Delivery (递送) has a long history in China. In ancient times, delivering things quickly was never easy. People spent much time on the road and often faced terrible weather.
In the early Shang Dynasty, there were no post offices or bicycles. Messengers travelled on foot for days to deliver the king’s messages. They even had to carry food and water for their long journey.
As time went by, delivery improved greatly during the Tang Dynasty. People rode horses to send things. This saved a lot of time. Some also used kites or pigeons (鸽子) to deliver letters. Pigeons could fly long distances and send messages correctly. These new ways made communication much easier.
After that, during the Qing Dynasty, a special service called “biaoju” appeared. Skilled guards (护卫) helped send letters and kept people and their valuable things safe on dangerous roads. They were brave and tried their best to complete each task.
Nowadays, delivery services are everywhere. Online shopping keeps countless delivery workers busy. They ride motorbikes to bring goods to our doors on time, rain or shine. In recent times, many robots and drones (无人机) deliver packages in cities and villages.
▲ . Each year, more than 800 million boxes are reused. There’s no doubt that delivery services are environmentally friendly. From pigeons and horses to robots and drones, the way China delivers things shows how this great ancient nation keeps improving.
49. Which of the following is NOT a way of delivery in the Tang Dynasty?
A. Riding horses. B. Using kites. C. Using pigeons. D. Using drones.
50. According to the passage, what is the correct order of the development of delivery ways?

C. However, many old delivery ways are disappearing in modern society.
D. Besides, delivery companies create new ways to make package transport faster.
52. What is the best title for the passage?

[In a courtroom (法庭) in Venice. Antonio stands silently. Shylock holds a written agreement. Bassanio looks worried.]
Shylock: The agreement is clear. Antonio borrowed money from me. If he could not pay it back on time, I could take one pound of his flesh (肉).
Bassanio: I will pay you twice the money. No, I will pay you three times! Please let him go.
Shylock: I do not want your money. I want what the paper gives me. I want justice (正义)!
Portia: [calmly] The law does allow the agreement. But before you ask for justice, think about mercy (仁慈). Mercy is not forced. It falls quietly, like gentle rain. It blesses (保佑) both the person who gives it and the person who receives it.
Shylock: I ask for the law.
Portia: Then you shall have the law. You may take one pound of flesh from Antonio. But listen carefully: the agreement says “flesh”. It does not say “blood”. If you spill (溢出) one drop of blood, you will break the law.
[Shylock suddenly stops and looks up in surprise.]
Portia: Also, you must take exactly one pound, no more and no less. If the weight is wrong, even by a little, you will be punished.
Shylock: Then give me the money and let me leave.
Portia: You refused mercy when it was offered. Now you must face the same law you asked for.
[The courtroom becomes silent.]
Narrator: Portia wins not by shouting but by reading the words more carefully than anyone else. The scene reminds us that law without mercy can become cold, but mercy without rules may become unfair. True wisdom needs both.

① Have you ever dreamed of travelling to space? For most people, this is just a wild dream. But for astronauts, it is a reality. Astronauts are people who travel to space to carry out scientific research and complete space missions. They need to have strong physical fitness, excellent knowledge and great courage.
② To become an astronaut, one must go through strict training. The training is very hard and challenging. Astronauts need to exercise for hours every day to keep their bodies strong. They also need to learn a lot of knowledge, including physics, chemistry, astronomy and engineering. In addition, they need to practise dealing with emergency situations, such as spacecraft malfunctions (故障) and sudden changes in the space environment.
③ Life in space is very different from that on Earth. Astronauts live in a microgravity (微重力) environment, which means they can float in the air. This makes everyday tasks, such as eating, drinking and sleeping, very different. For example, astronauts eat special space food that is easy to store, carry and eat in a zero-gravity environment. They sleep in sleeping-bags that are fixed to the wall to prevent floating away.

They work closely with each other and with the team on Earth. Teamwork is very important for the success of a space mission. Without teamwork, it is impossible to complete difficult tasks in space.
⑤ Despite the challenges, being an astronaut is a great honour. Astronauts help humans learn more about space and push forward the development of space exploration. They are heroes who dedicate themselves to science and human progress. Their stories inspire millions of young people to pursue their dreams and learn more about the universe.

Here comes a bus with black ears, round eyes and a big nose. A group of passengers excitedly get on the bus. About a minute later, the bus begins self-driving. At a slow speed, the bus runs along a straight road and stops at red lights before parking at the next stop.
With the cute and lovable appearance of a giant panda, this black-and-white bus is called “Panda Bus” and has caught widespread attention. You’ve probably heard how Chinese culture is full of ancient and modern methods for staying fit. Baduanjin, also known as Eight Pieces of Brocade, is among them. It uses special breathing skills to improve both physical and mental well-being. Now let’s take a closer look at it.
It started as early as in the Bei Song Dynasty. It has a history of more than 800 years. In the beginning, it was developed as a way to improve the physical health of soldiers. Over time, it became a comprehensive (全面的) exercise system practiced by martial artists (武术家) and common people.
Baduanjin is one of the most ancient forms of Chinese qigong (a system of deep-breathing exercises). It doesn’t need much space or time. It is famous for its health benefits. This qigong style focuses on breathing—by taking slow, deep breaths, it helps relax our body and calms the mind.
Practice of Baduanjin is believed to bring lots of health benefits, such as improving sleep, improving mental state and reducing stress. The great advantage (好处) of Baduanjin lies in its accessibility (易习得性). People of all ages and fitness levels can practice it without any special tools or experience. Whether performed in the park or the comfort of one’s home, Baduanjin provides gentle (轻柔的) yet effective (高效的) care for both body and mind. There are a total of eight movements in Baduanjin, each with its exact focus. The Eight Pieces of Brocade has been handed down through the centuries as eight short sentences. Let’s go through them one by one.

④ Astronauts also have to work hard in space. They carry out scientific experiments, maintain the space station and collect data about space.

Passengers can get on the bus through a fingerprint recognition system (指纹识别系统). They can also buy food on the bus. A robot on the bus can talk with passengers. It always gives proper solutions for people’s problems like planning routes (线路) and telling them where to get off. Besides that, when it finds out bad behavior like stealing, it’ll record it at once. The bus runs on clean energy. While it is self-driving, it uses many smart tools to “see” the world. It has cameras and sensors all over its body. These tools help the bus watch the road, other cars, and even people walking. So the bus can stop safely when it meet obstacles and follow traffic rules carefully.
The AI-based “Panda Bus” was developed by DeepBlue Technology, China’s Heading AI company. It has already hit the road in some cities across China. DeepBlue has also begun selling smart buses abroad. “There’s still a long way to go before the technology becomes more widely used,” says Chen Haibo, CEO of DeepBlue.
