Cultural treasures are like windows to the past. They help us understand how people lived hundreds of years ago. But many of these old objects are very fragile. They can be easily harmed by weather, time, or even small accidents.

Thanks to modern technology, we have powerful new ways to protect our history. One key method is 3D scanning (扫描). With special cameras, it records every shape and color of an object, creating a detailed 3D model.    ▲    A famous statue there lost its head a century ago. Scientists studied old photos to create a 3D model of the head. As a result, a full-size copy was printed and put back where it was for visitors to see. Today, more than 50 museums in China are using similar technology. Some are printing copies of old statues so that school students can hold them and learn from them safely. Other museums are using the same idea to repair broken pieces of ancient walls and pottery.

Technology is also changing how we visit museums. With Virtual Reality (VR), people can now “walk” inside ancient places like the Dunhuang caves from their own home. This makes history feel much closer and more real. The number of online museum visitors has grown by about 60% in the past two years.

Of course, using new technology is not cheap. Some people also ask if a copy can be as meaningful as the real thing. However, losing these treasures to time is a much bigger problem. As one museum director said, “We must use every tool we have to save our past for the future.”page number 2
