It tells stories about a time of cowboys, horses and open land. The following are some classic Western films you might like. The Rider (2017) Brady Blackburn is a young cowboy who loves horses and horse-riding. But a serious head injury ends his riding dream, and he has to find a new goal in life. The film quietly shows how Brady slowly gets back his hope and confidence. Meek’s Cutoff (2010) The story is set in the old American West. A group of travelers move across a desert in Oregon, hoping to find a better place to live. But their guide seems to be lost, so their trip becomes slow and dangerous. The film follows them, showing how they keep their courage in hard times. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) Two poor Americans go to Mexico to look for gold with an old man. After they find a lot of gold, the three men have to protect it together. But the gold slowly changes them — they stop trusting each other. This film shows that money can bring out both the best and the worst in people. High Noon (1952) Will Kane, a small-town policeman, faces a hard choice. A group of bad men are coming to town to catch him, and his new wife asks him to run away with her. But he decides to stay and face the danger alone. The film shows what courage really means. Several American presidents have seen it as one of their favorite films. 1. Who may the film The Rider be most suitable for? A. Farmers who raise horses. B. Students interested in police stories. C. People looking for better places to live. D. People who have suffered serious injuries. 2. What do the main characters in Meek’s Cutoff and High Noon have in common? A. They are lost in the desert. B. They are brave when facing danger. C. They are caught by some bad men. D. They are encouraged by their family. 3. Which film best shows the weakness of human nature? A. The Rider. B. Meek’s Cutoff. C. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. D. High Noon. D 2. B 3. 根据The Rider部分的介绍“But a serious head injury ends his riding dream...The film quietly shows how Brady slowly gets back his hope and confidence.(但是严重的头部受伤结束了他的骑马梦想……这部电影静静地展示了布雷迪是如何慢慢找回希望和自信的)”可知,这部电影讲述了主角在受重伤后重拾希望与自信的故事。因此,它最适合那些同样遭受过严重伤害的人观看,能给他们带来精神上的鼓舞。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Meek’s Cutoff部分的“showing how they keep their courage in hard times(展示了他们在艰难时期如何保持勇气)”以及High Noon部分的“But he decides to stay and face the danger alone. The film shows what courage really means.(但他决定留下来独自面对危险。这部电影展示了勇气的真正含义)”可知,这两部电影的主角在面对危险和困境时,都展现出了勇敢的品质。 【3题详解】 推理判断题。根据The Treasure of the Sierra Madre部分的“But the gold slowly changes them — they stop trusting each other. This film shows that money can bring out both the best and the worst in people.(但是金子慢慢改变了他们——他们不再互相信任。这部电影表明金钱可以激发人们最好和最坏的一面)”可知,这部电影讲述了人们在金钱诱惑下失去信任的故事,最能深刻地展示人性的弱点。 B A pizza shop owner in the Bronx is making sure people in need know they have a place to get a hot meal without paying. It started when D’ Romano’s Pizza owner Daniel Romano saw a woman taking food from the restaurant’s rubbish. Instead of looking away, Romano walked up to her and brought her inside. “I took her by the hand and led her into the restaurant,” Romano said. “I got her a fresh piece.” The woman began to cry. Romano told her there was nothing to be awkward about. “I don’t want you to eat out of the rubbish,” he told her. The moment stayed with Romano, and he decided he wanted to make sure no one else in the same situation would have to choose between going hungry and searching through a rubbish can. So he put up a notice outside the restaurant. “To the people eating out of the rubbish, I have more love for you than you think. Please tell me when you’re hungry, and I will give you a piece of pizza.” The offer is simple. Anyone who is hungry can come in and receive a free piece of pizza and water. But Romano’s act of kindness didn’t stop at his neighborhood. After people learned that, calls began coming in from across the country. People who had never met Romano were offering to pay for pieces so that others in need could enjoy a hot meal. What began with one woman, one piece of pizza and one kind decision has now turned into a group effort to make sure people don’t have to go hungry. And perhaps the most wonderful part of Romano’s message isn’t the free pizza. It’s the lesson that everyone should be treated with dignity (尊严). Sometimes, a hot meal can fill an empty stomach. Sometimes, the kindness that comes with it can fill something else. 4. What led to Romano’s first kind act? A. A stranger’s asking for help.  B. The behavior of a hungry woman. C. The joyful tears from a customer.  D. A similar experience of his own. 5. Why did Romano put up a notice outside? A. To encourage more volunteers. B. To collect customers’ suggestions. C. To offer free food to more people. D. To advertise his own pizza shop. 6. What was people’s response to Romano’s act? A. They paid for pizzas for the poor. B. They followed his example in their own shops. C. They visited the restaurant in person. D. They sent Romano many letters of praise. 7. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. Free food is the best help for the poor. B. The owner’s kindness brought him dignity. C. Group effort counts a lot in charity activities. D. The true value of help lies in showing respect. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段“It started when D’Romano’s Pizza owner Daniel Romano saw a woman taking food from the restaurant’s rubbish. (事情始于D’Romano’s 披萨店的老板Daniel Romano看到一名妇女正在从餐厅的垃圾桶里拿食物。)”可知,Romano的第一次善举是由一位饥饿妇女的行为引发的。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“So he put up a notice outside the restaurant. “To the people eating out of the rubbish, I have more love for you than you think. Please tell me when you’re hungry, and I will give you a piece of pizza.”(于是他在餐厅外面贴了一张告示。“给那些在垃圾桶里找食物的人,我对你们的爱比你们想象的要多。当你饿了的时候,请告诉我,我会给你一块披萨。”)”可知,Romano在餐厅外面贴告示是为了向更多人提供免费食物。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“People who had never met Romano were offering to pay for pieces so that others in need could enjoy a hot meal. (那些从未见过Romano的人主动提出为披萨买单,以便其他有需要的人能享用一顿热饭。)”可知,人们对Romano行为的反应是他们为穷人支付披萨费用。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“And perhaps the most wonderful part of Romano’s message isn’t the free pizza. It’s the lesson that everyone should be treated with dignity (尊严). (也许Romano传达的信息中最美好的部分并不是免费的披萨。而是每个人都应该被有尊严地对待这一课。)”可知,从最后一段可以学到帮助的真正价值在于展示尊重。 C Coloring has long been a favorite activity for children. With ready-made patterns (图案), kids only need colored tools to fill in pictures. Yet fun in coloring is no longer limited (局限) to children. Nowadays, an increasing number of adults turn to coloring for relaxation, driven by the fashion for adult coloring books around the world. In one December, five adult coloring books were among America’s top ten bestsellers. Trina Lucido, an artist who creates such books, gets her ideas from common sights around her. A leaf, a single word or objects on the ground can shape her designs. Her latest work Color, Write and Create includes 40 pages of handmade flowers, birds and geometric shapes. Besides patterns, it offers empty spaces for writing, a method widely used in various treatments for diseases. The aim of the book is to inspire creativity. Lucido feels sad when people believe they lack (缺乏) creative ability, for she holds the view that everyone can be creative. She receives positive responses from readers, many of whom buy her books for relatives and friends suffering from illness or difficulties, as coloring is regarded as a relaxing activity. Some experts explain coloring lowers stress by keeping people focused on simple tasks. While filling patterns with colors, people forget their worries for a while. What’s more, coloring opens up imagination and brings back childhood memories. Scientists point out that coloring wakes up the brain in a healthy way. Shapes excite one side of the brain, while colors and surface features excite the other. Coloring also helps develop people’s hand skills, though few people who enjoy coloring pay attention to this physical advantage. Susan Jackson, a reader of Lucido’s works, thinks highly of the beauty and special features of the drawings. She says coloring really relieves her stress and cheers her up. Unlike facing a piece of empty paper, pre-made patterns feel less challenging. Nowadays, adult coloring books sell well, bringing Lucido a busy but happy life. 8. Where does Lucido draw her creative inspiration from? A. Books by other artists.   B. Various medical treatments. C. Daily things in her life.   D. Readers’ real-life experiences. 9. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The benefits coloring brings to people.  B. Experts’ different opinions on coloring. C. The skills needed for coloring well.  D. The reason why coloring receives popularity. 10. What is Susan Jackson’s attitude to Lucido’s works? A. Doubtful.  B. Uncaring.  C. Supportive.  D. Unclear. 11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Books Are Becoming Popular Among Adults B. Useful Ways to Reduce Adults’ Daily Stress C. Talented Artists Design Attractive Colorful Books D. Coloring Brings Relaxation and Creativity to Adults 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C 11. 根据文章第二段“Trina Lucido, an artist who creates such books, gets her ideas from common sights around her. A leaf, a single word or objects on the ground can shape her designs.(创作这类书籍的艺术家Trina Lucido从她周围常见的景象中获取灵感。一片叶子、一个词或地上的物体都能塑造她的设计)”可知,她的创作灵感来源于生活中的日常事物。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。阅读文章第四段可知,该段列举了涂色的多种积极作用,包括“lowers stress”(降低压力)、“opens up imagination”(开启想象力)、“wakes up the brain in a healthy way”(以健康的方式唤醒大脑)以及“helps develop people’s hand skills”(有助于发展人们的手部技能)。 根据文章第五段第一句“Susan Jackson, a reader of Lucido’s works, thinks highly of the beauty and special features of the drawings.(Lucido作品的读者Susan Jackson高度评价这些画作的美感和特点)”可知,Lucido的作品是非常认可和支持的。 D AI is widely used to save teachers’ time by quickly creating lesson plans, teaching materials and student feedback (反馈). Yet one of the first real-classroom studies suggests AI may do harm to learning, as reported by The Hechinger Report. Students whose teachers used an AI teaching assistant (助手) showed less interest in learning. The harm was most clear among students of less-effective (效果差的) teachers, who scored worse on standardized final exams. Lead researcher Alp Sungu, a professor at Wharton School, believes teachers are likely to depend too much on AI. Instead of completing teaching work independently, teachers farm out tasks to AI, lowering teaching quality. Many teachers create homework, lecture notes and teaching plans through AI but make few changes to machine-produced content (内容), resulting in poor-quality learning materials. Carried out in spring 2025 together with researcher Angela Duckworth, the experiment covered 193 teachers and more than 2,800 Turkish middle-and high-school students from private schools. Teachers were divided into two groups. One group received a ChatGPT-based AI assistant matching local teaching requirements, while the other taught normally. Over ten weeks, teachers with the AI assistant mainly used the tool to produce notes, exercises and tests. Compared with the control group, students under AI-aided teachers found classes less enjoyable and valuable, with slightly less interest in learning. The drop was greater for students whose teachers were heavy AI users beforehand. The test scores stayed the same. Still, students of weaker teachers had lower school performance and confidence. Without going into the classroom, researchers cannot prove exact causes. Sungu’s idea is that AI removes teachers’ personal style, making lessons boring. Strong teachers revise AI-produced content for classes, while weaker ones use them directly. Sungu does not refuse AI in education. He points out that only using AI cannot promise better teaching. Teacher training, rules and improved systems are needed to protect human judgment and creativity. Even when teachers use AI for classroom activities, major revisions are necessary. AI is not a real time-saver in practical teaching. 12. What does the underlined part “farm out” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Carry out.  B. Hand over.  C. Give up.  D. Take on. 13. How did the researchers carry out their experiment? A. By comparing the teaching effects of two groups of teachers. B. By asking teachers to use AI tools in the same classroom. C. By checking students’ learning interest every ten weeks. D. By collecting students’ feedback on AI teaching online. 14. What makes AI-aided teaching fail to produce satisfying learning results? A. Students’ loss of interest in AI. B. The blind use of AI by weaker teachers. C. The great advantages of traditional teaching. D. Teachers’ desire for quick success in teaching. 15. What is Sungu’s opinion on AI in the last paragraph? A. It should be used with teachers’ revisions. B. It can reduce teachers’ work pressure. C. It only works for experienced teachers. D. It is of little value in classroom teaching. B 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段“Instead of completing teaching work independently, teachers farm out tasks to AI, lowering teaching quality.(教师不再独立完成教学工作,而是把任务farm out给人工智能,降低了教学质量。)”以及第三段“Many teachers create homework, lecture notes and teaching plans through AI but make few changes to machine-produced content (内容), resulting in poor-quality learning materials.(许多教师借助人工智能编写作业、制作讲义和教案,但几乎不对机器生成的内容做出修改,最终导致学习材料质量不佳。)” 根据第四段“Teachers were divided into two groups. One group received a ChatGPT-based AI assistant matching local teaching requirements, while the other taught normally.(教师被分为两组。一组获得适配本地教学要求、基于ChatGPT的人工智能助手,另一组按常规方式授课。)”以及第五段“Compared with the control group, students under AI-aided teachers found classes less enjoyable and valuable, with slightly less interest in learning.(与对照组相比,由人工智能辅助授课的教师所带的学生认为课堂趣味性和价值感更低,学习兴趣也略有下降。)” 根据第六段“Sungu’s idea is that AI removes teachers’ personal style, making lessons boring. Strong teachers revise AI-produced content for classes, while weaker ones use them directly.(Sungu认为人工智能抹去了教师的个人风格,让课堂变得枯燥。优秀教师会为课堂修改人工智能生成的内容,而能力较弱的教师直接使用这些内容。)”可知,能力较弱的教师直接使用AI生成的内容、盲目使用AI,是AI辅助教学达不到满意学习效果的原因。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Even when teachers use AI for classroom activities, major revisions are necessary.(即便教师在课堂活动中使用人工智能,也必须进行大幅度修改。)” Many children spend a lot of time watching or playing with electronic media, from televisions to video games and computers. So it is natural that parents should wonder about all the time children spend looking at a TV or computer screen. Here are some suggestions. ____16____For children aged 18 to 24 months, choose high-quality media for your child. And avoid using media as a way to calm your child. For kids aged 2 to 5, limit screen time use to one hour a day. Avoid letting the child watch media alone. ____17____For children aged 6 and older, limit the time spent using media and the kinds of media. Also, make sure screen time does not take the place of healthy sleep, physical activity and other behaviors important to health. Make sure to have media-free time together as a family. What’s more, set some media-free areas in the house. ____18____ Some experts also suggest that doctors educate parents about brain development in the early years and the importance of hands-on, free play that builds language, thinking and social skills. ____19____The activities include getting enough sleep, exercising and doing homework. Yet, some experts question whether too much screen time is harmful. Christopher Ferguson teaches psychology (心理学)at Stetson University in the American state of Florida. He notes a lack of evidence (证据)supporting reports that too many hours spent playing video games or watching TV are truly harmful.____20____But he believes it is unfair to lay children’s problems only on media use. However, he still thinks that parents should limit the time kids spend on screens. A. There are only so many hours in a day. B. Instead, watch together with your child. C. American children are hardly affected by TV or computers. D. Turn off your kid’s electronic media an hour before bedtime. E. Avoid any media use in children younger than 18 months old. F. Still, he notes, many people think too much screen time is bad. G. They suggest that parents balance online time with daily activities. 16. E 17. B 18. D 19. G 20. A serious illness in my stomach did not get better with any medicine, and the doctors said the next step would be a big operation (手术). Day after day, I was afraid when the doctors came into my room because they always brought bad news. As a bike rider, I was used to good health, and the idea of having an operation both scared and worried me. I had already been in hospital for so long that I became deeply discouraged. One doctor had told me I would probably be unable to continue cycling after the operation. It seemed that the life I used to live was over. One afternoon, I broke down, wondering if I would ever get well. Later that day, while I was lying in bed, a man wearing a cool hat came into my room with a plastic box filled with snacks of all kinds. At that time, I was used to a number of people showing up in my room for different reasons, so I thought he was a volunteer stopping by to drop off some food. The man told me he had gotten permission (许可) from my nurse, and that I could have any of the snacks, either for myself or to share with visitors. I was surprised when he set the box on my bedside table and told me the whole thing was mine. Then the man stood by my bedside with a kind face and said something I will never forget. “Someone sent me to this room today to tell you that you should not lose hope.” I told him that sounded great, and that it was easy to lose hope after being in hospital for so long. He repeated his encouraging message firmly (坚定地), and then we made small talk. After a few minutes, the man left. Soon, I fell into deep sleep. When I woke up the next morning, the box was still there. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Months later, I was finally well enough to leave the hospital. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 When I woke up the next morning, the box was still there. I reached out and opened it, and sure enough, the snacks were still inside. I picked up a cookie and took a bite, and the previous day’s event came back to me — the man with the cool hat and his kind words. Just then, my doctor walked in with the same serious look, ready to give me more bad news. But this time, I did not feel the usual sadness. I simply smiled and said I was feeling better. Months later, I was finally well enough to leave the hospital. To everyone’s surprise, I didn’t need the expected operation. I thanked the doctors and nurses for their care. Soon I started cycling again, and several more months later, I took part in a race and finished it with a prize. That was enough for me. I still kept that snack box, remembering the kind stranger who gave me hope in my darkest days. Now, the snacks are long gone, but the box is filled with hope. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①回想:come back to/recall/look back on ②参加:take part in/participate in/be engaged in 情绪类 ①悲伤:sadness/sorrow ②惊讶:surprise/amazement 【点睛】【高分句型1】Just then, my doctor walked in with the same serious look, ready to give me more bad news. Meek’s Cutoff. C. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. D. High Noon. B A pizza shop owner in the Bronx is making sure people in need know they have a place to get a hot meal without paying. C Coloring has long been a favorite activity for children. Coloring Brings Relaxation and Creativity to Adults D AI is widely used to save teachers’ time by quickly creating lesson plans, teaching materials and student feedback (反馈). Many children spend a lot of time watching or playing with electronic media, from televisions to video games and computers. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
