第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Wildlife vacations are popular because they let us see animals in nature. They help us relax, escape from daily life, and learn about the world. With so many choices, it can be hard to decide where to go. Here are four wonderful wildlife experiences. All of these trips should be taken responsibly so that animals and local people benefit.
Gorilla (大猩猩) tracking in Rwanda and Uganda
Seeing gorillas in the wild is often called a life-changing experience. These huge animals are surprisingly gentle, and they sometimes behave in ways that seem almost human. You can visit mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Responsible travelers keep a safe distance and do not disturb the gorillas.
A Big Five safari (观兽旅行) in Africa
Africa offers safaris for every taste and budget. You can take a classic jeep safari in East Africa and follow the Great Migration. Or you can go on a self-drive vacation in South Africa and Namibia. In Botswana and Zambia, brave travelers can even walk in the bush with an expert guide. The “Big Five” are the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and black rhino. Other animals, such as hippos, hyenas and zebras, are also exciting to see.
Polar bears in the Arctic
Polar bears are a symbol of the Arctic, but their habitat is growing smaller because of global warming. Therefore, bear-watching trips must be run carefully. Good tours operate under strict rules to reduce environmental impact. On an Arctic cruise (游轮), you can watch polar bears with wildlife experts, researchers and conservationists. This helps protect these amazing animals for the future.
The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands are one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth. Charles Darwin began developing his theory of evolution (进化) there. Many birds and animals live only on these islands, and they are not afraid of humans. This makes the Galapagos a unique wildlife experience. Visitors should always follow park rules and keep a respectful distance.
1. Which of the following offers self-drive wildlife vacations?
A. The Arctic region. B. Rwanda and Uganda.
C. South Africa and Namibia. D. The Galapagos Islands.
2. What is a feature of the animals on the Galapagos Islands?
A. They feed mainly on sea plants. B. They show no fear of visitors.
C. They often move to other areas. D. They behave like humans at times.
3. What is the author’s main advice?
A. Observe wild animals up close. B. Support local wildlife groups.
C. Learn wildlife knowledge in advance. D. Take responsible wildlife trips.

Silverton, Oregon, is a small rural farming community south of Portland. It lies at the base of Silver Falls State Park, famous for ten waterfalls. It is a friendly, culturally diverse town, and I worked there as a teacher of English Language Learners for girls whose first language was Russian or Spanish.
One day, I asked the girls what careers interested them. Almost all gave the same answers: becoming a wife or mother, or working as a hairdresser. I was puzzled, for these bright girls, full of potential, could only see such limited life paths. They needed role models and exposure to the working world to make informed decisions, yet I wondered how I could offer effective help.
I searched the Internet and found a state gender-equality grant (补助金). I applied, and we were selected. With two qualified assistants, I began planning. We needed successful working women. I wanted to arrange field trips to their workplaces, but conservative parents would not allow their daughters to travel far from home.
Refusing to give up, I called and invited presenters to our school. To my surprise, many agreed to come. The girls listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions.
The year passed quickly. After the final presenter left, I asked the same question. This time, the answers were completely different: they wanted to become social workers, accountants, teachers, bookkeepers, nurses, and managers. The results went beyond our expectations.
We felt disappointed when the grant period ended, even though our project had achieved remarkable results and gained positive feedback from both parents and the school district. Soon after, I received a call from an educational research program in Portland. “We have heard about your successful project and would like to fund it for the coming year.”
Thanks to their new financial help, our project budget was set to double. The program only asked us to use some of its curriculum (课程) and allow it to study pre- and post-program outcomes. We agreed. The second year was even more rewarding because we now had a network of resources.
Looking back, I feel proud that I helped change the girls’ career goals. It was an honor to serve as their role model and guide them. I am proud that I could make a real difference, empower them to succeed, and open their eyes to future career possibilities.
4. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Strict and demanding. B. Talkative and humorous.
C. Determined and devoted. D. Confident and wealthy.
5. How did the girls change after the first-year program?
A. They got jobs as social workers and nurses. B. They became interested in more careers.
C. They grew more independent in their studies. D. They took many field trips to nearby workplaces.
6. How did the author feel after receiving the call from the research program in Portland?
A. Tired. B. Disappointed. C. Worried. D. Delighted.
7. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To share a rewarding experience. B. To advertise a gender-equality grant.
C. To introduce Silverton’s local workers. D. To encourage visits to Silver Falls State Park.

When a dog tilts (歪着) its head and looks at its owner, it is a familiar scene. Owners have long speculated about what is happening in the dog’s mind. Now science is getting closer to an answer.
Dr. Alex Crow, a veterinarian, says there is no single explanation. First, head tilting helps dogs figure out where a sound is coming from. Dogs have excellent hearing and can hear sounds humans cannot. Tilting may help them locate strange or unfamiliar noises more accurately. The gesture may also indicate concentration. If a dog tilts its head while you are talking, it may be trying to understand your words or what you want.
Some dogs tilt more often than others. According to Dr. Crow, dogs with flat faces may tilt less because their shorter muzzles (口鼻部) do not block their view as much. For other dogs, the action can help them get a clearer view.
Scientists have also tested the behavior. For years, they had three main ideas: head tilting might improve hearing, help dogs see around their muzzle, or show attention and thinking. But little research had been done before 2021. A team from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest filmed dogs in the Genius Dog Challenge. They compared 33 ordinary pets with seven “gifted word learners”, all border collies (边牧) trained to remember many toy names.
The results were surprising. When asked to fetch toys by name, the gifted collies tilted their heads in 43 percent of attempts. Ordinary dogs did so only 2 percent of the time. Each dog also tilted to the same side, which may reflect how its brain works.
Researchers of the 2021 study believe head tilting often appears when dogs are processing something meaningful, such as recalling a toy’s name or understanding a familiar word. It may show that a dog is really thinking. Usually, head tilting is harmless and cute. But if a dog keeps tilting its head for no clear reason, owners should consult a veterinarian. It may be a sign of a health problem.
8. What does the underlined word “speculated” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Complained. B. Forgotten. C. Decided. D. Guessed.
9. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Risks caused by frequent head tilting in dogs.
B. Possible reasons why dogs tilt their heads.
C. Ways to train dogs to recognize human words.
D. Differences between flat-faced dogs and other dogs.
10. What did the study find about the “gifted word learners”?
A. They tilted their heads far more often. B. They seldom recalled a toy’s name.
C. They always tilted their heads to the left. D. They liked competing in online challenges.
11. What can we conclude from the 2021 study?
A. Head tilting is related to dogs’ mental processing.
B. Border collies are the cleverest among all dogs.
C. Ordinary pets refuse to fetch toys for their owners.
D. Most dogs tilt their heads when hearing loud noises.

Finding love is a big business. Dating apps are increasingly using AI to match users. Some services claim AI can find a perfect partner from a photo or by studying what people say and do. But can AI really help people find love?
As a relationship scientist, I see both promise and risk. Dating apps often say their algorithms (算法) are based on science. However, relationship scientists still do not know what makes two particular people compatible (契合的). We know some general factors that predict liking, such as attractiveness, similarity, familiarity, and reciprocity (互惠性). But we cannot yet predict with certainty whether two people will hit it off before they meet.
If science cannot explain compatibility, what is AI matching based on? One app uses similarity and reciprocity in personality. Research suggests similarity may predict attraction before people meet. Yet after even a brief interaction, similarity matters much less. Studies have also found little evidence that couples are happier when partners are more similar.
Still, AI may learn from users’ behavior, not just their words. It may detect complex patterns that humans cannot see. Perhaps it can do the same for love. If compatibility depends on complex patterns we have not found, AI may help. But if humans are too complex, AI may not bring us closer to predicting love.
People often list ideal characteristics before speed dating, but ignore them when they meet someone. In my work, users reject others for reasons like “having the same name as my brother” or “a bad haircut.” This raises a question: Does AI have the right kind of data? Researchers disagree about whether love can be predicted. Some believe an algorithm can predict it. Others think compatibility develops as two people interact and cannot be known in advance.
AI can be a useful tool, but we should use it with caution. It is trained on beliefs about compatibility, which may be wrong. If we let AI do all the work, we may miss someone unexpectedly right for us. Dating can be a time to explore. Be open to different people, while avoiding serious dealbreakers. You may be surprised by whom you connect with.
12. What can be learned about the similarity between partners?
A. It ensures couples’ long-term happiness. B. It is ignored by most dating app algorithms.
C. It matters less after real-life communication. D. It shapes who people choose in speed dating.
13. What does the author want to show by mentioning “having the same name as my brother”?
A. Unexpected factors may affect dating choices.
B. AI collects accurate data for users’ dating needs.
C. Dating apps use names to calculate compatibility.
D. People should list the qualities of their ideal partners.
14. What does the author advise daters to do?
A. Reject all modern dating app tools. B. Rely on AI to find their perfect match.
C. Use AI wisely and meet different people. D. Accept partners with similar personalities.
15. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Science can predict successful relationships. B. AI matchmaking still faces great challenges.
C. Speed dating provides chances for romance. D. Compatibility can be calculated with big data.

Dining at restaurants can be a tasty experience, yet it can also be a pricey one. ____16____. Luckily, personal finance and nutrition experts share some simple strategies that make it possible to eat out without spending a fortune.
Think about why you are dining out
Is your goal to try a popular new restaurant? ____17____? Determining why you are eating out helps you choose a restaurant that meets your needs. You might get just as much enjoyment from a less expensive pizza place as from a nicer restaurant. Putting time into thinking about what you want to get out of the meal can guide your decisions and prevent overspending.
Give yourself a restaurant budget
It is worth looking back at how much you have been spending on food outside your home. This gives you a starting point to create a dining-out budget. ____18____. This way, you can truly spend it joyfully, without worrying about whether you can buy groceries.
Check the menu in advance
____19____. You can plan your meal ahead of time and avoid making a last-minute decision at the table. This small bit of research also helps you eat more healthily. When we arrive at a restaurant really hungry, we tend to desire carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and quick fuel, which can cloud our brains and stop us from making the healthiest choice.
Fill the to-go box early
Another tip acts as a double-duty money-saver. You should put half of your meal in a to-go box right away. Restaurant portions can be excessive, and many people eat more than they planned. Immediately packing away half of your meal helps you avoid overeating and prevents food waste. ____20____.
A. Or are you just going out to socialize
B. But dining out can bring unexpected costs
C. However, many of us still choose to dine out
D. What dishes should you avoid ordering in restaurants
E. It is important to separate this budget from your grocery money
F. It also means you have lunch for the next day at no additional cost
G. Take a few minutes to read the restaurant’s menu before you sit down

A Little Slower
Every morning, Ritvik, an eight-year-old boy, walked half a step ahead of his grandfather Dinesh, whom he called Dada. Before breakfast, they walked together from their small house to the park. Ritvik liked the park. He liked the wide path, the cool grass, and the birds. But he did not like how slowly Dada walked. Every few minutes, he had to stop and wait.
Today, Dada stopped at the corner near the old peepal tree. Mr. Verma, who sold vegetables from his blue cart, waved. “Hello, Mr. Dinesh!” he called. Dada stopped completely and waved back. “How is your knee, Verma?” “Much better, thanks to your oil,” Mr. Verma said with a smile. For a moment, he looked ten years younger. Ritvik sighed and kicked a small stone. He thought, “Dada, we will never reach the park.”
A little farther on, Mrs. Kulkarni was watering her tulsi plant. She looked up. “Mr. Dinesh! Do you remember that my grandson’s exam is today?” “How could I forget, Mrs. Kulkarni? Tell him good luck from me,” said Dada. Her smile grew wider. Ritvik counted in his head. Two stops already. The sun was climbing higher. He began to walk faster, hoping Dada would follow. But he did not.
Then they passed the tea stand, where young Rohan was wiping the counter. He looked tired. Dada stopped again. “Rohan, how did your interview go yesterday?” Rohan’s whole face changed. “I got the job! I wanted to tell you myself.” Dada patted his shoulder. “I knew you would. You always work hard.” Rohan’s tired look was gone. He handed them two cups of tea. Ritvik took a drink. It was warm and sweet, but he was still impatient.
By the fourth stop, near the gate, Auntie Meera was struggling with a heavy bag of groceries. Dada took it from her without being asked and carried it all the way to her door. “You didn’t have to, Dinesh,” she said. “What are neighbours for?” Dada replied. Ritvik watched Auntie Meera’s shoulders relax.
When they finally reached the park, the sun was already high, and Ritvik’s shoes were dusty from all the extra steps.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答.
Ritvik looked back at the road and said, “Dada, we wasted so much time on the way.” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Dada,” Ritvik said, “can we walk this way again tomorrow?” _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. A

Dear Tom,
How is everything going? Last weekend, I returned to my grandparents’ home in the countryside and experienced farm work for the first time. In the morning, I helped pick apples and tomatoes in the orchard. Though the sun was burning, I learned how to tell ripe fruits from green ones. At noon, we enjoyed a delicious meal made from what we had picked. Tired as I was, I felt truly happy and proud.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
【答案】Ritvik looked back at the road and said, “Dada, we wasted so much time on the way.” Dada smiled and shook his head. “Wasted? We greeted Mr. Verma, whose knee has recovered a lot with the oil I gave him. We cheered Rohan up on his big day. We helped Auntie Meera carry her bag.” He tapped Ritvik's shoulder gently. “The road gave us chances to care for others. That is never a waste, little one.” Ritvik looked back again. This time, he saw not lost minutes, but every warm stop along the way.
“Dada,” Ritvik said, “can we walk this way again tomorrow?” Dada’s eyes shone like the morning sun. “Of course, Ritvik. The park will always be there, but so will the people who need us.” The next morning, they walked the same road. Rittvik no longer counted the stops. He carried Auntie Meera’s vegetables, waved to Rohan, and listened to Dada’s stories. When they finally reached the park, his heart felt light. He understood at last: slowing down was not falling behind. It was how love moved.
