For over a decade, the Penrod and Jolley families from American Fork have been running a hot chocolate and cookie stand that donates to Primary Children’s Hospital. The tradition has become a neighborhood favorite.
The stand began with young Jefferson Penrod, eager to make a difference.
“When I was in the third grade,my teacher,Mr Durrant, gave everyone a $2 bill to do something good.He called it the $2 experiment,” Jefferson explained.“In my little third-grade mind,I thought,‘I’ll buy some cups with this $2 and have my parents make hot chocolate. Then,I’ll make a hot chocolate stand and use the money I’ve made to buy gifts for kids at Primary Children’s.’ I was born premature(早产的) and had to visit the hospital a lot.”
As long-time family friends, the Penrods decided to host the stand in memory of Hannah Jolley.“In 2016,my little sister passed away at Primary Children’s,” said Emma Jolley.“That sparked(引起) my family to join because they decided to do it in her honor.Since then,my family has always been a part of it.”
With the money earned, the families bought toys for the children at the hospital.“The first year,we made $100,which was cool,” Jefferson said.“The next year,we thought,‘Let’s do it again.’”
Each year since then, the stand has grown.Hundreds come to support the cause and gather as a community.“It’s not really a fundraiser. It’s more of an event and a tradition for our neighborhood. It’s something that brings people together. We are doing it because it shows how people can come together for something greater,” Jefferson said.
The Penrod and Jolley families hope to continue the tradition and pass it along to whoever is willing to help.

Art is everywhere.Any public space has been carefully designed by an artistic mind to be both functional and beautiful. Why,then,is art still so widely considered to be "the easy subject" at school, insignificant to wider society,a waste of time and effort?
Art can connect culture with commercial products in a way that not many other things can;art generates money and holds significant emotional and cultural value within communities. When people attend a concert, they are paying for music, sure, maybe even hotel rooms, meals, and transport, but they also gain an incredible experience,a unique atmosphere and a memory that will go through the rest of their lives.People don't just want material things anymore, they want to experience life﹣the arts are a perfect cross over between culture and commerce.
Furthermore, the arts can bring communities together, reducing loneliness and making people feel safer.Social bonds are created among individuals when they share their arts experiences through reflection and discussion, and their expression of common values through artworks in honour of events significant to a nation's experience.
The arts clearly have a pretty positive impact on physical and psychological health. It is found that people who frequent cultural places or participate in artistic events are more likely to gain good health compared to those who do not;more engagement with the arts is linked to a higher level of people's wellbeing. The Royal Society of Public Health discovered that music and art, when used in hospitals, help to improve the conditions of patients by reducing stress, anxiety and blood pressure.
Children who are involved with the arts make greater achievements in their education:those engaged with drama have greater literary ability while others taking part in musical practice exhibit greater skills in math and languages.Kids with preference for the arts have a greater chance of finding employment in the future.Participating in the arts is essential for child development;encouraging children to express themselves in constructive ways could help to form healthy emotional responses in later life.
Vital to human life, art is celebrated and used by nations across the world for various purposes.Life without art would be boring and dead still, for art is a part of what makes us human.

D.They tend to be healthier physically and mentally.
30.How does kids' engagement with the arts benefit them?

Earth, our home,is the third planet from the sun. While scientists continue to hunt for life beyond Earth, our home planet remains the only place for human beings to live.On it,everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of lived out their lives. That’s home. That’s us.
Our Earth is a book written by Jane Calame. It’s also a helpful guide to caring for our planet. Our planet is unique for many reasons, but its fresh water and oxygen(氧气) are two key things.Water covers about 71% of Earth’s surface, with most of that water lying in our planet’s oceans.About a fifth of the air is oxygen, produced by plants. But water and air pollution is becoming more and more serious. The state of the natural world is alarming, making it a must for us to be knowledgeable about it.But the future of Earth doesn’t have to be a negative one. This amazing children’s book has some cheerful pictures as it explains the planet we live on.
By providing ideas for ways in which we can all look after Earth in a workable and child-friendly manner,Our Earth is the perfect book for educating environmentalists or any member of the next generation. The delightful(令人愉快的) pictures and easy-to-understand language make the underlying message in this book simple, and children aged eight or above will enjoy reading it.
Whether you choose to walk and ride your bike to school,or you’re sorting(整理) out your rubbish,or live a greener life with a good habit of little things,Our Earth teaches the reader that we can all play a part in shaping the future of the planet,no matter how small the action or how young the person is.
