Protect the natural world
Good morning, everyone! Today I am very happy to be here to give a talk about protecting the natural world.
The natural world belongs to all of us. I think everybody should take on the responsibility of environmental protection. There are many environmental problems nowadays. For example, people cut down trees for production. Rubbish is often thrown into rivers and lakes, and many of them are polluted. Luckily, there are many things we can do to protect the natural world. We should sort the rubbish into different groups so that it can be reused and recycled better. Besides, we should learn to save energy, such as not leaving taps running all the time.
Let’s take action to save our world together!
That’s all. Thanks for your listening.

Do you sometimes wonder why some friends feel as close as family? Genetics (遗传学) might have a hand in choosing your closest friends.
According to a US study with 1,932 people, friends have a kinship coefficient (亲缘系数) that is 0. 0014higher than that of strangers! The kinship coefficient is an easy way to see how genetically related (相关的) two people are-the higher the number, the closer the relationship.
Don’t look down on this number. The kinship coefficient between parents and children is about 0. 25. For first cousins, it is about 0. 0625, while for fourth cousins, it is around only 0. 001. This means you might share more genes (基因) with your best friend than with some distant (遥远的) family members.
Why are people with a high level of kinship coefficient more likely to become friends? A study in Science showed that close friends usually have similar body smells. Scientists collected sweat samples (汗液样本) from20 pairs of friends. They all became close in a short time. Using an e-nose and human volunteers to study the smells, they found that friends’ body odours (体味) were more alike than those of strangers. So, next time you hug your friends, you might notice that they smell a bit like you!

When the children first went to live at the white house, they talked about Father a lot and were always asking Mother some questions about him. But as time passed, their questions seemed to make Mother unhappy, so they stopped asking them. But they never forgot him.
Bobbie thought about Father often. She knew her mother was unhappy, and she worried a lot about that. And why was Father away for so long? Was there something that Mother wasn’t telling them?
The answer came on the day she went to the station to fetch the magazines. They were old magazines that people left on trains or in the waiting room. Perks said the children could have them to read, and one day Bobbie went to fetch them!
“I’ll just put some newspapers round the magazines to keep them together,” said Perks.
The magazines were heavy, and Bobbie stopped to rest on the way home. She sat on the grass and dropped them beside her. As she did this, she looked at an old newspaper and read some of the words on the page... and it was like a terrible dream.
She never remembered how she got home. But she went to her room and locked the door. Then she took the newspaper off the magazines and looked at it again. The words seemed to jump at her: FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR A SPY!
And the name of the “spy” was the name of her father.
Bobbie was very quiet at tea-time.
“Is anything wrong?” Mother asked her.
“I’m all right,” said Bobbie.
But after tea, Mother went up to Bobbie’s room. “What’s the matter?” She wanted to know.
For an answer, Bobbie took the newspaper from under her bed and showed it to her mother.
“Oh, Bobbie!” cried Mother. “You don’t believe it, do you? You don’t believe Daddy is a spy?”
“No!” said Bobbie.
“He’s good and honest and he’s done nothing wrong,” said Mother. “We have to remember that.”

The 2026 hit movie Dear You has moved millions of viewers with its simple but powerful story. The film tells the story of emigrants (侨民) from Guangdong’s Chaoshan area. Though the dialogue is in the local dialect (方言), the film’s box office takings are close to 2 billion.
The movie takes place in the 1940s. At its center is Ye Shurou, who was left to raise three children alone after her husband Zheng Musheng traveled to Southeast Asia to make a living. A main thread (线) running through the story is qiaopi (侨批)—letters sent by emigrants back to their families. The letters brought Ye Shurou money and news about her husband, so day after day she could wait for him, full of hope. Though Zheng wrote letters year after year, he never came back. Many years later, the couple’s grandson Xiaowei traveled to Thailand in search of Zheng. He found a surprising fact that his grandfather had died there many years before. He also learned that Zheng had once saved a hotel owner’s life in a fire, and the owner’s daughter, Xie Nanzhi, kept writing letters to Zheng’s family for another eighteen years, carefully signing Zheng’s name every time. At the end of the movie, Ye Shurou visited Xie Nanzhi and thanked her sincerely for her quiet kindness in those qiaopi letters across thousands of miles.
Before phones and the internet, Chinese people living abroad stayed connected to their loved ones through qiaopi—letters that often included money. The word combines (结合) qiao (“overseas Chinese”) and pi (“letter”). These letters were usually short. They started with polite greetings and soon talked about practical news. Yet within just a few lines, they carried deep emotions. Some qiaopi letters travelled thousands of kilometers by ship and passed through many hands before reaching a village. The practice was added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register (《世界记忆遗产名录》) in 2013.
In history, qiaopi also played an important role in supporting China during difficult times. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (抗日战争), overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia sent money and supplies; some even returned to China to join the fight, with qiaopi serving as a channel (渠道) of support.
The film is deeply rooted in Chaoshan culture. It reflects a strong sense of duty and resilience (坚韧) while also showing the strength of women in the area. The stories in Dear You may seem to belong to the past, but they still speak to people today.

British scientist Jane Goodall, known for her great studies of chimpanzees (黑猩猩), died on Oct1, 2025 at the age of 91.
Jane Goodall was born on April 3, 1934, in London, England. When she was a little girl, she loved animals very much. Once, she even stayed in a hen house for hours just to watch how a hen laid an egg. Her parents were happy to see her love for nature and gave her a toy chimpanzee named Jubilee. This toy made Jane dream of working with animals one day.
When Jane grew up, she went to Africa to study chimpanzees. At first, the chimpanzees were scared of her. They ran away when they saw her. But Jane didn’t give up. She sat quietly in the forest every day, watching them from far away. Slowly, the chimpanzees came close to her. She even gave them names like David and Goliath.
Jane found many amazing things about chimpanzees. She saw that they used sticks to get insects to eat. Before that, people thought only humans could use tools. She also saw that chimpanzees loved their families. Mothers took good care of their babies, and chimpanzees played together like children.
Later, Jane wanted to tell the world about chimpanzees. She wrote books and gave talks. She wanted people to know that chimpanzees are smart and need our help. Many forests where chimpanzees lived were cut down. Jane started groups to protect these forests and chimpanzees.
Even when Jane was over 90 years old, she still worked hard for animals. She traveled around the world, telling kids to love nature. She said, “Every individual (个体) matters. Every individual has a role to play.” Jane Goodall’s love for animals teaches us to care for our planet.

根据第一段“Do you sometimes wonder why some friends feel as close as family? Genetics (遗传学) might have a hand in choosing your closest friends.” By asking and answering a question的描述。
根据第二段“The kinship coefficient is an easy way to see how genetically related (相关的) two people are”可知,亲缘系数用于展示两个人之间基因关系的紧密程度。
根据第三段“This means you might share more genes (基因) with your best friend than with some distant (遥远的) family members.”
根据第四段“close friends usually have similar body smells.”及“friends’ body odours (体味) were more alike than those of strangers”可知,人们成为亲密朋友可能是因为他们的体味是相似的。

— Adapted from The Railway Children
13.What kind of questions may make the mother feel unhappy?
A.What are you doing, Mum? B.Where is our father, Mum?
C.Why can’t we play for a while, Mum? D.How can we go home from here?
14.Why was Father away for so long?
A.Because he had a quarrel with his family. B.Because he had to go far away to work.
C.Because he worked on the train. D.Because he was in prison for spying.
15.What did Mother go to Bobbie’s room for?
A.To give Bobbie some magazines to read. B.To tell Bobbie why she locked the door.
C.To ask Bobbie what was wrong with her. D.To help Bobbie find answers about homework.
16.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Bobbie hated her mother after reading the newspaper.
B.Perks wrote the news about Father in the old newspaper.
C.Mother kept the truth from the children in order not to hurt them.
D.Bobbie believed that her father was a spy after reading the newspaper.
第一段提到:“they talked about Father a lot and were always asking Mother some questions about him. But as time passed, their questions seemed to make Mother unhappy...”,说明让母亲不开心的问题是关于父亲的。 只有B项“Where is our father, Mum?”(爸爸在哪里,妈妈?)
文章后半部分Bobbie在报纸上看到的标题是:“FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR A SPY!”,且名字是她父亲的。
第九段母亲问:“Is anything wrong?”,之后母亲上楼去Bobbie的房间问:“What’s the matter?”。 (To ask Bobbie what was wrong with her)。
第一段提到“ But as time passed, their questions seemed to make Mother unhappy”母亲之前对父亲的事避而不谈,末段提到“He’s good and honest and he’s done nothing wrong”,在看到报纸后极力维护父亲的形象,暗示她为了保护孩子不受伤害或维持希望而隐瞒了父亲入狱的真相。

第二段指出“so day after day she could wait for him, full of hope”以及“He found a surprising fact that his grandfather had died there many years before…At the end of the movie, Ye Shurou visited Xie Nanzhi and thanked her for her quiet kindness”。

28.A.gone B.dead C.lost D.alive
29.A.and B.but C.so D.for
30.A.great B.better C.worse D.best
21.A 22.D 23.B 24.C 25.A 26.D 27.A 28.B 29.B 30.B
根据后文“I planted them in our backyard.”
根据后文“The lower branches were becoming bare”以及“save it”可知,这棵树的状况很差,开始枯死,用die。
cut off切断、cut up切碎、cut out剪下,都不符合砍掉树木的语境。
and表并列、so表结果、for表原因,逻辑不通。
and连接并列的比较级,用better与more beautiful并列。

A.Our best friend might be a distant family member.
B.The kinship coefficient between two friends is 0. 001.
C.Best friends have a higher kinship coefficient than first cousins.
D.Best friends may share more genetic similarities than distant relatives.
12.According to the passage, how may people become close friends?
A.They like the smell of each other’s body. B.They grow at a similar pace.
