A crude, low-tech animation (动画片) about a cow and a skylark (云雀) has become a sleeper hit at China’s box office, sitting alongside blockbusters such as The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinema profit rankings. Niu Lai, which translates to The Cow is Coming, is an 86-minute budget animation about a newborn calf and a skylark whose relationship develops over the course of an abstract dream sequence (片段). Released on 5 August, the film reportedly made just 7,700 yuan (£842) in its first 10 days of screenings, with fewer than 300 people nationwide buying a ticket. It did not have any trailer (预告片), pre-release publicity or even advertisement. But discussion online about how bad the film was turned it into a meme, which drove hordes of film fans to the cinema. It has now made more than 14.9 million yuan, according to the movie tracking site Mao Yan, making it one of the top-performing films of the year.
Niu Lai’s success appears to stem less from its merits and more from its “so bad it’s good” energy. Made by just two people over five years, it is the opposite of the bedazzling animations that have attracted huge crowds in China in recent years, such as Ne Zha 2 and Ba Xian. The film’s writers, directors, voice actors and producers are Xin Yumeng and Sun Lifang, who are reported to be a mother and son team.
Some film fans have praised the shoddy animation as a welcome tonic in the age of artificial intelligence. One user wrote on the film review website Douban: “In an era where AI is so popular, did the creative team choose a handcrafted, somewhat poor visual style in order to convey a sense of ‘returning to one’s true self?’”
One film industry professional, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said Niu Lai was unique because it was “bad in every aspect imaginable, including the story, special effects and almost every element that a movie is expected to have”. “Ironically, this is exactly what attracted audience curiosity,” he said.
24.What can we learn about the film Niu Lai?
A.It gained great popularity right after its release.
B.It received no marketing work before its showing.
C.It earned 14.9 million yuan within its first ten days.
D.It was widely praised by audiences when it was first screened.
25.What does the underlined word “bedazzling” most probably mean?
A.awkward B.amazing C.confusing D.strategic
26.What can we infer from the Douban user’s comment?
A.The user guesses the poor style may carry special creative purposes.
B.The user believes AI should be widely used in animation creation.
C.The user thinks the film’s poor quality is completely unacceptable.
D.The user suggests more hand‑made films should be produced immediately.
27.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Chinese audiences prefer “so‑bad‑it‑is‑good” movies.
B.AI‑produced animations are losing popularity among Chinese audiences.
C.Niu Lai sets a good example for low‑budget film creation.
D.A poorly‑made animation became an unexpected box‑office success.

School is still out for the summer, but at Eastern Senior High School in Washington, D.C., students are hard at work outdoors. In a garden filled with flowers and beds bursting with vegetables and herbs, nearly a dozen teenagers are harvesting (收获) vegetables for the weekend’s farmers’ market.
Roshawn Little is going into her junior year at Eastern, and has been working in this garden for three years now. During the summer, Little gets paid to work Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. with City Blossoms, a nonprofit that brings community gardens to schools in urban areas. She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. And she’s taken those healthy behaviors home with her and her eating habits have encouraged her family to buy more fruits and vegetables.
City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country teaming up with local communities to build school gardens, like the one at Eastern. It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers in how to use them to get students busy and improve students’ academic performance These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed and learning the science of how plants grow.
For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to 15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers have reported seeing increased student engagement, according to an independent evaluation (评价) conducted by PEER Associates.
28.What does Roshawn Little think of the summer outdoor activity?
A.It is a good way to earn pocket money. B.It helps her develop healthy eating habits.
C.It has improved her family relationship. D.It is valuable to her academic performance.
29.What is the purpose of the school gardens?
A.To provide a creative way of learning. B.To advance teachers’ teaching skills.
C.To get students interested in science. D.To invite students to care for plants.
30.What does the last paragraph focus on about school gardens?
A.Its effects. B.Its aims. C.Its rules. D.Its expectations.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.City Blossoms: Team Up with Local Community Teachers.
B.Outdoor Classrooms: Get out for the Weekend’s Farmers’ Market.
C.What School Gardens Teach Kids: Healthy Eating, Smart Minds.
D.How Kids Enjoy the Harvest: Happy Holiday, Sweet Memories.

When a Welsh factory owner, Robert Owen, announced in 1817: “Eight hours work, eight hours play, eight hours rest”, he just meant a fairer work week for his workers. However, the idea that sleeping eight hours a night is the best has since become the received wisdom.
In 2015, two big studies tried to work out exactly how much sleep was needed. The first, published in Sleep Health, reviewed 575 studies published between 2004 and 2014. For those aged 18-64, the recommended amount was between seven and nine hours a night, but that fell to just seven or eight hours for those over 65. The second, published in Sleep, analysed 311 studies. It concluded that around seven hours of shut-eye was the best target, but noted uncertainty about the side effects of regularly sleeping longer than nine hours.
A more recent study, published in Nature, refined these estimates (估算) by studying the effects of sleep time on certain parts of the body, including the brain, lungs, liver and skin. The team led by Dr Wen tracked the medical records of 500,000 adults (much of the data came from the UK BioBank, a big database). Their findings suggested that the best amount of sleep was 6.5-7.8 hours for women and 6.4-7.7 hours for men.
“But those who have difficulty in getting a full night’s rest should not worry too much,” says Michael Grandner, a doctor at the University of Arizona. “Applying population-level results to individual lives is tricky, for one thing. For another, analyzing cause and effect is not easy. Besides, time is just one measure. Quality, regularity and continuity of sleep matter, too. My advice is: Don’t freak out about any particular number, unless it’s a very unusual number.”
Dr Grandner’s advice was supported by a 2025 survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. It found that 76% of respondents had lost sleep because of worries about sleep.
“Aim for six to eight hours a night. But don’t worry too much about the exact number,” Dr Wen agrees. “Listen to what your body is telling you. Everything would be all right if you feel refreshed when you wake up.”
32.Why did Robert Owen allow his workers to rest eight hours a day?
A.To popularize his new discovery. B.To meet the requirement of the law.
C.To attract more talented workers. D.To show his kindness to the workers.
33.What can be learned from the second paragraph?
A.Scientists haven’t agreed on the exact sleep time.
B.Active people need shorter sleep time each night.
C.Eight hours of sleep is the best target for adults.
D.It is harmful to sleep longer than nine hours a night.
34.What does Michael Grandner suggest we do?
A.Turn to the doctor for help in time. B.Don’t worry about the number too much.
C.Track the number on a regular basis. D.Pay closer attention to the quality of sleep.
35.What does Dr Wen probably think of Dr Grandner’s advice?
A.It is strange. B.It is confusing. C.It is reasonable. D.It is unscientific.
In today’s world, where almost anything can be turned into a “blind box”, even surplus food has joined the trend. 36 This service began in 2015 on a Danish website called Too Good To Go, and was introduced to China a few years later.
37 Packaging it into blind boxes helps reduce food waste and has attracted many young customers. For example, a bread blind box costing 15.9 yuan might include three to four types of bread that would normally cost around 50 yuan.
38 Many people have posted online complaints about food quality. “Although I expected it not to be fresh, can you at least ensure food safety and hygiene (卫生)?” wrote one internet user. After picking up his order and storing it in the fridge, he found the bread filling had turned sour by the next morning. In some cases, bread is simply packed in plastic bags without information like expiration dates, making safety hard to guarantee.
There are many platforms offering this service. But most orders must be picked up after 7 or 8 p.m. 39
Although leftover blind boxes help reduce food waste and protect the environment, issues like not being able to choose items, no refunds, and safety concerns raise questions about whether they are truly worth buying. Companies and platforms should take social responsibility by providing more reliable products and support to ensure long-term development. 40 Meanwhile, consumers need to improve their awareness of food resources to better enjoy quality food at a good price.
A.However, these blind boxes have also faced criticism.
B.Most countries have strict laws to control food waste in daily life.
C.A regulatory system should also be set up to ensure food safety.
D.The food usually includes bread, freshly made drinks, and fruit.
E.If customers fail to pick up on time, they cannot cancel or get a refund (退款).
F.Blind boxes have become popular among people of all ages in recent years.
G.A leftover blind box contains food close to its expiration date (保质期) and is sold at a very low price.

Arthur had always been a top student in middle school, but the thought of starting high school filled him with anxiety. He was worried about the heavy workload and, most importantly, making new friends. His high school was much larger than his old school, and everything seemed unfamiliar.
On the first day of school, Arthur arrived early. He had checked his schedule a dozen times: his first class was History in Room 412, located on the fourth floor of the North Building. He confidently walked up the stairs, taking in the sights and sounds of older students chatting and laughing in the hallways.
However, when he reached the fourth floor, the numbers on the doors didn’t make sense. Room 401, 403, 405... but there was no 412. He walked to the end of the hallway and turned a corner, only to find himself in a completely different wing. The bell for the first class rang loudly, echoing through the empty halls. Arthur’s heart began to race. He was going to be late on his very first day!
He hurriedly opened the nearest door and stepped inside. The classroom was quiet, and older students were sitting at their desks, staring at him. At the front of the room stood a tall teacher with glasses, holding a complicated-looking math textbook.
“Can I help you?” the teacher asked, looking at Arthur over his glasses.
Arthur’s face turned bright red. “I...I think I’m in the wrong place,” he stammered “I’m looking for Room 412, History.”
Some of the older students giggled, which made Arthur want to disappear into the floor.

【答案】24.B 25.B 26.A 27.D
根据第二段“It did not have any trailer (预告片), pre-release publicity or even advertisement.(它没有任何预告片、上映前宣传,甚至没有广告。)”
根据第三段“Made by just two people over five years, it is the opposite of the bedazzling animations that have attracted huge crowds in China in recent years, such as Ne Zha 2 and Ba Xian.(这部影片由两个人耗时五年制作而成,和近年来在中国吸引大量观众的____动画(如《哪吒2》《八仙》)截然相反。)”
根据第四段“One user wrote on the film review website Douban: “In an era where AI is so popular, did the creative team choose a handcrafted, somewhat poor visual style in order to convey a sense of ‘returning to one’s true self?’”(一位用户在影评网站豆瓣上写道:“在 AI 盛行的时代,创作团队选择这种手工制作、观感略显粗糙的视觉风格,是否是为了传递一种‘回归本真’的感觉?”)”
C
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.A 31.C
根据第二段中的“She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. And she’s taken those healthy behaviors home with her and her eating habits have encouraged her family to buy more fruits and vegetables.(她认为在菜园劳作教会她尝试各类新事物,比如多吃不同种类的蔬菜。她把这些健康习惯带回家,她的饮食习惯促使家人购买更多蔬果。)”可知,Roshawn Little认为这项户外活动帮助她养成健康的饮食习惯。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers in how to use them to get students busy and improve students’ academic performance (学业成绩). These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. (它和学校合作打造学习菜园,培训教师利用菜园调动学生积极性并提升学生学业成绩。这些菜园实际上就是户外教室。)”可知,校园菜园的目的是提供一种创新的学习方式。
30.主旨大意题。根据最后一段中的“For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to 15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers have reported seeing increased student engagement, according to an independent evaluation conducted by PEER Associates.(对于学生们来说,这段经历在营养方面大开眼界,它彻底改变了他们对于食物来源以及生产食物需要付出什么的看法。由PEER联合机构开展的一项独立评估显示,合作学校的学生标准化考试及格人数也增长了12%至15%,并且94%的教师反馈学生的参与度有所提升。)”可知,本段重点介绍校园菜园带来的各类成效与影响。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是尾段中的“For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to 15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers have reported seeing increased student engagement, according to an independent evaluation conducted by PEER Associates.(对于学生们来说,这段经历在营养方面大开眼界,它彻底改变了他们对于食物来源以及生产食物需要付出什么的看法。

【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B 35.C
根据第一段“When a Welsh factory owner, Robert Owen, announced in 1817: “Eight hours work, eight hours play, eight hours rest”, he just meant a fairer work week for his workers. (威尔士工厂主Robert Owen在1817年提出:“八小时工作,八小时娱乐,八小时休息”,他只是想让工人拥有更公平的工作周。)”可知,Robert Owen提出每日8小时休息是为了给工人更公平的工作周,体现对工人的善意。

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

37.根据后文“Packaging it into blind boxes helps reduce food waste and has attracted many young customers. For example, a bread blind box costing 15.9 yuan might include three to four types of bread that would normally cost around 50 yuan.(将产品装入盲盒有助于减少食物浪费,并吸引了许多年轻消费者。例如,一个售价15.9元的面包盲盒可能包含三到四种面包,而这些面包通常需要约50元)”可知,空后提到将这类食品打包成盲盒能减少食物浪费,还举例了面包盲盒,空处应介绍盲盒内的食品品类,D项“食物通常包括面包、现做的饮品和水果”说明盲盒食品通常包含面包、现制饮品和水果,衔接后文举例,逻辑通顺。
38.根据后文“Many people have posted online complaints about food quality. “Although I expected it not to be fresh, can you at least ensure food safety and hygiene (卫生)?” wrote one internet user. After picking up his order and storing it in the fridge, he found the bread filling had turned sour by the next morning. In some cases, bread is simply packed in plastic bags without information like expiration dates, making safety hard to guarantee.(许多人在网上抱怨食品质量。
39.根据上文“There are many platforms offering this service. But most orders must be picked up after 7 or 8 p.m.(有许多平台提供这项服务,但大多数订单必须在晚上7点或8点之后取货)”可知,空前说明多数订单要求晚上七八点后自提,E项“如果顾客未能按时取货,则无法取消订单或获得退款”承接该规则,说明消费者若未按时取货无法取消订单或退款,和后文提到的“不支持退款”的问题呼应。
40.根据上文“Although leftover blind boxes help reduce food waste and protect the environment, issues like not being able to choose items, no refunds, and safety concerns raise questions about whether they are truly worth buying. Companies and platforms should take social responsibility by providing more reliable products and support to ensure long-term development.(尽管剩余盲盒有助于减少食物浪费并保护环境,但无法选择商品、不退款以及安全问题等种种困扰,引发了人们对其是否真正值得购买的疑问。

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: The teacher smiled gently and pointed towards the door.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: When Arthur finally arrived at Room 412, he took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The teacher smiled gently and pointed towards the door. “Don’t worry,” he said warmly. “We’ve all got lost on our first day. Your History class is in the North Building, same floor. Walk back down this hallway, turn left, and you’ll find Room 412.” Hearing his soothing voice, Arthur felt the butterflies in his stomach settle. His face, which had been burning with embarrassment, began to cool. He thanked the teacher with a respectful bow and hurried out, feeling a warm surge of relief.
When Arthur finally arrived at Room 412, he took a deep breath before knocking on the door. He stood straight and gave a light knock. As the door opened, a kind-looking teacher welcomed him with an understanding smile and gestured for him to take a seat. Arthur slipped into an empty chair next to a friendly-looking boy, who handed him a pencil with a warm grin. Looking around the bright classroom, Arthur realized high school wasn’t as terrifying as he had feared. He opened his textbook and smiled — he was ready for this new adventure.
