推 荐 信

一、常用表达

向图书馆荐书要"说清理由+给出用法"。写这类推荐信先说明推荐哪本书,再从内容、语言、适读性三方面说明理由,最后提出具体建议;多用 I am writing to recommend... / What makes it suitable is... / I would suggest... 等句式。

1.常用句式

开头

Dear Mr Lin, I am writing to recommend a book for our school library: "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.

It is short enough to be read in a week and deep enough to be read for a lifetime.

Many students here know the title but have never opened it, which is exactly why it belongs on our shelves.

主体

What makes it suitable is its language: simple sentences, strong rhythm, and almost no difficult words, yet every page carries weight.

The story of an old fisherman who brings home only a skeleton is a lesson about dignity, not victory.

It also fits our reading programme perfectly, since it can be discussed in one class period.

结尾

I would suggest buying thirty copies and placing them beside the reading corner with a short introduction written by students.

I would be glad to help prepare the display.

Thank you for considering my suggestion. Yours sincerely, Li Hua

读后续写

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

In our class, books were something you carried, not something you opened. I carried them for my sister, who had gone to university and left two shelves of novels behind. Once a month my mother handed me a heavy paper bag and a list of five or six titles. That was true of me until the afternoon I was sent to the library to return a pile of six novels for my sister.

The librarian, Ms Shen, was mending a book with tape. The library was almost empty at half past four, and the only sounds were the tape pulling and a clock above the door. "Since you're here," she said, without looking up, "take this one. It's about a boy who hates reading." I began to explain that I was only returning books. She put a thin, worn volume into my hand. The cover showed a lighthouse and a small boat.

I took it home to be polite. That night, I read forty pages; the next night, ninety. The boy in the story was not much older than me, and he was angry in a way I recognised. I began to carry the book to school and read it behind my textbook in class. On the third night my mother knocked twice and told me to turn off the light, and I said "one more page" — a sentence I had never said in my life.

注意:续写词数应为150左右。page number 2
