For whoever wants an exciting and challenging road trip, we came up with our list of the world’s most dangerous roads that would test even the best road trip cars. Read on to discover routes that promise unmatched thrills!
Col du Chaussy, France
At 1,532 metres above sea level, Col du Chaussy is a high mountain pass in south-eastern France. This stretch is only about 3.2 km long but features 17 sharp turns. There’s a small concrete barrier as you zigzag upward but this road, while impossibly picturesque, is still one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
Taroko Gorge Road, China
Taroko Gorge Road is framed by rock on one side and sheer cliff drops on the other. The popular 19 km stretch is so impressive that it draws a constant parade of tour buses, cars, scooters, bicyclists and pedestrians, all sharing the same narrow road. If you want to hit this road, you’d better hope the weather is fair, otherwise, you might suffer through landslides and floods that make sections impassable.
Commonwealth Avenue, Philippines
Commonwealth Avenue isn’t situated on the edge of a mountain. In fact, it’s a wide urban highway that’s just 12 km long. Due to poor drainage (排水) which brings floods on the avenue, this road has earned the tragic nickname “Killer Highway”.
Inspired to embark (开启) on one of these epic journeys? To learn more details, including the best times to visit, and how to rent the perfect vehicle, please click www.roadtrip.com. Your next great adventure is just a click away!

My first day in high school will never be forgotten. When I got to the classroom in the morning, I saw that Mr. Brown had already put our names on our tables. After walking a few steps, I saw my name on the table right in the middle of the classroom. As I walked up to my table, my heart sang. “It would be great to sit there. I could see everything easily,” I thought to myself.
A while later, the other students entered one by one and took their own seats. And then Mr. Brown started talking. He showed us his classroom rules and tried to explain them. All of a sudden, a student called Tony started singing loudly. All the while he moved his body to the music. His desk mate Josh couldn’t understand why he was doing these things. Then he stood up and talked to Mr. Brown, “I don’t want to sit with this strange guy. Can I swap seats with someone else in this room, please?”
Mr. Brown didn’t answer his question directly. He stopped what he was doing and turned on his computer. Then he showed us some pictures about autistic (患自闭症的) kids. He explained that autistic kids have little self-control. They seem to do things that are beyond everyone else’s understanding. However, they can do many other great things, in the field of art or music for example. Then he told us that Tony was not good at maths, but loved songs. “He can sing thousands of songs. What’s more surprising is that he can remember all the words without any mistakes.” In the end, Mr. Brown added that although autistic kids were different, they should be loved.
Since that first day in high school, I became Mr. Brown’s admirer (崇拜者). I was pretty sure Mr. Brown would get all of us on the right track.
24.How did the author feel when seeing his table?
A.Annoyed. B.Confused. C.Excited. D.Disappointed.
25.What did Mr. Brown do in the class first?
A.He introduced Tony. B.He showed some pictures.
C.He got his computer ready. D.He explained the classroom rules.
26.In what way was Tony special?
A.He acted politely. B.He was understanding.
C.He knew music very well. D.He had a mathematical mind.
27.What does the author think of Mr. Brown?
A.He is off the right track. B.He is admired by all of us.
C.He is a great teacher. D.He is too different to be loved.

For a long time, scientists believed that true language belonged only to humans. But this idea is now being challenged by new discoveries. When a researcher saw a cuttlefish making specific signs with its arms in response to another cuttlefish on video, it suggested that these animals might be using a special kind of sign language to communicate. This finding is just one of many that are changing our understanding of the animal kingdom.
The biggest factor in this new age of discovery is Artificial Intelligence (Al). AI allows scientists to analyze huge amounts of data from animal sounds and actions. By processing these numerous data, AI can find complex patterns that the human ear or eye would easily miss. This has given researchers a powerful new tool to decode (破译) the hidden meanings in animal communication, raising the exciting possibility that we might one day “talk” with animals.
Remarkable discoveries are already being made. For example, one research team studying bottlenose dolphins found they do more than just make random (任意的) noises. Each dolphin has a unique “signature whistle,” which acts like a name. They also use other specific calls. One whistle, for example, is used when they are curious about something new, almost as if they are asking, “What was that?” Another seems to be a clear warning signal. This suggests a level of communication far more complex than we thought before.
While it is a huge challenge to fully understand these animal languages, the effort is worthwhile. Analyzing the code of animal communication could completely change how we see the world and other species. Perhaps we could learn what it is like to communicate with echoes (回声) like a dolphin, or with colors like a cuttlefish. More importantly, understanding the intelligence and rich social lives of animals will certainly increase our respect for them and our connection to the natural world.
28.What is challenging the traditional view on language?
A.Deeper study of human speech. B.The old opinion in animal abilities.
C.The rapid development of AI tools. D.New evidence of animal communication.
29.How does AI contribute to decoding animal messages?
A.It talks with the animals directly. B.It generates numerous animal data.
C.It uncovers some hidden patterns. D.It reproduces animal calls and sounds.
30.What does the study on dolphins suggest?
A.Their sounds carry specific meanings. B.Their vocal patterns are almost random.
C.They are smarter than other species. D.They can use human communication.
31.What is the author’s attitude towards analyzing animal languages?
A.Doubtful B.Supportive C.Unconcerned D.Disapproving

In a time marked by increasing income differences, a study from Austria presents a low-cost solution to narrow this gap: the therapeutic power of nature. The study offers clear evidence that consistent engagement with natural environments significantly enhances well-being, highlighting how nature serves as a vital tool for improving mental health and overall life satisfaction among economically disadvantaged groups.
The study surveyed 2,300 individuals across Austria, ensuring a representative sample in terms of age, gender, and region. The findings show that people on lower incomes who actively visit natural spaces report levels of well-being that nearly match those of the highest income respondents. “What the results show is that the well-being benefits from visiting nature at least once a week across the whole year are similar to those from an increase in 1,000 euros of income per year,” explains Leonie Fian, the lead author of the study.
A critical distinction made by the research is between living near green spaces and actively visiting them. It turns out that the mere presence of greenery in one’s living environment does not automatically translate to improved well-being. Instead, it is the active decision to engage with these spaces — a park, forest, or other natural settings — that provides great health benefits. This insight emphasizes the necessity of not just creating greener neighborhoods but ensuring they are accessible and inviting to all, especially those who might benefit the most.
These findings are highly significant, especially when considering the higher risks of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety among lower-income populations. Nature contact, as the study suggests, could play a vital role in reducing these risks.
The research highlights the importance of policy measures that not only increase the availability of green spaces but also improve their accessibility. “Especially for people on lower incomes, information about attractive natural recreation areas nearby and their accessibility by public transport plays an important role,” notes Leonie Fian. Ensuring easy access to natural spaces, even on weekends and via public transportation, can make a significant difference in public health outcomes.
32.What does “the therapeutic power” underlined in paragraph 1 indicate?
A.Not costing much. B.Making you feel rich.
C.Providing health benefits. D.Improving the environment.
33.According to the study, which is the best way to enhance well-being?
A.Engaging with nature. B.Living close to green spaces.
C.Creating a green environment. D.Exercising in outdoor spaces.
34.What is the key focus of the policy measures recommended by the study?
A.Making nature visits a weekly habit. B.Building more green spaces that are easy to reach.
C.Planting more trees in natural recreation areas. D.Encouraging people to take public transportation.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Policy Measures: The Key to More Green Spaces
B.Green Spaces: The Unique Benefits from Nature
C.Public Spaces: Natural Recreation Areas for People
D.Nature Access: Bridging Income Gaps in Well-Being

The Internet brings teenagers rich learning resources, yet it also carries risks such as online addiction and harmful information. Many countries have introduced rules to limit young people’s online behaviour. 36
China has put forward strict requirements for online platforms to strengthen protection for minors. Platforms are required to set up special youth mode. 37 When teenagers use the service, the system will automatically limit daily usage time and block inappropriate content.
Some parents welcome the tough rules. They believe such measures can reduce teenagers’ chances of being exposed to violence or misleading information online. 38 They argue that too much restriction may prevent teenagers from making full use of online educational resources.
Experts point out that online protection for minors should not only rely on platform rules. 39 Parents are supposed to communicate more with their children and guide them to form healthy digital habits.
The hard rules are not meant to keep teenagers away from the Internet completely. 40 Only with joint efforts from platforms, families and schools can teenagers safely benefit from the online world.
A.However, some people hold different opinions.
B.It will be activated once users finish real-name identification.
C.It aims to create a safer online environment for young users.
D.Teenagers should stay away from all kinds of online information.
E.Family education also plays an important role in this process.
F.Online games are the only source that harms teenagers’ mental health.
G.They guide teenagers to make good use of online resources properly.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I had always dreamed of becoming a pilot. Ever since I was five years old, I would stare up at the sky, watching planes trace white lines across the blue, imagining myself sitting in the cockpit, guiding thousands of passengers safely through the clouds. My room was covered with posters of aircraft, and I could name every commercial plane model by the age of ten.
But there was one problem: I was terrified of heights.
It was an embarrassing contradiction. How could someone who wanted to fly for a living be afraid of looking down from a tall building? Every time I went to an observation deck, my legs would turn to jelly, and my heart would race uncontrollably. My friends laughed when I told them my dream. “A pilot who’s afraid of heights? That’s like a chef who hates food!” they teased.
When I turned eighteen, I applied to the aviation academy anyway. My parents were supportive but concerned. “Are you sure about this, son?” my father asked gently. “Being a pilot isn’t just about loving planes — it’s about being comfortable in the sky.” I nodded firmly, though inside I was full of doubt.
The first week at the academy was overwhelming. On the third day, we were scheduled for our first training flight — a short lesson in a small Cessna aircraft. As I walked toward the small plane on the tarmac, my palms were sweaty. The instructor, Captain Reynolds, a calm, experienced pilot with more than 20,000 flight hours, noticed my nervousness. “First time in a small plane?” he asked. I nodded, unable to speak. He smiled and said, “I’ll be right there with you.”
The plane took off smoothly, but as we climbed higher, my fear took over. I looked out the window and saw the ground falling away — the airport shrinking to a tiny patch, the cars becoming small dots, the buildings turning into toys. My breathing became shallow and fast. I gripped the armrest so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I wanted to scream, but no sound came out.
Captain Reynolds noticed immediately. He gently placed his hand on my shoulder and spoke calmly. “Look forward, not down. Focus on the horizon, not the ground. Tell me what you see.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon.

【答案】28.D 29.C 30.A 31.B
【导语】本文主要介绍新发现挑战了只有人类拥有真正语言的传统观点,人工智能助力研究动物交流以及研究动物语言的意义。
【详解】28.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“For a long time, scientists believed that true language belonged only to humans. But this idea is now being challenged by new discoveries. When a researcher saw a cuttlefish making specific signs with its arms in response to another cuttlefish on video, it suggested that these animals might be using a special kind of sign language to communicate.(长期以来,科学家认为真正的语言只为人类所独有。但这一观点如今正受到新发现的挑战。一名研究人员在视频中看到,一只乌贼用触手做出特定手势来回应另一只乌贼,这表明这类动物或许正在使用一种特殊的手势语言进行交流。)”可知,有关动物交流的新证据正在挑战关于语言的传统观点。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“By processing these numerous data, AI can find complex patterns that the human ear or eye would easily miss.(通过处理这些大量数据,人工智能能够发现人耳或人眼容易忽略的复杂模式。)”可知,人工智能通过发现一些隐藏的模式来帮助破译动物传递的信息。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Each dolphin has a unique “signature whistle,” which acts like a name. They also use other specific calls. One whistle, for example, is used when they are curious about something new, almost as if they are asking, “What was that?” Another seems to be a clear warning signal.(每只海豚都有独特的“标志性哨声”,相当于名字。它们还使用其他特定叫声。例如,一种哨声用于对新事物感到好奇时,几乎就像在问:“那是什么?”另一种似乎是明确的警告信号。)”可知,海豚发出的声音带有特定含义。
31.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“While it is a huge challenge to fully understand these animal languages, the effort is worthwhile.(尽管完全弄懂这些动物语言是巨大挑战,但这份努力是值得的。)”可知,作者认为研究动物语言是值得的,能够看出作者对此持支持的态度。

【答案】Dear Ryan,
How is everything going? I’m writing to tell you about my favourite break-time sport — shuttlecock kicking.
It is a traditional Chinese sport. We kick a feathered shuttlecock with our feet, trying to keep it from falling to the ground. My classmates and I often play it during the ten-minute break between classes. I love it mainly for two reasons. First, it helps me relax after busy study. Besides, it improves my balance and keeps me energetic for the next class. It also brings us great fun and strengthens our friendship. Hope you can try it someday.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A year later, I completed my first solo flight.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
I forced myself to look straight ahead toward the horizon. As I focused on the steady horizon where sky met earth, my breathing gradually slowed. “Look at the instruments,” Captain Reynolds continued, his voice calm. “Focus on what they tell you — altitude, speed, direction. The ground isn’t your concern right now.” As I read the dials, I found the power of controlling the plane far outweighed my remaining fear. “You did well,” Captain Reynolds said as we landed. “Fear is normal — it keeps you alert. But a pilot flies because he loves the sky more than he fears the fall.”
A year later, I completed my first solo flight. As I stepped out of the aircraft, my knees were still weak, but this time it wasn’t from fear — it was from pure joy. My classmates applauded, and Captain Reynolds shook my hand firmly. “You did it, son,” he said. And I learned something more valuable: courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s moving forward despite it. That day, I wasn’t just a pilot — I was proof that even the most impossible dreams can become real, if you’re brave enough to face your fears and keep climbing.
①超过:outweigh/outbalance
②实现:become real/come true
情绪类
①警惕的:alert/watchful
②恐惧:fear/scare
