Saihanba is China’s largest man-made forest. Around the 10th century, it was a royal (皇家的) hunting place for the rulers of the Liao Dynasty, as it was home to beautiful forests, green grassland, clear lakes and different kinds of wild animals. Centuries later, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty liked Saihanba so much that he made hunting there a royal festival. The royal festival finally stopped because of no money and it had to be open to the public. After that, the cutting down of trees and wildfires changed green Saihanba into gray deserts. By the 1950s, the beauty of Saihanba had completely disappeared with only one tree left. The tree is now famous as “the Tree of Honor (荣耀)”.
On seeing the tree, Chinese scientists made up their minds and dreamt of restoring Saihanba. In February, 1962, plans were made and more than 120 foresters joined 242 local people in Saihanba to begin rebuilding it.
Over the next few decades, those first tree-planters fought against many difficulties. After their deaths, their children and relatives followed them and went on with their work.
Today, the scientists’ dream has come true and beautiful grassland and flowers appear again around the Tree of Honor. Chinese people have effectively changed Saihanba in the past years.

With the improvement of technology, some gadgets (小工具) have changed or even disappeared. Here are some old gadgets that people used to use.
Do you have a landline (固定电话) at home? Mobile phones didn’t use to be so popular at that time, so most families had a landline. But landlines only worked at home. What did people do when they were outside and needed to call someone? They looked for a pay phone! Then, most people had their own mobile phones and many homes no longer had landlines.
People today store plenty of information online, or on SD cards. But in the 1980s and 1990s, people used to use floppy disks (软盘). The first floppy disks were large, expensive, and not very useful—each disk could store just 175 KB of information! Later, floppy disks got smaller and better. But even the best ones could only hold 1.44 MB. You would need three or four disks just for one song!
It’s easy to take photos with mobile phones today. But photos used to cost much, and people took few of them. To take a photo, you had to buy a roll of film. This allowed you to take up to 30 photos. After finishing the roll, you left it at a shop. The shop developed the photos so that they could be seen, and you could collect them after a few days.

of 描述人的品质、性格;for描述事物的属性。本句中:It’s + 形容词 + of/for sb. + to do sth.是英语中常见的形式主语句型。这里的kind(善良的)是用来形容Alice的个人品质的,所以第一个空用介词of;这个句型里后面要接带to的不定式作真正的主语,所以第二个空是to share。

Technology changes all the time, and the gadgets we use today will one day be old. What do you think will be the next to disappear?
