Is there anybody who likes doing housework? For some children, doing housework may be the last thing they want to do. For many parents, getting their children to help with housework is also one big headache (令人头痛的事). However, Nurafiza, a mother from Malaysia, planned out a creative way.
Nurafiza came up with a reward system (奖励机制) for her two sons. She made a list of housework for her kids and gave them money for every task they finished. The list included cleaning up the house and putting away the toys, doing the dishes and washing the plates, and even not fighting with each other! Nurafiza also opened a “mini mart” at home where her kids could go shopping. Her three-year-old and six-year-old sons could buy snacks like biscuits (饼干) at her “mini mart” from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The money she gave to her kids was fake (假的) money. She had bought it online.
Because of this system, both of her children are almost always glad to help with housework. Her Facebook post has got over 15,000 likes and has been shared over 27,000 times. Many parents have begun to imitate (模仿) her.
In fact, doing housework plays a very important part in children’s development. First, housework teaches children basic skills for living, like cleaning up rubbish and cooking. Second, doing housework is a good way to exercise children’s bodies. Third, doing housework makes it possible for parents to share more happy moments with their kids.

A. Because she wanted her sons to help with housework.
B. Because she wanted to open a real mini mart at home.
C. Because she wanted to sell snacks to other kids.
24. What can we learn about the money Nurafiza gave to her kids?
A. It was real money bought online.
B. It could be used to buy snacks at the mini mart.
C. It was given to them once a month.

B. The importance of housework.
C. The ways to do housework.

The Yangtze finless porpoise (江豚) is a special animal living only in China’s Yangtze River. People call it the “smiling angel” because of the shape of its mouth — it appears to be smiling all the time. This creature plays an important role in the river’s ecosystem.
Sadly, the number of finless porpoises was once dropping very quickly. In fact, there were only about 1,000 in 2012. Scientists were worried because another animal, the baiji dolphin (白鱀豚), used to live in the same river. But in 2006, scientists found that the baiji dolphin had disappeared. For this reason, the government decided to take action to protect the finless porpoise.
First, the government stopped fishing in the Yangtze River for ten years. They also made new environmental laws. These steps helped a lot. By 2022, the number of finless porpoises had grown to about 1,249.
Scientists also moved some Yangtze finless porpoises to Tian’e Zhou Lake. At first, there were only five in the lake. Now there are more than 100. Besides, scientists set up a special place in Wuhan to take care of them. Here, baby Yangtze finless porpoises are born and grow up safely.
