More than five million children have been through it. Most primary schools offer the course, but teenagers and adults can book a place too. The three levels Level 1 takes place off the road, usually on the school playground. Riders learn to control the bike, to start and stop, and to look behind without wobbling. Level 2 moves onto quiet roads. The focus here is the real journey: passing parked cars, reading signs and road markings, and dealing with simple junctions and roundabouts. Level 3 is for busier roads. Riders plan and then ride a route they actually use — to school, to work, to a friend’s house — with an instructor following behind. Before you start Every bike must pass four checks, known as the ABCDs: Air (are the tyres hard?), Brakes (do both work?), Chain (is it oiled?) and Direction (are the handlebars and the seat fixed tight?). If you are unsure, a local shop will run through the checks for you. A helmet is recommended rather than required, but it should fit: room for two fingers under the chin strap, and the front about two fingers above the eyebrows. Loose trousers and long coats are best avoided, since they can catch in the chain. Good to know • Courses run all year round, including the school holidays. • Training for school pupils is usually free; adult courses charge a small fee. • Groups of six or more may ask for a course at their own site. 1. What is Bikeability? A. A government-funded training programme. B. A chain of bicycle repair shops. C. A racing competition for pupils. D. A website that sells bicycles. 2. What do riders do at Level 2? A. Practise on the school playground. B. Ride on quiet roads. C. Follow an instructor on busy roads. D. Plan a route to their workplace. 3. What does the text say about helmets? A. They must be supplied by the school. B. They are required at Level 3 only. C. They are advised but not compulsory. D. They should be worn over a hat. B For years the red telephone box on Chapel Street stood empty, its paint peeling, its door stiff with salt. Then, two years ago, a local charity bought it from BT for one pound — part of a scheme that lets communities take over kiosks the company no longer needs. It was Stacia Smales Hill who suggested turning the box into a library. A team of about ten volunteers repainted it, put up a sign and built wooden shelves inside; the town council paid for the materials. The rule is simple: take a book, and either bring it back or leave another in its place. No card, no membership, no opening hours. The village has about 550 people and five book clubs, so the shelves empty quickly. “When the red paint went on, you could feel the excitement,” Smales Hill says. Older residents stopped to tell the volunteers how they had once queued at that box to call relatives abroad. Mousehole is not alone. More than 5,000 communities in Britain have given old kiosks a new use — as libraries, food banks, or places to keep a defibrillator (除颤器). One in Devon became a tiny nightclub, complete with a mirror ball; another now holds a museum of the First World War. A few have been turned into offices powered by solar panels. Not every experiment has been welcomed. In one town, the phone company asked residents to clear the books out, saying it feared that a falling shelf might injure someone. For Smales Hill, though, the point is not the box itself. “A village without a library is a village missing something,” she says. “We have simply put ours back where everybody walks past it.” 4. What did the charity do two years ago? A. It repaired the village hall. B. It bought an unused phone box. C. It opened a second-hand bookshop. D. It paid for a new bus shelter. 5. How does the library work? A. Readers pay a small yearly fee. B. Books are lent for two weeks. C. Readers swap books without registering. D. A volunteer lends books on Saturdays. 6. Why does the writer mention the town where books were removed? A. To show that not every such plan succeeds. B. To compare two kinds of shelves. C. To prove that old boxes are unsafe. D. To explain how a library is organised. 7. What does Smales Hill’s last remark suggest? A. The box should be moved. B. The village needs a new library. C. Old things should be thrown away. D. Reading belongs in daily life. C For Lokratnam, a farmer in Andhra Pradesh, the hardest part of the year used to come after the harvest. With no cool place to store her custard apples and tamarind, she had to sell within days, at whatever price was offered. What she could not sell simply rotted. India grows more fruit and vegetables than any country except China, yet studies suggest that 30 to 40 per cent of them are lost between field and plate. A good deal of that loss has one cause: there is nowhere cold to put the produce. In the countryside the grid is often weak or absent, so a conventional refrigerated room cannot be relied on. Solar-powered cold rooms answer that problem. A room the size of a small classroom, fitted with panels and batteries, can hold several tonnes of produce at a few degrees above zero. Because it needs no connection to the grid, it can stand beside the fields where the food is grown. The results are easy to see. Farmers can wait for a better price instead of accepting the first offer, and can store one crop after another. In Andhra Pradesh, six units were installed, with the Asian Development Bank covering three quarters of the cost and farmers paying the rest. The plan is to reach 150. Engineers warn, however, that a cold room is only worth building if people use it. In one Himalayan state, demand rises sharply at apple harvest and then disappears, leaving expensive equipment idle for months. The answer, researchers say, is to design rooms that can hold different crops, to connect growers with buyers, and to help local operators run the unit as a business rather than a gift. “Technology was never the difficult part,” one engineer says. “The difficult part is fitting it into the way a village already works.” 8. What problem did Lokratnam face? A. Her land was too small to farm. B. Her buyers refused to pay her. C. She lacked workers at harvest time. D. She could not keep her crops fresh. 9. Why are solar-powered rooms used in the countryside? A. They can work where the grid is unreliable. B. They cost less to build than sheds. C. They need no batteries at all. D. They are easy to move between farms. 10. What does the example of the Himalayan state show? A. Apples are the most profitable crop there. B. Cold rooms may stand unused for much of the year. C. Farmers there prefer to sell at harvest. D. Equipment often breaks down in winter. 11. What does the engineer mean by his last remark? A. Technology is too expensive for villages. B. Villages need better-trained engineers. C. Success depends on local habits and needs. D. Machines should be given away free. D Ask people where their best ideas come from and many will say: on my feet. Steve Jobs held meetings while walking, and so, reportedly, does Mark Zuckerberg. For years this was only a story. Then two Stanford researchers, Marily Oppezzo and Daniel Schwartz, put it to the test. Their experiments were deliberately plain. In one, students sat at a desk facing a blank wall and thought of unusual uses for a set of objects; later they did the same task while walking on a treadmill in the same bare room. Walking raised the number of creative responses by about 60 per cent. A second study placed people outdoors — some walking, some pushed in a wheelchair so that they saw the same scenes — and again the walkers did better, though the outdoor setting added ideas of its own. Two findings surprised the researchers. The first was that the room did not matter: a treadmill facing a wall worked as well as a path beside a lake. Movement, not scenery, seemed to do the work. The second was that the effect outlived the walk: people who sat down straight after ten minutes on their feet were still producing more original answers than those who had never stood up. Not everything improves, however. Given a word puzzle with one correct answer, walkers did slightly worse than sitters. Walking, it seems, loosens the mind — which helps when you need many possibilities and hurts when you need the single right one. Why should movement have this effect? One explanation is that walking occupies just enough of the brain to stop it guarding the usual routes, so less expected connections slip through. Another is mood: exercise lifts it, and a lifted mood widens what we notice. The practical advice is modest. If you are stuck on a design, a title or a plan, take the problem outside for ten minutes; if you are checking a calculation, sit down. Oppezzo herself began holding walking meetings, and found that people talked more freely with a pavement under their feet. 12. What did the researchers want to test? A. Why walking is so popular. B. How long a walk should last. C. Whether walking aids thinking. D. Which jobs suit walkers best. 13. What did the treadmill experiment show? A. A bare room limits ideas. B. Students enjoyed walking indoors. C. Ten minutes was too short. D. Moving itself raised creative output. 14. What did the wheelchair test suggest? A. Movement matters more than scenery. B. Sitting outdoors works as well. C. The view matters most. D. Wheelchair users think differently. 15. What is the author’s advice? A. Walk before an exam. B. Sit down when checking figures. C. Hold all meetings outdoors. D. Walk for at least an hour. You do not need a garden to grow vegetables; a balcony, a doorstep or a sunny windowsill will do. But crops in pots live on the decisions you make, so a few rules are worth learning. ____16____ Most vegetables want six hours of direct sun a day, and no amount of feeding makes up for a dark corner. Salad leaves and mint will accept less, so keep the shade for them. A large pot holds more compost, and compost holds water. ____17____ In July a small one can dry out between breakfast and lunch, and a plant that dries out stops growing altogether. What you fill the pot with matters just as much. Soil dug from the garden sets hard in a container and blocks drainage, while bagged compost keeps air around the roots. ____18____ Not every crop asks for the same care. ____19____ Tomatoes, beans and courgettes are heavy feeders; once the first flowers open, give them a liquid feed every two weeks, or the fruit will stay small. Containers need not cost anything. A bucket with holes drilled in the base holds compost and drains as well as a pot from a shop, and it lasts for years. ____20____ Finally, water in the morning rather than at noon, and push a finger into the compost first: if it is still damp below the surface, wait another day. A. Start with the easiest crops. B. Sunlight comes first. C. Look at what you already have. D. Water little and often. E. So choose the largest pot you can carry. F. The fruiting ones need the most. G. Garden soil belongs in the ground. I was sixteen before I learned to ride a bike. Nobody knew who had built it. People left paperbacks, cookbooks and children's stories; other people carried them away. Nina looked after it. Every Saturday she straightened the spines, wiped the rain off the planks and threw away the books that had gone soft with damp. One wet morning in October she found a notebook between two novels. It had a brown cover and a rubber band around it, and inside, in small careful handwriting, someone had written a list: dates, titles, and a line or two about each — “Finished on the train. Cried at the end.” Nina read four pages standing in the rain. On the last page there was a name, Mr. A. Rahman, and an address three streets away. Under it, in different ink: “If you find this, I am sorry. I meant to finish it.” Nina looked at the shelf. Whoever had left the notebook had taken no book in return. She put the notebook in her bag, and that afternoon she walked to the address. The house had a broken gate and a garden full of weeds. An old man was sitting on the step, a blanket over his knees. Paragraph 1: She stopped at the gate, holding the notebook behind her back. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Two weeks later, a small wooden box appeared beside the shelf. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027学年陕西省宝鸡市高三10月英语模拟试题(2) 满分 150 分 考试时间 120 分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分 30 分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1.What will the man do after his maths class? Why does the writer mention the town where books were removed? A. To show that not every such plan succeeds. B. To compare two kinds of shelves. C. To prove that old boxes are unsafe. D. To explain how a library is organised. 7. What does Smales Hill’s last remark suggest? A. The box should be moved. B. The village needs a new library. C. Old things should be thrown away. D. Reading belongs in daily life. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据文章第一段“Then, two years ago, a local charity bought it from BT for one pound — part of a scheme that lets communities take over kiosks the company no longer needs.(然后,两年前,当地一家慈善机构花1英镑从英国电信公司买下了它。这是一项计划的一部分:社区可以接管该公司不再需要的电话亭。)”可知,两年前慈善机构买下了一个废弃的电话亭。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The rule is simple: take a book, and either bring it back or leave another in its place. No card, no membership, no opening hours.(规则很简单:拿走一本书,要么归还,要么留下另一本书替代。不需要借书卡,不用注册会员,也没有开放时间限制。)”可知,读者不需要注册就可以在这里交换书籍。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第五段“Not every experiment has been welcomed. In one town, the phone company asked residents to clear the books out, saying it feared that a falling shelf might injure someone.(并不是每一次改造尝试都获得认可。在另一个城镇,电信公司要求居民把书清走,理由是担心书架掉落伤人。)”可知,作者提到这个镇子是为了说明将旧电话亭改造为他用的计划并不是每一个都能成功。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段““A village without a library is a village missing something,” she says. “We have simply put ours back where everybody walks past it.”(“一个没有图书馆的村庄,总少了点什么,”她说,“我们只是把图书馆放回了大家每天都会路过的地方。”)” C For Lokratnam, a farmer in Andhra Pradesh, the hardest part of the year used to come after the harvest. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“With no cool place to store her custard apples and tamarind, she had to sell within days, at whatever price was offered. What she could not sell simply rotted.(她没有阴凉的地方存放番荔枝和罗望子,只能在几天内卖掉,人家开什么价就只能卖什么价。卖不掉的,最后只能烂掉。)”可知,Lokratnam面临的问题是没有冷藏的地方来存放农作物,导致卖不出去的农作物腐烂,即她无法保持农作物的新鲜。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“In the countryside the grid is often weak or absent, so a conventional refrigerated room cannot be relied on.(农村电网往往供电不稳,甚至根本没有电网,因此传统冷藏室并不可靠。)”以及第三段“Because it needs no connection to the grid, it can stand beside the fields where the food is grown.(因为它不需要接入电网,能够直接建在农田边上。)” 根据第五段“In one Himalayan state, demand rises sharply at apple harvest and then disappears, leaving expensive equipment idle for months.(喜马拉雅山区的一个邦就出现过这样的情况:苹果收获季需求暴涨,旺季一过就无人使用,昂贵的设备一连闲置好几个月。)” 根据最后一段““Technology was never the difficult part,” one engineer says. “The difficult part is fitting it into the way a village already works.”(“技术从来都不是难点,”一位工程师说:“真正难的,是让它融入村庄原有的生产生活模式。”)” D Ask people where their best ideas come from and many will say: on my feet. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Ask people where their best ideas come from and many will say: on my feet. Steve Jobs held meetings while walking, and so, reportedly, does Mark Zuckerberg. For years this was only a story. Then two Stanford researchers, Marily Oppezzo and Daniel Schwartz, put it to the test. (问人们最好的想法从何而来,很多人会说:走路的时候。史蒂夫·乔布斯走路时开会,据说马克·扎克伯格也是如此。多年来这只是个传闻。后来斯坦福大学的两位研究员玛丽莉·奥佩佐和丹尼尔·施瓦茨对此进行了验证。)”可知,人们传言走路更容易产生好想法,研究者做实验就是为了验证走路是否对思考有帮助。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Walking raised the number of creative responses by about 60 per cent. (走路让创意想法的数量提升了大约60%。)”可知,该实验表明移动本身提高了创造性产出。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“A second study placed people outdoors — some walking, some pushed in a wheelchair so that they saw the same scenes — and again the walkers did better (第二项研究在户外开展——一部分人走路,一部分人坐轮椅被推着走,所以他们看到的景色相同——走路的人表现依旧更好)”和第三段中“Movement, not scenery, seemed to do the work. (起作用的似乎是运动,而不是风景。)”可知,两组人看到一样的风景,只有走路的一组创意更好,说明运动比景色更重要。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“If you are stuck on a design, a title or a plan, take the problem outside for ten minutes; if you are checking a calculation, sit down. (如果你在设计、构思标题或者方案时卡住了,带着问题出去走十分钟;如果你要验算计算结果,就坐下来。)”可知,作者的建议是核对数据的时候坐下。 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You do not need a garden to grow vegetables; a balcony, a doorstep or a sunny windowsill will do. B 17. E 18. G 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据后文“Most vegetables want six hours of direct sun a day, and no amount of feeding makes up for a dark corner. Salad leaves and mint will accept less, so keep the shade for them.(大多数蔬菜每天需要六小时直射阳光,再多施肥也弥补不了阴暗角落的不足。生菜和薄荷耐阴,所以把阴凉处留给它们)”可知,空后内容核心是多数蔬菜需要每日6小时直射阳光,耐阴的沙拉叶和薄荷可放在阴凉处,对应B选项“阳光是首要条件”,契合段落主题。 【17题详解】 根据上文“A large pot holds more compost, and compost holds water.(大花盆可以装更多营养土,营养土能存住水分)”以及后文“In July a small one can dry out between breakfast and lunch, and a plant that dries out stops growing altogether.(在七月,小花盆早饭到午饭之间就会干透,缺水的植株会完全停止生长)”可知,空前说明大花盆能装更多堆肥、保水性更好,空后提到小花盆在七月极易干透,对应E选项“所以选你能搬动的最大花盆”,承接上下文的花盆大小对比逻辑。 【18题详解】 根据上文“What you fill the pot with matters just as much. Soil dug from the garden sets hard in a container and blocks drainage, while bagged compost keeps air around the roots.(花盆里的填充物同样重要。从园子里挖来的土在容器里会板结,堵住排水通道,而袋装营养土能让根系周围保有空气)”可知,空前提到从花园挖的土在容器里会板结、堵塞排水,袋装堆肥能为根系留存空气,对应G选项“园土就该待在地里”,呼应反对用园土装盆的内容。 【19题详解】 根据后文“Tomatoes, beans and courgettes are heavy feeders; once the first flowers open, give them a liquid feed every two weeks, or the fruit will stay small.(西红柿、豆子和西葫芦喜肥;第一批花开之后,每两周给它们施一次液体肥,不然果实会长得很小)”可知,空后举例番茄、豆类等结果类作物是需肥量大的作物,开花后要定期追肥,对应F选项“结果类作物的需求最多”,衔接上下文的不同作物养护差异内容。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Containers need not cost anything. A bucket with holes drilled in the base holds compost and drains as well as a pot from a shop, and it lasts for years.(容器不一定需要花钱买。 I was sixteen before I learned to ride a bike. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文: She stopped at the gate, holding the notebook behind her back. The old man looked up slowly, as if expecting a delivery that never came. “I think this belongs to you,” she said. He turned it over, stopping at a page near the end. “I left it in the shelter,” he murmured. “I was ill that week.” Relieved, he read a line, laughed and read it again. Nina sat down beside him, and for half an hour they talked about the books on his list. Two weeks later, a small wooden box appeared beside the shelf. On the lid someone had painted: RETURNED, WITH THANKS. Inside lay the notebook and a card asking whoever found a half-finished book to finish it and leave a line about how it ends. Grateful, Nina screwed the box to the shelter, the notebook open at the last page, where Mr Rahman had written his line at last. By December it held eleven notebooks; she never learned who left the others, and never needed to. 词汇激活 行为类 ①期待:expect/anticipate ②低声说:murmur/whisper 情绪类 ①宽慰的:relieved/emollient ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】【高分句型1】The old man looked up slowly, as if expecting a delivery that never came.(运用了as if引导的方式状语从句的省略形式和that引导的限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】Inside lay the notebook and a card asking whoever found a half-finished book to finish it and leave a line about how it ends.(运用了完全倒装句、现在分词短语作后置定语、whoever引导的宾语从句、动词不定式短语作宾语补足语和how引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
