“Hello,” said a girl with an artificial (人造的) arm, as she shook hands with Easton over his work.
This was the first time Easton met Jenny, a girl with a special condition. She was born without an arm. Her artificial arm was just a simple hook (钩子), but it cost $80.000. What’s worse, children like her grow quickly and need new arms all the time.
“It blew me away! (让我惊叹不已) I built my arm for only $300,” thought Easton. “I must lend a hand to people like her.”
After the fair, Easton’s room became a lab. He stayed there all day. He always tried to improve his work. For his 16th birthday, Easton got a 3D printer. And with it, he invented an artificial arm. It was able to move with the user’s brain signals. But it wasn’t good enough yet. The arm weighed 3.6 kilograms. It was too heavy for a child.
Easton kept working on it. He enjoyed fixing problems one after another. And finally he hit on success at the age of 23. His design was 0.5 kilograms and cost around $500!

根据短文内容回答问题。
Do you know many of the foods we love today were not planned. Actually, they were invented by accident.
In 1853, a cook named George Crum was working in a restaurant in New York. One day, a customer kept sending his French fries back because he complained the chips were too thick. Crum turned angry about it. So he cut the potatoes as thin as possible and fried them until they were very crispy. He even put a lot of salt on them because he wanted to teach the customer a lesson. However, the customer loved them very much. Those thin, salty potatoes later became the potato chips we eat today.
Another famous food was also an accident. At the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, an ice cream seller ran out of dishes. A waffle (华夫饼) seller nearby rolled (卷成) his waffle into a cone. The ice cream seller put ice cream inside the cone (蛋筒). Unexpectedly, people loved it. That is how the ice cream cone was born.
These stories show us something important and interesting: A mistake is not always the end. Sometimes it is the beginning of a great invention. So keep your eyes open when things go wrong — the next great invention might be just a happy accident.
49. Where was George Crum working when he invented potato chips?

Yang Zhenning, a great scientist who made important contributions to physics, had some thoughtful ideas about education. Born in 1922, he was talented in mathematics at a young age. However, his father made an unusual decision. Instead of pushing him to study more math, he hired a tutor (私人教师) to teach him classical Chinese works like Mencius 《孟子》. This experience helped Yang develop good values and broad knowledge, which later proved valuable in his life.
Yang criticized (批评) the “forced feeding” (填鸭式) method in education. He believed that forcing students to memorize too many facts made them “breathless” and killed their creativity and interest in learning. Yang thought it more important for students to keep their natural curiosity.
Later, Yang suggested trying the “permeation” (渗透法) method when students studied. He said: “You don’t need to understand everything completely at first. Just keep reading and listening, and understanding will come naturally over time.”
Besides knowledge, Yang also pointed out the importance of developing personal “taste” in learning. This taste helps them choose suitable research directions. Yang himself successfully combined different ways of thinking from both Eastern and Western education, which gave him a unique advantage.
Finally, Yang always encouraged students to learn broadly at their own pace. He treated learning as a positive and lifelong journey, where different subjects can slowly shape a person’s thinking and values.
根据短文内容,用符合语意及语法规则的词填空,每空一词。

MEMORY HELPER
A talented young team from Ireland, the creators of Memory Helper, developed this support app (应用软件) for people with dementia (痴呆). And they won the final at the 2020 competition, standing out among 5,400 students from 62 countries. — Mars Times reported.
Last year, Laura, Aaron and Vicky put their heads together for Technovation Kids (TK), an international competition that encourages teenagers to create an app solving a community problem.
The inspiration for their project came from their teacher’s mother, who had Alzheimer’s Disease (阿尔茨海默症) and died earlier this year.
To complete their project, the three designed an app to support both people with dementia and their caregivers (护理人员). The app solves some common problems connected with dementia like loss (失去) of memory.
“We hope that our app can reach millions of people who have dementia and just make their lives a little easier,” Laura said.
