At first, nobody in the expedition could see the whales. There was simply water blowing out of the sea in the distance and a faint sound on the wind. Our expedition leader announced over the loudspeakers: “There is a group of whales about a kilometer ahead, come out to have a look.”
We had traveled to Greenland to see a total solar eclipse (日全食), making the group stand in awe as the moon hid the face of the sun with the sky growing dark during the day. I thought that would be the most astonishing thing I’d witnessed during the two-week voyage. But I was wrong.
Since 2000, the population of baleen whales(须鲸) has exploded in eastern Greenland. This is because the ice that used to cover the coast, making it inaccessible to whales, has melted significantly, while at the same time the warmer water in the area has brought in considerable small fish consumed by baleen whales.
That was precisely what we saw. As each whale neared the surface, it would first blow into the sky, then turn on its side, opening its mouth to take in water. The entire front part of the whale turned from a smooth triangular (三角形的) shape into a swelling, waving bag of seawater when it shut its mouth. The next part of this so-called

lunge-feeding behaviour happened under water, where we couldn’t see it, but the water rushed out through the whale’s baleen, leaving the tiny creatures trapped inside.
When I finally wandered down towards lunch — how strange to follow such an experience of nature’s great beauty with something as ordinary as a lunch-buffet — everyone I met was glassy-eyed, much as we had been in the moments after the eclipse. The expedition crew all said they had never seen anything like it. I spotted more than a few tears myself. You can bet that I will be back, even without a total solar eclipse to attract me north.

Flipped (翻转的) learning, also known as the flipped classroom, is an instructional strategy that is going viral in primary education. This innovative approach involves switching the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom before class. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom.
The concept of flipped learning was initially popularized by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams, two high school science teachers who discovered that by recording their lectures, students could learn at their own pace. Since then, the model has drawn the attention of educators around the world and has been adapted successfully to younger students in primary schools.
In primary classrooms, flipped learning has demonstrated numerous benefits. It creates a learning environment
