In a village a few kilometres from the West Flanders coast,Nele Bekaert fetches one of several Brabant horses
that her family owns.Weighing about a ton,the powerful horse is ideal for pulling a drag net to catch tiny, grey
shrimp (in the North Sea.Bekaert rides the horse to the seaside of Oostduinkerke,Belgium.
Upon arrival, she puts on bright yellow waterproof overalls and ties ropes and a large net behind the horse. Two
baskets are placed at the animal's sides.Bekaert skillfully seats herself between the baskets. She leads the horse into
the sea until the water reaches the top parts of its legs and they slowly move parallel to the coastline, causing a unique
scene.A metal chain attached to the front of the net over the sand, creating"shockwaves"that cause shrimp to jump
into the net, while water pressure pushes the catch to the back.
After about 30 minutes,Bekaert and her"co-worker"retur to shore. She empties the net, washes and sorts the
catch, keeping shrimp and fish that are fully grown, while releasing the small-sized shrimp and baby crabs back into
the sea. This helps maintain biodiversity and prevents the unintentional capture of non-target species.
Bekaert is part of a team of 14 active horseback shrimp fishers, formerly known as East Dunkirk Horse Fishers.
Each year in Oostduinkerke, they give 36 public demonstrations and participate in a Shrimp Festival, events funded
by the govemment to keep the craft alive.
Nowadays, the old-fashioned method has been entirely replaced by commercial development except in
Oostduinkerke. That is thanks to former mayor (Honore Loones, who saved horseback shrimp fishing from
extinction in 1950 by making it a tourist attraction with the first Shrimp Festival. The craft has been supported by the
goverment ever since.

Start reading recent internet conversations about Al,and you'll find a topic that surfaces with increasing
frequency:ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical advice.
"Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,"begins one such
account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New York. After an exchange with ChatGPT,it told
her,"You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.""What followed was a terrible three day
experience that got increasingly scary,"says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune
disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent.
Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness advice, according to its
maker,OpenAI.In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform,ChatGPT Health,
which it says offers enhanced-security for sharing medical records and data.It joins other AI tools sueh as My
Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care.
Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily management of health as a
complement()to advice from medical professionals.Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage
symptoms and treatment for the cancer he's been diagnosed with.He frequently shows AI test results and
asks it to translate them into comprehensible English.Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with
his doctor."When I go into a doctor's appointment,I no longer need him to explain much to me,"he says.
"My doctor's appointment is much more of an action-planning session."
Of course,Al is not a replacement for a doctor.Doctors say that without clinical oversight(),
misdiagnosis, misleading advice,or human misunderstanding are significant problems.Despite these hazards,
they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will
eventually outweigh the dangers,if they don't already.
28.What does Bethany Crystal's case in paragraph 2 indicate?
A.The popularity of ChatGPT.
B.The significance of regular checkups.
C.The lack of medical knowledge.
D.The value of Al-aided medical diagnosis.

30.What impact has AI brought to Rosen?
A.It improves the cure rate for his disease.
B.It reduces his trust in medical personnel
C.It offers him real-time translation at the doctor's.
D.It changes the way he communicates with his doctor.
31.What does the underlined word "hazards"in paragraph 5 mean?

Dipterocarp, the tallest tropical (tree;can top 100 metres.A giant absorbs more sunlight than
nearby trees, yet height has a price:the taller a tree, the harder it is to lift water to its top.Scientists assumed
that giants would suffer most in droughts, but a new study found that dipterocarps adjust their water system
and leaf chemistry, making the tallest no more drought-sensitive than shorter ones.
A tree's trunk contains tubes (called xylem that carry water from roots to leaves, but it is far
from simple.Trees rely on evaporation (from leaves to draw water upward through the xylem.
Meanwhile, water particles (stick to one another and to the xylem walls, keeping the chain from
breaking. As trees grow taller, howeyer, two problems emerge.Gravity can break the water chain, creating air
pockets that block flow.Worse still, friction ()against the tube walls builds,up and slows the rise.
This led scientists to predict that giants like dipterocarps would suffer most in droughts.Yet actual data
were missing, because reaching the top requires experienced climbers.A team led by Paulo Bittencourt joined
such climbers in a Southeast Asian rainforest, where 38 dipterocarps were measured and 27 were tracked for
770 days,a period that included a six-month drought.
The results were striking. Each tree's xylem widened from tip to base, lowering resistance near the ground,
and in the tallest trees the widening extended far beyond what simple scaling would predict.Their topmost
leaves held higher concentrations (of osmolytes-chemicals that stabilize cells under water stress,
making them less likely to dry out. These adaptations meant height has nothing to do with reduced growth in
the drought.
The finding that these giants are more drought-resistant than expected matters greatly since the tallest 1%
of trees store over half of a forest's carbon."These trees are rare and important, and their water systems are
perfectly evolved for their height,"said Paulo Bittencourt, the study's lead author. This signals that previous
climate models based on the assumption that giants would suffer most in future droughts need correcting.
32.How does the author introduce the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By quoting an expert.
B.By providing statistics.
C.By presenting a contrast.
D.By explaining a concept.
33.How do dipterocarps survive drought?
A.They clear air pockets with leaf chemicals.
B.They adjust both water flow and leaf chemistry.
C.They widen their xylem at the top.
D.They grow their roots deeper in drought.
高二10月英语月考卷第3
34.What does the author mean by mentioning climate models in Paragraph 5?
A.They need more forest carbon data.
B.They show forests face greater drought.
C.They fail to explain trees'water transport.
D.They may overestimate giants'drought risk.
35.What oan be a suitable title for the text?
A.How Xylem Widens in Forest Giants
B.Why Forest Giants Survive Droughts
C.How Trees Move Water to Their Leaves
D.Why Tall Trees Suffer Most in Droughts

Picture this:everyone's gathered around the table, plates full, but half the family stares at glowing
screens instead of each other's faces. This scene plays out in countless homes across America every single
night. What started as occasional phone checks has evolved into overall device dependency 'that follows
families right to their dining table.
Remember when meals meant storytelling, laughter, and actual eye contact?36
Before smartphones existed, families naturally gathered around the dining table to share their day,
discuss plans, and enjoy each other's company.
37 Research shows that the average American family spends less than 20 minutes eating dinner
together, with much of that time spent interacting with screens. The cell phone transformed from a
communication tool into a dining companion.38 Unlike real conversation, screens demand attention
without giving anything meaningful back to the family dynamic.
The physical health consequences:are equally concerning.Mindless eating becomes the norm when
attention splits between food and screens.People eat faster, chew less, and often consume more calories
without realizing it.39
Creating a phone-free zone can transform food time from a rushed obligation into genuine family time
that everyone looks forward to.When screens disappear from the table, something magical happens:People
start noticing each other again.40 Even the food tastes better when everyone is fully engaged in what
they're eating.
A.Frankly,it's not great company.
B.Those days weren't that long ago.
C.That dinner wasn't unique,and that's the problem.
D.Dinner conversations teach children essential skills.
E.Technology has slowly but surely entered our dining spaces.
F.Conversations flow more naturally and laughtercomes more easily
G.This habit contributes to poor digestion and unhealthy eating patterns.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily loved fixing things. Her father,a mechanic, had been teaching her to repair radios and toys since
she was little. She would spend weekends working on old machines in her small bedroom, finding comfort in
the rhythms of tools and gears ()The clicking of gears and the tuming of wheels made her forget
everything else.At school,however,she stayed quiet.Emma,a smart girl with a sharp tongue,often singled
her out, rolling her eyes whenever Lily tried to voice her opinion.
One day,while cleaning the.science lab,Lily accidentally knocked over Emma's model car,on which
she had spent weeks, breaking it into pieces on the floor."My modelcar! You should have been more careful!"
she screamed at Lily.Red-faced,Lily apologized and rushed out, fighting back her tears.
Two weeks later, when their teacher announced a robotics competition, the whole class came alive.
"You'll work in pairs to build a robot that can get through a hard path."Emma was excited about building a
robot, which was her long-held hobby. However, when she learned that Lily was her partner, she turned away,
avoiding Lily's eager eyes.
"Well,I can make it all,"Emma whispered. She tumed to her notebook and focused on her design. In the
following days, she simply ignored Lily's attempts to approach, let alone their pair meetings as scheduled.
Sensing Emma's unwillingness to cooperate,Lily decided to work on her own.She spent quite a lot of
time sketching designs in the quiet lab.One afternoon,as she worked late, she noticed a half-built robot
sitting in the corner, something Emma had started but left unfinished. She looked closer and froze. The wires

Ranking My Spare Time Priorities
To maximize limited spare moments,I rank reflection first, reading second, and relaxation third.
I put reflection above all because it helps me learn from past mistakes and plan ahead.A few minutes of
silent thinking can save hours of repeated errors.Reading comes second-it broadens my horizons without
demanding much mental effort.Relaxation ranks last, restoring energy rather than creating value, making it
less significant than reflection and reading.
The key, after all, lies not in keeping busy, but in making every spare minute count.

Emma stood still in the doorway, eyes wide in surprise."What are you doing with my robot?"she
demanded.Lily stepped back."I wasn't messing it up!Look, the red and black wires are connected wrongly.
If turned on,the circuit will overload and explode."Emma hesitated, then bent down to check the wires. Her
face turned pale."You're right.I was careless."She glanced at Lily uneasily."Why would you help me
after what I did?"Lily smiled."Because we're partners.And I love fixing things."
On competition day, they presented a robot marked with their names. It moved through the obstacle
course smoothly, turning corners with precision and avoiding barriers. The audience cheered.Although they
didn't win first place, they earned a special award for "Best Collaboration."Emma whispered,"Sorry for
how I treated you.You're amazing."Lily grinned."You're a brilliant designer.We make a great team."
From that day on,they became inseparable friends.Lily found her voice, and Emma learned that true
strength lies in trusting and lifting each other up.
读后续写(AI范文)
Emma stood still in the doorway, eyes wide in surprise.Seeing Lily's hand near her half-finished robot,
Emma's face burned with anger. She thought Lily was ruining her design and shouted at her loudly.Calmly,
Lily pointed out the wrongly-connected wires and warned it might explode once powered on.Doubtful but
uneasy,Emma checked the wires carefully and realized Lily was right.A wave of guilt swept over her.She
apologized for ignoring Lily before and was willing to combine their ideas. They cooperated closely
afterwards, adjusting structures and testing functions repeatedly.
On competition day,Emma and Lily presented a robot marked with their names.Their robot moved
flexibly and overcame all obstacles smoothly, winning loud cheers.Though they didn't get the first prize,
they gained far more.Emma admired Lily's practical repairing skills while Lily became more confident to
express herself at school. The accident turned out to be a precious chance for them to build true friendship

W:I'm on my own. It's up to me
W:I have.There are many openings.
M:I suggest you pursue the career you like most.
M:Do you think it is wise to change your major after you've studied for two years already?
W:Well, many of the courses I've taken for a Computer Programming degree are valuable for a Computer
Technology degree
M:That's true. How about your parents?Do they agree with you?
M:If I were you,I would find out how many job openings there are for computer technologies.
W:But I can't.I've never taken courses in Computer Technology. How can I compare the two?
M:You'd better take a few courses in Computer Technology first, and then you can decide afterwards
W:That's a good idea.
M:Then,I suggest you should make arrangements to take two courses in Computer Technology
immediately.

M:Id like to go to America, but I don't know if I can get a visa
W:Do you have any other ideas?
M:Ive heard that Germany is nice too.
W:Do you speak German?
M:A little,but I'm willing to learn it.
M:Oh.Well, can you tell me how to apply for my visa?
W:You're right in considering different countries because of the visa. But I suggest you think about why you
want to study abroad. If you want to improve your English skills,it would be best to go to a native
English-speaking country.England,Canada,America, and Australia are the most popular countries for
studying abroad.
W:First,I think you should look into some schools and apply. If you are accepted, then the universities will
offer you some guidance on applying for the visa.
M:When should I send my application forms in?
W:Do it as early as possible.Over the summer, you can do some research on the schools. Then, you can
send out for application forms in September.Try to send them back to the schools by December. That will
give you plenty of time to sort out the visas.
Text 10
W:I always dreamed of opening my own restaurant.I always loved cooking. So when it came:time for
college,I knew that the cooking institute was definitely the place for me,although a lot of my friends went to
study computer and my father wanted me to study science. And when I graduated,I couldn't wait to get
started.Well, that was probably my first mistake.I didn't go slowly.I picked a building for my restaurant in
a residential neighborhood.I took great efforts in decoration. But the parking in the neighborhood was really
difficult.I didn't have enough regular customers, because people didn't really drive by and see it.At first,I
thought it was great not to have any competition, but I realize now that another restaurant or two would have
brought people into the area.My other mistake was that I wanted to serve only the best and use organic food.
Well, the problem with that was I had to charge a lot of money for the meals. That didn't help business either.
If I had only known then what I know now!
