W: Hello, this is the repair shop. We’re calling to ask when it would be convenient for you to collect your computer.
M: I’m actually on my way to your shop right now.
W: Great. We’ll have it packed and ready for you when you arrive.

M: Look, Catherine. The ocean.
W: It’s not the ocean, John. That’s a lake. Remember when Mom told you about the difference? Well, anyway, you’ll learn about bodies of water in class this spring.
Text 3
M: Hey, Laura, are you going to Gary’s party tonight? I can give you a ride if you want.
W: Yes, thanks, Joe. That’s very kind of you.
M: That’s a deal then.
Text 4
W: What a terrible washing machine! It’s getting worse today. Look! Now it doesn’t work at all. I think I need a new one.
M: Calm down, please. I heard there’s a big sale in Star Mall today.
Text 5
M: I climbed several mountains with my family during the winter holidays. We had a great time. What about you?
W: Well, I spent most of my holiday time learning to swim.
M: Wow, cool.
Text 6
W: I’m broke, Dad. Can I have some money?
M: Amanda, you are 17 years old. You are old enough to get a part-time job.
W: But I’m still a student! I don’t have time to get a part-time job!
M: You spend three hours every night playing computer games and watching TV. If you have time to do that, you have time to earn money.
W: But Dad, I don’t want to work!
M: You’re just being lazy. Getting a part-time job will be a good experience for you.

W: Hello. My name is Mary Smith. I’m here to check in for the 5:40 p.m. flight to London. I have my passport and ticket here.
M: I’m sorry. You’ve arrived too late, Ms. Smith. Check-in for that flight closed 20 minutes ago. There won’t be enough time for you to reach the gate before take-off.
W: Oh, no. I was worried this was going to happen, but my taxi was stuck in a long line on the way here. Are there any other flights today that I can take instead?
M: Yes, we still have seats available on the one that leaves at 10:30 p.m. For a $100 fee, I can update your reservation and issue you another ticket.

W: Good morning, Dr. Smith. I’m a student journalist from a local high school. Can you spare some time for me?
M: OK.
W: Many kids are afraid to see a dentist. How do you let them feel better?
M: I have a great helper. It’s Mia, my dog. Mia can help them feel better.
W: Does it really work?
M: Yes. Mia is very gentle. She plays games with kids to help them calm down. Kids accept the treatment more easily with Mia volunteering to comfort them here. I hear there are also dogs in some schools to help students relax and study well, right?
W: Yeah, but we haven’t got such dogs in our school. And how long has Mia been helping out?
M: I got her about ten months ago, but she didn’t begin to work until six months later. I sent her to a dog school for several months and she got some professional training.
W: Great!

W: Welcome to Education Update. This is Kathy. We have Robert Hall from Mountainside High School with us today. Hello, Mr. Hall. Could you tell us about the service program in your school?
M: Okay. It goes like this. On certain days each month, adults from the neighborhood sit in class with the students and see what’s going on in the school.
W: That’s interesting. What else can they do?
M: They can also take adult courses in the evenings for both fun and serious learning.
W: What about the students? What can they do in the program?
M: Well, they can change places with adults and go working on a farm or in a factory or taking care of the housework.
W: Good. This helps them better understand the lives of their parents and know more about their neighborhood.
M: Yes. Students have a chance to work in hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, and even in government offices.
W: So the school is not only part of the students’ lives, but also part of the neighborhood.
M: That’s exactly what our service program is for.
W: Great. Thank you, Mr. Hall.

W: Good morning, everyone. As we approach August, I’d like to take a moment to talk about our upcoming holiday break. As you all know, the four-week holiday in August is a long-standing tradition here in Spain, so we will be observing it again this year.
From August 1st, our shop will be closed, and all of you will have the opportunity to relax and recharge. I understand that this long break may cause financial concerns, so I want to assure you that you will still receive 75% of your regular pay during the holiday. Additionally, there will be a winter award in cash later this year to help cover any extra expenses you might have during the holiday. We were supposed to open the door on September 1st, but I plan to put it off by one day.
Once we open, I hope each of you will focus on refreshing the shop’s design. The current design is holding us back. We must act quickly to stay competitive. And we’ll introduce a few new collections and work on increasing our visibility in the community to attract more customers.
Thank you all for your hard work. Let’s come back ready to make September a great month!

第一段:I’d first met Sister Esther 10 years earlier when I was her student at Edgewood College. She was more than just a teacher to me. She was like a mentor and a friend. She always had time to listen to my problems and offered valuable advice. She saw potential in me when I was struggling with my studies. Her classes were filled with inspiration and her presence always made me feel safe.
第二段:Sister Esther said, “I have gifts for you and Kristil.” She took out a big bag from the car. There were some books for Kristil which she had carefully selected according to her age. For me, there was a letter of recommendation which she thought might help me with my job hunting. I was deeply moved. This unexpected kindness gave me strength to face the difficulties.

Dolly Parton, an American singer-songwriter who died on August 25, 2026 at the age of 80, will always occupy a space in the global cultural imagination. Here are four of her favorite songs.
Coat of Many Colors
It’s a song about her mother who had made a coat out of second-hand clothes for her. This classic, which was released in 1971, has touched on plenty of country music’s favorite topics — growing up poor, enjoying simple things, appreciating a mother’s love and pride: “Now I know we had no money, but I was rich as I could be in my coat of many colors my momma made for me.”
I Will Always Love You
This song is from her 1974 album. It was written for Porter Wagoner ahead of her departure from The Porter Wagoner Show. (She had been working with Porter since 1967 and left in 1974.) There have been several versions of the song, but it is most known for its rendition (翻唱) by Whitney Houston, who recorded it in 1992 for the soundtrack to The Bodyguard. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks.
The Grass Is Blue
“I’ve had to think up a way to survive,” Parton opens the title track to her 1999 album The Grass Is Blue. She said she wrote the bluegrass ballad (民谣) in 30 minutes, during a lunch break while filming Blue Valley Songbird, a musical drama about a woman who tries to leave her partner.
Blue Smoke
In this song, which was released in 2014, Parton brings listeners into her childhood home in the Blue Ridge Mountains: “Blue Smoke climbing up the mountain. Blue Smoke winding round the bend. Blue Smoke is the name of the heartbreak train that I am riding in.”
21. When did Whitney Houston record I Will Always Love You?
A. In 1967. B. In 1974. C. In 1992. D. In 1999.
22. What is Blue Valley Songbird?
A. A musical play. B. A bluegrass ballad. C. A famous album. D. A country music song.
23. What do the first and the last songs have in common?
A. They celebrate self-respect. B. They focus on hardship in daily life.
C. They are about a mother’s love. D. They are related to Parton’s childhood.
B
In the first week of high school, I felt like a tiny boat lost in a vast ocean. The hallways were crowded with strangers, and everyone seemed to have already found their groups. I missed my old friends terribly and doubted whether I would ever find new ones.
Then came the art class project. We were asked to paint a partner’s portrait (肖像). My partner was Kevin, a quiet boy who rarely spoke in class. I believed it would be an awkward experience. However, as we sat facing each other, something unexpected happened. Without saying much, we started observing each other — the way we held our brushes, the slight nod of our heads, and the occasional smile of focus.
We didn’t need to fill the silence with small talk. Instead, our communication flowed through gestures and expressions. When I mixed a color wrongly, Kevin would point to the right one with his brush. When he got stuck on the shape of my glasses, I changed my position to give him a clearer angle. By the end of the class, we had two imperfect but honest portraits.
That was the beginning of our friendship. Over the next few weeks, we discovered that Kevin’s silence did not mean he was unfriendly; he simply valued words and used them carefully. We started sharing lunch, walking to the library together, and even laughing at the same jokes. I realized that friendship doesn’t always start with a loud “Hello.” Sometimes, it whispers through a shared glance or a helping hand.
Now, as I look back, I understand that high school is not about fitting in immediately. It’s about finding those who see you, even when you’re not speaking.
24. How did the author feel in the first week of high school?
A. She was glad to meet new classmates. B. She was sure to make new friends.
C. She was angry at the art project. D. She felt worried and out of place.
25. Which of the following best describes Kevin according to the passage?
A. Shy but thoughtful. B. Talkative and humorous.
C. Proud and cold-hearted. D. Strict but helpful.
26. What can we learn from the text?
A. Art is the best way to make friends. B. Friendship can grow without many words.
C. Students should have more art classes. D. Making friends is easy in high school.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How to paint a good portrait. B. Difficulties of high school life.
C. A real personal story. D. The importance of art lessons.
C
Heat waves are becoming more common. Besides direct health risks, high heat also brings indirect influences. Many studies show that high temperatures do harm to our brain’s ability to think, and this will cause us to make poor choices.
A research team carried out a study on college students during a heat wave. The researchers wanted to learn how high temperatures would influence people’s thinking. For twelve days in July, students took two tests every day. One test was about simple number-calculating work. The other tested their ability to control their feelings and focus attention.
Some students lived in buildings with air-conditioning (AC), while others did not. The AC group stayed in cool rooms, while the non-AC group lived in much hotter places. The result was clear: students without AC got fewer correct answers and acted more slowly in the experiments.
Such studies have disadvantages, for example, not many people took part in the experiments. However, more experiments support the idea. When people are placed in hot environments, their memory, attention and problem-solving skills become worse. So high heat may truly impair our thinking ability.
The effect of heat on our thinking comes mainly from our body’s physical state. The old saying “in the heat of the moment” usually means bad choices caused by strong feelings. Now we find it is also true in a real-life sense. As heat waves appear more often, we should be careful when we make important decisions.
We’d better avoid important choices on hot days. Take time to think twice, and ask for others’ advice before making up our mind. If we have to make them, cool ourselves down first.
28. What is the main finding of the study on college students?
A. AC improves school points. B. Heat hurts mental performance.
C. Tests improve self-control. D. Heat harms physical condition.
29. What does the underlined word “impair” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Improve. B. Weaken. C. Show. D. Require.
30. Why does the writer mention the old saying in paragraph 5?
A. To show heat may cause unwise decisions. B. To explain the meaning of strong feelings.
C. To introduce a real-life experience. D. To offer tips for hot-day activities.
31. What will the author most probably talk about next?
A. Heat influences on health. B. Different views on the study.
C. More ways to keep cool. D. Choices to improve memory.
D
Children are more creative when they learn in natural surroundings, according to new research from Curtin University. Primary school students in Australia and England were put to the test to see if writing poetry in a natural outdoor setting produced more creative outcomes than writing in a classroom, and the answer was yes.
Dr Paul Gardner and Sonja Kuzich from Curtin’s School of Education ran relative trials with 10-year-old students in both countries and the results, recently published in the Cambridge Journal of Education, gave a big thumbs-up to the positive influence of natural settings. “We found that students who had direct contact with nature by immersing (沉浸) themselves in a bush or forest environment were much more descriptive and vivid in the language they used than the classroom-based writers who ‘imagined’ being in nature through photos,” Dr Gardner said.
In total, 97 students took part in the study, divided into four classrooms, including two based at an English primary school and two from a primary school in Western Australia. In each country one class visited a natural bush or forest before writing a poem based on what they saw, smelt and felt. The other class viewed a pile of images of the same bush or forest environment .
Ms Kuzich said the difference in creative language used between the classes was obvious, with twice as many UK forest students using figurative (比喻的) language compared with the class-based students. In Australia that figure rose to more than four times when comparing the poetry of the forest-based students with those who remained at school.
The researchers say further studies of larger groups are now recommended to a gain greater understanding of the influence of natural spaces and “green learning” in schools.
32. Why were the students placed outdoors in nature according to the first two paragraphs?
A. To get more outdoor exercise. B. To experience nature in depth.
C. To understand poems about nature better. D. To prove nature’s effect on creativity.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The specific steps of the experiment. B. New findings about students’ writing.
C. The steps of training the children. D. The purpose of performing the test.
34. What can we infer about the result of the study?
A. Students indoors are not good at poetry.
B. Students in Australia prefer to study poetry.
C. Students are more creative in a natural environment.
D. Students in the UK and Australia have different writing skill preferences.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Outdoor Exercise. B. A Study on Outdoor Learning.
C. How to Write a Good Poem. D. Nature: A Boost for Creativity.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Just like humans, a dog’s intelligence can be increased through education and training. Well-trained dogs are smarter, better behaved and more fun. In reality, seeming “smart” often simply reflects “training”, so you’ll need to invest time in training and communicating with your dog. 36
Regular training.
Short, frequent training sessions throughout your dog’s life bring excellent results. Training need not be long — what’s important is that it’s regular. 37 It’s a time when your dog is most eager to cooperate. This simple daily habit strengthens willingness to follow rules and sharpens your pet’s mental focus over time.
Use hand signals.
Dogs by nature enjoy reacting to visual things, and seem to have been used to understanding human visual communication. Pointing is a great example. As you point to a toy, your dog will pick it up. 38 Back up your voice orders with hand signals and you will find your dog reacts quickly and actively.
39
It’s possible for dogs to understand a range of vocabulary similar to that of a young child. You can teach your dog to relate words to behaviors, activities and items by using positive rewards. It’s not surprising that most dogs clearly understand words like “treat”, “toy” and “walk”, because whenever they hear those words they are rewarded with food, a game or an outing.
Make your dog work for food.
Since eating is a strong motivation, turn part of your dog’s daily meal into playful challenges. Try hiding food, using puzzle toys, or setting up simple treasure hunts. 40 Best of all, this turns an ordinary meal into an exciting game, strengthening your bond while giving your dog a healthy, happy outlet for their natural instincts.
A. Relate words to rewards.
B. Practice communication regularly.
C. Practise a few simple orders right before mealtime.
D. The following tips will help make your dog clever.
E. The activities will bring in some unexpected bad results.
F. Dogs are one of the few animals that understand the gesture.
G. These will keep them encouraged, entertained and their brains active.

第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a Friday evening in December, two weeks before Christmas, I lost my job. I hadn’t seen it coming. I was excited for the weekend, when my daughter, Kristil, then 13, and I planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail: “We’re sorry but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank.
I wasn’t just a single parent; I was the only parent. The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed each price tag. “Is everything OK?” Kristil asked. “You seem worried.” “I got some bad news yesterday,” I told her. “I lost my job!” “Oh no,” Kristil said. “Well, I have $100 from Grandma I can give you.” “Absolutely not,” I told her. Monday morning, I dropped Kristil at school and set off on my moneymaking pursuits. I headed to the pawnshop (当铺) with a ring set in 14-karat gold that my mother had given me a decade earlier.
“Best I can do is $70,” the owner said.
“The stones are worthless; we’re only interested in the gold.”
Next was the antiques store. I sold six Precious Moments figurines for $150 and ended the day $220 richer.
Over the next week, I furiously applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. I felt as if the world was closing in on me.
On a weekend afternoon, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I watched as she went in, surrounded by all the nice things we couldn’t afford. I drove home defeated.
Back at home, I glanced out of the window. It had been snowing on and off all morning. I noticed a slim woman with short white hair struggling to open her car door against the wind. As she got out, I realized it was my old professor Esther Heffernan. I hadn’t seen her since we’d met for lunch three months ago.

As we approach August, i'd like to take a moment to talk about our upcoming holiday break. As you all know, the four year holiday in August is a long standing tradition here in spain, so we'll be observing IT again this year. From August the first, our shop will be closed and all of you will have the opportunity to relax and recharge. I understand that this long break may cause financial concerns, so I want to assure you that you will still receive seventy five percent of your regular pay during the holiday. Additionally, there will be a winter award in cash later this year to help cover any extra expenses you might have during the holiday. We were supposed to open the door on september the first, but I planned to put IT off by one day. Once we open, I hope each of you will focus on refreshing the sharp design. The current design is holding us back. We must act quickly to stay competitive, and we will introduce a few new collections and work on increasing our visibility in the community to attract more customers. Thank you. Offer your hard work.
