They have a big yard with carrots, tomatoes and five geese. One of the geese is very special. Grandpa calls her Lucky. Lucky is not like the other geese. She is white with a little grey on her head, and she thinks she is a dog! When Grandpa walks in the yard, Lucky walks behind him. When a stranger (陌生人) comes to the gate, she shouts loudly. Grandma says Lucky is the best “guard” in the village. Last summer, I tried to make friends with Lucky. On the first day, she ran after me and I ran into the house. Everyone laughed. Grandpa said, “Don’t be afraid. Give her a carrot and say hello to her every morning.” So I did. On the fourth day, Lucky took the carrot from my hand. On the seventh day, she walked behind me like a little friend. Now when I call my grandparents, Lucky always “talks” on the phone too. Grandpa says she misses me. I miss her too. Friends can come in all shapes and sizes — even with feathers (羽毛)! 19. What is special about Lucky? A. She is all grey. B. She acts like a dog. C. She can count. D. She is the biggest goose. 20. How did the writer make friends with Lucky? A. By running after her. B. By taking her to school. C. By giving her carrots and greeting her every day. D. By drawing pictures of her. 21. How did the writer probably feel on the first day? A. Afraid. B. Proud. C. Excited. D. Bored. 22. What does the last sentence of the story mean? A. Only animals can be our friends. B. Big friends are better than small ones. C. Feathers are very important to geese. D. Our friends can be very different from us. C Different Ways to Say Hello How do you greet your teacher in the morning? In many Chinese schools, students stand up and say, “Good morning, teacher!” But around the world, people say hello in different ways. In the UK, students don’t usually say “Good morning, teacher.” They use the teacher’s last name, like “Good morning, Mr Smith” or “Good morning, Ms Miller.” Calling a teacher just “Teacher” sounds a little strange there. In Japan, people often bow when they meet. They bend (弯曲) the top part of their bodies forward. A small bow is for friends, and a deeper bow shows more respect (尊敬), for example, to a teacher or an older person. In Thailand, people put their hands together in front of their chests and say “Sawasdee”. The higher the hands are, the more respect it shows. Different places, different ways. But in all these countries, a friendly greeting is a good start to the day. 23. How do students in the UK usually greet their teachers? A. By bowing to them. B. By saying “Good morning, teacher.” C. By shaking hands with them. D. By saying “Good morning” with the teacher’s last name. 24. What does the underlined word “bow” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. 握手 B. 鞠躬 C. 挥手 D. 拥抱 25. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text? A. A deeper bow in Japan shows more respect. B. People in Thailand put their hands on their heads. C. UK students call their teachers “Teacher”. D. People in all countries say hello in the same way. 26. How is the text organized (组织)? A. By time order. B. By giving examples from different countries. C. By telling a story. D. By comparing two schools. D Where Do Last Names Come From? Do you know the meaning of your last name? Many English last names have interesting stories behind them. Long ago, most people in England had only one name, like John or Mary. As villages got bigger, there were too many Johns and Marys! People needed a way to tell them apart (区分). So they started to add a second name. Some second names came from jobs. A man who made things with metal (金属) was often called “Smith”. A miller made flour (面粉), and a baker made bread. So John Miller and Tom Baker were easy to find in a village. Other names came from places. Mary Wood may have lived near a wood, and Peter Hill may have lived on a hill. Some names came from fathers. “Johnson” means “the son of John”, and “Peterson” means “the son of Peter”. In English, the family name comes after the first name. That’s why it is called the “last name”. In China, it’s different — the family name comes first. So next time you write your full name in English, think about the story it tells! 27. Why did people in England start to use a second name long ago? A. To make their names longer. B. To show their families were rich. C. To tell people with the same first name apart. D. To make friends with others. 28. A man called “Tom Baker” long ago most probably ________. A. made bread B. lived near a wood C. was the son of Tom D. made things with metal 29. What does the name “Peterson” mean? A. A man who lives with Peter. B. The son of Peter. C. Peter’s friend. D. A man from Peter’s village. 30. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the text? A. To teach readers how to spell names. B. To show Chinese names are better. C. To ask readers to change their names. D. To explain where some English last names came from. 第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面材料,从文后所给的A~E五个选项中选择正确的选项(其中一项是多余选项),将其序号填入第31~34题,并回答第35题。 How to Make Friends at a New School Starting at a new school can be hard.
