In the old town, people hung up red lanterns for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Stores along the old streets showed traditional art forms in Tianjin. Students tried traditional games like touhu. Nowadays, many students spend most of their time in classrooms, far from nature. To change this, many schools organize (组织) study tours to the countryside. These tours help students get close to the land and learn where food comes from. In 2024, a company set up the Rice Countryside Town Study Base. It offers a program that combines (结合) rice science, farming skills, and culture.
At the base, students start at the Rice Museum. They see old farming tools and pictures that tell the story of rice farming in China. Then they take science classes about how rice grows.
Next comes farming practice. With farmers’ help, students plant rice seedlings (幼苗) by hand in wet fields. They stand in the mud (泥) and feel how hard planting is. Months later, they will return here to harvest (收获) golden rice plants. This teaches them that every bowl of rice is not easy to get.
After that, they visit a rice factory. They are surprised to learn how much work it takes to turn rough rice into the white grains we cook at home.
There are two more interesting things. One is the rice-duck system. It means farmers just put ducks in the rice fields. Then the ducks eat harmful insects, and their waste helps the rice grow. This makes farming greener. How smart the farmers are! The other thing is about the three rice festivals: Planting, Flower, and Harvest. Students can sing and dance with villagers.
Finally, every student understands that farming is not only hard work but wise science. The tour is more than a trip; it is a lesson about life, nature, and thankfulness.
8. Where do schools usually organize study tours now?
A. In companies. B. In classrooms. C. In the countryside.
9. What can students do in the farming practice?
A. Clear mud in fields. B. Grow rice by hand. C. Buy some golden rice plants.
10. What can we know about the rice-duck system in Paragraph 5?
A. It is a clever and green way of farming.
B. Farmers feed ducks with high technology.
C. The ducks help the rice only by eating insects.
11. What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A. To show the value of a rice study tour.

Wang Zhixing is a 14-year-old student from Changsha. On August 6, he was swimming at a beach in Huizhou. Suddenly, he saw a family of three struggling (挣扎) in strong waves and crying for help.
Without thinking twice, Wang took a life ring and swam to them. It was very brave of him to act quickly. He helped all three hold the life ring and started pulling them to the beach. He stopped after 20 meters, because the three people were too heavy and the waves were too strong.
But Wang did not feel nervous. He remembered his school’s safety lessons: keep calm and think before you act. He made sure they held the life ring safely, and then made a wise decision. He let go of the life ring and swam back alone to call for help. Soon, rescue workers came on a boat and brought the family back one by one. The rescue team praised his quick thinking.
Later, Wang received 10,000 yuan for his brave act. But he gave away all the money to help poor students. He said, “Bravery means having a kind heart and staying calm. We should use wisdom to help others, but always make sure we are safe first.” He thanked his school’s swimming lessons for teaching him to act wisely. His school honored him and shared his story.

What Makes Great Teenagers?
Hello, everyone. I am glad to give a speech about what makes great teenagers.
In my opinion, valuable qualities are necessary for every student. We should be persistent and keep moving forward instead of giving up easily when facing difficulties. Being responsible to ourselves and others also matters a lot. Besides, good learning habits help us make steady progress. We can make mind maps to review knowledge clearly and read books daily to broaden our horizons.
Let’s keep these fine qualities, take small actions every day, stick to our goals and become excellent teenagers!

On September 15th, 2026, Yangliuqing Ancient Town in Tianjin held a special poetry (诗歌) party. It was part of the 19th “Chinese Bridge” Competition for foreign secondary school students. 120 students from 101 countries joined in. The theme (主题) was “Under One Moon, Cultures Come Together.”
In the old town, people hung up red lanterns for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Stores along the old streets showed traditional art forms in Tianjin. Students tried traditional games like touhu. They also watched live shows of Peking Opera, classical dance and kuaiban. They thought it was valuable for them to experience Chinese culture in person.
The most important part of the day was to visit a paper-cutting workshop. Its owner is Hao Guifen, a famous paper-cutting artist in Tianjin. She has a sore back, so long hours of work can be painful. But she never lets the pain stop her. She often works late at night, when others are sleeping. This time, she and her daughter created a large paper-cutting artwork for the “Chinese Bridge” Competition. The foreign students joined them to finish the last part of the work. Hao Guifen’s spirit greatly touched them. One foreign student said, “Ms. Hao keeps cutting paper carefully, line by line, and tries to make her work perfect.”
That evening, students also read Chinese poems about family and reunion under the moon. Quentin from New Zealand read Li Bai’s poems and missed his family. Harry from the UK said, “In European stories, a full moon means mystery and fear. But in Chinese culture, the full moon is like a friend, making people think of home and family.”
Through paper-cutting and poetry, young people shared feelings and came closer to Chinese culture.
4. What could the foreign students do in the old town?
①Enjoy red lanterns. ②Draw colorful pictures.
③Try traditional games. ④Watch traditional opera shows.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①③④
5. Which word can best describe Hao Guifen?
A. Open-minded. B. Hard-working. C. Humorous.
6. What can we learn from Harry’s words in Paragraph 4?
A. The full moon means reunion in the UK.
B. He wanted to write poems about the full moon.
C. Europe and China see the full moon differently.
7. In which part of a newspaper can people read the passage?
A. Culture. B. Sports. C. Business.

B. To describe activities in the Rice Museum.
C. To explain the rice-duck system in farming.

Wang’s story teaches us that being brave is not rushing in without thought. True bravery is the courage to help others and the wisdom to make right decisions. We can be both brave and smart.
