① garbage 意为“垃圾”（不可数）；英式英语常用 rubbish，美式英语常用 trash，本课多用 garbage。

② waste 意为“废物，废料”（不可数），也可作动词，意为“浪费”；a waste of time 意为“浪费时间”。

③ instrument 意为“乐器；工具”；play an instrument 意为“演奏乐器”，表示演奏某种乐器时名词前要加 the。

④ orchestra 意为“管弦乐队”；The Orchestra of Recycled Instruments 意为“再生乐器管弦乐队”。

⑤ musician 意为“音乐家”；music（音乐）→ musician（音乐家）→ musical（音乐的）。

⑥ violin 意为“小提琴”；play the violin 意为“拉小提琴”；violinist 意为“小提琴手”。

⑦ fork 意为“叉子”，spoon 意为“勺子”；二者均为可数名词，复数直接加 -s。

⑧ hairbrush 意为“发梳”；由 hair + brush 合成，复数为 hairbrushes（加 -es）。
