There was a clock on the wall of our classroom. It wasn’t special - just a white face with black numbers. For three years, the clock has    1    caught my attention. It was simply there, like the desks or chairs.

Almost    2    started to feel different when it came to Grade Nine. The lessons got harder, the days got longer and our stress became greater. And the clock? It seemed the only thing that remained the same and started to catch my eye slowly. During maths tests when my mind went blank, I’d raise my head and look at it. Its hands kept moving as usual - neither faster nor slower. It never    3    and it never stopped. It just did what it was supposed to do, day after day.

One afternoon, I had to stay after school to finish some exercises. With the classroom    4   , the clock tick sounded loud. I stared at it, and for the first time it led me into deep thought. This clock had been hanging over here for years, watching thousands of students come and go. It watched us laugh, try,    5   , and try again. And through it all, it just kept telling time,    6    no one was watching and praising it. That was simply its job.

I remembered what my mother told me, “The    7    thing isn’t doing something big. It’s doing the small thing, every single day, without anyone’s    8   .” Maybe that was it.

9    by the clock, I turned back to my desk and opened my textbook. I knew countless tasks and tough (艰难的) challenges still lay ahead. But somehow, I felt like I could    10    all difficulties and keep moving forward. The clock would not stop and neither would I.
