阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
My grandmother keeps an old photo album under her bed. Last weekend, she showed it to me. "Look, this was our village forty years ago," she said, pointing at a black-and-white photo. In the photo, there were only low houses and muddy roads. People carried water from a well, and children studied in a classroom with a leaking roof.
Then she turned to a photo taken ten years ago. My grandmother was standing in front of a new school. "The government built new roads, schools and a water station, and we finally had clean water," she said with a smile.
The newest photo was taken on my grandmother's eightieth birthday this year. In it, she was video-calling a friend in Beijing on a smartphone. "Your generation is so lucky," she said. "But remember, all these changes came from people's hard work."
I looked at the three photos for a long time. They are not just pictures; they are the story of our country's development.
36. What was the village like forty years ago?
A. It had tall buildings.
B. It had muddy roads and low houses.
C. It had clean water everywhere.
D. It had many smartphones.
37. What happened ten years ago according to the second photo?
A. A new school was built.
B. Grandma moved to Beijing.
C. Grandma bought a smartphone.
D. The village had a big flood.
38. What does the writer think of the photo album?
A. It is too old to read.
B. It is just a boring picture book.
C. It tells the story of the country's development.
D. It should be thrown away.
Why do we forget things, and how can we remember better? Scientists have found some interesting answers.
First, our brains choose what to remember. Every day, we receive far more information than we can store, so the brain keeps only what seems important. That is why you may forget what you ate last Tuesday, but you still remember your first day at school.
Second, sleep plays a big role. When we sleep, the brain "plays back" the day's experiences and moves important information into long-term memory. Students who sleep well after studying often do better in tests than those who stay up late.
Third, using information helps us keep it. If you learn a new English word today, try to use it in a conversation tomorrow. The more you use it, the stronger the memory becomes.
So next time you complain about your "bad memory", remember: memory is not a gift that only some people have. It is a skill that everyone can train.
39. Why do we forget what we ate last Tuesday?
A. Because our brains keep only what seems important.
B. Because we ate too much that day.
C. Because the food was not delicious.
D. Because our brains are too small.
40. What does the brain do when we sleep?
A. It stops working completely.
B. It moves important information into long-term memory.
C. It deletes all the day's experiences.
D. It makes us feel tired.
41. What does the writer advise us to do with a new English word?
A. Write it a hundred times.
B. Forget it as soon as possible.
C. Use it in a conversation.
D. Stay up late to remember it.
42. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Bad Memory Is a Serious Illness
B. Memory Is a Skill We Can Train
C. The Importance of Sleep
D. How to Eat Healthily
Some students spend hours at their desks every night, but their grades don't improve. Others seem to study less and still do well. What makes the difference? Scientists say the secret lies in how we learn, not how long we learn.
Here are three scientifically proven ways to study better. First, test yourself. Instead of reading the same page again and again, close your book and try to write down what you remember. Testing yourself may feel harder, but it helps knowledge stay in your brain much longer.
Second, space out your study. It is better to study a subject for twenty minutes every day than for three hours the night before a test. Short, regular practice gives your brain time to process what you have learned.
Third, teach others. When you explain a problem to a classmate, you have to organize your thoughts clearly. If you can teach it, you truly understand it.
Learning how to learn may be the most useful lesson of all. As one wise teacher says, "Give a student a fish, and he eats for a day; teach him how to learn, and he benefits for life."
43. According to the text, what really makes a difference in study?
A. How long we study.
B. How we study.
C. Where we study.
D. How much homework we do.
44. What does "space out your study" mean in the text?
A. Study in a large space.
B. Study harder before tests.
C. Spread study time over days.
D. Study with friends outside.
45. Why is teaching others helpful?
A. Because it makes you popular.
B. Because you have to organize your thoughts clearly.
C. Because classmates will thank you.
D. Because it takes less time.
46. What does the teacher's saying at the end tell us?
A. Fish is good for the brain.
B. Students should eat fish every day.
C. Learning methods are more valuable than single answers.
D. Teachers should give students more fish.

My hometown has changed a lot in the past few years.
In the past, it used to be a small town with narrow roads and low houses. People often went to town by bike because there was no bus.
But now great changes have taken place. Wide roads have been built, and tall buildings can be seen everywhere. A beautiful park has appeared near my home, and people like to take a walk there after dinner. What's more, many families have their own cars, and we can travel to other cities by high-speed train easily.
I'm proud of the changes in my hometown. I will study hard so that I can make it more beautiful in the future.
【范文亮点】
① 时态运用准确:过去用 used to be / went,变化用 have taken place / have been built / has appeared(现在完成时及其被动式),完全覆盖 Unit 1 和 Unit 5 核心语法。

Now let me tell you about Mr. Wang, a teacher in a mountain village. Ten years ago, Mr. Wang came to the village school after he left college. At that time, the school had only two old classrooms, and many children had to walk two hours to school. Mr. Wang used his own money to buy books for the students. He also taught the children to use the Internet to learn about the outside world. Slowly, great changes have taken place. With the help of the government and kind people, the village has built a new school with bright classrooms and a computer room. More and more children have gone to college, and some of them have returned to the village as teachers, just like Mr. Wang. "Education is the best gift we can give to children," Mr. Wang often says. He has spent ten years there, and he says he will stay longer.
