Singapore Botanic Gardens.  B It was in September, 2016. I was invited to sing at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm to honor the laureate for literature, Bob Dylan. Having committed myself and weighed everything, I chose to sing “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” one of his famous works and a song I had loved since I was a teenager. From then on, every spare moment was spent practicing it, making certain that I knew and could convey every line. I bought a new suit, trimmed my hair, and felt ready. Then it was time. After a speech dedicated to Bob Dylan was read, I heard my name and rose. The opening chords (和弦) began, and I heard myself singing. The first verse was a bit shaky, but I was sure I would settle. However, I was struck with a flood of emotions, rising with such intensity that I was unable to cope with them. I had not forgotten the words that were now a part of me. I was simply unable to draw them out. I had to stop, ask pardon, and try again. I sang with all my being, yet still stumbling. It was not lost on me that the narrative of the song begins with the words “I stumbled (蹒跚而行) alongside the twelve misty mountains” and ends with the line “And I’ll know my song well before I start singing.” As I took my seat, I felt the hurt of failure, but also the strange realization that I had truly lived the world of the lyrics. The next morning, I was greeted by many of the Nobel scientists, who showed appreciation for my very public struggle and told me my performance was a metaphor for their own struggles. In the end, I understood: we committed our work above all for the entertainment and positive change of the people, and failure was only a way to stumble, to learn, and to truly know our song, not a weakness to overcome. 4. Why did the author choose the song “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”? A. Bob Dylan suggested it.   B. It was easy to practice.  C. She loved it in her teens.   D. She was required to sing it.  5. Why did the author have to pause and restart her song? A. She forgot the lyrics of the song.  B. She was drawn to something else.  C. The opening chords went wrong.  D. Strong emotions overwhelmed her.  6. What can we infer from the Nobel scientists’ reaction? A. They considered the performance a failure.  B. They saw their own struggles in the author’s.  C. They praised the author for hiding her feelings.  D. They enjoyed sharing their struggles publicly.  7. What message does the author try to convey? A. Practice makes perfect.  B. A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit.  C. Prevention is better than cure.  D. Where there is a will, there is a way.  C Plastic pollution is a pressing global problem. Each year, an estimated 11 million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean. Traditional recycling can only handle certain plastics, and much waste ends up in landfills or is burned, polluting the air. The search for a genuine solution has led scientists to an unexpected assistant: bacteria. In 2016, Japanese researchers discovered a bacterium that degrades PET — the plastic used in bottles — using enzymes (酶). Unlike mechanical recycling, which only reshapes plastic, this biological process actually fragments plastic, turning it back into original chemical parts. These parts can be used to make new plastic, creating a “circular economy”. In September 2026, researchers in Australian National University drew on earlier findings and uncovered changing a single atom (原子) in the enzyme made it break down PET almost twice as efficiently. At Leipzig University, an improved enzyme called PHL7 broke down 90% of PET in 16 hours, while an older one took the same time for only 45%. Scientists also added a second enzyme to solve a mid-stage problem. The technology has moved to larger test tanks, and costs can be lower than making new PET. Despite the advances, obstacles remain. The enzymes currently work most efficiently at around 70°C, requiring substantial energy input. Moreover, the bacterium is slow to reproduce and cannot yet handle the vast quantities of mixed plastic waste generated globally each year. Pollution from other types of plastic can also prevent the degradation process. Most critically, if plastic can be easily broken down, will consumers and manufacturers feel less forced to reduce plastic use in the first place? The agreement among experts is that it should complement efforts to cut plastic use and improve recycling infrastructure. “It’s an effective tool in our toolkit, but it’s not a silver bullet,” says Dr. Sarah Chen, a microbiologist at a leading environmental research institute. The bacterium may have opened a door, but how far we walk through it depends on the choices we make beyond the laboratory. 8. What does the underlined word “fragments” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Sets off.   B. Mixes up.   C. Breaks down.   D. Speeds up.  9. What can we learn about the technology from paragraph 3? A. It is more effective through advances.  B. It has been put into wide practical use.  C. It is cheaper than traditional recycling.  D. It has overturned the initial mechanism.  10. Why does the author ask the question in paragraph 4? A. To make an appeal for plastic reduction.  B. To suggest an upside of traditional recycling.  C. To present a possible side effect of the technology.  D. To indicate a potential reason for plastic pollution.  11. What can be a suitable title for this text? A. Enzymes: a fix-all solution to plastic pollution.  B. Enzymes: a natural enemy of plastic production.  C. Bacteria: a substitute for mechanical recycling.  D. Bacteria: an assistant in fighting against plastic.  D As AI chatbots have become widespread, you may have wondered whether a piece of text was written by a human or a machine. European Union’s AI Act took effect on 2 August, which hopes that adding watermarks will help limit the spread of misinformation and bring transparency to the use of AI. In response to this regulation, many AI firms are now adding watermarks to text, images and video created by their models. However, experts argue that, when it comes to text, watermarking is unlikely to work. OpenAI already watermarks images and audio, and Anthropic has announced that future models will watermark text. Although models already deployed are given a grace period, all must provide watermarking by 2 December this year. James Padolsey of NOPE, an AI safety firm, notes that while image and video watermarks are more reliable because they are composed of dense and multi-layered data, watermarks in text will always be more difficult to add. One approach to watermarking text is to apply a mathematically detectable pattern to the choice of words. But Padolsey points out that these patterns can be erased by even light editing. To drive home his point, he has built a tool called declaude that slightly alters AI text so that detectors stop working. Others worry about false positives — text wrongly marked as AI-made. Peter Scarfe of the University of Reading says many detection products admit in small print that they cannot conclusively prove plagiarism (抄袭). A tool might report a “67.8 percent chance” a text was AI-generated, leaving an educator unsure how to act. Watermark detection could likewise mark work merely processed by AI, such as text checked for grammar mistakes. Scarfe believes a blanket policy is a blunt instrument, since AI does not inherently spread misinformation. Erman Ayday, however, argues that even if removing a watermark is easy, the effort may still discourage mass misuse. 12. Why are many AI firms adding watermarks to their products? A. To help users create more accurate sentences.  B. To prevent language models from being copied.  C. To meet a legal requirement of the European Union.  D. To make AI-generated content look more professional.  13. What makes text watermarks less reliable? A. They are easy to be removed.   B. They are not legally approved.  C. They are too costly to produce.   D. They are composed of complex data.  14. Why does Scarfe mention the “67.8 percent chance”? A. To criticize students who cheat.  B. To prove AI text is usually accurate.  C. To praise the progress of technology.  D. To show their results are not certain enough.  15. What is Erman Ayday’s attitude towards text watermarking? A. Supportive.   B. Doubtful.   C. Neutral.   D. Indifferent. In an age when notifications buzz constantly and social media feeds refresh endlessly, our attention has become a precious resource. ____16____ The constant demands on our focus are not just annoying, but they are reshaping how we think, work and even rest. Understanding how to protect our attention may be one of the most important skills of the digital era. The first step is to recognize that attention works like a muscle. It can be strengthened through training, but it also gets tired after prolonged use. ____17____ Just as athletes need rest between training sessions, our brains need periods of undivided focus followed by genuine recovery. Research suggests that even short breaks without screens can restore our ability to concentrate. Another key strategy is to design your environment to support focus rather than fight against it. ____18____ Put your phone in another room while working. Turn off non-essential notifications. Create a dedicated workspace that your brain associates with concentration. These small changes reduce the mental effort required to stay on task, making deep work feel less exhausting. ____19____ Many people believe that multitasking makes them more productive, but studies consistently show the opposite. Switching between tasks drains cognitive resources and increases error rates. Instead, try time-blocking: assign specific periods to specific activities and protect those blocks fiercely. You will likely accomplish more in less time. Perhaps the most important shift is learning to be comfortable with boredom. ____20____ When we reach for our phones at every idle moment, we rob our brains of the chance to wander, reflect and consolidate memories. Allowing yourself to simply be — without input, without stimulation — is not laziness. It is a necessary condition for creativity and deep thinking. Attention is not just about getting things done. It is about being present in your own life. The digital world will always compete for your focus. The question is whether you will choose to protect it. A. In fact, it can be a gateway to original ideas.  B. This means it needs time to recover after intense use.  C. Nevertheless, the goal is not to avoid all digital tools.  D. Our ability to focus can improve with regular practice.  E. The solution is to remove distractions before they arise.  F. This constant competition for our attention comes at a real cost.  G. We often underestimate how much energy task-switching consumes. It was Christmas Eve 1949. Accustomed to cool shaded trails near his home in Idaho, he was totally defeated by the burning 100-degree heat of Arizona. Five hours into the hike, he got lost and completely ran out of water. Dizzy and light-headed, he tried to text his pregnant wife for help, only to find his phone had no cell service at all. Desperate and fearing death, he fired several shots from his handgun as a distress signal. The shots reached Zeto, a 57-year-old retired firefighter hiking nearby. Decades of rescue experience told him it was a cry for help instead of target practice. Always prepared for emergencies, Zeto carried extra water and supplies. He hiked steadily toward the sound of gunshots. Forty-five minutes later, he spotted Colt lying off the trail, confused and delirious from severe heat exhaustion. Zeto handed over water and energy gel. Though still weak, Colt managed to stagger to his feet. They began their painful journey back. It was about a three-mile journey and there was no cell service to call rescuers. Colt stood six-foot-five and weighed 210 pounds, far bigger than Zeto. The baking sun beat down nonstop, draining their energy little by little. Every step cost them huge strength, and Zeto knew a single fall might trap both of them on the mountain. They had to stop frequently to catch their breath. But halfway, Colt sat, closed his eyes and refused to move. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, they reached Zeto’s car and headed for the hospital. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 机密★启用并使用完毕前 山东省实验中学2027届高三第二次诊断性考试 英语试题  2026.11 (本试卷共12页,共四部分;全卷满分150分,考试用时120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. C 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第一段“Having committed myself and weighed everything, I chose to sing “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” one of his famous works and a song I had loved since I was a teenager.(在做好准备、权衡一切之后,我选择演唱《大雨将至》,这是他的名作之一,也是我从少年时期就喜爱的一首歌。)” 根据第三段“However, I was struck with a flood of emotions, rising with such intensity that I was unable to cope with them. I had not forgotten the words that were now a part of me. I was simply unable to draw them out. I had to stop, ask pardon, and try again.(然而,一股汹涌的情绪涌上心头,浓烈得让我难以承受。那些话语我从未忘记,它们早已融入我的生命里,只是我一时无法将它们诉说出来。我只好停下,请求谅解,再重新尝试。)”可知,强烈的情绪让作者难以承受,所以她停下重新开始。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“The next morning, I was greeted by many of the Nobel scientists, who showed appreciation for my very public struggle and told me my performance was a metaphor for their own struggles.(第二天早上,许多诺贝尔科学家向我致意,他们理解我这次当众的艰难时刻,并告诉我我的表演映射出他们自身的挣扎。)” 根据最后一段“In the end, I understood: we committed our work above all for the entertainment and positive change of the people, and failure was only a way to stumble, to learn, and to truly know our song, not a weakness to overcome.(最后我明白了:我们投身工作,首要目的是给人们带来愉悦与积极的改变,失败只是一次受挫、学习、真正读懂自己之歌的过程,而不是一个需要战胜的弱点。)” C Plastic pollution is a pressing global problem. C 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第二段“Unlike mechanical recycling, which only reshapes plastic, this biological process actually fragments plastic, turning it back into original chemical parts. (不同于仅重塑塑料外形的机械回收方式,这种生物处理过程实际上____塑料,将它还原成原始的化学成分。)”可知,机械回收只是改变塑料形态,而该生物过程可以把塑料拆成基础化学组分,由此推断此处fragments表示分解,与breaks down意义相近。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“researchers in Australian National University drew on earlier findings and uncovered changing a single atom (原子) in the enzyme made it break down PET almost twice as efficiently (澳大利亚国立大学的研究人员在之前研究的基础上发现,改变酶中的一个原子,就能让它降解PET的效率提升近一倍)”可知,随着研究推进、技术改良,这项技术效果更好。 根据第四段“Most critically, if plastic can be easily broken down, will consumers and manufacturers feel less forced to reduce plastic use in the first place? 由此可知,D选项“Bacteria: an assistant in fighting against plastic (细菌:对抗塑料污染的帮手)”最适合作为文章标题。 D As AI chatbots have become widespread, you may have wondered whether a piece of text was written by a human or a machine. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第一段“European Union’s AI Act took effect on 2 August, which hopes that adding watermarks will help limit the spread of misinformation and bring transparency to the use of AI. In response to this regulation, many AI firms are now adding watermarks to text, images and video created by their models.(欧盟《人工智能法案》于8月2日生效,该法案希望添加水印有助于限制虚假信息传播,让人工智能的使用更加透明。为响应这项法规,许多人工智能公司现在正在为其模型生成的文本、图像和视频添加水印。)”可知,AI公司添加水印是为了满足欧盟的法律要求。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“But Padolsey points out that these patterns can be erased by even light editing.(但是帕多西指出,即使轻微修改,这些水印模式也可以被消除。)” 根据第四段“Peter Scarfe of the University of Reading says many detection products admit in small print that they cannot conclusively prove plagiarism (抄袭). A tool might report a “67.8 percent chance” a text was AI-generated, leaving an educator unsure how to act.(雷丁大学的彼得·斯卡夫表示,许多检测产品会在小字说明中承认,它们无法确凿证明存在抄袭。一款工具可能会给出一份报告,显示某段文本“有67.8%的概率”是人工智能生成的,这让教育工作者不知该如何处理。)”可知,这个例子是为了说明检测结果并不足够确定。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Erman Ayday, however, argues that even if removing a watermark is easy, the effort may still discourage mass misuse.(然而,埃尔曼·艾戴认为,即便去除水印很容易,水印这一举措仍有可能阻止大规模滥用。)” In an age when notifications buzz constantly and social media feeds refresh endlessly, our attention has become a precious resource. F 17. B 18. E 19. G 20. In May 2024, Colt, a 26-year-old electrician, set out to hike alone in the remote Superstition Mountains. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 But halfway, Colt sat, closed his eyes and refused to move. “I can’t go on,” he gasped, his voice trembling with despair. The scorching sun baked the rocky trail, and his massive frame had reached its limit. Seeing him on the verge of giving up, Zeto knelt down. He gently poured the last drops of water into Colt’s mouth. “Think about your pregnant wife,” Zeto said firmly, gripping his shoulder. “We are almost there. I won’t leave you.” Encouraged by those words, Colt gritted his teeth, leaned heavily on the older man, and staggered to his feet. Finally, they reached Zeto’s car and headed for the hospital. As the air conditioning washed over them, tears of relief streamed down Colt’s face. He grasped Zeto’s rough hands tightly, his voice choked with gratitude. “You saved my life,” he whispered. Zeto just smiled warmly. After a medical check, the doctor confirmed Colt was safe. Later, Colt called his anxious wife to share the good news. Looking back, he realized that a true hero doesn’t just possess great skills, but a compassionate heart to help others in desperate need. 词汇激活 行为类 ①喘息:gasp/pant ②抓住;紧握:grip/grasp ③蹒跚走:stagger/stumble 情绪类 ①绝望:despair/desperation ②感激:gratitude/appreciation 【点睛】【高分句型1】Encouraged by those words, Colt gritted his teeth, leaned heavily on the older man, and staggered to his feet.
