When I was young, Grandpa often took me fishing by the river near our house. Every time we went there, he would tell me about a large fish named Walter. According to him, Walter was the smartest fish in the river. Many people tried to catch him, but he could always slip away (溜走) in the end.
One morning, while I was fishing with Grandpa, my fishing rod suddenly shook. “It’s Walter!” I cried excitedly. My heart beat fast as I tried to hold the rod tight. However, just when I thought I was about to catch him, he slipped away. I felt as if I had lost something valuable. Seeing I was upset, Grandpa placed his hand on my shoulder and said, “The big ones are never easy to catch. You need patience and a little luck.”
That night, I could hardly sleep. The next morning, I got up early and returned to the river alone. I remembered every word Grandpa had taught me and waited beside the old tree where Walter liked to hide. After what felt like forever, my rod shook again. This time, after a lot of effort, I finally pulled Walter close enough to hold him.
Walter was more beautiful than I imagined, shining silver in the early sunlight. Yet when I lifted him from the water, his bright colour slowly got darker, and his eyes seemed strangely sad. At that moment, I suddenly understood something: ________ So I gently put Walter back into the river and let him go, but just before he swam off, I thought I saw him smile.
Later, when I told Grandpa about it, he only smiled and said knowingly, “Yeah, that’s Walter.” Even now, years later, that morning remains one of my warmest memories—not because I finally caught Walter, but because I learnt to respect life.

Fuse beads (拼豆) are also called Perler beads or iron beads. They are popular plastic art materials. Both children and adults love them. Each small bead has a tiny hole in the center. These beads come in different sizes and bright colors. With them, people can make fine designs. The designs can be turned into useful or pretty things, like key rings or fridge stickers.
There are four main types of fuse beads for different needs. Tiny beads (2.6mm) are good for fine work. Middle beads (5mm) are the standard size. They are good for most general crafts (工艺). Big beads (10mm) are perfect for young kids and simple projects. Special beads shine like glass and can light up in the dark. They make your work stand out in daily objects or handmade gifts.
It is simple and fun to make crafts with fuse beads. First, choose a ready-made pattern or design your own. Then put the beads carefully on a board. Line them up to match your design. Next, cover the beads with cooking paper. Use an iron to heat them. Here you need help from adults to stay safe. Finally, let the design cool down before taking it off the board.
Fuse beads are not only fun. They are also good for learning. They help improve hand-eye control and handwork skills. But kids under 3 shouldn’t use them. The small beads may make it hard for them to breathe. Always follow safety rules when using the iron too. There are so many colors and designs. Fuse beads give everyone a chance to show their creativity.

If you live in Changchun, you can often hear this these days: you had better not wear yellow clothes outside on autumn afternoons. Small bugs are jumping on your arms, flying around street trees, or sticking to your hair. Whatever you think of them, these small flying bugs are common in early autumn in northern China. Every year, lots of them fill the air on warm autumn days.
Why do so many bugs fly around? Just to make trouble for people? Here is a little story from nature. Think about these small bugs in late summer. When the weather is hot, most of them have no wings. They stay on plants, eat plant juice and have lots of baby bugs quickly. When days become shorter and cool weather comes, something changes. They grow wings and can fly.
Are you getting the idea? Their flying is not for fun. This natural fact brings us useful scientific information. It helps their group live through the cold winter. Just like many other insects, they don’t want to make people upset. They fly to look for the right trees, meet others and lay eggs that can live through cold winter days.
Many of us feel unhappy about them, but these bugs won’t hurt people. They do not bite us. Yellow colors easily draw their eyes, so bright-yellow clothes will attract more of them. Therefore, try to wear dark-colored clothes when you go out.
Each season has its special small living things. These little ones show us nature’s rules. Year after year, we can see this small scene in autumn. It shows how small insects try their best to keep alive.

One day, my little brother got hurt while playing outside. A sharp stone cut his foot badly. The doctor took care of his foot in the hospital. Then some kind classmates walked home with him.
During the walk, they met my father. My brother showed his hurt foot to his father. He hoped to get some comfort and warmth from him. But things did not go as he had hoped. My father just said a few words. Then he walked away alone.
My brother was disappointed and angry. He thought his father didn’t care about his pain at all. Seeing he was sad, one of his classmates tried to make him feel better. He told my brother that most fathers are not good at showing their love. Although they seldom show their feelings, they truly love their children. The classmate even guessed that my father would look back at them when he turned the corner.
The kids all stayed there and waited. My father kept walking and looked calm and cold. To everyone’s surprise, the moment he reached the corner, he quietly turned back and looked at my brother and his classmates for a short time. Then he was gone. The small but warm action only took a second. But my brother felt deeply moved and his eyes were full of tears.
After hearing my brother’s story, I truly understand that a father’s love is usually silent but strong.
