I can finish most of my homework in class. It’s often a one-page paper. There are about 15 questions. I need to hand it in the next day.

Sometimes I get about two tasks a day, and I spend about half an hour finishing them. For something bigger, such as a project (项目) or a slideshow presentation (幻灯片演示), we usually have about a week to do it and have a partner (伙伴) to work with.

Studying time each day is different, from an hour to three hours. And sometimes we have to do test sheets (测试卷). We need to do them for credits (学分).

In general, homework in Poland does not take too long. We work out Maths problems, do writing, read books, fill in (填写) English exercises...Sometimes we have to make a presentation. For physics (物理), it may take us a longer time to finish the projects. But we can learn a lot from them. After we do an experiment (实验) in the classroom, our homework is to write a report (报告). We should write about all the theory (理论), steps and discussion on errors (错误).

In the past, our homework was more about dull (乏味的) learning. But it’s changing slowly. Students may have more time to practice not only logical thinking (逻辑思维) but also creative thinking (创造思维).

2.   Most students often study very hard for long hours. This is a good habit, but it is not an efficient (有效率的) way. Sometimes, they may find they are tired after studying for a long time. Their parents only care about their study and do not let them do other things. But more efficient students have better ways. They study hard and have enough sleep, food and rest at the same time. Their parents also take them to join in different activities. The efficient students often go out for a walk with their family or visit friends or some nice places to relax themselves. These activities are good for study. When they return to their studies, they’ll find themselves stronger than before and they can learn many things from the world.

Learning English is like taking Chinese medicine (药). That is not to say learning English is bitter (苦的). What I really want to say is that like taking Chinese medicine, the efficiency of study comes slowly but surely. Learn slowly but surely every day, and good results (结果) will come just like Chinese medicine.

3.  Reading is a good habit. There are hundreds of skills to help you read much in a short time. Here are two skills that I think are especially good.

Preview(预览)---if it’s long and hard. Previewing is especially useful for getting a main idea of heavy reading like long articles and reports.

Here’s how to preview.

●Read the first two paragraphs(段落) and the last two paragraphs carefully.

●Then read only the first sentence(句子) of the other paragraphs.

Previewing doesn’t give you everything. It stops you from spending time on things you don’t really want or need to read.

Skim(略读)----if it’s short and simple. Skimming is a good way to get a main idea of light reading quickly ---like news about popular sports and stars.

Here’s how to skim.

●Get your eyes to move fast. Look through each line.

●Pick up only a few important words in each line.

Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same piece, but we’ll get the main idea of the news or article.
