B Every Saturday, 12 Baskets Café becomes a newsroom. Homeless and low-income writers gather there, filling the large tables with laptops and iPads. They are producing the Intersection, a newspaper that gives voice to those often ignored. The heart of the paper is Melissa Mayes, a retired nurse. Though disabled and struggling to afford food, she spent five years sleeping on couches before getting her own apartment. Her article, Have You Seen Her?, describes homeless women as “brave, determined, hopeful” — words that come from her own painful experience. For her, writing is not just reporting; it’s healing (疗愈). The idea for the paper came from Leslee Johnson, a university lecturer. Four years ago, she started having lunch at the café, drawn by its warm atmosphere. When regulars learned she was a writer, they shared their own stories. Johnson started a writing group. Finally, in 2025, stricter laws on begging (乞讨) were released, directly affecting the café’s regulars. “We knew we needed to step up,” said Ben Williamson, director of the supporting nonprofit. And soon the group grew into a newspaper project. Asheville, a city of 95,000, faces severe poverty and expensive housing. The Intersection aims to break stereotypes (刻板印象) by publishing works from those living in deep poverty. Sellers, wearing blue vests, buy copies for $1 each and sell them for $4, earning an honest income. Emily Witherspoon, once homeless for two years, now sells the paper. “It’s fun, and it’s legal,” she said with a smile. “You don’t have to worry about getting arrested.” Beyond the paper, Johnson also runs an education program, bringing college classes to those struggling financially. “There is so much creativity and brilliance that goes unheard,” she said. “If I can create a space to shine light on that, I feel it’s my duty.” For the writers at 12 Baskets Café, that light is finally shining. 24.What does Melissa Mayes gain from writing for the paper? A.A stable income. B.Professional recognition. C.A job opportunity. D.Psychological comfort. 25.What provided the final push for the launch of the Intersection? A.A policy change. B.Regulars’ writing talent. C.A casual encounter. D.Johnson’s teaching duty. 26.What is the Intersection’s role in Asheville? A.It provides legal advice. B.It removes public prejudice. C.It serves as a government medium. D.It helps solve local housing crisis. 27.Why does the author quote Johnson in the last paragraph? A.To display the necessity of education. B.To explain the paper’s future plans. C.To highlight the value of unheard voices. D.To expose the writers’ artistic talent. C Batteries are getting smaller, lighter and more powerful all the time. This is good news for industries and buyers of products ranging from electric cars to mobile phones. But for some applications, the conventional shape and structure of a battery is simply too heavy and awkward to use. For example, skin patches (贴片) that monitor health conditions, require more close contact. Since batteries can’t bend like skin and tissue, they become unreliable and uncomfortable to wear. A number of approaches are therefore being taken to produce flexible batteries. Among the most promising, though, are water-based batteries inspired by the way an electric eel (鳗鱼) stores its charge. A group at the University of Cambridge has used the eel’s technique to come up with what it calls “jelly batteries”. These are made from materials consisting of over 60% water. This makes them both soft and flexible. Whereas most batteries lose conductivity if the material is bent or stretched, a jelly battery can be stretched up to one-and-a-half times its length with no voltage (电压) loss. This means it can be worn more comfortably against the skin and is more reliable when transplanted into internal organs, like the lung, heart or brain. The jelly battery works in much the same way that biological processes produce electricity. They rely on the different concentrations of electrically charged particles (粒子). This creates a difference in electrical potential, producing a tiny voltage. Electric eels strengthen it by having thousands of muscle cells acting together to produce a voltage powerful enough to hunt. Besides wearable and implantable devices, another potential market for stretchable batteries is soft robotics. For one thing, stretchy components would be safer to operate among people than traditional robots. They could also help power other devices, such as gloves that allow stroke victims to move their hands. All this should provide plenty of ideas for wearable innovations. 28.What is the challenge faced by conventional batteries? A.Outdated appearance. B.Too pricy for skin patches. C.Unsuitable size for electric cars. D.Too weighty for some uses. 29.What is the key feature of the “jelly batteries”? A.They are super conductive when stretched up. B.They can be extended or bent easily without voltage loss. C.They are soft and flexible when surrounded by water. D.They are more comfortable when transplanted into bodies. 30.How does the jelly battery generate electricity? A.By using charged particles for potential. B.By muscle cells producing voltage. C.By adding stretchy components. D.By strengthening voltage like electric eels. 31.What can be inferred about the battery market? A.Demand for flexible batteries is decreasing. B.The market focuses only on industrial batteries. C.The market is adapting to flexible solutions. D.There is no investment in new battery technology. D A computer that relies on fungal (真菌的) networks to store information could one day be an alternative to the current generation of memory devices, according to research published in PLOS One. Scientists have built working memristors (忆阻器) — circuitry elements that “remember” their past electrical activity — from the root-like part of a mushroom called the mycelium. The result is a memristor with performance comparable to that of a silicon-based chip, but it has its own benefits in ways many computer components today do not. “Being able to develop microchips that act like real brain cells means you don’t need a lot of power when the machine isn’t being used,” says lead researcher John LaRocco of Ohio State University. “That can bring a huge potential advantage.” Scientists have thought about using mushrooms as computer parts, mostly because fungal networks work in ways similar to neural systems. They have a similar structure. And they send information using electrical and chemical signals, just like a brain. But the fact that they aren’t actually brains means some engineering is needed to make them do what scientists need them to do. The team grew the mushroom mycelium under controlled conditions. Then they dried the samples in sunlight to ensure long-term stability. Finally, they connected them to a circuit to test their performance. “We would connect electrical wires at different points on the mushrooms,” LaRocco says. “Depending on the voltage (电压) and connectivity, we were seeing different performances.” The researchers achieved a performance of 5,850 Hertz, with an accuracy of 90 percent from their mushroom memristor - that is, it switches signals at a speed of about 5,850 times per second. The researchers also found that as the electrical voltage increased, the mushroom’s performance decreased. They were able to fix it by adding more mushrooms to the circuit. You’re not going to have a mycelial computer any time soon. Still, the findings do suggest that this is a promising path for future research. As the researchers note in their paper, “The future of computing could be fungal.” 32. What can be learned about working memristors built from mycelium? A. They are shaped like real mushrooms. B. They need less power when not working. C. They perform much better than traditional chips. D. They have become a new way to store information. 33. Why do scientists choose mushrooms as computer components? A. They have brain-like working networks. B. They can process information like humans. C. They grow quickly in controlled conditions. D. They can work with electrical signals alone. 34. What do the findings on mushroom memristors show? A. Higher voltage improves accuracy. B. Connectivity has no influence on results. C. They remain stable when voltage changes. D. Network expansion improves their performance. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. Challenges of creating biological computer chips. B. Advantages of mushroom-based memory devices. C. A comparison between fungal and neural networks. D. A breakthrough in developing bio-computing components. 第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Throughout high school, I was on the school swimming team and buried in tough AP courses. You may not post anything without my consent (许可).” These words, posted on Instagram by 14-year-old Apple Martin in response to an image of her shared by her mum, Gwyneth Paltrow, have aroused again the 41 over whether it is ever OK to put pictures of your children online. Apple’s words could become a common 42 as the current generation of children grows up. Many of them will have had 43 footprints before they could even walk. About 98 percent of mothers and 89 percent of fathers report having 44 photos of their child to Facebook, according to a 2012 US study. Concerns mainly center on two issues. First, 45 . According to Australia’s eSafety Commission, about half of images shared on harmful websites were taken from social media sites. The 46 is simple. Don’t post photos of your child in a state of undress, and avoid images in which their school uniform or location is 47 , says UK children’s charity, the NSPCC. Avoid posting personal information to minimize the risk of identity theft, and ensure that your privacy settings are 48 . You might also consider using a pet name for your child online, making it harder to 49 information. A second issue, as Apple notes, is that of consent. What would your child want to see about themselves online in the future? Videos of them having a mid-temper outburst may be amusing now — but could be used by bullies. Given that employers often use social networking sites to 50 for information about candidates, it is also worth considering how they might 51 such information. Even seemingly innocuous (无伤大雅的) photos may become a source of 52 in the future, depending on your child’s character or your changing relationship with them. This would be their first stay at our mountain house, but our old mattress (床垫) was worn and a new one couldn’t wait. The forecast had promised heavy rain all weekend, and sure enough it had been pouring until that morning. My parents arrived early in the morning. By then, my husband was away on business. Though strong winds were still predicted for the afternoon, after settling them in, I decided to drive to the second-hand market in town to find a replacement mattress. I found a king-size steal — only $50. Two employees carried the mattress out and placed it onto the roof of my car. It hung forward over the window of my tiny car by about two feet. All I needed to do was get it home. All seemed to be going well — until the wind showed its force. With each mile up the mountain, the wind grew wilder, rocking my car back and forth. The mattress felt heavier, pulling at the ropes as if it was trying to break free. The road was too narrow to turn around. I had to keep going. As I rounded the last turn, I was met head-on by the worst rush of wind. My car too light, the mattress too heavy and the wind too strong, I lost control and crashed into a telephone pole. I tried to start the engine. Nothing. Trapped in the damaged car with my phone running out of battery and darkness falling, I felt a wave of panic wash over me. Minutes later, a truck approached. I breathed a sigh of relief. But when I saw a huge man get out of the truck and heard a deep, heavily accented voice, that relief disappeared. “Looks like you’ve got yourself in a spot of trouble, ma’am,” he said. Then he reached into his bag and pulled out a knife. My heart missed a beat. This was it. The crash hadn’t killed me, but now this strange man would. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式作答。 I was so scared that my hands began shaking. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Soon, the huge man drove me and my mattress to my doorstep. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 参考答案: 1——5 ACCAA 【答案】6.C 7.B 【原文】W: This fish is really great. But the attack didn’t happen. With rapid movements, he cut through the ropes holding down the mattress, lifted it onto his shoulder and loaded it onto his truck. I stared at him in shock, with my hands still trembling from the earlier fear. He noticed my unease, paused, and said softly, “I just want to help you get home safely.” Then he walked to the driver’s seat, opened the door, and helped me out. The storm continued, but my panic dissolved as I slid into the truck beside him. Soon, the huge man drove me and my mattress to my doorstep. Before the truck stopped, I saw my parents rushing toward us, their faces filled with worry. As we got off, my mom hurried over to hold my hand, while my dad helped with the mattress. After the mattress was positioned, I expressed my gratitude to the man and offered to give him some money. But he refused, waving at us and leaving. Watching the truck disappear into the night, I realized how quick I’d been to judge a stranger by his appearance and that kindness often comes in unexpected packages. 发生:happen/take place/occur ②.意识到:realize/be aware ③.继续:continue/go on 情绪类 ①.感谢:express my gratitude/show my appreciation/be grateful ②.震惊:shock/astonishment 【点睛】[高分句型1] I stared at him in shock, with my hands still trembling from the earlier fear.
