The Discovery Room. · B. Read to a Pet. · C. The Monthly Lego Party. · D. Creative Kids: After-school Arts Activity. Kids with their grown-ups are invited for an hour of Lego play. 3. This creative activity is for ages 4 and up. 选项逐一分析 · A. It is a weekly program. · D. It is for kids aged 2—4. 23 题 答案:A 定位原文:The Discovery Room 板块:The theme of the Discovery Room changes four times a year. 选项逐一分析 · A. Its theme changes. · B. It is held four times a year. · C. It takes place on weekdays. · D. He and 26 other high school students from Durham, east of Toronto, Canada, started a company that turns unused clothes into practical reusable bags. Nabeel said the clothing they use is in good condition, but is being thrown away because it’s no longer useful or it’s out of style. By repurposing clothes (given by family and friends) heading for the garbage dump (垃圾场), Nabeel can work towards achieving his goal: cutting down on textile waste in Canada. “We give it a new purpose, ” said Nabeel, the company’s president. How does the company work? The students take the clothes and put them in the wash. Then a team member cuts the clothes to match a pre-drawn outline. After that, the bags are sewn (缝制) together by a sewer who volunteers to help the company. The team puts pictures of them on their website and Instagram so people can buy them for between $8 and $12. Nabeel said the goal of the company—named Vivlio Amet—is to let people know how much textile waste leads to climate change. But Vivlio Amet will only last for a little while longer. That’s because Vivlio Amet started in October 2019 as an 18-week Junior Achievement Program project. Through the program, volunteer advisers team up with students to help them start a temporary business from the ground up. Though the program is completely separate from school, Nabeel said it doesn’t feel like extra work. “I don’t treat it like a task. It’s something I like a lot, ” Nabeel said. “If you want to be successful you need to work really hard at it. ” 24. What does Vivlio Amet do? A. It runs a garbage dump. B. It sells reusable old clothes. C. It makes bags with old clothes. D. It collects unused clothes for factories. 25. According to Nabeel, what is the purpose of Vivlio Amet? A. To make pocket money for him. B. To try his luck at running a company. C. To call on people to avoid textile waste. D. To set a good example for his classmates. 26. What does the underlined word “temporary” in paragraph 6 mean? A. School-based. B. Short-lived. C. Privately-owned. D. Half-finished. 27. How did Nabeel feel about his work for the program? A. It was tiring. B. It was pioneering. C. It was quite difficult. D. It was very enjoyable. He and 26 other high school students from Durham, east of Toronto, Canada, started a company that turns unused clothes into practical reusable bags. 选项逐一分析 · A. It runs a garbage dump. · B. It sells reusable old clothes. · C. It makes bags with old clothes. · D. It collects unused clothes for factories. Nabeel can work towards achieving his goal: cutting down on textile waste in Canada. Nabeel said the goal of the company—named Vivlio Amet—is to let people know how much textile waste leads to climate change. 选项逐一分析 · A. To make pocket money for him. · B. To try his luck at running a company. · C. To call on people to avoid textile waste. · D. To set a good example for his classmates. That’s because Vivlio Amet started in October 2019 as an 18-week Junior Achievement Program project. Through the program, volunteer advisers team up with students to help them start a temporary business from the ground up. 选项逐一分析 · A. School-based. · B. Short-lived. · C. Privately-owned. · D. Half-finished. Though the program is completely separate from school, Nabeel said it doesn’t feel like extra work. “I don’t treat it like a task. It’s something I like a lot,” Nabeel said. 选项逐一分析 · A. It was tiring. · B. It was pioneering. · C. It was quite difficult. · D. It was very enjoyable. C Going from middle school to high school can be difficult, as students are faced with new academic (学业的) and social challenges. Before the first day of high school, there are things every soon-to-be high school freshmen and their families should know. People who have a fixed mindset (思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or weak. On the other hand, people who have a growth mindset believe that their greatness or weakness is because of their own actions. I totally agree that students should have a growth mindset. I don’t expect any student to move from just passing a subject to an A+. It’s going to take time and focused effort; just keep working on it. Parents should prepare students to fight the battle “on the pillow” and “in the kitchen”. When I say “pillow” I mean sleep. Not having enough sleep can have some surprising effects on students, including improper behavior, anxiety and poor grades. The second weapon (武器) is eating healthy and balanced meals. Studies show that students who eat nutritious meals and who exercise 60 minutes a day remain more attentive during the school day and experience improved academic achievement and grades. This last “secret” weapon is not to have over-scheduled (安排过度的) time. Make sure students know how to set realistic plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren’t important to them. A lot of students know each other from primary and middle school. They are in their “comfort zones”, feeling they have a sense of control over and expectation of their relationships. But come the first day of high school, that will all change. The reason I encourage high school freshmen to step out of their comfort zones, though often scary, is that comfort zones get boring and there are many kinds of people to get to know. Let’s encourage them to get involved, have fun and play. 28. Which of the following represents a fixed mindset? A. I’m at the starting point of my potential. B. My mother is not good at chemistry either. C. I should start studying a little earlier next time. D. It’s okay if I fail; at least I’ve learned something. 29. What might the author encourage parents to do? A. To prepare healthy meals for their kids. B. To praise their kids when they do well in school. C. To take their kids to visit their grandparents often. D. To buy soft pillows for their kids to have a good rest. 30. What is the third weapon mainly about? A. Enjoying good health. B. Owning the ability to say no. C. Balancing schoolwork and play. D. Developing time management skills. 31. What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to? A. The sense of control. B. The value of friendship. C. The feeling that they have control over relationship. D. The feeling that they become helpless. People who have a fixed mindset (思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or weak. 选项逐一分析 · A. The sense of control. 分析:只提到了 control,漏掉了后面的 expectation of their relationships,不完整。 · B. The value of friendship. · C. The feeling that they have control over relationship. 分析:对应原文 “feeling they have a sense of control over and expectation of their relationships”,概括指代前面这种感受。 · D. The feeling that they become helpless. D I was sitting at a table, eating a chicken salad sandwich. I wasn’t really hungry but I was supposed to sit a bit and eat something to refill my strength before heading home. I had left early to be the first in line at a blood drive which was being held 15 miles away from my home. I knew that the changes because of something unusual would make the donation process even longer than it was before and I was right. I stood at the door and had my temperature checked even before going into the room. Once I was admitted, it was checked a second time along with my pulse, blood pressure and iron level. Then I had to answer a long list of questions, making sure I had never been anywhere or done anything so I would be safe to donate blood. Thankfully, it all went well and I was soon lying on a table with a needle in my arm and my blood quietly flowing into a pint-sized bag. I chatted and joked with the lady drawing my blood. They had almost 50 people scheduled to donate blood that day and were happy to do it because each pint of blood could be saving a life. I took another bite of my sandwich, drank some water, and looked down at the paper lying next to me. On it was a date that was 56 days from then. It was the first day I would be able to donate blood again. Every pint of blood we donate can save a life. Every smile we share can uplift a heart. Every kind word we say can brighten a day. Every act of kindness we do can make this world a better place. Fill all your days with love then. 32. What did the writer expect before leaving his home? A. It would take little time to donate blood. B. More people would come to donate blood. C. He might be hungry after donating blood. D. The process of donating blood would be longer. 33. When would the writer be able to donate blood again? A. Fifty-six days from the day on. B. After eating the chicken salad sandwich. C. After drinking a bottle of water. D. After having a rest for two hours. 34. What did the writer want to tell us in the text? A. Make the world a safer place. B. Share your love with others. C. Spend your days in a happy way. D. Listen to kind words every day. 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. A Way of Saving a Life B. An Act of Kindness C. A Pint of Blood D. Business has been hard and I have been doing a lot of consulting for customers who haven’t been able to afford help. 37 I have a need and desire to help, but I often say “Yes” when my wallet should be saying “No! ” The last few years have been such a struggle for so many of my customers from so many walks of life. 38 Worse yet, I always have a voice in the back of my head that says if I don’t relax or learn a better way to deal with stress, cancer might come near! So when my daughter said that sentence, I promised to spend more time in nature. 39 It is so grounding and so healing. I have traded a few gym days for hikes in the hills above my house. 40 I am always more clear-headed after that. So I plan on spending some time this summer in southern California, enjoying thinking at the base of an old, wise tree—with my daughter of course. A. I struggle with this. B. What she said is so true.(她说的很对)放在这里会和后文 “I encouraged: You are right” 重复; C/D/F/G 都不承接孩子刚刚说完这句话的场景。 Business has been hard and I have been doing a lot of consulting for customers who haven’t been able to afford help. I have a need and desire to help, but I often say "Yes” when my wallet should be saying"No! A:I struggle with this. The last few years have been such a struggle for so many of my customers from so many walks of life. Worse yet, I always have a voice in the back of my head that says if I don’t relax or learn a better way to deal with stress, cancer might come near! F:I have trouble sleeping, sometimes. ❌C(My health is on the downside. So when my daughter said that sentence, I promised to spend more time in nature. It is so grounding and so healing. B:What she said is so true. I have traded a few gym days for hikes in the hills above my house. I am always more clear-headed after that. G:Have you ever sat in a park and stared at a tree? C. My health is on the downside.(我的健康状况变差) D. I decided to stop the busy life.(我决定停止忙碌的生活) 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 On a recent Monday, Ridge Meadows Elementary fourth-grader Evie Morgan was moving around the school track on her adaptive (自适应的) bicycle. B Ever heard of the words “one man’s waste is another man’s treasure? ” Nabeel Alam has taken that idea to a whole new level.
