of whether someone gets the password right. It also doesn’t require a new type of technology that people aren’t already familiar with. Everybody uses a keyboard and everybody types differently. In a study describing the technology, the researchers had 100 volunteers type the word “touch” four times using the smart keyboard. Data collected from the device could be used to recognize different participants based on how they typed, with very low error rates. The researchers say that the keyboard should be pretty straightforward to commercialize and is mostly made of inexpensive, plastic-like parts. The team hopes to make it to market in the near future. 28. Why do the researchers develop the smart keyboard? A. To reduce pressure on keys. B. To improve accuracy in typing. C. To replace the password system. D. To cut the cost of e-space protection. 29. What makes the invention of the smart keyboard possible? A. Computers are much easier to operate. B. Fingerprint scanning techniques develop fast. C. Typing patterns vary from person to person. D. Data security measures are guaranteed. 30. What do the researchers expect of the smart keyboard? A. It’ll be environment-friendly. B. It’ll reach consumers soon. C. It’ll be made of plastics. D. It’ll help speed up typing. 31. Where is this text most likely from? A. A diary. B. A guidebook C. A novel. D. A magazine. D XI’AN — China has introduced various emergency responses and longterm measures against air pollution in the central and eastern regions. The air quality index (AQI) for Xi'an reached 500 on Wednesday afternoon, at the top of the AQI scale, according to the national air quality monitoring website. Xi’an weather forecasters predict the smog (雾霾) will continue for the next week and air pollution may worsen. “I have to keep buying masks for my family, ”said Liu, buying masks at a pharmacy (药店) near her home in downtown Xi’an.“This is the only thing we can do to protect ourselves.” On Wednesday, a city government emergency response plan was put into action, suspending all the construction and taking at least 50 per cent of government vehicles off the road. Power plants must limit their output and reduce emissions. Nearly half the country, more than 100 cities in 20 provinces, has suffered from smog since last December. Many have taken action, including experimenting with artificial methods to reduce smog, limiting vehicle use and fining polluters. Assessments based on GDP alone were abandoned last month and more emphasis has been put on public wellbeing and the environment. Whether the move will be effective in forcing local governments to consider environmental issues over economic growth remains to be seen. Environmental protection professionals are doubtful about the immediacy of the effects of these measures. Xiao Hang, an urban researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said it took London 50 years to lose the moniker (绰号) “foggy London town”, and Los Angeles still struggles to control its photochemical (光化学) smog. “We can’t ignore environmental problems during the development process and China has a long way to go,” he said. 32. What would be the best title for the article? A. AQI for Xi’an reached 500 B. Smog crisis tries the limits of people's patience C. Smoggy Chinese cities to clear the air D. Dust masks become hot sellers 33. The underlined word “suspending”in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by “________”. A. encouraging B. stopping C. continuing D. expanding 34. We can infer from the article that ________. A. China is the only country suffering from smog B. Environmental professionals believe the air quality will soon be improved with these measures C. Assessments based on GDP alone were harmful to environmental protection D. Xi’an was the most polluted city in China 35. What Xiao Hang said indicates ________. A. London still has serious air pollution after 50 years of effort B. the development of China is more important C. solving environmental problems requires great effort D. it’s normal for China to have environmental problems School success means different things to different people. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school, when he accidentally threw the ball at a vase sitting on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor, and a large piece broke off. What made Ben more upset was that the vase was not a common decoration but an antique (古董), which was handed down through generations from the 18th century. It was also his mother’s favourite possession. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together hastily and put the vase back in its place. As the mother herself dusted the vase every day, she naturally noticed the cracks (裂纹) that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he had broken the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbor’s cat jumped in from the window and he couldn’t drive it away, no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally knocked the vase off its shelf. His mother was quite clear that her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son’s nervous eyes and the suspicious looks of the other family members, Ben’s mother remained calm. She realized she shouldn’t just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea. Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished, but, as he had already lied, he decided to deny everything, no matter how angry his mum became. In the study, calmly bathed in the light, his mother’s face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push open the door and cautiously enter, she took a chocolate box out of a drawer and gave him one. The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024—2025年秋高二9月考英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 What does Michelle want to do? He also volunteers his time in the largest hospital in our city, where my mother works as a nurse. My brother is very nice not only to his family members but also to others. He goes to visit our grandma to make sure she’s OK. He also makes care packages for families that are dealing with COVID-19. I haven’t seen my brother much since the COVID-19 pandemic started. It’s hard to be away from him, but I know other people need him. He is going to study in a police training school later this year because he wants to help more people. 27. What can best summarize the message contained in the passage? A. Pride comes before a fall. B. Where there is a will, there is a way. C. Self-acceptance is based on the love for oneself. D. Self-love is key to the attainment of self-pride. A 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第二段中的“Compared to all the white girls around me, with their golden hair and delicate lips, I, a black girl, had curly hair and full, red lips. My nose often had a thin sheet of sweat on it, whatever the weather was. I just wanted to bury myself in my shell crying “I’m so different!”(我周围的白人女孩都有着金色的头发和精致的嘴唇,而我,一个黑人女孩,有着卷曲的头发和饱满的红唇。不管天气如何,我的鼻子上经常有一层薄薄的汗水。我只想把自己埋在自己的壳里,哭着说:“我太不一样了!”)”可知, 作者的外表与其他的孩子不同, 这让作者很自卑、伤心,由此可知,作者的外表影响了作者适应新学校的生活。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“To my astonishment, she had a thin sheet of sweat on her nose too, and it was in November! (令我惊讶的是, 她的鼻子上也有薄薄的汗水, 而且是在十一月!)”可知, 作者见到这个白人女孩和自己一样会鼻子出汗,她感到很惊讶, 结合下文的““Wow,” I whispered to myself, “this isn’t a genetic (遗传的) disorder after all. It’s perfectly normal.”(“哇,”我低声对自己说,“这毕竟不是一种遗传性疾病。这很正常。”)”可知, 作者此刻明白了鼻子出汗是正常现象,所以此刻感到很放松。故选C项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Searching the internet for stuttering cures, I accidentally learned that such famous people as Isaac Newton and Winston Churchill also stuttered. I was greatly relieved and then an idea suddenly hit me — if I’m smart, I shouldn’t allow my stuttering to stand between me and my success. (在网上搜索治疗口吃的方法时,我偶然发现艾萨克·牛顿和温斯顿·丘吉尔等名人也有口吃。我如释重负,然后一个我有了一个想法——如果我很聪明,我就不应该让我的口吃阻碍我的成功。)”可知,作者在网上发现艾萨克·牛顿和温斯顿·丘吉尔等名人也有口吃,由此可知,作者意识到口吃不应该是自己成功的障碍。故选B项。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。根据首段中的“Just to explain that he attainment of self-pride comes from a great deal of self-love, and to attain it, one must first learn to accept oneself as one is. That was where my struggle began.(只是为了解释他获得自尊来自大量的自爱,而要获得它,一个人必须首先学会接受自己的本来面目。这就是我挣扎开始的地方。)”以及下文中介绍的作者的个人经历可知,本文要讲述的是作者在经历中感悟到要想有自尊,首先要自爱。故选D项。 C As data and identity theft becomes more and more common, the market is growing for biometric(生物测量) technologies—like fingerprint scans—to keep others out of private e-spaces. A novel. D. A magazine. 28. D 29. C 30. B 31. A. London still has serious air pollution after 50 years of effort B. the development of China is more important C. solving environmental problems requires great effort D. it’s normal for China to have environmental problems 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. C 35. 通读全文,根据第一段“XI’AN — China has introduced various emergency responses and longterm measures against air pollution in the central and eastern regions.(西安——中国针对中东部地区的空气污染采取了各种应急措施和长期措施。)” 根据第四段“On Wednesday, a city government emergency response plan was put into action, suspending all the construction and taking at least 50 per cent of government vehicles off the road.(周三,市政府的一项应急响应计划付诸实施,suspending所有建筑施工,并让至少 50% 的政府车辆停驶。)” 根据倒数第二段“Assessments based on GDP alone were abandoned last month and more emphasis has been put on public wellbeing and the environment.(上个月,仅基于国内生产总值的评估被摒弃,更多的重点被放在了公众福祉和环境上。)” 根据最后一段“Xiao Hang, an urban researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said it took London 50 years to lose the moniker (绰号) “foggy London town”, and Los Angeles still struggles to control its photochemical (光化学) smog. “We can’t ignore environmental problems during the development process and China has a long way to go,” he said.(中国科学院城市研究员肖航表示,伦敦花了50年时间才失去了“雾蒙蒙的伦敦城”的绰号,洛杉矶仍在努力控制其光化学烟雾。他说:“在发展过程中,我们不能忽视环境问题,中国还有很长的路要走。”)”可知,肖航通过举例伦敦和洛杉矶治理污染的情况,表明解决环境问题需要付出巨大努力,中国在治理污染方面也面临挑战,还有很长的路要走。故选C项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 School success means different things to different people. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!” Ben’s face turned red as he stared at the chocolate in his hand. His mother gently touched his head and continued, “You glued the vase carefully, which shows you truly cared about making things right.” She paused, her eyes warm and understanding. “But imagination should help us solve problems, not hide from them.” Ben bit his lip, realizing his mother had known the truth all along. Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared. He took a deep breath and whispered, “Mom, I’m sorry. I broke the vase while playing basketball and lied to you.” His mother smiled softly, “I’m proud of you for telling the truth. Mistakes happen, but honesty is more precious than any antique.” She handed him another chocolate, “Let’s fix it together tomorrow, okay?” Ben nodded, holding the chocolate tightly, grateful for his mother’s wisdom and love. 2.续写线索: 母亲用巧克力回应谎言——指出问题所在——Ben态度转变并主动承认错误——母亲接纳并提议共同解决——Ben感受到了母亲的关爱与智慧 词汇激活 行为类 ①盯着:stare at/gaze at ②意识到:realize/be aware of ③发生:happen/occur ④修理:fix/repair 情感类 ①温柔的:gentle/tender ②温暖的:warm/affectionate ③感激的:grateful/thankful 【点睛】[高分句型1] His mother gently touched his head and continued, “You glued the vase carefully, which shows you truly cared about making things right.”(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句,修饰You glued the vase carefully整个句子) [高分句型2] Ben bit his lip, realizing his mother had known the truth all along.(运用了现在分词短语作伴随状语,且其中包含省略了引导词that的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$第一节听下面5段对话。 Are you doing your homework, Michelle?
