I am a psychotherapist (心理治疗师) who works with worried, anxious parents, and spends my days writing about why we struggle to find calm. I also used to pick up my phone hundreds of times a day, failing to realize that it was making me a busier, more impatient, and less present mother.
I started paying attention to what happened in my body when one of my children, Tom, asked me a question and interrupted (打断) me while I was looking through my phone. I felt very angry and heard a sharpness in my voice. I had been treating this problem as a patience problem, but what I realized was that I was addicted to my phone. When I thought about how much time I spent on my phone, I felt ashamed. That figure wasn’t just data; it showed the gap between the available mother I wanted to be and the one I was in those moments.
Then I decided that I would not access social media or my email at home during the day. Now, when the kids settle in front of the television in the evening, I read a book. Being spoken to mid-chapter doesn’t lead to stress in the same way. I’d forgotten what it felt like to be bored, a state in which peace settles in and ideas surface. And this change has also improved my relationship with my husband. Much of our evenings together had been sitting side by side on our phones. Now, I’m more available. We talk more, sharing something happening over our days. We give each other more undivided attention, which is the most valuable thing.
Reducing the time I spent on my phone has deepened my most important relationships, and that is no small thing. These moments are so special, and now I’m fully present for them.
4. Why was the author angry when Tom asked a question?
A. She was troubled by her work.
B. She couldn’t answer his question.
C. She didn’t want to miss important information.
D. She was not willing to put her phone down.
5. What did the author do as a change?
A. She avoided social media during the day.
B. She stopped using her phone to deal with work.
C. She replaced screen time with outdoor activities.
D. She read books to her children in the evening.
6. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Optimistic and easy-going. B. Reflective and determined.
C. Humorous and ambitious. D. Intelligent and polite.
7. What message does the author want to convey?
A. Digital habits reshape real-life connections.
B. It is hard to be a patient and present mother.
C. Working at home harms family relationships.
D. Surfing on social media is a waste of time.
D 5. A 6. B 7. A
根据第二段中的“I started paying attention to what happened in my body when one of my children, Tom, asked me a question and interrupted (打断) me while I was looking through my phone. I felt very angry and heard a sharpness in my voice.I had been treating this problem as a patience problem, but what I realized was that I was addicted to my phone.(当我的一个孩子汤姆在我翻看手机时向我提问、打断了我,我开始留意自己身体的反应。我当时十分生气,听出自己的声音带着尖锐的火气。我一直把这个问题当成耐心不足的问题,但我意识到自己对手机上瘾了。)”可知,作者沉迷手机,不愿意放下手机,所以孩子打断她时她会生气。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Then I decided that I would not access social media or my email at home during the day.(于是我决定,白天在家时不刷社交媒体、不看邮件。)”
根据第二段中的“When I thought about how much time I spent on my phone, I felt ashamed. That figure wasn’t just data; it showed the gap between the available mother I wanted to be and the one I was in those moments.(当我想到自己花在手机上的时间时,我感到羞愧。这个数字不只是数据,它展现出我想成为的贴心妈妈和那一刻真实的自己之间的差距。)”以及第三段中的“Then I decided that I would not access social media or my email at home during the day.(于是我决定,白天在家时不刷社交媒体、不看邮件。)”
根据最后一段中的“Reducing the time I spent on my phone has deepened my most important relationships, and that is no small thing.(减少手机使用时间加深了我最重要的人际关系,这是一件很重要的事。)”
C
Writing is hard. For author Franz Kafka, putting words on the page was a process of “unending pains”. Now AI has come to the rescue. Large language models (LLMs) eagerly offer large amounts of text without any pain or suffering.
AI writing is getting closer to human writing. Compared to an essay that is produced by humans, we found that some of AI’s former tricks — using lots of em-dashes (破折号), for instance — are no longer leveraged much in its writing.
It’s a good thing that AI writing is getting better. If LLMs keep improving, in a few years they could be as good as professional wordsmiths. But in the meantime, the essay written by AI may be a mess, so we need to put stress on editing skills. After all, even the best writers need a good editor to keep them sharp.
Novelist George R. R. Martin once said the job of editors is to “cut down the wings” of writers, and “tell them in which direction to fly”. When it comes to LLMs, that means giving clear instructions about exactly what you want, and asking them to improve their output as many times as necessary. You’ll get less pushback (抗拒) from machines than humans. Mr. Martin said editors were “the writer’s natural enemy”. AI would probably say “great observation”!
AI writers will make mistakes and offer phrases that sound good but mean nothing. And AI tends to use the “rule of three” — a rhetorical (修辞的) technique that arranges three parallel parts to create rhythm (韵律) — far more than humans. But whereas we try to group three sensible bits of advice, AI offers such long but meaningless sentences as: “The mystery has been solved — not partially, not ambiguously, but definitively.” Such lines should be cut — definitively.
“Write drunk, edit awake,” goes the old writers’ motto. If that’s right, then in an AI-human writing team, the AI will take the light and enjoyable part — pouring out words effortlessly. Human editors remain important to turn rough AI drafts into thoughtful, meaningful writing.
8. What does the underlined word “leveraged” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Avoided. B. Improved. C. Criticized. D. Employed.
9. What can be known about editing skills from paragraph 3?
A. They have long been ignored. B. They are especially important.
C. They will become unnecessary. D. They focus primarily on grammar.
10. What might the author agree with based on the last paragraph?
A. Human editors should be more patient.
B. AI should give human writers more fun.
C. Editing AI writing demands much effort.
D. AI can overcome the boredom of editing.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. Why AI Writing Needs Human Editors
B. What Helps AI Writing to Gain More Popularity
C. How AI Writers Become as Good as Human Writers
D. How AI Writing Reduces the Pains of Human Writers
D 9. B 10. C 11. A
根据画线词的上文“Compared to an essay that is produced by humans, we found that some of AI’s former tricks — using lots of em-dashes (破折号), for instance (和人类写的文章相比,我们发现AI以前的一些惯用手法——比如大量使用破折号)”可知,大量使用破折号是AI以前的惯用手法,这类手法现在不再经常被使用,画线词意思和Employed“使用”接近。
根据第三段中“But in the meantime, the essay written by AI may be a mess, so we need to put stress on editing skills. After all, even the best writers need a good editor to keep them sharp. (但与此同时,由AI写的文章可能杂乱无章,因此我们需要重视编辑能力。毕竟,即便是最优秀的作家,也需要一位优秀的编辑来保持写作的水准。)”可知,AI文稿质量不稳定,编辑能力仍十分重要。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“If that’s right, then in an AI-human writing team, the AI will take the light and enjoyable part — pouring out words effortlessly. Human editors remain important to turn rough AI drafts into thoughtful, meaningful writing. (如果这没错,那么在人机写作团队里,AI承担轻松愉快的那部分工作——毫不费力地输出文字。人类编辑依旧十分关键,要把粗糙的AI初稿打磨成有思想、有内涵的文字。)”可知,AI负责轻松的输出,把粗糙初稿变成优质文章依靠人类编辑,这意味着作者会同意“编辑AI写的文稿需要很多努力”的观点。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是文章最后一句“Human editors remain important to turn rough AI drafts into thoughtful, meaningful writing. (人类编辑依旧十分关键,要把粗糙的AI初稿打磨成有思想、有内涵的文字。)”可知,文章指出AI可以轻松生成文字,但产出存在缺陷,需要人类编辑去修改、引导、润色,所以“为什么AI写作离不开人类编辑”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。
D
Names are considered a human universal. Regardless of the language or culture, every human population has a naming system that labels individual members of the group. It’s thought that our various naming systems have developed because we live in large and complex social groups — and within such large communities, it’s important that we can speak to specific individuals. For a long time, we thought names were unique to humans, but recent research suggests this is not the case. Indeed, a wide range of animals use names, too.
Scientists have found that both bottlenose dolphins and green-rumped parrotlets use “signature (标志) sounds” to identify themselves. These are unique noises that the dolphins develop when they’re newborn babies — making sure the sound is different from others’ in their social group — and that the parrotlet chicks learn from their parents in their first few weeks of life. The parrotlet parents use unique calls to speak to each chick and the chicks learn this particular call, which then becomes their signature sound. We know the calls between parents and children are similar not just due to genetics (遗传), as adopted chicks learn the calls that their unrelated parents give them.
While these signature sounds tend to stay stable throughout the animals’ lifetime, there is some flexibility. For example, when groups of male dolphins become close “friends”, they sometimes change their signature sounds, so they sound more similar. This is thought to strengthen social bonds and improve teamwork.
The special dolphin and parrot sounds function a little differently from how names work in humans. However, the function is similar — the signature sounds are unique to each individual and are used as a way to communicate with specific others.
What these species have in common is a complex social life. They live in large groups where they interact with the same individuals over and over again — sometimes, as in the case of elephants, for half a century or more. So it’s likely that these species have developed naming systems for the same reason as humans have: to help deal with the complexities of being super-social creatures.
12. What is the main feature of human naming system?
A. It strengthens family relationships. B. It identifies particular individuals.
C. It relies on shared social experience. D. It reflects differences among languages.
13. How do green-rumped parrotlets get their signature sounds?
A. They create them on their own. B. They are born with them.
C. They learn them from their parents. D. They copy unrelated adults.
14. What does the text say about dolphins?
A. Their sounds remain unchanged all the time.
B. Male ones change the sounds to show leadership.
C. Shifts in sounds may improve teamwork among them.
D. Female ones are less flexible compared with male ones.
15. Why does the author mention elephants in the last paragraph?
A. To compare elephant societies with other animal groups.
B. To explain how long the social interactions may last.
C. To suggest that elephants also possess signature sounds.
D. To prove that large animals live much longer.
B 13. C 14. C 15. B
根据第一段中的“Regardless of the language or culture, every human population has a naming system that labels individual members of the group. It’s thought that our various naming systems have developed because we live in large and complex social groups — and within such large communities, it’s important that we can speak to specific individuals.(无论语言或文化如何,所有人类群体都有命名体系来标记群体里的个体。人们认为多样的命名体系是因我们生活在庞大复杂的社群中形成的,在这类社群里,能够和特定个体交流十分重要。)”可知,人类命名体系的主要特点是识别特定的个体。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“These are unique noises that the dolphins develop when they’re newborn babies — making sure the sound is different from others’ in their social group — and that the parrotlet chicks learn from their parents in their first few weeks of life. The parrotlet parents use unique calls to speak to each chick and the chicks learn this particular call, which then becomes their signature sound. (这些是海豚在还是新生幼崽的时候发出的独特叫声——确保这个声音和它们族群里其他个体的声音不一样——同时也是绿腰鹦鹉雏鸟在生命最初几周里向父母学习的声音。绿腰鹦鹉父母用独特的叫声和每一只雏鸟交流,雏鸟学会这个特别的叫声,这个叫声随后就成为它们的标志性声音。)”可知,绿腰鹦鹉从父母那里习得标志性叫声。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“For example, when groups of male dolphins become close “friends”, they sometimes change their signature sounds, so they sound more similar. This is thought to strengthen social bonds and improve teamwork.(例如,当雄性海豚结成亲密的“伙伴”时,它们有时会改变标志性叫声,让彼此的声音更相近。人们认为这可以巩固社交联系、提升协作能力。)”可知,海豚叫声的改变有助于提升它们之间的团队协作。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“They live in large groups where they interact with the same individuals over and over again — sometimes, as in the case of elephants, for half a century or more.(它们生活在大群体中,反复和相同的个体互动,以大象为例,这种互动有时可以持续半个世纪甚至更久。)”
Taking care of someone else is a high-stress job, so you can expect that it may leave you feeling emotionally and physically tired. If you don’t find ways to refresh yourself, the result can be burnout, and that is bad for both you and those you care for. Burnout usually wears away your body and mind. ____16____ So as soon as you recognize that you’re nearing your limit, it’s time to take some steps to care for yourself. Here’s how.
____17____ Don’t be a hero! Reach out to family members — even if they’re not nearby, they can make insurance calls, order groceries, or help pay for a house cleaner. Caregiving is never meant to be done by one person — it’s a team sport.
Stick with your self-care. If hiking or getting coffee with a friend is your way to relax, arrange for someone else to take over for a couple of hours. ____18____ It can also allow you to better care for your loved ones later.
Keep in touch. ____19____ Sometimes even simply texting can help you stay connected to a wider world and feel less lonely. The opportunity to talk about your concerns or even just interact with others will help you stay energized.
Pat yourself on the back. You’re doing a good thing by stepping up for someone who needs it. So give yourself credit for making the choice to be there for your loved one. You’re not perfect and you can’t solve every problem, but you’re doing your best. ____20____
A. Ask for help.
B. Get practical suggestions.
C. In this way, you can rest your mind and body.
D. You can talk to friends by phone or video chat.
E. It also leaves you less able to care for your loved one.
F. You have done what you could, and your efforts are valuable.
G. If your loved one is a child, more patience and love are required.
E 17. A 18. C 19. D 20. F

Aisha had always been a hardworking and self-disciplined (自律的) student since childhood. Fully aware that her family led a simple and frugal (节俭的) life, she purposely stayed away from unnecessary entertainment and devoted almost all her spare time and energy to her studies, never complaining about the plain life she lived. Her father worked tirelessly as a delivery driver six days a week, rushing through crowded city streets in biting wind, heavy rain and the blazing sun, just to earn a small income for the family. Years of tiring work left his hands covered with thick dust and countless tiny injuries, yet he never said a word of complaint. Her mother earned a living by cleaning office buildings after dark, often working until midnight and returning home tired, her back aching from hours of labor.
Though the family lived on a tight budget and under tough living conditions, Aisha’s parents spared no effort to protect her from the pain of poverty. They tried their best to meet all her study and daily needs, and carefully prepared her lunch every day with sincere care and tenderness, making sure she never felt left behind by her classmates. Deeply loving their daughter, the couple firmly believed that her consistent hard work and determination would surely pay off and brighten her future.
As the long-expected university acceptance letter finally came, the whole family burst with joy, tears of joy running down the parents’ weathered faces. Unfortunately, the high tuition (学费) and accommodation fees quickly clouded their happiness. They could hardly afford the high fees, which brought a heavy financial burden to the family. However, Aisha and her parents refused to give up this hard-won opportunity.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That night, the family gathered for a serious conversation. Her father said firmly that they would support her university dream. He decided to take more delivery orders even on weekends, while her mother planned to work extra night shifts. Aisha, who was deeply moved, promised that she would apply for a scholarship and find a part-time job during the summer vacation to earn some tuition. They made a detailed plan together. Over the summer, the plan worked out perfectly. Her parents worked tirelessly, and Aisha earned quite a lot from her part-time job. Together with her parents’ hard-earned money, they covered the tuition fees.
A month later, Aisha stood joyfully at the entrance of the university. She felt grateful, because her parents’ endless efforts had paved the way for her future. Holding her father’s rough hands, she promised to study hard and make them proud. She knew this was not only her success but also the reward for her parents’ tireless efforts, which encouraged her to move forward bravely. She took a deep breath, stepped onto the campus, and told herself that she would never let her parents down.

A. It strengthens family relationships. B. It identifies particular individuals.

A. They create them on their own. B. They are born with them.
