My teacher was one of the people I most wanted to see whenever I visited New York City. Usually I’d call her as soon as I was settled, and it was thrilling to hear her voice and then to arrange a meeting time. But in 2024, when I turned 75 and she was 96, I put off making the call. Each time I thought about phoning her, I feared that when I said my name, she would say, “Who?”
I first met Lore Segal in 1975, when I took her writing class at Columbia University. Back then, all I knew about her was that she’d recently lost her husband. I hadn’t known that when she was a little girl, her family went through a series of ups and downs and that at 10 years old, she was even transported alone all the way to England, where she drifted between different temporary homes.
Small and self-confident, Lore had a pale face and curly hair. She was particular, her whole manner changing when someone expressed something pompous (言辞浮夸的) or emotional. She said firmly that no one ever again needed to describe someone drinking coffee or getting into and out of a car. She also stated that for a reader to remember a particular detail, you had to write it one and a half times, a rule both impossible to follow and true. When she leaned toward a text, I saw the obvious pleasure she took in sharing a passage and felt the pleasure welling up in me.
Lore held student conferences at her apartment near school. When it was my turn, we sat beside each other and she went page by page through my novel-in-progress manuscript. No one had ever before read my work so closely or seen anything special in me. And now came this extraordinary moment: my teacher was reading my words and laughing.
4. Why did the author delay calling Lore in 2024?
A. Lore refused to meet him. B. He was fully occupied with work.
C. He lost interest in meeting her. D. He worried she might forget him.
5. What do we know about Lore’s childhood?
A. She travelled a lot alone. B. She weathered bitter blows.
C. She lived in a fixed house. D. She taught writing in England.
6. What can we infer about Lore’s attitude towards writing?
A. She thought short articles work best. B. She hated all daily scene descriptions.
C. She ignored students’ writing faults. D. She prized plain and meaningful writing.
7. How did the author feel during one-on-one talks?
A. Inspired and valued. B. Shy and awkward.
C. Calm and indifferent. D. Nervous and uneasy.
D 5. B 6. D 7. A

根据第一段“But in 2024, when I turned 75 and she was 96, I put off making the call. Each time I thought about phoning her, I feared that when I said my name, she would say, “Who?” (但在2024年,我75岁,她96岁时,我推迟了打电话。每次我想到要给她打电话,我就担心当我说出我的名字时,她会说:“谁?”)”可知,作者推迟打电话是因为他担心老师可能已经忘记了他。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“I hadn’t known that when she was a little girl, her family went through a series of ups and downs and that at 10 years old, she was even transported alone all the way to England, where she drifted between different temporary homes. (我当时不知道,当她还是个小女孩的时候,她的家庭经历了一系列的起伏,10岁时,她甚至独自一人被送到英国,在不同的临时住所之间漂泊。)”可知,Lore的童年经历了家庭变故和颠沛流离,即她经历了痛苦的打击。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“She said firmly that no one ever again needed to describe someone drinking coffee or getting into and out of a car. She also stated that for a reader to remember a particular detail, you had to write it one and a half times, a rule both impossible to follow and true. (她坚定地说,再也不需要有人描述某人喝咖啡或上下车了。她还说,为了让读者记住一个特定的细节,你必须把它写上一遍半,这是一个既不可能遵循又正确的规则。)”可知,Lore反对浮夸空洞的描写,强调写作应精炼而有意义。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“No one had ever before read my work so closely or seen anything special in me. And now came this extraordinary moment: my teacher was reading my words and laughing. (从来没有人如此仔细地读过我的作品,也没有人看出我有什么特别之处。现在,这个非凡的时刻到来了:我的老师读着我的文字,笑了起来。)”可知,一对一交流时作者感受到被重视,备受鼓舞。

A popular musician posts a music video or an athlete shares a workout, and suddenly they seem like part of our lives. People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. Psychology Today defines this phenomenon as a parasocial relationship (准社会关系) — a one-sided connection that exists only in the fan’s mind. First identified in 1956 to describe television viewers feeling closely connected to on-screen figures, this behavior has existed for ages.
Today, social platforms deepen this illusion by offering constant, seemingly real updates on the lives of public figures. However, what audiences actually see is a carefully selected version of reality, edited for perfection rather than truth. Despite this created closeness, young people frequently view celebrities as standards for success. This influence often unconsciously shapes everything from their self-image to their long-term career goals.
These relationships are not always harmful. For some, especially those who feel left out in society, seeing public figures with similar backgrounds can offer a sense of belonging. These connections can inspire confidence and make people feel less alone. In that sense, they can serve a real and meaningful purpose, offering comfort.
The danger arises when the line between admiration and imagination disappears. The relationship becomes unhealthy when fans act as if they truly know a celebrity. They might take planned posts as personal messages and develop unrealistic expectations. Furthermore, these feelings now extend to artificial intelligence (AI). Chatbots acting like real friends can produce deep emotional responses, making it harder to tell real human connection from AI.
Admiration itself is fine. Music, sports and entertainment have long connected communities, but that influence needs clear boundaries. Without them, simply watching a video is easily mistaken for close friendship, and carefully chosen content is mistaken for true connection. Parasocial relationships should remain what they are: distant and one-sided. In a digital age where everything is designed to feel personal, we must remember that it is not.
8. Why did the author mention the musician and the athlete in the first paragraph?
A. To reveal the market value of stars’ posts.
B. To criticize celebrities’ too-much-sharing.
C. To show an imagined familiarity with stars.
D. To illustrate progressive fan-star connection.
9. How do digital bonds built on celebrity posts affect the youth?
A. They shape youths’ personal values. B. They make the youth perfectionists.
C. They ease beauty standards for youths. D. They develop the youth’s social skills.
10. Which of the following is an example of the “danger” in paragraph 4?
A. Flooding friends’ chats with celebrity updates.
B. Using AI chatbots to solve academic challenges.
C. Taking idols’ livestream as private video calls.
D. Tracking a star’s posts to monitor their traces.
11. What may be the best title for the text?
A. Music and Sports: The Uniting Strength B. Posts and Responses: The Healing Circle
C. Blessing or Disaster: The Booming Internet D. Stardom or Friendship: The Mistaken Closeness
C 9. A 10. C 11. D
根据第一段“A popular musician posts a music video or an athlete shares a workout, and suddenly they seem like part of our lives. People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. (一位受欢迎的音乐家发布音乐视频或运动员分享健身日常,突然间他们似乎成了我们生活的一部分。人们喜欢并分享这些帖子,随着时间的推移,崇拜开始感觉像友谊——人们喜欢认为他们了解名人。)”可知,作者提到音乐家和运动员是为了展示人们与名人之间一种想象出来的熟悉感。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Despite this created closeness, young people frequently view celebrities as standards for success. This influence often unconsciously shapes everything from their self-image to their long-term career goals. (尽管这种被刻意营造出来的亲近感,年轻人经常将名人视为成功的标准。这种影响常常在不知不觉中塑造了一切,从他们的自我形象到他们的长期职业目标。)”可知,建立在名人帖子上的数字纽带塑造了年轻人的个人价值观。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“The danger arises when the line between admiration and imagination disappears. The relationship becomes unhealthy when fans act as if they truly know a celebrity. They might take planned posts as personal messages and develop unrealistic expectations. (当崇拜和想象之间的界限消失时,危险就出现了。当粉丝表现得好像他们真的了解名人时,这种关系就变得不健康了。他们可能会把计划好的帖子当作私人信息,并产生不切实际的期望。)”可知,“将偶像的直播当作私人视频通话”正是将计划好的内容误认为私人信息、产生不切实际期望的危险例子。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是第一段“People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. (人们喜欢并分享这些帖子,随着时间的推移,崇拜开始感觉像是友谊——人们喜欢认为自己了解名人。)”以及最后一段“Parasocial relationships should remain what they are: distant and one-sided. In a digital age where everything is designed to feel personal, we must remember that it is not. (准社会关系应该保持原样:有距离的和单向的。在一个一切都被设计得让人感觉很私人的数字时代,我们必须记住,事实并非如此。)”可知,文章主要探讨了人们容易将名人的单向展示误认为真实亲密关系的现象,因此最佳标题是“Stardom or Friendship: The Mistaken Closeness (明星光环还是真实友谊:被误解的亲近感)”。
D
Salsa, one of the most popular dance forms, is believed to offer many cognitive and physical benefits, such as improving cardiovascular health and muscle tone. Now a randomised controlled trial suggests it could also reduce depression and anxiety. Researchers at the University of Oxford studied 121 young adults with mild to moderate depression and anxiety who were randomly assigned to a salsa dance programme or a control group.
The study, which was published in Psychological Medicine, found that those who took part in salsa showed a clinically significant greater reduction in depressive symptoms and social anxiety than the control group, as well as larger increases in daily happiness.
Brennan Delattre, the lead author of the research, said: “These findings are noteworthy because, as salsa is physical, social, musical and structured, it asks people to engage with others, but within a clear framework: steps, patterns, and a predictable class routine. For some people, this may make social contact feel more manageable than an unstructured social group setting.” She said the results were not yet strong enough to support prescribing salsa as a stand-alone treatment for depression, but added: “Doctors could consider social-dance classes as an optional well-being or adjunctive intervention.” Further clinical trials would be necessary before making stronger prescribing (开处方) recommendations.
Dr Daniel Hayes, a leading researcher in social prescribing, welcomed Delattre’s findings. He said: “Mental health care shouldn’t begin and end in the consulting room. While not every young person needs or wants the same activity, this study adds to growing evidence that helping people take part in enjoyable, social activities in their communities can support mental health.” Dr Keir Philip, a clinical lecturer for the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, said: “The world has changed dramatically — 50 years ago, social dancing would not have been considered an ‘intervention’, it would have been a standard Saturday night. Perhaps this study is actually treating a dance deficiency (缺乏) that we didn’t know we have. This study does not suggest that salsa is a cure for depression, rather a useful tool to add to existing options.”
12. How does the author introduce the topic of salsa in the first paragraph?
A. By quoting an expert’s opinion.
B. By defining a concept.
C. By giving examples of its benefits.
D. By providing statistics about the study.
13. What makes social contact feel more manageable for some people in salsa classes?
A. The deep involvement.
B. The fixed routine.
C. The rhythmic music.
D. The well-structured framework.
14. What does the underlined word “adjunctive” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Independent. B. Additional.
C. Innovative. D. Medical.
15. What can be inferred from Philip’s words about social dancing?
A. Social dancing is now regarded as a medical cure for depression.
B. Modern people have more time for social dancing than before.
C. Social dancing is no longer a natural part of modern life.
D. All mental problems can be eased effectively by social dancing.
C 13. D 14. B 15. C
根据第一段中的“Salsa, one of the most popular dance forms, is believed to offer many cognitive and physical benefits, such as improving cardiovascular health and muscle tone. Now a randomised controlled trial suggests it could also reduce depression and anxiety.(萨尔萨舞是最受欢迎的舞蹈形式之一,人们认为它对认知和身体有多方面益处,比如改善心血管健康、增强肌肉张力。如今一项随机对照试验表明,它还可以缓解抑郁与焦虑情绪。)”可知,作者通过列举萨尔萨舞的好处引出话题。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“These findings are noteworthy because, as salsa is physical, social, musical and structured, it asks people to engage with others, but within a clear framework: steps, patterns, and a predictable class routine. For some people, this may make social contact feel more manageable than an unstructured social group setting.(这些发现值得关注,因为萨尔萨舞兼具运动性、社交性、音乐性与结构性,它要求人们和他人互动,但在清晰的框架内:舞步、模式以及可预判的课堂流程。对一些人来说,这会让社交比无组织的社交场合更容易适应。)”可知,清晰完善的框架让人们更容易适应萨尔萨课堂中的社交。故选D项。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“She said the results were not yet strong enough to support prescribing salsa as a stand-alone treatment for depression, but added: “Doctors could consider social-dance classes as an optional well-being or adjunctive intervention.”(她说该研究结果还不足以支持将萨尔萨舞作为抑郁症的独立疗法,但补充道:医生可以考虑把社交舞蹈课作为可选的健康方式或者adjunctive干预手段。)”
根据第四段中的“Dr Keir Philip, a clinical lecturer for the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, said: “The world has changed dramatically — 50 years ago, social dancing would not have been considered an ‘intervention’, it would have been a standard Saturday night. Perhaps this study is actually treating a dance deficiency (缺乏) that we didn’t know we have. This study does not suggest that salsa is a cure for depression, rather a useful tool to add to existing options.”(伦敦帝国理工学院国家心肺研究所的临床讲师基尔·菲利普博士说:“世界已经发生了巨大变化——五十年前,交谊舞并不会被看作一种‘干预手段’,它只是周六晚上很平常的活动。或许这项研究实际上是在弥补一种我们未曾意识到的舞蹈缺失。该研究并不说明萨尔萨舞能够治愈抑郁症,它只是现有治疗方案之外一个有用的方式。”)”可知,社交舞蹈已经不再是现代生活里自然而然的一部分。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(★)
Have you ever found yourself lost in a book, turning pages without really processing the words? It happens to the best of us. ____16____ For them, reading isn’t just about understanding the text; it’s about thinking critically, making connections, and engaging with what they’re reading. This is where questioning techniques come into play in reading instruction.
At its core, questioning techniques are strategies used to inspire readers to think critically about what they are reading. ____17____ Just like how exercise strengthens muscles, asking questions while reading strengthens comprehension skills. It pushes readers to not only understand the story but to analyze it, evaluate it, and sometimes even challenge it.
____18____ The types of questions asked can vary depending on the level of engagement required. There are easy literal questions that ask for information directly from the text and also inferential and evaluative questions that require readers to read between the lines. There are even predictive questions that encourage readers to make predictions about what will happen next. ____19____ But together, they create a rich, engaging reading experience that goes beyond just decoding words on a page.
You might be wondering, “Why does this matter?” Can’t students just read and understand on their own? Well, the truth is, reading is more than just recognizing words. ____20____ In a world overloaded with information, teaching students how to think critically about what they read is more important than ever. Questioning techniques in reading instruction provide students with the tools they need to become thoughtful, engaged, and reflective readers.
A. Each type serves a different purpose.
B. It’s about making sense of those words.
C. Of course, all questions aren’t created equal.
D. They can totally transform the reading experience.
E. But imagine students who are just learning to read.
F. Think of questioning techniques as a mental workout for the brain.
G. Be aware that these techniques can be tailored based on reading levels.
E 17. F 18. C 19. A 20. B

It was a raw, rain-soaked late-autumn afternoon. Heavy storm clouds hung low over the campus, sharp wind whistling through tree branches. Shivering, her thin coat barely keeping out the chill, Lila huddled (蜷缩) by the school gate. Cold rain lashed the ground, soaking her cuffs (袖口) and seeping into the hems of her trousers. Caught completely off-guard by the downpour, she had not brought an umbrella. Her parents were tied up with work hundreds of miles away and could not drive over to pick her up. Staring out at the grey, endless sheets of rain, she braced herself to dash home through the miserable weather.
She was about to bolt into (猛冲) the pouring rain when Mrs. Henderson, her elderly next-door neighbor who lived alone, pulled up alongside the curb. “Hurry on in, sweetie, or you’ll get frozen through,” she called through the rolled-down window, her tone warm and reassuring. Though they had exchanged little more than casual hellos in the past, Lila was desperate for shelter. Hesitant yet freezing, she climbed into the car’s cozy warmth.
On the short drive home, Mrs. Henderson chatted gently. Learning Lila often stayed home on her own, she listened with quiet sympathy. When they pulled up outside Lila’s apartment block, the rain showed no sign of letting up. Before Lila stepped out, Mrs. Henderson pressed a neatly folded umbrella into her hands. “Keep it. You’ll need it for days like this,” she smiled. Overwhelmed by this unexpected act of kindness, Lila thanked her repeatedly and hurried up the stairs.
Days drifted by. The umbrella sat on her desk, a constant reminder of that rainy afternoon. Deeply grateful but short of pocket money for fancy gifts, Lila struggled to think of a proper way to repay the favor. One quiet weekend morning, when she passed Mrs. Henderson’s front yard, she noticed how run-down the garden was. Its once-lovely flower beds were overgrown with weeds, dead branches scattered over the lawn. Suddenly a practical idea occurred to her.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Gloves in hand, Lila headed towards Mrs. Henderson’s house. A wave of gratitude swept over her, her mind wandering back to that cold rainy afternoon. Though a little nervous, she walked up and knocked softly. “Dear Mrs. Henderson, I hope to tidy your garden to thank you for what you did for me,” Lila explained sincerely. Touched by her thoughtfulness, the elderly lady readily gave her permission and then went out for grocery shopping. Immediately, Lila threw herself into the work. She pulled out rampant weeds, piled up dry branches and watered the wilted flowers carefully, sweat rolling down her cheeks. So absorbed was she that she totally lost track of time.
Stepping into the yard hours later, Mrs. Henderson froze, amazed by what met her eyes. With stubborn weeds removed and messy branches stacked in order, the once run-down garden regained its vitality. “What a lovely surprise! I can hardly believe my eyes,” Mrs. Henderson exclaimed. “I have never forgotten the umbrella you gave me on that rainy day,” Lila said with a gentle smile. Deeply moved by the girl’s quiet effort, Mrs. Henderson held her dirt-stained hands firmly. It slowly dawned on them that true gratitude lies never in fancy expensive gifts, but in wholehearted devotion and genuine deeds.

A. Independent. B. Additional.

15. What can be inferred from Philip’s words about social dancing?
