In 2019, I began my Chinese language journey at the Confucius Institute in Rome. I wanted a new challenge—something truly different that would expand my worldview. From the very first lesson, I found it both exciting and challenging. The characters, the tones, and the unique sentence structures deeply attracted me.
However, my interest soon branched out far beyond linguistics (语言学). As I explored further, I discovered that learning the language was just the gateway to a huge cultural heritage (遗产) going back thousands of years. Eager to understand the literary heart of China, I began with Tang Dynasty poetry. Poems by Li Bai and Du Fu introduced me to China’s poetic tradition. Then I explored earlier works like the Shi Jing and Chu Ci, further broadening my understanding of regional literary expressions (地域文学表达). I also took courses on Chinese history, literature and art history. In each new topic, I discovered various viewpoints on life, art and morality (道德).
All these discoveries inspired me to share what I have learned. I wanted to introduce Chinese traditions, stories and innovations (创新) to people back home. I decided to create a magazine, focusing on Chinese culture and traditions, such as history, mythology (神话), literature and art, along with special columns on tea culture and regional foods.
Starting this publishing adventure has also been exciting and challenging. From selecting articles and editing translations to working with experts who can provide unique insights, I felt like I was constantly learning. And that made me fascinated (着迷的) about China.
More importantly, I hope I can contribute to a mutual (相互的) understanding between cultures. If my journey from a curious language student in Rome to a cultural ambassador (大使) helps encourage others to explore, then I will find my personal “China moment”.
24.The writer began learning Chinese because ________.
A.it was easier than European languages
B.he would have a long journey in China
C.it was a language offered at the Confucius Institute
D.he wanted a new challenge to expand his worldview
25.How did the writer feel about his discoveries?
A.Confused. B.Inspired. C.Curious. D.Uncertain.
26.By creating the magazine, the writer hopes to ________.
A.become a Chinese writer B.improve culture understanding
C.make a journey to China D.be a language student in Rome
【答案】24.D 25.B 26.B

The way the mind works is heavily influenced by culture, according to University of Michigan psychologist Richard Nisbett, author of The Geography of Thought: How Asians and Westerners Think Differently... and Why.
Richard Nisbett says that two people from different cultures can look at the same picture and see it in different ways. Culture also teaches people how to see and describe their experiences. Nisbett explains that Asians think differently from Westerners because their culture teaches them to be more aware of society, family, and historical background. Western culture, and especially American culture, tends to pay more attention to individual (个人的) success and being independent of family.
Nisbett argues that culture makes East Asians more holistic or global thinkers: When trying to understand a situation, they like to see the whole picture. They trust feelings and pay attention to relationships because these are valued highly in their culture.
However, Nisbett’s research has shown that Westerners tend to be more analytic (善于分析的). When they try to understand something, Westerners usually prefer to analyze small pieces of information first and build their knowledge piece by piece in order to understand the whole picture.
In study after study, Nisbett and colleagues from China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan found that East Asians and Americans responded in different ways to the same situation. In one experiment, Japanese and Americans viewed the same animated underwater scenes, and reported what they had seen. In the experiment, most of the Americans started by explaining the details, for example, saying there were large fish in the front on the right. However, the Japanese talked about the environment first, mentioning that there was a pond or a fish tank. The Japanese also talked more about the environment and inanimate (无生命的) objects than the Americans, for example, “The big fish swam past the gray seaweed.” This research proves the traditional idea that Americans are less interested in social background and place importance on the individual. The Japanese, on the other hand, place more importance on social background.
27.Nisbett may agree ______.
A.Asians pay less attention to society
B.Westerners focus more on individual success
C.Asians are less aware of historical background
D.Westerners are more dependent on their families
28.The word “holistic” in Paragraph 3 probably means “______”.
A.analysing a small piece B.achieving a big success
C.considering a whole thing D.valuing a good relationship
29.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Thinking Highly Enriches Culture
B.Culture Heavily Influences Thinking
C.Thinking Pushes Culture to Progress
D.Culture Matters More than Thinking
【答案】27.B 28.C 29.B
【导语】本文主要讲述了思维方式在很大程度上受到文化的影响。
27.细节理解题。根据“Western culture, and especially American culture, tends to pay more attention to individual (个人的) success and being independent of family.”可知,他赞同西方人更加注重个人成功的观点。故选B。
28.词义猜测题。根据“ When trying to understand a situation, they like to see the whole picture.”可知,当试图了解一个情况时,他们喜欢看到全局,划线单词表示“整体的,全面的”与“considering a whole thing”近义。故选C。
29.最佳标题题。根据“The way the mind works is heavily influenced by culture”及全文可知,本文主要讲述了思维方式在很大程度上受到文化的影响。故选B。
D
Last weekend, a friend and I went to visit an art museum. We found many works of traditional Chinese calligraphy (书法) on show and felt really excited. Although I don’t know much about calligraphy, I can see it everywhere in China. It is in ads, on posters, and on buildings. Many homes have it on their walls or front doors. You may even see people writing calligraphy with water and a big brush on the ground. I came to learn that calligraphy is viewed by Chinese people as one of the highest forms of art.
In the museum, my friend told me an interesting story about calligraphy. Wang Xizhi (303-361) was one of the best calligraphers in history. He once attended a party at the Orchid Pavilion in the mountains. Every guest wrote a poem during the party, and then Wang wrote an introduction for them. The next day, Wang looked at his calligraphy the Lanting Xu (Introduction to the poems written at the Orchid Pavilion) and realized that it was his best calligraphy ever. He then tried to recreate the exact style of calligraphy, but he found it impossible to do so. When he was at the party, he was very happy and relaxed. This made his calligraphy especially lively. People later said that the calligraphy in the Lanting Xu looked like a Chinese dragon at play.
It is a pity that the original version (真迹) of the Lanting Xu has been lost, but it was copied and studied by many calligraphers. In fact, many students today still copy the Lanting Xu, along with other famous works in history. Doing so not only helps them to improve their own handwriting but also develops their artistic sense.
After visiting the art museum, I began to see that Chinese calligraphy is more than just writing. It is also a way to express feelings and show the beauty of Chinese culture.
30.How does the writer show calligraphy is everywhere in China?
A.By using numbers. B.By asking questions. C.By giving examples. D.By making comparisons.
31.What does the underlined word “them” in Para. 2 refer to (指代)?
A.The guests. B.The poems. C.The parties. D.The dragons.
32.Why do students still learn calligraphy today according to Para. 3?
A.To become famous calligraphers and win praise.
B.To kill time and have a good rest after a busy day.
C.To copy the lost original version and make money.
D.To improve handwriting and develop artistic sense.
33.What is the best title for the text?
A.A Visit to an Art Museum with a Friend.
B.How to Express Feelings in a Proper Way.
C.Chinese Calligraphy: More Than Just Writing.
D.The Story of Wang Xizhi and His Lanting Xu.
第一段“It is in ads, on posters, and on buildings. Many homes have it on their walls or front doors. You may even see people writing calligraphy with water and a big brush on the ground.”可知,作者通过列举多个具体场所来证明书法随处可见,因此用的是“举例说明”。A“列数字”、B“提问”、D“对比”均不符合。
31.第二段中“Every guest wrote a poem... and then Wang wrote an introduction for them.”,每个客人写了一首诗,然后为王为这些诗写序。“them”指代前文的“poems”。
32.第三段“Doing so not only helps them to improve their own handwriting but also develops their artistic sense.”可知,学习书法是为了提高书写和培养艺术感。
33.文章从书法无处不在到王羲之的故事,最后总结“Chinese calligraphy is more than just writing”。C项“中国书法:不仅仅是书写”准确概括主旨。
四、阅读与表达。(本大题共4小题,34-36每题2分,37题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Almost all cultures celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in some way. Different cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year in different ways, and at different times on the calendar.
In Western countries, people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st. People may go to parties, sometimes dressed in formal clothes like tuxedos and evening gowns, and they may drink champagne at midnight. During the first minutes of the new year, people cheer and wish each other happiness for the year ahead. But some cultures prefer to celebrate the new year by waking up early to watch the sunrise. They welcome the new year with the first light of the sunrise.
It is also a common Western custom to make a New Year's promise, called a resolution. New Year's resolutions usually include promises to try something new or change a bad habit in the new year.
Many cultures also do special things to get rid of (摆脱) bad luck at the beginning of a new year. For example, in Ecuador, families make a big doll from old clothes. The doll is filled with old newspapers and firecrackers. At midnight, these dolls are burned to show the bad things from the past year are gone and the new year can start afresh. Other common traditions to keep away bad luck in a new year include throwing things into rivers or the ocean, or saying special things on the first day of the new year.
Other New Year traditions are followed to bring good luck in the new year. One widespread Spanish tradition for good luck is to eat grapes on New Year's Day. The more grapes a person eats, the more good luck the person will have in the year. In France, people eat pancakes for good luck at New Year. In the United States, some people eat black-eyed peas for good luck—but to get good luck for a whole year you have to eat 365 of them!
34.When do people in Western countries usually celebrate New Year?
35.What do New Year's resolutions usually include?
36.Why do people do special things and eat different food on New Year's Day?
37.What do you usually do to celebrate the New Year? Why do you do so? (Please give two reasons)
【答案】34.At midnight on December 31st. 35.Promises to try something new or change a bad habit in the new year. 36.To get rid of bad luck and bring good luck. 37.I usually have a nice dinner and chat with my family members. Because it makes me feel happy and it’s a great chance for us to get together.
【导语】本文介绍了不同文化的国家迎新年的习俗及背后的象征意义。
【详解】34.根据“In Western countries, people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st.”可知,西方国家通常在12月31日午夜庆祝新年。故填At midnight on December 31st.
35.根据“New Year's resolutions usually include promises to try something new or change a bad habit in the new year.”可知,新年决心包括尝试新事物或改变坏习惯。故填Promises to try something new or change a bad habit in the new year.
36.根据“Many cultures also do special things to get rid of (摆脱) bad luck at the beginning of a new year.”以及“Other New Year traditions are followed to bring good luck in the new year.”可知,不同文化做些特别的事情来摆脱坏运气和吃不同食物是为了带来好运。故填To get rid of bad luck and bring good luck.
37.本题为开放性问题,答案不唯一,结合自身文化背景作答即可。故填I usually have a nice dinner and chat with my family members. Because it makes me feel happy and it’s a great chance for us to get together.

A boy named Jake asked, “So it’s like a mix of New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Halloween?” Lin laughed, “I guess so.”
After class, a few students asked whether they could celebrate Chinese New Year with her. That weekend, they made red lanterns and dumplings. Though they couldn’t 17 fireworks, they played the sounds from a phone. Lin even taught them how to say “Xīnnián kuàilè!” as they shared the strangely shaped but delicious dumplings together.
At that moment, Lin’s loneliness 18 disappeared. Instead, her heart was full of joy and warmth. She realized the true spirit of the Spring Festival wasn’t about having perfect 19 or being in the right place. She could share happiness, 20 with other people, and drive away loneliness.
