B. Read the passage and choose the best answer.
Jane Austen (简·奥斯汀) is a famous British writer who lived from 1775 to 1817. Every year on the anniversary of her birth, people all over the world hold various activities to celebrate her life and great works. Her stories mainly describe ordinary people in different daily situations, with vivid and real details, and they are still very interesting and meaningful to read today.
Austen was born in a small town in England. She loved reading and writing when she was very young and started creating stories for her family in her childhood. She wrote six classic novels, and two were published after her death, letting more readers know about her wonderful writing. Her books talk about important social topics like gender, power, education and marriage through a woman’s unique eyes. For example, in Pride and Prejudice (《傲慢与偏见》), Elizabeth and her four sisters have to deal with people’s old ideas about love and marriage at that time.
Some people once thought Austen only wrote simple love stories. But now, many people see her as a smart social commentator (评论家) because she cleverly wrote about the social problems of her time in her novels. The Teen Magazine said, “Austen’s legacy is a timeless bridge connecting past and present.” She wrote about common people’s daily problems, their family relationships, and whether women should just marry for a living instead of following their hearts. These are still important and popular social topics discussed by people all over the world today. Back in Austen’s time, women had very few social rights and no real independence.
For most women, marrying a rich or powerful man was the only way to have a safe and stable (稳定的) future. But Austen’s leading heroines were totally different. They dared to speak up for themselves and strongly wanted personal independence and true love. A reader once said about her women characters, “They are strong and honest about their real feelings, which is really precious at that time.”
Because her stories talk about human problems and great ideas that never go out of style, many of them have been made into popular movies and TV shows, bringing her writing to more people.

D. To list the names of Austen’s six classic novels.
35. Which of the following social topics is NOT mentioned in Austen’s books according to the passage?
A. Education. B. Power. C. Environment. D. Gender.

B. Because she showed the social problems of her time in a clever way.
C. Because she published all her novels and became famous.
D. Because she never cared about women’s rights.
37. What does the underlined word “legacy” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. The books and ideas left behind by a person.
B. A difficult social problem in the past.
C. A famous movie or TV show.
D. A special kind of love story.
38. How were Austen’s leading heroines different from most women of her time?
A. They preferred to marry rich men for a safe future.

What do adults usually think of teenagers? Many think teenagers are “problems to ____40____”. We want them to be neat, calm and always ready to study. But after living with my teenage son, I’m starting to think about something else: maybe adults also have things to learn from them.
What surprises me most is how easily teenagers ____41____. Adults often want to be good right away. If we aren’t, we may stop and say, “I didn’t really care anyway.” My son doesn’t think like that. He decided to learn video editing for a school project, ____42____ he had never done it before. His first video looked like it was filmed on a bumpy bus. He watched a few short online lessons, tried again, failed again, and laughed the whole time. A week later, his work was already much better, with smoother transitions. Watching him ____43____ me that being bad at the start is normal.
I also notice how comfortable he is with life being a little ____44____. If I ask him at 3 p.m. whether he’ll be home for dinner, he looks at me like I’m asking about next year. His plans change all the time. Friends appear, messages come in, and ____45____ there’s an outing. My own life is the opposite: I like to plan lunches and meetings days in advance. Watching him makes me wonder if “being organized” sometimes means ____46____ chances. Maybe it’s okay to say yes to a quick coffee, a short walk, or a last-minute meet-up, instead of needing everything on a calendar.
Then comes the ____47____ ways we deal with things that haven’t happened. I’m the type of person who wants to get to the airport extremely early, as if the plane might leave because I blinked (眨眼). I watch the ____48____, imagine problems and build backup plans. My son puts on his headphones, walks calmly and acts like things will work out. Through his eyes, I can see myself: stressed, overprepared, and spending energy on problems that don’t even exist yet.
Teenagers still need _____49_____ and guidance, of course. But if we pay attention, they can push us to take life a little less seriously.

前半句“decided to learn”与后半句“never done it before”之间存在让步关系,即虽然没经验但还是决定去学。 because“因为”、as if“好像”、as soon as“一……就……”均不符合句意逻辑。
【43题详解】
句意:看着他提醒了我,开始时做得不好是正常的。
作者通过观察儿子的经历,重新意识到了“起步笨拙是正常的”这一道理。remind“提醒,使想起”符合语境,此处指儿子的行为让作者想起了这个被成年人遗忘的道理。require“要求”、reflect“反射,反思”、request“请求”均不符合搭配或语境。
【44题详解】
句意:我也注意到他对生活有点“无计划”是多么自在。
根据下文“If I ask him ... whether he’ll be home for dinner, he looks at me like I’m asking about next year.”以及“My own life is the opposite: I like to plan ...”
D. Read the passage and complete the following tasks.
Holi is India’s most colourful festival, and it celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph (胜利) of good over evil (邪恶). Every year, people throw coloured powder at each other, dance and laugh, covering themselves and everything around them in pink, blue, yellow and green. For a few days, the whole country seems to be one big, joyful party. Holding a handful of bright powder, you can walk straight into the happy smoke and colour. Strangers become friends in minutes, and nothing is off-limits: arms, hair, clothes and faces are all a potential canvas
But in India, colours are not just pretty; they carry deep meaning. Blue is the colour of the gods. In Hindu belief, Vishnu is one of the three main deities (神明), and he is often shown with blue skin. Blue reminds people that evil exists but can be controlled through courage and right actions. Krishna, another well-known god, is also drawn with blue skin, and his name means “dark”. Green is the colour of nature and happiness. It is linked to Prince Rama, who spent much of his life in the forest. In central India, married women often wear green bangles and a green sari to honour him.
Red is the colour of weddings, life and festivals. Today, brides and married women wear red, and it is seen as a lucky colour not just for Hindus but also for Muslims, Buddhists and Jains. Many people also mark a red dot, called a tilak, on their foreheads. This dot is made from turmeric powder and lime, and it is a sacred (神圣的) mark of protection.
Yellow is connected with merchants (商人) and with the gods, who are almost always shown dressed in yellow clothing. The traditional colours of Holi once came from flowers and herbs, which in India’s hot climate gave bright natural dyes (染料); today they are usually made in factories. Whether natural or modern, these colours remind everyone that life is full of joy and that light always wins over darkness. The festival is now celebrated by Hindus all over the world, bringing people together in a bright celebration of spring.

34. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce Jane Austen’s birthplace and family background.
B. To explain why people still hold activities for Austen today.
C. To give a general introduction to Jane Austen and her writing style.
D. To list the names of Austen’s six classic novels.
35. Which of the following social topics is NOT mentioned in Austen’s books according to the passage?
A. Education. B. Power. C. Environment. D. Gender.
36. Why do many people regard Austen as a smart social commentator now?
A. Because she wrote simple love stories for young readers.
B. They had very few social rights and no independence.
C. They were brave enough to fight for true love and independence.
D. They only cared about their family relationships.
39. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Austen’s stories are mainly about historical wars and famous kings.
B. Austen’s works have been adapted into movies and TV shows.
C. Most people in Austen’s time believed women should follow their hearts.
