For 15 years, I read self-help books, took courses and downloaded apps, hoping to become a better person. But none of it worked. My journey with self-help began in my mid-20s, during a difficult period, when I bought my first self-help book. It promised to solve whatever was wrong with me. I finished it in days and soon bought hundreds more, seeking advice on how to live more happily and build confidence.
Like many other girls, I often felt insecure when I was growing up. That made me more likely to believe the promises in self-improvement books. I thought their writers could be the teachers I had never met. My dependence grew stronger after losing someone close to me. I spent much of my time reading about how to deal with sadness “properly” instead of doing what I really needed: sitting with my feelings, letting myself cry and accepting the loss.
My interest in self-help had become harmful, and I knew I had to change. Slowly, I realized that those suggestions did not help me at all. Instead, they made me feel worse. I opened up to a person very dear to me. Through that conversation, I came to understand that I kept trying to change things I could not control. Instead of focusing on who I hoped to be, I needed to let go of self-help materials and learn to accept who I really was. Spending time alone, going for walks and observing my thoughts without trying to stop or change them helped me a lot.
Since I stopped depending on self-help, I have found that focusing only on self-improvement can make us forget to accept ourselves. It sets conditions for happiness, as if I could be loved only when I met certain standards. It also prevents me from fully accepting myself with all my shortcomings. After a long time, I finally came to believe that I could accept myself as I was while still trying to grow.
4. Why did the author buy her first self-help book?
A. To deal with her difficulties. B. To follow her teachers’ advice.
C. To use apps and courses well. D. To forget the loss of a loved one.
5. What does the underlined words “sitting with my feelings” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Refusing her feelings. B. Accepting her real emotions.
C. Analyzing her sadness. D. Writing her feelings down.
6. What directly led the author to change according to paragraph 3?
A. The comfort of walking alone. B. The dream of a better self.
C. The failure of self-help advice. D. The talk with a loved one.
7. What does the author want to convey in the text?
A. Self-acceptance does not hold back growth.
B. Sadness should be dealt with by reading more.
C. Self-help books are a waste of time and money.
D. Happiness depends on meeting certain standards.
C
When we think about what makes humans different, a good sense of humor often comes to mind first. Laughter and playful jokes were once thought to belong only to humans. Yet recent research shows that animals, especially great apes, may also act in ways that look like humor.
A study led by primatologist Isabelle Laumer at the Max Planck Institute has produced surprising results. “We saw young apes quietly come close on purpose, touch adult apes, and wait hopefully for a response,” Laumer says. “This is not simple play. It fits all the rules of purposeful teasing.” Videos totalling over 75 hours show this action is similar to how children play jokes: it repeats, comes unexpectedly, and aims to get a reaction. Researchers found the apes would even stop to watch the adult’s response, just like a child waiting to see if others laugh at their joke.
Humor-like actions are not only seen in apes. Many dog owners find their pets make soft, noisy breaths while playing. Some scientists believe these sounds are dogs’ way of laughing. A 2025 study played these sounds for shelter dogs and found they felt less stressed. Besides, dolphins make happy sounds in playful fights, elephants call excitedly at play, and some parrots tease other animals. For example, they use whistles to puzzle dogs just for fun.
Why do animals show such actions? For humans, laughter builds social connections and eases stress. Scientists believe playful teasing among apes or dogs’ “laughing” sounds work similarly, helping them get on well and strengthen relationships. Some researchers think these actions developed to help animals deal with complex social order and reduce conflicts. Still, Laumer says more studies are needed, for it is hard to tell whether animals really have a sense of humor.
We may never know if animals understand a joke, but their actions suggest humor developed a very long time ago. As Laumer puts it, “The boundary between human laughter and animal laughter is not as clear as we used to believe.”
8. How do young apes tease adults according to Laumer’s study?
A. By staying close and watching quietly.
B. By copying the jokes of human children.
C. By repeating their play until adults react.
D. By touching them and expecting a response.
9. What might make the shelter dogs less stressed in the 2025 study?
A. The joyful signals they heard.
B. The nice sounds they made themselves.
C. The fun games they took part in.
D. The playful fights among other animals.
10. What is the main function of animals’ humor-like behavior?
A. Winning complex conflicts. B. Getting on well with humans.
C. Strengthening group bonds. D. Easing stress caused by playing games.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Learning to Joke in the Wild B. Laughter: Humans’ Special Gift
C. Apes: The Funniest Animals D. Animal Humor: Older Than We Think
D
The world is suffering from widespread loneliness. This seems strange. We have so many new ways to keep in touch with those we love. Even if we live far apart, we can still see them on screens. Yet why do we feel lonelier instead?
The reason is simple: our ways of connecting fail to meet what our minds and hearts truly need. Social media has changed how we build friendships. As a result, many young people feel nervous during face-to-face talks, fearing arguments may break out and worrying about how they come across. Gradually, more and more young people feel at ease only when they communicate through electronic devices.
Our brains produce a chemical called “oxytocin”. It brings us joy and draws us close to family, friends and loved ones. However, we cannot get this feeling from screens, especially social media. When loneliness hits, we turn more to social media. This only makes the problem worse. That explains why loneliness has become so common. We are trying to build close ties with tools that are not fit for the job. Two things are needed to produce oxytocin: eye contact and physical touch. These two things are missing in online communication. So the best way is to stay with real people. Touch their hands and look into their eyes. Our brains need and long for this. That’s how our brains have evolved.
This naturally brings up a question: Should we give up social media entirely? Not really. Do you use social media to figure out where you’re going to meet your friends and what they’re up to? That is fine, and it does not take much time. You do not need to spend six hours on Facebook for that. What you need is to set aside time to share your true thoughts with loved ones and meet them face to face regularly.
12. Why are many young people nervous about face-to-face talks?
A. They fear being judged by others. B. They want to avoid all conflicts.
C. They enjoy the online world more. D. They care too much about appearance.
13. Why does the author mention “oxytocin” in paragraph 3?
A. To explain brain evolution. B. To warn of social media’s harm.
C. To stress real human contact. D. To advise against online chats.
14. How should we use social media according to the author?
A. Stop using it completely. B. Make proper use of it.
C. Set a strict time limit on it. D. Trust it for true communication.
15. Which of the following would the author most probably agree with?
A. Writing heartfelt letters to faraway friends.
B. Having an honest talk with a friend at his home.
C. Video-calling parents weekly while living abroad.
D. Posting updates to stay connected with classmates.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
For students facing the pressure of final-year study, happiness may seem a luxury you cannot afford at this important time. ____16____ It is a sense of steady progress and inner calm built in a demanding environment.
Why, then, should you put happiness first? When stress is common, actively protecting it is important. Long-term worry and tiredness weaken your thinking and can even lower your school performance. Research shows that happier people enjoy better health, a stronger ability to recover, and more satisfying relationships. ____17____
To achieve this, start by planning your daily rhythm on purpose. ____18____They can be short walks, calm breathing, or a hobby you enjoy. These acts are not wasted time; they are planned breaks that stop mental tiredness and keep you focused. For example, a ten-minute walk after 90 minutes of study can clear your mind and improve your efficiency in the next session.
____19____ Academic goals are important, but judging your value only by test scores is a weak basis. Instead, connect your daily effort with wider personal growth, such as problem-solving skills, and you will feel a greater sense of accomplishment. This change from a grades-only view to a focus on process turns the journey into a source of satisfaction.
In fact, keeping your own rhythm in senior year is wise self-management. It means protecting your mental space through balanced planning and rethinking the purpose of your effort. ____20____ Then, you are empowered to perform at your best when it matters most.
A. Self-worth also matters.
B. Grades decide your value.
C. Study should take up all your spare time.
D. However, happiness is not the absence of stress.
E. This means planning not only study time but also breaks.
F. Thus, investing in happiness can give you energy in all parts of your life.
G. By doing so, you’ll gain both academic knowledge and lasting happiness.

The summer I turned ten, my parents announced that our family would take a trip to China. Hardly could I hold back my excitement — until then, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City had lived only in the pages of my books, and now I was about to step right into history.
The long-awaited day finally arrived. Standing in central Beijing, I looked up at the Forbidden City — far more breathtaking than in any photo. Golden roofs shone brightly in the sun, fine carvings told quiet stories of emperors long gone, and wide courtyards made me feel as if I had walked into a fairy-tale world. A new surprise waited at every turn: a dragon statue, a marble staircase, a secret garden. I took photo after photo, eager to keep every detail forever. My parents smiled as I pulled them from one place to another, asking to take yet another picture.
What impressed me most were its colours. The royal yellow roofs against deep red walls looked far brighter than I had imagined. Even the stone paths seemed to carry the marks of hundreds of years of footsteps. I ran my fingers along a carved marble railing, wondering how many people had touched the same spot over the past six centuries.
The place was crowded with visitors talking in different languages, all showing the same surprise as I did. Some pointed at the ancient buildings, some took photos, and others just stood quietly to enjoy the view. A shared sense of wonder spread through the crowd, and everyone could feel the special charm of this old place.
As afternoon went by, we moved along with the crowd towards the exit. There were so many people that I felt nervous. I was small for my age, and I knew my father’s hand well — his old watch and his silver ring. So I held my father’s hand firmly, fearing that I might get lost in the moving crowd. The noise, heat and excitement blurred everything — until I looked down at the big hand in my grasp. It had a different watch and a ring of a different colour.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右。
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A cold fear came over me.

Suddenly, I saw a familiar face just a few steps away.

B
【答案】4. A 5. B 6. D 7. A
【解析】
【导语】作者曾长期依赖自助读物,后来意识到应接纳真实的自己,明白接纳自我和自我成长并不冲突。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“My journey with self-help began in my mid-20s, during a difficult period, when I bought my first self-help book. It promised to solve whatever was wrong with me. I finished it in days and soon bought hundreds more, seeking advice on how to live more happily and build confidence.(我的自助成长之路始于二十五六岁那段艰难的日子,当时我买下了第一本励志书。这本书承诺能解决我身上所有的问题。我几天就读完了,之后又陆续买了几百本,想要从中找寻建议,学会活得更快乐、建立自信。)”可知,作者买第一本自助书是为了应对自己的困境。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“My dependence grew stronger after losing someone close to me. I spent much of my time reading about how to deal with sadness “properly” instead of doing what I really needed: sitting with my feelings, letting myself cry and accepting the loss.(在失去一位至亲之后,我对这类书籍的依赖愈发强烈。我花大量时间阅读该如何“恰当”地处理悲伤,却没有去做我真正需要做的事:sitting with my feelings,允许自己哭泣,接受这份失去。)”中“letting myself cry and accepting the loss” 可知,这里指妥善地处理自己的情绪,所以猜测“sitting with my feelings”指接纳自己真实的情绪。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“I opened up to a person very dear to me. Through that conversation, I came to understand that I kept trying to change things I could not control.(我向一位十分亲近的人敞开心扉。通过那次交谈,我明白了自己一直在努力改变那些我无法掌控的事情。)”可知,和亲近之人的谈话直接促使作者做出改变。

【答案】8. D 9. A 10. C 11. D
【解析】
【导语】本文介绍多种动物有类似幽默的行为,这类行为利于维系社交,说明幽默的出现可能远比人们以往所想的更早。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段““We saw young apes quietly come close on purpose, touch adult apes, and wait hopefully for a response,” Laumer says. “This is not simple play. It fits all the rules of purposeful teasing.”(劳默说:“我们观察到幼猿会刻意悄悄靠近成年猿,触碰对方,然后满怀期待地等着回应。这并不是单纯的玩耍,它完全符合有意逗弄行为的所有特征。”)”可知,幼年类人猿通过触碰成年猿并且期待回应的方式来戏弄它们。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Many dog owners find their pets make soft, noisy breaths while playing. Some scientists believe these sounds are dogs’ way of laughing. A 2025 study played these sounds for shelter dogs and found they felt less stressed.(许多狗主人发现自家宠物玩耍时会发出轻柔、带有声响的呼吸声。一些科学家认为,这类声音是狗狗的笑声。2025年的一项研究给收容所里的狗狗播放了这种声音,结果发现它们的压力有所降低。)”可知,狗狗听到这类代表愉悦的声音后压力变小。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Scientists believe playful teasing among apes or dogs’ “laughing” sounds work similarly, helping them get on well and strengthen relationships.(科学家认为类人猿之间带有玩笑意味的戏弄或是狗狗的“笑声”有着类似作用,帮助它们和睦相处并巩固关系。)”可知,动物类似幽默行为的主要作用是加强群体间的联系。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文特别是根据最后一段“We may never know if animals understand a joke, but their actions suggest humor developed a very long time ago.(我们或许永远无法知晓动物是否懂玩笑,但它们的行为表明幽默在很久之前就已经演化出来了。)”可知,文章介绍多种动物存在类似幽默的行为,说明幽默的起源比我们预想的更早,所以D项“Animal Humor: Older Than We Think(动物也懂幽默:其起源远比我们想象的更早)”符合语境。
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. B

B. Grades decide your value.

Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】例文
Dear Chris,
In my eyes, AI is a double-edged sword. Admittedly, it spots spelling and grammar errors and delivers feedback immediately, saving us much time on basic revisions. Nevertheless, what it fails to grasp is the emotion and personal style behind our words — the very soul of a speech, which only human teachers can truly appreciate.
Therefore, I might suggest a combination. AI could handle the basic polishing, while you guide us on how to express our true feelings and develop a personal style. This way we can make full use of AI without losing our own voice.
Yours,
Li Hua

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
例文
A cold fear came over me. My heart pounded violently when I realized I was holding a stranger’s hand. I looked up at the man — he had kind eyes and a gentle smile. “Are you lost?” he asked, crouching down to my height. I nodded, fighting back tears. Without hesitation, he asked a nearby guard for help, describing my parents and keeping me calm. Though he was a stranger, his patience and warmth made the terrifying moment feel a little safer. Then I heard Dad’s voice calling my name.
Suddenly, I saw a familiar face just a few steps away. He came rushing toward me through the crowd, his face pale with worry. The second he saw me, his shoulders relaxed, and he pulled me into a tight hug. He thanked the kind stranger again and again, his voice shaking. As we walked away, I glanced back at the man, already lost in the crowd. That day, I learned something: Beijing’s beauty wasn’t just in its golden rooftops or ancient walls, but in people like him, who stopped to help a scared little child.
