Claire Ring grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where sustainability took root early. Her mom chose paper grocery bags over plastic ones and taught her the difference between biodegradable and non-biodegradable items. “Little things like that,” Claire says, “cast light on how I see waste and responsibility today.”
After moving to the Bay Area with her husband and newborn baby, Claire stayed home, and what stood out was the plastic piling up in her recycling bin. Curiosity turned into concern, and concern into action. “I didn’t know much about recycling then, but I suspected most of it wasn’t actually being recycled.” That realization led her down a rabbit hole into plastic waste management’s broken systems, where she discovered Precious Plastic, an open-source project for small-scale recycling. Inspired, she decided: if the system isn’t working, I’ll start my own.
While sourcing plastic for her experiments, Claire found pill bottles sold online, and they worked beautifully. “They’re common, difficult to avoid, and rarely accepted by local recycling programs,” she explains — the perfect material for a new experiment.
Her process is not as simple as it looks: collect, clean, cut, melt, and mold (用模具浇铸). Using injection molding, Claire shapes the melted plastic into bold, stylish sunglasses. When a pair reaches the end of its life, customers can send it back for recycling, earning a discount on their next pair.
Claire named her brand Cocoplum, aiming to make it a go-to brand for stylish, sustainable eyewear. She hopes to inspire other companies to rethink their reliance on virgin (原生的) plastic by proving that recycled materials can be just as functional and beautiful — a refreshing signal that thoughtful design can reimagine waste as a resource.
4. What initially shaped Claire’s awareness of sustainability?
A. The plastic waste piling up at her home.
B. Her family’s eco-friendly daily practices.
C. The lessons on biodegradable items at school.
D. The local recycling programs in her community.
5. What does the underlined phrase “a rabbit hole” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. A quick solution. B. A business decision.
C. A public campaign. D. A deep investigation.
6. Why does Claire choose pill bottles for her project?
A. They are colorful and cheap. B. They are accepted by most programs.
C. They are naturally degradable. D. They are accessible but under-recycled.
7. What does Claire expect Cocoplum to do?
A. Cut production costs. B. Meet customer expectations.
C. Influence industry practices. D. Popularize the recycling of pill bottles.
C
You finish a lecture, a meeting, a conversation with someone you care about. Instinctively, you reach for your phone. The empty moment feels like wasted time, so you fill it with a podcast or a feed.
Yet this habit may work against you. When you learn something new, the memory is fragile at first, more like wet cement than carved stone. In the minutes that follow, the brain works to strengthen what it has taken in — a process called memory consolidation. Quiet rest, researchers suggest, can help it along — which is exactly what a podcast interrupts.
Two recent reviews of dozens of studies found that people generally remembered more when learning was followed by several minutes of quiet rest rather than an absorbing task, an advantage still detectable seven days later. One explanation is that rest leaves the brain fewer competing demands and more chance to replay a new experience, like an internal highlight reel.
Sleep has long been known to support memory, and some researchers now argue that it is part of a broader process: the brain uses any period with little new information to make recent learning more stable. In one experiment, participants who slept for 30 minutes after a task, and those who rested with their eyes closed, showed similar benefits — both better than those given a distracting task.
Quiet rest works best, though, only when the mind settles too. Participants who spent the break recalling the past or imagining the future remembered less than those who rested without such thoughts. Background worry can do the same, pulling the brain into a watchful state when it would otherwise be processing what it has just learned.
The science is far from settled: the benefit varies with age and the kind of memory tested, and some studies have failed to reproduce (重复验证) it. Nor does quiet rest seem to require silence, closed eyes or any special position. The practical advice is modest — after learning something you want to keep, leave a short gap before reaching for more information.
8. What can we learn about memory consolidation from the first two paragraphs?
A. Podcasts can speed up the process greatly.
B. It happens long after you learn new things.
C. It helps weaken newly-learned information.
D. It is where the brain strengthens what it receives.
9. What does the experiment in Paragraph 4 suggest?
A. Only sleep produced a clear benefit.
B. The gains lasted less than a single day.
C. The distracting task improved memory.
D. Sleep and quiet rest worked equally well.
10. What is the key to getting the best effect of quiet rest?
A. Staying alert to potential surroundings.
B. Imagining possible future events actively.
C. Keeping the brain free from mental disturbance.
D. Recalling what one has ever learned in the past.
11. What is the text mainly about?
A. A simple habit that helps memory.
B. Recent progress in memory research.
C. The influence of podcasts on memory.
D. The role of sleep in learning new skills.

A powerful AI has recently made headlines after its existence was unintentionally revealed to have the ability to hack computers without punishment. Created by Anthropic, an AI giant, Mythos can identify cybersecurity (网络安全) flaws in seconds, leaving operating systems and software vulnerable to hackers (黑客). Anthropic claims that, if asked, Mythos can discover vulnerabilities in any software.
However, under a program called Project Glasswing, Anthropic has decided to make it available to a selected group of tech and finance giants — including Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft — so that they can detect any bugs in their own systems before someone else does. Meanwhile, members of a private online forum have also managed to gain access to the trial. Kevin Curran at Ulster University, UK, notes that the potential capabilities of Mythos have triggered alarm across the security industry, although researchers remain divided on how serious the threat actually was.
Nevertheless, it seems that it isn’t time to panic yet. Bobby Holley at Firefox, one of the organizations given access to Mythos, wrote in a blog post that the model helped his team find 271 vulnerabilities in the company’s web browser, yet that none was so remarkably complex that a human analyst couldn’t have found. The UK’s AI Security Institute (AISI) has also investigated Mythos. In tests, it was found to be capable of attacking only small, weakly defended and vulnerable enterprise systems. No evidence was found that genuinely secure software or networks would be at risk. Still, the institute cautioned that such models are improving fast.
Alan Woodward at the University of Surrey, UK, has a practical view — Mythos is not necessarily capable of finding vulnerabilities that a human wouldn’t, but it’s just so much faster, thorough and relentless. Hence, it’s finding vulnerabilities that humans have missed. In essence, “AI is making — and will continue to make — both hacking and defending from hackers easier”, he explains, “but those who ignore the technology will find themselves at a big disadvantage.”
12. What potential harm may Mythos bring to humans?
A. It may be misused by hackers.
B. It will replace human researchers.
C. It can punish hackers automatically.
D. It will cause conflicts among tech companies.
13. What is the purpose of Project Glasswing?
A. To test AI’s hacking power publicly.
B. To help major firms check system flaws.
C. To restrict the use of advanced AI tools.
D. To relieve public worries about AI safety.
14. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A. Mythos can defeat perfectly secure systems.
B. People’s fear of Mythos is somewhat unnecessary.
C. Human analysts cannot find complex vulnerabilities.
D. AISI suggests stopping the use of Mythos immediately.
15. How does Alan Woodward feel about Mythos?
A. It will take the place of human professionals.
B. It boasts higher reliability than human workers.
C. Its outstanding efficiency makes it a useful asset.
D. It leaves human researchers in absolute disadvantage.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Traditionally, consumers focused on price and function when making purchasing decisions. But today, more shoppers are buying for something deeper: emotional value. ____16____ It refers to the positive feelings customers get from their interactions with a brand — joy, trust, belonging, or a sense of being understood. And it has become the ultimate edge in 2026, as products with similar features and prices struggle to stand out in crowded markets.
Functional value answers “Does it work?”, but emotional value answers “How does it make me feel?” ____17____ According to a recent study, emotionally connected customers spend twice as much and stay loyal longer than those who only care about usefulness. So how can brands build this kind of value consistently?
The first step is heartfelt empathy in every interaction. Stop relying on scripted replies; instead, listen carefully for the emotion behind a customer’s words. You might be surprised by how small, empathetic responses can leave a lasting positive impression.
____18____ Don’t just share something about your brand, but help them see their own lives, struggles, and dreams in it.
Third, deliver surprise-and-delight moments, like personalized gestures that make customers feel truly seen and valued.
Another key practice is making every decision consistent with shared values that strike a chord with your audience. ____19____
Finally, build emotional consistency across the entire customer journey, ensuring every touch point — from ads to post-purchase support — reinforces the feeling you want them to have.
By prioritizing these practices, brands don’t just sell products — they build lasting connections. ____20____ They will choose your brand over competitors, even when cheaper options exist.
A. This invisible bond drives powerful results.
B. It comes from products’ superior functions and low prices.
C. Next, use storytelling that mirrors your audience’s identity.
D. The next step is to create stories to cater to the public’s tastes.
E. It’s the emotional “net gain” beyond a product’s features or price tag.
F. Gen Z shoppers especially favor brands with consistent values and deeds.
G. In a crowded market, this is what turns one-time buyers into lifelong advocates.

Olivia and Clara had been best friends since middle school. Under the sheltering tree of their friendship, they had stuck together through thick and thin, though they had different personalities: Olivia enjoyed reading quietly whereas Clara was fond of exploration by bicycle. They had thought their friendship would last forever. Yet, one afternoon, a minor misunderstanding happened, taking a toll on their relationship.
This was what had happened. They joined in an important science project whose results would count towards their credits. Olivia, a careful planner, had devoted the whole afternoon to preparing their presentation alone in the quiet classroom. Her fingers danced swiftly and skillfully on the keyboard while she organized slides and typed notes. Every slide contained solid arguments and carefully selected pictures, which reflected her great efforts. As dusk fell, her anxiety built up minute by minute. She glanced at the clock repeatedly. Clara was late again. The empty chair next to her seemed to laugh at her, leaving her feeling lonely as well as annoyed.
Clara finally dashed in, out of breath and upset, trying to explain the reason. “I’m so sorry, but my...” she started, only to be interrupted by Olivia, whose patience had worn thin. “Troubles keep popping up for you! Have you ever thought about the influence your behavior has on others?”
At the sound of her sharp remarks, Clara who had meant to apologize, froze at once. “You are always taking charge of everything! It’s exhausting to try to live up to your strict perfect standards!” she shouted back angrily. The atmosphere in the room grew heavy, hard to breathe, filled with hurt emotions and wounded pride. They gathered their books in angry silence. The unfinished project stood for the cracked bond of their friendship. Neither girl dared to utter a single word as they headed home, both trapped in bitter disappointment.
注意:
续写词数应为150左右;
请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

That night, Olivia lay in bed, worried about their relationship and the project.

【答案】4. B 5. D 6. D 7. C

【答案】8. D 9. D 10. C 11. A

【答案】12. A 13. B 14. B 15. C

【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Mythos is not necessarily capable of finding vulnerabilities that a human wouldn’t, but it’s just so much faster, thorough and relentless. Hence, it’s finding vulnerabilities that humans have missed.(Mythos未必能找到人类发现不了的漏洞,但是它速度更快、排查更全面且不知疲倦,因此它能够发现人类遗漏的漏洞。)”可知,Alan Woodward认为Mythos是一种工作效率高的工具。
【答案】16. E 17. A 18. C 19. F 20. G

I hope this e-mail finds you well. I’ve heard you plan to stay up late to watch the 4th Youth Olympic Games in Senegal. I think you’d better not. Reasons are as follows.
Firstly, staying up late will exhaust you, making it hard to focus on your lessons in the daytime. Worse still, lack of sleep harms your physical health. Instead, you can watch recorded highlights in your spare time or enjoy replays on weekends.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Paragraph 2:
The next day, Clara arrived early at the cafe as promised.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
That night, Olivia lay in bed, worried about their relationship and the project. The bitter quarrel echoing in her mind, Olivia tossed and turned. She thought about how she had cut Clara off impatiently without letting her explain. She also thought of the half-finished slides, where Clara had contributed many creative ideas. Worse still, it was her own pursuit of perfection that had hurt the person who cared about her most. With a heavy heart, she picked up her phone and sent a message to Clara, making an appointment to meet at their usual cafe the next morning.
The next day, Clara arrived early at the cafe as promised. She looked exhausted, her usual bright smile gone like the sun disappearing behind clouds. Upon seeing Olivia, she explained immediately, “My bicycle broke down on the way. I had tried hard to walk to the school.” Hearing her words, Olivia apologized with guilt, “I’m sorry for being too harsh and rude.” Relieved and regretful, they hugged each other tightly. That whole day, they worked on the project with renewed cooperation. It dawned on them that true friendship needs communication and mutual understanding.
