At times, people want to look a bit more like someone else. The photos you see on the screen can give you ideas about how your bodies “should” look. However, you are all different in your own way. Accepting who you are can help you feel happier and more positive about yourself.
Self-acceptance (自我接纳) means appreciating what you’re good at, like sports, science or music. It also means valuing the parts of you that don’t shine brightly, like being forgetful or untidy. It’s a habit about being kind to yourself even when you make a mistake. In other words, just accept who you are no matter what other people say or think.
When you accept who you are, you worry less about things you can’t change. This makes you feel happier and more confident. Everyone can feel as if they have to appear perfect. That leads us to forget about the little things that make us special, because we’re so busy trying to meet (满足) someone else’s standards. Self-acceptance can also help you discover what you’re really good at.
Start by making a list of all the things you like about yourself. Maybe you’re good at cooking, or people find it easy to talk to you. Ask your friends for help. Also, try saying kind, positive things to yourself in a mirror every morning. Think up ways to treat yourself, like taking a long bath or watching your favourite film, and spend some quality time on your own. It’s also important to look after yourself by eating healthy food and getting plenty of sleep.
19. According to Paragraph 1, what should we try to do?
A. To change our looks. B. To learn from others.
C. To shorten screen time. D. To accept ourselves.
20. What does the underlined word “appreciating” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Wondering. B. Admiring. C. Practising. D. Forgetting.
21. Which paragraph mainly talks about the ways of self-acceptance?
A. Paragraph 1. B. Paragraph 2. C. Paragraph 3. D. Paragraph 4.
22. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Where there is love, there is life.
C. You are imperfect, but you are beautiful. D. Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.

Researchers from Peking University created a new tool called ThermoFace. Different from older ways to look at one’s body temperature, it looks at different parts of the face to check people’s age and health.
The face has many blood vessels. With their help, ThermoFace can find “hot” and “cool” areas in the face that change with age and illness. For example, as people become older, the temperature of their nose goes down faster than other parts of their face. If someone’s nose is warmer, it means he has a younger age. However, the area around the eyes usually gets hotter as people get older. Scientists also find that people with high blood pressure have warmer cheeks. With ThermoFace, doctors can notice people’s illness earlier. They can do more tests and give advice.
Will ThermoFace work the same for everyone? We still don’t know. Other factors, like exercise and eating ice cream, can change the temperature of your face. The tool can’t tell us why something happened, but it can show doctors that there might be a problem.
ThermoFace is helpful for research, but we still need to find out if it can be used in real life to help doctors.
23. What can ThermoFace mainly do?
A. It can tell someone’s name. B. It can check someone’s health.
C. It can change someone’s face. D. It can take someone’s temperature.
24. Which is probably the result of the research? (area of eyes: — area of nose: - -)
A. B. C. D.
25. What does the writer think of ThermoFace in real-life use?
A. Helpful. B. Difficult. C. Successful. D. Unsure.

Hey there! Picture this in your mind: It’s sunset in South Africa, and a giraffe is napping (小憩) while standing tall. This is how giraffes get some rest and stay safe. Want to have a break like a giraffe?
Inspired (受启发的) by the cute animal, a Japanese factory made a standing box called Giraffenap. It’s made for people to take a break from busy work. It looks like a telephone box. With this box, you don’t have to lie down to catch some Z’s (睡觉), just like the giraffe.
But why standing? A study has found that when you sleep on your feet, it can make you get directly into Sleep Stage 2(N2), just like in bed. At this stage, you breathe (呼吸) easily and would be clearheaded when you get up. Other studies say that sleep while standing can make you perform better at work. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go.
And guess what? Another great thing is that this box doesn’t take up too much space. Besides, you don’t need to worry about falling down. The soft cushions (软垫) can help you rest your arms, legs and head while you are standing. To get more comfortable, you can change the cushion height, the lighting, temperature and sound.
Sounds fun, right? You can buy a Giraffenap on our website. Go ahead and nap like a giraffe!

【答案】19. D 20. B 21. D 22. C
【解析】

【22题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文主旨“Accepting who you are can help you feel happier... valuing the parts of you that don’t shine brightly”可推知,文章传达了接纳不完美的自己的观点,即“你不完美,但你很美”。

A. Helpful. B. Difficult. C. Successful. D. Unsure.
【答案】23. B 24. A 25. D
【解析】

细节理解题。文章第一段指出了ThermoFace的主要作用:“it looks at different parts of the face to check people’s age and health”,ThermoFace的主要作用是检测人们的健康状况。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。文章第二段介绍了面部部分区域的温度会随着年龄的增长而发生变化:“as people become older, the temperature of their nose goes down faster than other parts of their face... However, the area around the eyes usually gets hotter as people get older”,随着年龄增长,眼部(实线)温度呈上升趋势,鼻部(虚线)温度呈下降趋势,符合该规律的是选项A的图表。
【25题详解】
观点态度题。根据文章第四段“ThermoFace is helpful for research, but we still need to find out if it can be used in real life to help doctors”可推知,作者认为ThermoFace在现实生活中的应用情况还不明确,持不确定的态度。
