During the National Day holiday, my family and I took a trip to Zhangjiajie. Zhangjiajie is in Hunan Province, and it’s famous for its unique sandstone peaks (砂岩峰林) that inspired the movie Avatar.
We arrived in Zhangjiajie by plane. The next morning, we went to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. As soon as we entered the park, we were shocked by the beautiful scenery. There are thousands of tall sandstone peaks standing in the mist (薄雾), and some of them look like people or animals. We took a cable car (缆车) to the top of a mountain. From there, we could see the whole park. The view was so amazing that we took hundreds of photos.
In the afternoon, we walked along the Glass Bridge. The bridge is built between two mountains, and it’s made of glass. On the third day, we visited Tianmen Mountain. We took the longest cable car ride in the world to the top of the mountain. The ride took about 28 minutes, and we enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountains and forests along the way. At the top, we walked through Tianmen Cave, a big natural cave in the mountain. Why Traveling Is Good for You
Do you like traveling? More and more people enjoy traveling during their holidays. But why is traveling so popular? Here are some reasons.
First, traveling helps you learn about the world. When you visit a new place, you see different people, food, and cultures. For example, if you go to Yunnan, you can try crossing-the-bridge rice noodles and learn about the Dai people’s festivals. These experiences are much more interesting than reading about them in books.
Second, traveling is good for your health. Walking in mountains or swimming in the sea gives your body exercise. Also, being in nature helps you relax and forget your worries. Many people say they sleep better after a trip.
Third, traveling makes your life more colorful. You can try new things like riding an elephant in Thailand or skiing in Harbin. Even if something goes wrong — like losing your way or missing a bus — these become funny stories to tell your friends later.
However, traveling also has some problems. It can be expensive and tiring. Sometimes the weather is bad or the food doesn’t taste good. But most travelers agree that the good things are more than the bad ones.

Dear Li Hua,
I’m writing this email to invite you to my new house this Sunday and help me do housework and decorate my bedroom together. I moved into this community last month, and my bedroom still looks empty and boring. I hope we can make it warm and sweet in one day.

Once there were thousands of Gourma Desert (沙漠) elephants in Mali, a country in West Africa. Now there are fewer than four hundred.
Why did the number of the elephants drop so quickly? On the one hand, the elephants’ main lake, their only water source (来源) dried up. On the other hand, the land which the elephants lived on was overused by humans.
To protect the elephants’ living environment, the Mali Elephant Project (MEP) was started in 2007. MEP met with local people and helped them make rules of using land and water. As a result, the situation became better and there was more food, forests and grassland.
However, from 2012 to 2016, poaching and illegal (非法的) trade in the elephants increased rapidly. Eighty-three elephants were lost in 2015 alone, and another fifty-one elephants were killed in 2016. “If this situation goes on, all the Gourma elephants will be killed by 2025,” said a member of MEP.

The giant panda is one of the most amazing animals in the world. It lives in the bamboo forests of China. Pandas are black and white, and they look very cute.
Pandas mainly feed on bamboo. They spend most of their day eating bamboo. Because bamboo doesn’t have much nutrition, pandas need to eat a lot of it. Pandas are also good at climbing trees, even though they are a bit fat.
Giant pandas are an endangered species. The number of pandas in the wild is very small. The main reason is that their habitat is being destroyed. People are cutting down bamboo forests, so pandas have less food to eat. We need to protect pandas and their habitats to ensure their survival.
