Don’t Pollute with Light
Excessive (过度的) artificial light has become a common environmental problem today. To fight against light pollution, many areas have started to build Dark Sky zones. These specially protected areas follow strict lighting rules to preserve natural night environments.
Light Pollution in Cities
Night brightness around the world has kept rising over the past decades. Many major cities suffer from serious light pollution, which has troubled local residents for a long time. This widespread problem now affects a large share of the global population.
Impacts of Excess Light
Scientific studies have proved that too much artificial light brings a series of negative influences. It does great harm to human physical health and may raise the risk of illnesses. Meanwhile, it also disturbs the living habits of wild creatures and causes serious energy loss.
How to Reduce It
The International Dark-Sky Association has worked out practical guidelines to control outdoor lighting, which serve as important standards for building Dark Sky zones.
●Light should be directed only to where needed.
Use shielding and careful aiming to target the direction of the light beam so that it points downward and does not spill beyond where it is needed.
