The fish he eventually catches is so big that it pulls the boat for two whole days and nights. Despite being wounded and exhausted, Santiago battles to hold the line that holds the fish. On the third day, the fish finally tires, allowing Santiago to kill it with a harpoon (鱼叉). But the blood from the fish attracts sharks, which Santiago bravely fights throughout the day and night. Although he succeeds in killing some of the sharks, yet more of these predators appear. The shark closed fast and its head was out of the water and the old man could hear the noise of flesh ripping (撕裂、划破) on the big fish when the old man rammed (猛扎) the harpoon down onto the shark’s head at a spot where the line between his eyes intersected with the line that ran straight back from his nose. There were no such lines. But that was the location of the brain and the old man hit it. He hit it with all his strength. He hit it without hope but with resolution and determined hostility. The shark swung over and the old man saw his eye was not alive and knew that he was dead. “He took about forty pounds,” the old man said aloud. He took my harpoon too and all the rope, he thought, and now my fish bleeds again and there will be more sharks. He did not like to look at the fish anymore since he had been mutilated When the fish had been hit it was as though he himself were hit. “But I killed the shark that hit my fish,” he thought. And he was the biggest dentuso that I have ever seen. “It was too good to last,” he thought. “I wish it had been a dream now and that I had never hooked the fish and was alone in bed on the newspapers.” But man is not made for defeat, he said. A man can be destroyed but not defeated. I am sorry that I killed the fish though, he thought. Now the bad time is coming and I do not even have the harpoon. The dentuso is cruel and able and strong and intelligent. But I was more intelligent than he was. Perhaps not; he thought. Perhaps I was only better armed. “Don’t think, old man,” he said aloud. “Sail on this course and take it when it comes.” But I must think, “Think about something cheerful, old man,” he said. “Every minute now you are closer to home. You sail lighter for the loss of forty pounds.” “Now,” he said. “I am still an old man. But I am not unarmed.” The breeze was fresh now and he sailed on well. He watched only the forward part of the fish and some of his hope returned. (Excerpt from The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway) 41. Why did sharks come to attack the big fish? A. Because the old man hit the shark on its head. B. Because the blood from the fish drew sharks. C. Because the sharks were following the boat for days. D. Because the big fish made loud noises in the water. 42. In the underlined part “I wish it had been a dream…”, “it” refers to________. A. the catching of fish and fighting sharks  B. his sailing far out to the sea alone C. the loss of his harpoon to the sharks  D. the tiredness and wounds on his hands 43. What made the old man regain some hope? A. He thought the sharks would not return. B. He found that the fish was still in good condition. C. He believed he would meet other fishermen soon. D. He believed he could sail on and return home safely. 44. What message does the passage convey? A. Man should give up in time when facing danger. B. Fishermen should not sail far out to sea alone. C. True man stays positive and never gives in. D. Complaining only makes things worse. 45. Why did the old man regret hooking the fish at one time? ①Because the shark he killed was the smartest in the world. ②The fish was torn by sharks and the gain was not satisfying. ③He regretted going out to sea alone without any helper. ④He was almost in despair and exhaustion. ⑤He has lost his harpoon and the rope. ⑥He knew more danger was coming. A. ②③⑥  B. ①④⑤  C. ①③④  D. ②⑤⑥ 【答案】41. B 42. A 43. D 44. C 45. 根据第一段中“But the blood from the fish attracts sharks, which Santiago bravely fights throughout the day and night.(但是鱼的血吸引了鲨鱼,圣地亚哥整日整夜勇敢地与鲨鱼搏斗。)” 根据第四段““But I killed the shark that hit my fish,” he thought. And he was the biggest dentuso that I have ever seen.(“但我杀死了袭击大鱼的那条鲨鱼。”他心想。那是我见过最大的灰鲭鲨。)”和第五段中“I wish it had been a dream now and that I had never hooked the fish and was alone in bed on the newspapers.(我希望现在it只是一场梦,我从来没有钓到过这条鱼,而是独自躺在报纸铺成的床上。)” 根据最后一段中“The breeze was fresh now and he sailed on well. He watched only the forward part of the fish and some of his hope returned.(现在微风清新,他航行得很好。他只看着鱼的前部,他的希望又回来了。)”以及倒数第三段“Every minute now you are closer to home. You sail lighter for the loss of forty pounds.(此刻的每一分钟,你都离家更近一步。因为少了四十磅的负重,你航行起来更加轻快。)”和倒数第二段““Now,” he said. “I am still an old man. But I am not unarmed.”(“现在,”他说。“我还是个老人。但我并非手无寸铁。”)”可知,老人相信自己能够继续航行并安全回家,这让他重新燃起了一些希望。 【44题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,并根据第五段中“But man is not made for defeat, he said. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.(但人不是为失败而生的,他说。一个人可以被毁灭,但不能被打败。)”可知,文章主要讲述了老渔夫圣地亚哥捕获大鱼后与鲨鱼搏斗的过程,尽管最终鱼被鲨鱼吃掉了,但他从未放弃,由此可知,文章传达了真正的男人保持积极,永不屈服的信息。 【45题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“He did not like to look at the fish anymore since he had been mutilated (残缺不全).(他再也不愿看那条鱼一眼,因为它已经残缺不全了)”,第五段中“Now the bad time is coming and I do not even have the harpoon. The dentuso is cruel and able and strong and intelligent.(现在坏日子来了,我甚至没有鱼叉。这条鲨鱼既残忍又能干,强壮又聪明。)”,第六段中“You sail lighter for the loss of forty pounds.(因为少了四十磅的负重,你航行起来更加轻快。)”以及倒数第二段““Now,” he said. “I am still an old man. But I am not unarmed.”(“现在,”他说。“我还是个老人。但我并非手无寸铁。”)”可知,老人后悔钓到这条鱼是因为鱼被鲨鱼撕咬,收获并不令人满意,而且他已经失去了鱼叉和绳子,并且他知道更多的危险即将来临。由此可知,②⑤⑥符合题意。 C A new study has found that breathing does more than just move air in and out of your lungs — it could even be used to identify who you are. Scientists at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science discovered that each person has a distinct breathing pattern, known as a nasal (鼻的) breathing “fingerprint” a unique pattern that reveals clues about a person’s physical and mental health. Notably, brain scientist Timna Soroka shared, “We were able to identify differences between less depressed and non-depressed individuals.” The researchers originally set out to better understand how our sense of smell works. In humans, the brain processes smell during inhalation (吸入), and this close connection between the brain and breathing led the team to wonder: could our breathing patterns reflect the way our brains are wired — and be unique to each of us? To explore this question, they developed a lightweight, wearable device that tracks nasal airflow continuously for 24 hours. The study, published in the journal Current Biology, tested 100 healthy young adults as they went about their regular routines — running, studying, resting, and more. The results showed breathing patterns can identify individuals with 96. 8 percent accuracy. “I thought it would be really hard to identify someone because everyone is doing different things,” said Soroka. “But it turns out their breathing patterns were remarkably distinct!” Beyond individual identification, the study also found clear links between breathing patterns and body mass index (BMI), sleep-wake cycles, and mental health traits such as anxiety and depression. For example, people who scored higher on anxiety tests tended to have shorter inhalation periods. Importantly, the researchers noted that they only know there is an association between breathing and mood, but they don’t know the cause-and-effect direction — whether feeling anxious changes breathing, or a certain breathing pattern causes anxiety. If the latter is true, changing how we breathe could potentially improve mood. However, the current device has drawbacks: it uses soft tubes under the nose that can be uncomfortable to wear and may slip during sleep, and it doesn’t track mouth breathing. The team is working on improving the device and further exploring the breathing-mood connection to unlock more practical applications. 46. Why is breathing “fingerprint” mentioned? A. To explain how the brain processes smell. B. To introduce a newly-invented tracking device. C. To show a link between breathing and depression. D. To stress the uniqueness of personal breathing pattern. 47. What does the underlined word in paragraph 2 mean? A. Connected. B. Powered. C. Controlled. D. Trained. 48. What can we infer about the relationship between breathing and mood? A. Changes in breath cure anxiety. B. Their exact relationship remains unclear. C. Anxiety always causes abnormal breathing. D. Breathing is responsible for negative mood. 49. What is a limitation of the current wearable device? A. It cannot track nasal airflow for 24 hours straight. B. It is too heavy to be worn during daily activities. C. It fails to monitor breathing through the mouth. D. It can only be used to test healthy young adults. 50. What is the main finding of this research? A. Our fingerprints tell a lot about our health. B. Breathing patterns link to identity and health. C. A groundbreaking device reveals mental health. D. Anxiety levels link to shorter inhalation periods. D 47. A 48. B 49. C 50. (一项新研究发现,呼吸的作用绝不仅仅是让空气在肺部进出——它甚至还能用来识别个人身份)”以及第四段“Beyond individual identification, the study also found clear links between breathing patterns and body mass index (BMI), sleep-wake cycles, and mental health traits such as anxiety and depression.(除了用于身份识别外,该研究还发现呼吸模式与身体质量指数、睡眠-觉醒周期以及焦虑、抑郁等心理健康特征之间存在明显关联)”可知,这项研究的主要发现是呼吸模式与身份识别和健康状况都存在关联。故选B。 D Earlier in 2025, I had dinner in D.C. with Jensen Huang (黄仁勋), the CEO of Nvidia. At one point, he said something that struck me: “Why is everyone here so negative?” He wasn’t referring to the economy or politics, but the dominant sentiment — fear of AI. This fear often stems from exaggerated concerns that it may become sentient (能感知的), escape human oversight, and pose physical or economic threats. The AI debate is dominated by two extremes: Doomers believe AI will destroy humanity; zealots believe it will save us. Both assume AI will surpass human intelligence and slip beyond human control — views rooted more in science fiction than in science, neglecting how innovation truly works. AI realism presents a third path: technology succeeds by improving lives. Innovations like the internet, cars, and antibiotics were widely adopted because they solved real problems. AI is likely to follow the same pattern. Much of today’s debate, however, risks impulsive regulation and exploits public anxiety about a technology we are only just beginning to understand. The debate’s core conflict — between doomers and zealots — relies on a false assumption: intelligence is a single, measurable scale that machines could one day dominate. In reality, human intelligence cannot be precisely defined or measured. Metrics (衡量指标) like IQ scores or diplomas are only rough approximations; qualities like empathy, judgment, and creativity cannot be captured in a test. Intelligence is more like a continually evolving spectrum (光谱), not a final destination. As human knowledge expands, so does our understanding of intelligence. What appears advanced today may be surpassed tomorrow, a pattern we see with each new generation of AI models. AI realism is built on humility. Human life is profoundly complex and still largely beyond our full comprehension. What defines humanity is immanence (内在性) — a qualitative, lived experience that cannot be captured by the quantitative metrics AI operates on. We are not defined by data, but by our ability to create, stumble (犯错), love, and learn. AI can replicate the Pietà in flawless marble (大理石) detail, but not the meaning and purpose Michelangelo embedded (嵌入) into the sculpture. AI debates often feel shallow because they are dominated by people with unrealistic expectations. Yes, AI brings risks, like jobs shift, but history shows such shifts lead to greater prosperity. AI isn’t here to replace us; it’s here to empower us. Like the steam engine or smartphones, it extends human reach. It will never replicate the chaos and creativity of human life because it wasn’t designed to. The question is whether we will meet it with paranoia (偏执) or perspective. 51. Which of the following correctly characterizes the two mainstream extreme views on AI? A. Both agree that AI’s evolution strictly follows the laws of scientific innovation. B. Optimists trust human control over AI while pessimists fear losing human oversight. C. Both ignore the real technological evolution and believe AI will surpass humans. D. Concerns arise more from politics and economy than from AI gaining consciousness. 52. What does AI realism emphasize as the basis for technological success? A. The ability to surpass human intelligence in all domains. B. The role of solving practical problems to improve daily life. C. The need to agree with extreme predictions about future tech. D. The priority of gaining political support over public adoption. 53. Which of the following best illustrates the author’s view on the future development of AI? A. The definition of intelligence will continue to evolve with AI. B. Intelligence tests will reliably show AI’s permanent superiority. C. Human-specific qualities will prevent AI surpassing humans. D. The measurement of intelligence will slow AI’s advancement. 54. Why does the author mention Michelangelo’s Pietà in Paragraph 5? A. To highlight AI’s technical limitations in copying artistic details. B. To stress human creativity holds great significance beyond its surface. C. To argue historical art should guide modern AI development priorities. D. To suggest AI will understand the purpose behind human masterpieces. 55. What attitude of the author is implied toward humanity’s response to AI? A. Believing paranoia will prevent AI reaching its potential. B. Urging immediate integration of AI into all life aspects. C. Advocating for reasonable engagement over fear or boast. D. Viewing AI as a neutral force unaffected by human perspective. 51. C 52. B 53. A 54. B 55. Human life is profoundly complex and still largely beyond our full comprehension.(人工智能的现实主义建立在谦逊的基础之上。 Family stories are amazing to me. You hear of family members long ago and by hearing about their stories, you can find timeless wisdom that can apply to your own life. I’ll never forget the story my mom told me about Grandma. Grandma cooked for a crew of 24 farmhands (农场工人) so most of her days were taken up cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a bunch of loud men coming in from hunting or farming. She took care of five children as well so her house was a busy little place, but where you would find Grandma the most would be in front of her stove, stirring a pot of something. The kids would run in and she’d give them a hug and then she’d go back to stirring. The men would come in and clean up all the biscuits and bacon and then she’d start on the next meal, once again standing and stirring at the stove. They’d tell her how wonderful her food was and then pour out their troubles to her as she listened and stirred. One time Ruth watched as the farmhands ate quickly and went back out to work, hearing all of them grumbling about their lives. Then one by one the children came in to tell Grandma their own worries. She would smile, give them some kind of advice, and keep stirring. Ruth watched sitting at the table and when everyone left she said, “Mother, how can you just sit there and stir? Everyone tells you how bad their life is and you just smile and stir? Why don’t you just tell them that you’ve had enough and you can’t take anymore? Do something… Stop stirring!” Grandma looked up at Ruth and smiled… and kept stirring. “Ruth, don’t you know that the stirring is very important? You see, when I’m stirring I’m putting all my thoughts and dreams into that pot. As everyone comes in and tells me about their life I put the love and positive thoughts into my pot and stir. Then when they eat it they have been given a pot full of hope. If we have any kind of problems I envision (想象) a solution and put it in my pot and stir. My stirring is what keeps me focusing on what is good in the world. So instead of worrying about all that is around me, I keep stirring knowing that all is well.” 56. What is the main idea of paragraph 2? (no more than 12 words) ____________________________________________________________ 57. What do the underlined words mean in Paragraph 4? (No more than 2 words) ____________________________________________________________ 58. How did Grandma respond to the children pouring out worries? (no more than 8 words) ____________________________________________________________ 59. Why did Grandma consider stirring important? (No more than 12 words) ____________________________________________________________ 60. How do you deal with other people’s negative emotions? Please explain in your own words. (no more than 20 words ) ____________________________________________________________ 【答案】56. Grandma spent most days cooking meals and stirring at the stove. OR: Grandma was always busy cooking meals and stirring at the stove. 57. Complaining about Talking about 58. She smiled, provided advice and kept stirring. OR: By smiling, offering advice and keeping stirring. 59. (Because) It helped create/spread love, hope and positive thoughts. 60. I stay patient, offer comfort, and sometimes share a small positive story to lighten their mood. 根据第二段“Grandma cooked for a crew of 24 farmhands (农场工人) so most of her days were taken up cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a bunch of loud men coming in from hunting or farming. She took care of five children as well so her house was a busy little place, but where you would find Grandma the most would be in front of her stove, stirring a pot of something.(奶奶为24名农场工人做饭,所以她的大部分时间都用来为一群打猎或务农归来的喧闹男人做早餐、午餐和晚餐。 根据第四段“One time Ruth watched as the farmhands ate quickly and went back out to work, hearing all of them grumbling about their lives. Then one by one the children came in to tell Grandma their own worries.(有一次,露丝看着农场工人快速吃完饭,然后回去工作,听到他们都在grumbling about自己的生活。 根据第四段“She would smile, give them some kind of advice, and keep stirring.(她会微笑着,给他们一些建议,然后继续搅拌)”可知,奶奶对孩子们倾诉烦恼的回应是微笑、提供建议并继续搅拌。 根据第五段“As everyone comes in and tells me about their life I put the love and positive thoughts into my pot and stir. Then when they eat it they have been given a pot full of hope. If we have any kind of problems I envision (想象) a solution and put it in my pot and stir. My stirring is what keeps me focusing on what is good in the world.(当每个人进来告诉我他们的生活时,我把爱和积极的想法放进锅里搅拌。 可根据自身观点回答,例如“I stay patient, offer comfort, and sometimes share a small positive story to lighten their mood. 你校英语社团正在围绕“We all know that ‘sticks and stones may break our bones’, but we should also be aware that words can hurt people, too.” We all know that “sticks and stones may break our bones”, but we should also be aware that words can hurt people, too. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 We all know that “sticks and stones may break our bones”, but we should also be aware that words can hurt people, too. Last month, my deskmate failed an important math exam. I saw him upset and meant to encourage him. However, I carelessly said that he was always slow at thinking and could never catch up. Hearing my words, he kept silent and avoided talking with me for weeks. Later, I realized my casual remarks hurt his self-confidence deeply. Even though I apologized sincerely, it took a long time for him to cheer up and rebuild our friendship. This experience teaches me a valuable lesson. Words carry great power. Positive words lift people up while rude or thoughtless comments leave lasting pain. Before we speak, we ought to think about others’ feelings. We should choose our words carefully and spread kindness instead of hurting others. However, I carelessly said that he was always slow at thinking and could never catch up. However, without much consideration, I told him that he was poor in thinking and was unlikely to make progress. 1】Hearing my words, he kept silent and avoided talking with me for weeks.(运用了现在分词短语作时间状语) 【高分句型 2】Even though I apologized sincerely, it took a long time for him to cheer up and rebuild our friendship.(运用了even though引导让步状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027年度第一学期高三年级10月学习质量检测(英语) 满分:150分 考试时长:120分钟 本试卷分为第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分,共150分,考试用时120分钟。 It’s also a good time to think about how our daily habits can strengthen our brains for life. Our brain controls everything we do: thinking, remembering, moving, and feeling. Caring for it supports our overall health and quality of life. Recently, the Global Council on Brain Health (GCBH) has found that brain health is deeply interconnected with physical health, mental well-being, and lifestyle choices. Here are four key pillars for brain health suggested by the GCBH, with practical steps you can take. Category Core Function Specific Suggestions Physical Exercise Boosts brain blood flow, enhances memory, promotes brain cell growth 1. 150 minutes of moderate exercise (walking/cycling) weekly; 2. Strength training 2-3 times a week; 3. Balance exercises (yoga/tai chi); 4. Stick to enjoyable activities Sleep Cleans the brain, consolidates memories, boosts attention & decision-making 1. Fixed sleep schedule (including weekends); 2. Relaxing bedtime routine (reading/meditation); 3. Avoid afternoon caffeine & screens before bed; 4. Keep bedroom cool, dark & quiet Nutrition Supports memory, protects brain function 1. More leafy greens, berries, nuts, fish & whole grains; 2. Limit processed food, sugar & salt; 3. Choose lean proteins (fish, beans, chicken); 4. Add brain foods (blueberries, walnuts) Mental Stimulation Keeps brain sharp, active & adaptable 1. Puzzles, new language, strategy games; 2. Frequent reading & educational podcasts; 3. New skills (gardening, drawing, coding); 4. Vary activities to train different brain areas You don’t need to change everything at once. Start with one small step: go to bed 20 minutes earlier, take a short walk, add a vegetable to your meal, or call a friend. Small, consistent actions lead to real improvements for your brain and overall health. 36. Based on the passage, what can we infer about the GCBH’s view on lifestyle? A. It has a significant connection with brain health. B. It is the only factor that affects mental health. C. It influences physical health more than mental health. D. It is less important than medical treatment for health. 37. Which one is a recommended practice for guaranteeing a better sleep? A. Avoiding digital devices shortly before sleeping. B. Keeping a flexible sleep schedule on weekends. C. Drinking a cup of strong tea while reading in bed. D. Making the bedroom warmly and brightly furnished. 38. Which nutritional strategy is recommended for brain health? A. Choosing fatty meat as the main protein source. B. Feeding on diets made up of berries and walnuts. C. Consuming more processed food for better taste. D. Prioritizing plant-based foods and quality proteins. 39. What can be inferred from the Mental Stimulation section? A. It is most suitable and practical for senior citizens. B. It boosts the brain’s adaptability to new challenges. C. It stimulates different parts of the brain to cooperate. D. It is considered less effective than physical exercise. 40. The passage is mainly written to ______. A. warn people about the potential risks of brain diseases B. advertise specially-designed activities for brain training C. inform and advise people on how to care for their brains D. criticize fast-paced modern lifestyles harming the brain B After 84 days without catching a single fish, an old fisherman, Santiago, sails far out to sea without his devoted Manolin. A. ②③⑥  B. ①④⑤  C. ①③④  D. ②⑤⑥ C A new study has found that breathing does more than just move air in and out of your lungs — it could even be used to identify who you are. D Earlier in 2025, I had dinner in D.C. with Jensen Huang (黄仁勋), the CEO of Nvidia. Family stories are amazing to me.
