In July, the US state of California chose May 17 to be Bruce Lee Day. It marked the first time a Chinese American has had a day in his honor in the state’s history. Lee was born in San Francisco in 1940, but he grew up in Hong Kong. As a kid, he acted in more than a dozen movies and learned the Chinese martial art Wing Chun. On May 17, 1959, 18-year-old Lee returned to San Francisco and began to make his way to Hollywood. There, he became one of the first Asian American superstars and made martial arts popular in the West. When Lee began working in Hollywood in the 1960s, movies often showed Asian people as bad or weak. But Lee didn’t want to play those kinds of roles, even if it meant losing some acting jobs. Instead, he created a new image for himself: smart, strong and amazing at martial arts. This brought pride and confidence to Asian American people. What’s more, Lee connected with people of all races (种族) because of the messages in his movies. In his movie The Big Boss, he fought alongside workers. In Fist of Fury, he stood up against the unfair treatment of Chinese people. By playing a hero who protects the weak, he made people from all backgrounds feel strong. “He served as a cultural bridge between the East and West,” noted Black Belt Magazine. 19. Why did California choose May 17 as Bruce Lee Day? A. It was the day Lee was born. B. It was the day Lee died. C. It marked Lee’s return to the US. D. It was the day his first movie came out. 20. What changes did Bruce Lee bring to the screen? A. He helped martial arts movies reach more Asian people. B. Asian American actors got more roles in movies. C. Asian Americans began to have a positive screen image. D. Fewer weak and negative characters appeared in movies. 21. According to Paragraph 4, what values do Bruce Lee’s movies carry? A. Learning martial arts to become powerful. B. Building friendship between different countries. C. Achieving success through hard work. D. Standing up for the weak and fighting for fairness. 22. What is the passage mainly about? A. Bruce Lee’s early life in Hong Kong. B. Bruce Lee’s journey to Hollywood. C. Bruce Lee’s movies and martial arts skills. D. Bruce Lee’s influence as a kung fu star. C How many boundaries (界限) do we cross without realizing it? On Aug 30, I stood at the starting line of the Sydney Marathon, excited to take part in my first World Marathon Majors. I had just traveled all the way from China to Australia. Around me were about 40,000 runners from over 140 countries. The first 24 kilometers felt almost easy as I moved through the streets of Sydney. Then I met a boundary, one I could not “see” but could feel in my body. At 24 kilometers, my legs became heavy, and running suddenly felt like a challenge. My pacer (配速员) noticed the change in my running form and showed me a small change that helped me save energy. He was from Sydney. As we ran together, he talked about pacers he had met from the US, the UK, Norway and China. It reminded me of a friend I met during a half marathon in Tokyo in 2024; we finished the race together. In 2025, she sent me information about entering the Sydney Marathon. I managed to get a place, but she did not. Although she was not there on race day, her encouragement played a key role in helping me get to the starting line. That is what I love about running. It provides us with more boundaries to break: the borders (边界) between countries, the relationship between friends, and the connections between strangers. When I finally crossed the finish line, I realized that the marathon was never just a race. The farther I ran, the more boundaries I broke – and the more connected my world became. 23. What do we know about the Sydney Marathon? A. The runners came from many countries. B. It started at the Harbour Bridge. C. It was the writer’s first half marathon. D. The whole race was 24 kilometers long. 24. What happened to the writer at 24 kilometers? A. She hurt her legs in an accident. B. She decided to slow down and walk. C. She began to feel tired but kept running. D. She thought about giving up the race. 25. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A. The pacer’s talk about other pacers. B. The writer’s run with her friend. C. The change in the writer’s running. D. The pacer’s advice on the writer’s form. 26. What does the writer want to show by mentioning her friend? A. She wished her friend had been there. B. One cannot finish a marathon without others’ help. C. Marathons have helped her connect with others. D. There are many talented runners in the world. D ①Gas or electric? In Hainan province, the answer may soon be much easier. Hainan will stop the sale of new gasoline-powered cars (燃油汽车) by 2030. The plan was first put forward in 2018, making Hainan one of the first places in China to push for new energy vehicles (NEVs, 新能源汽车). Why is Hainan taking the lead? ②The reason goes back more than 30 years. Since 1994, Hainan has included the cost to fix roads and highway use in fuel prices. As a result, fuel prices are higher than in other parts of the country. For example, in May this year, 92-octane gasoline cost 9.89 yuan per liter in Hainan, compared with 8.74 yuan in Shanghai, which makes NEVs more attractive to drivers. ③Hainan’s warm weather is another advantage. Cold weather can make NEVs lose power faster, while Hainan stays warm for most of the year. Its island location also helps control the number of gasoline-powered cars entering from other provinces. ④Above all, Hainan has built a large network of charging stations (充电站). Facts showed that by August 2025, the province had more than 230,000 places to charge cars, with about one for every 2.1 EVs. All highway service areas and towns are fully covered. ⑤These efforts have helped make NEVs popular in the province. In 2025, Hainan sold 116,800 NEVs, which made up 62.9 percent of all new vehicle sales. ⑥ However, the 2030 rule does not mean gasoline-powered cars will disappear. People can still drive vehicles that have already been officially recorded. In addition, the rule does not cover special vehicles such as fire trucks, so public services can continue to work as usual. 27. Why is Hainan having more electric vehicles according to paragraph2&3 ? ①Rules and costs. ②Road conditions. ③Climate and geography. ④Services and markets. A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④ 28. What do the facts on charging stations show? A. Charging stations are expensive to build. B. Every NEV has one changing station in Hainan. C. Hainan’s charging network is the largest in China. D. Hainan has a big and good charging network. 29. Why does the writer believe NEVs are the future? A. Because the number of Gasoline cars is rising every year. B. Because Gasoline vehicles produce less CO2 than NEVs. C. Because NEVs are the most environmentally friendly now. D. Because Electric cars have the highest carbon emissions. 30. What can we infer from the passage? A. Gasoline-powered cars will soon disappear in Hainan. B. Hainan will gradually see fewer gasoline-powered cars. C. Most special-purpose vehicles in Hainan will be NEVs. D. More cars will be allowed on Hainan’s roads. 第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的A—E五个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项为多余选项),将其序号填入第31-34题,并回答第35题。 Do you often have negative thoughts?
