3. 语言小贴士（考点归纳）。

① 定语从句（关系代词作主语）：I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me. 关系代词 that 指代 shadow，在从句中作主语，不可省略。

② the way 后接定语从句：The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow. the way 后的定语从句可用 that / in which，也可省略关系词。

③ not at all like ... 意为“一点也不像……”：Not at all like proper children, ...（proper 在此意为“规矩的；正经的”）。

④ 动词 -ing 形式（动名词作宾语）：enjoy / finish / practice / mind / avoid / suggest / keep / miss / consider / imagine + doing。此处 doing 是名词性质，不是进行时。

⑤ see sb. do sth. 表示“看见某人做某事（强调全过程）”：I see him jump before me. 若强调正在进行，则用 see sb. doing sth.。

⑥ make a fool of sb. 意为“捉弄、愚弄某人”：can only make a fool of me in every sort of way。

⑦ stick to sb. / sth. 意为“紧跟；粘着；（坚持）”：as that shadow sticks to me。

⑧ ought to do sth. 意为“应该做某事”，与 should 意思相近：how children ought to play。

⑨ so ... that ... 引导结果状语从句：he sometimes gets so little that there’s none of him at all。

⑩ rhyme 可作名词“押韵；韵文”，也可作动词“押韵”：rhyme words 押韵词；rhyme with 与……押韵。

⑪ verse 意为“诗节；诗句”：本诗共三节（three verses），每节四行。

⑫ 拟人（personification）：把影子当作人来写（he / him、likes to grow、he’s a coward），赋予它人的特征，写出童趣与想象。
