During school start program, one of my professors mentioned the chance to study abroad in New Zealand. It sounded amazing, yet I had no idea it would greatly change my life back then. In July 2015, I went to New Zealand to study at Auckland University of Technology, eager to explore the local culture. I took a course called Indigenous Encounters of the Māori (毛利人) Kind. It offered a weekend Noho Marae experience, open to all interested international students. Marae means "meeting grounds", serving as a gathering place for Māori groups, the word for family in their language. On the first night, international students gathered at the Marae, each bringing a dish from their home country. We enjoyed the food heartily, eating until we felt tired rather than full. It was truly special to explore Māori culture with peers (同龄人) worldwide. Despite different languages and backgrounds, we received warm welcome at the Marae. We tasted traditional hāngi for dinner, with meat and vegetables cooked on underground hot rocks. Full and joyful, we continued our celebration and strengthened our friendship deep into the night. On Sunday morning, we attended a formal welcome ceremony. After several speeches, men and women split up: women learned poi, a traditional dance, while men learned the haka, a ceremonial dance. Later, students from different countries performed local songs and dances to thank our hosts. My American classmates and I put on a typical American show — and we succeeded. This weekend experience left me a precious lesson. What impressed me most was not those games or songs, but the unique sense of belonging brought by the ancient Māori traditions. It bridges gaps between different countries and languages. It lets us know we will always have a warm place in this special Marae wherever we go. 4. What can we learn about the author before going to New Zealand? A. He planned to settle there.  B. He expected a life change. C. He was curious about the chance.  D. He had studied Māori culture. 5. What did the international students gain from the first night gathering? A. Unique cooking skills. B. Cross-cultural connections. C. Language improvement. D. Official personal honors. 6. What activity was arranged separately for male and female participants in the ceremony? A. Delivering cultural speeches.  B. Thanking local hosts formally. C. Playing musical instruments.  D. Learning traditional performance. 7. What does the author value most about the experience? A. Gaining a feeling of belonging.  B. Learning new performance skills. C. Enjoying local food and games.  D. Improving academic performance. 4. C 5. B 6. D 7. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform (平台), ChatGPT Health, which it says offers higher security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on managing health cure. Doctors and patients say AI is already having a great impact on both the way that patients receive information about their health and doctors’ ability to diagnose and communicate with their patients. Unlike doctors, ChatGPT has nearly unlimited time to engage in inquiry with patients. There are often stories about AI identifying unusual or rare conditions. Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily well-being and management of disease as a complement (补充) to treatment from medical professionals. Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses it to help manage his physical conditions. Recently, says Rosen, he told AI he was experiencing migraines (偏头痛) after sleeping. AI asked him what position he was sleeping in and suggested he use two pillows instead of one. Pressure can build when lying flat, it explained, and cause migraines. Then his headaches disappeared. The list of unanswered questions and potential risks of using AI in medicine is long. Dr. Robert Wachter, author of the forthcoming book How AI is Transforming Healthcare and What that means for Our Future, says he’s seen the risks first hand. Wachter tells a recent case of AI advising a patient to try a drug as a treatment for a cancer. “It probably wouldn’t hurt you, but what would hurt you is you not getting appropriate treatment for your cancer that is treatable,” he says. Despite the harm, Wachter says AI has already significantly improved his own work and that of his colleagues. He now uses an AI writing tool that allows him to look his patients in the eye while they talk. “Two years ago I would have been sitting there typing on my computer.” 8. What do we know about ChatGPT Health? A. It has 100 million registered users. B. Its users’ privacy is better protected. C. It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend. D. It provides better health care than doctors. 9. What impact has AI brought according to paragraph 2? A. It has greatly increased the cure rate of diseases. B. It reduced the number of patients in the hospital. C. It changes the way doctors interact with patients. D. It provides doctors with more health information. 10. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning Burt Rosen in paragraph 3? A. The commercial prospect of AI. B. The lack of daily medical knowledge. C. The significance of regular checkups. D. The value of AI-aided health management. 11. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A. Risks to trusting AI.  B. Why timely treatment is essential. C. A book about cancer.  D. How AI is transforming healthcare. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform (平台), ChatGPT Health, which it says offers higher security for sharing medical records and data.(一月初,该公司宣布推出新平台ChatGPT Health,平台声称在共享医疗记录和数据方面能提供更高的安全性)”可知,该平台用户的隐私能得到更好的保护。 根据第二段中“Doctors and patients say AI is already having a great impact on both the way that patients receive information about their health and doctors’ ability to diagnose and communicate with their patients.(医生和患者表示,人工智能已经对患者获取健康信息的方式,以及医生的诊断能力和与患者沟通的方式都产生了巨大影响)”可知,人工智能改变了医生和患者互动的方式。 根据第三段中“Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily well-being and management of disease as a complement to treatment from medical professionals.(许多患者表示,将不同的人工智能平台用于日常健康维护和疾病管理,是对专业医疗人员治疗的一种补充)”,结合后文伯特·罗森借助AI解决偏头痛的实例可知,作者提到他是为了说明AI辅助健康管理的实用价值。 D Would you like a nice juicy steak? What if it came from a young cow taken from its mother at 10 months old and killed at just 18 months, dying slowly and perhaps fully aware of its death? For some meat eaters, the answer is still yes. But according to a new study from psychologists at the UK University of East Anglia, it takes a lot than that to deter many people from eating a meat dish. The experiment took place in a university cafeteria. Two kinds of menus were given to students. They were almost the same, except that one set included pictures of animals next to the meat dishes. For example, the sweet and sour chicken had a picture of a chicken, the pork chop meal showed a pig, and the roast beef was accompanied by an image of a cow. No pictures were added next to the vegetarian (素食的) dishes. The results were surprising. Students who received menus with animal images were 22 percent more likely to order vegetarian food. The effect seemed strongest for pork, although this difference was not statistically significant. This may reflect a general tendency for people to feel more sympathy (同情) toward pigs than toward other farm animals. However, the study has some limitations. It was carried out in a single university cafeteria, so the findings may not apply to other populations. Besides, seeing a picture on a menu is not the same as seeing one on food packaging in a supermarket. The research also does not prove whether the effect would last over time or whether people would continue choosing vegetarian meals in the long run. Even so, the change in behavior was meaningful. Although the overall increase in vegetarian orders was small, the authors argue that small shifts can become significant when repeated across many restaurants and over time. Reducing meat consumption is now considered an important way to protect both human health and the environment. Some estimates suggest that a global move toward plant-based diets could have effects comparable to replacing fossil fuels (化石燃料) with nuclear energy. 12. What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Persuade.  B. Discourage.  C. Remind.  D. Attract. 13. How did the researchers test their idea? A. By removing meat from menus. B. By showing videos to participants. C. By changing prices of vegetarian meals. D. By adding animal images on the menus. 14. What is the author attitude toward the study value? A. Supportive.  B. Negative.  C. Doubtful.  D. Unconcerned. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Cafeterias Ban Meat for Students B. A Time of Plant-based Diets is Coming C. Animal Pictures Reduce Meat Orders D. Vegetarian Diets Replace Meat-based Dishes 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Would you like a nice juicy steak? What if it came from a young cow taken from its mother at 10 months old and killed at just 18 months, dying slowly and perhaps fully aware of its death? For some meat eaters, the answer is still yes. But according to a new study from psychologists at the UK University of East Anglia, it takes a lot than that to deter many people from eating a meat dish.(你想要一块美味多汁的牛排吗? 根据文章第二段的“Two kinds of menus were given to students. They were almost the same, except that one set included pictures of animals next to the meat dishes.(学生们收到了两种菜单,内容几乎相同,只是其中一套在肉类菜肴旁边附有动物图片。)” 根据第四段内容“However, the study has some limitations. It was carried out in a single university cafeteria, so the findings may not apply to other populations. Besides, seeing a picture on a menu is not the same as seeing one on food packaging in a supermarket. The research also does not prove whether the effect would last over time or whether people would continue choosing vegetarian meals in the long run.(然而,这项研究存在一些局限性。它是在一家大学的食堂中进行的,因此研究结果可能不适用于其他人群。此外,看到菜单上的图片与在超市食品包装上看到图片并不相同。该研究也无法证明这种效果是否会持续下去,或人们是否会在长期内继续选择素食餐食。)”可知,作者在第四段客观指出了研究的局限性,但在最后一段“Even so, the change in behavior was meaningful. Although the overall increase in vegetarian orders was small, the authors argue that small shifts can become significant when repeated across many restaurants and over time. (尽管如此,这种行为的变化仍具有重要意义。尽管素食订单的整体增长幅度较小,但作者认为,当这种微小的变化在多家餐厅中持续发生并随着时间推移累积时,就会变得显著。)”明确表示行为的改变是有意义的,并强调了小改变积少成多带来的积极影响,体现了作者对研究价值的肯定。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段内容“The experiment took place in a university cafeteria. Two kinds of menus were given to students. They were almost the same, except that one set included pictures of animals next to the meat dishes. For example, the sweet and sour chicken had a picture of a chicken, the pork chop meal showed a pig, and the roast beef was accompanied by an image of a cow. No pictures were added next to the vegetarian Studying abroad is an academic adventure. That earned her a special place, a separate desk known as “jail (监狱)”. As a newly hired teacher, I was full of passion but actually inexperienced, failing to manage my class well. Belinda cared little about school rules and books. She was the smallest person in my class, and many teachers had fallen into the trap of believing she was too small to hurt anyone. “Jail” was not working. Keeping her in the classroom to clean desks and pick up rubbish during break as punishment never discouraged her. Instead, she said she enjoyed the work and hoped to do it daily. On the third day, I caught Belinda fighting with José. She had called him stupid. I asked Belinda to write behavioral standards after school and gave her another lecture on behavior. But the next day, she fought with José again. I shouted across the room to ask the reason. José said Belinda had called him a bad word. I decided to contact her parents. But Belinda informed me that her mother had no phone. Determined to win this battle, I told Belinda that I would walk her home and talk to her mother in person. For the first time all week, Belinda became silent. The rest of the day, she sat still in her chair. As a new teacher, I had to stand firmly by my decisions. After school, we walked two blocks to her home. I nervously wondered what to say to her mother. It was only four days into the school year, and I had lost control of a seven-year-old. Belinda took me through the gate to her yard, which was covered with rubbish. Loud barks from a dog and babies’ cries came from inside the house. Waiting on the doorway, I heard her mother's sharp voice. After Belinda softly announced my arrival, her mother asked directly what trouble Belinda had caused this time. I suddenly decided to try a different approach. “Well, I didn’t come to tell you what Belinda is doing wrong. I came to tell you what she is doing right.” There was a long silence. Then, slowly, the door opened.   _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, Belinda walked into the classroom with a brand-new backpack.   _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 There was a long silence. Then, slowly, the door opened. Belinda’s mother stood there, her tired eyes filled with surprise and doubt. I took a deep breath and told her every tiny good deed Belinda had done at school, from carefully cleaning classroom desks to quietly picking up rubbish without complaint. The woman’s eyes widened. She glanced at Belinda, who was staring at the floor with her small hands shaking. “No one ever told me she did anything good,” her mother whispered. I nodded gently and replied, “She’s small, but she has a big heart.” Belinda looked up, tears shining in her eyes. The next morning, Belinda walked into the classroom with a brand-new backpack. She held it tightly as if it were a precious treasure. She walked straight to José. Before I could react, she handed him a new pencil and apologized for her rude words and fights in a sincere voice. José hesitated for a second before accepting it and smiling back. Belinda then turned to me and made a heartfelt apology. From that day on, Belinda changed completely, behaving properly, following school rules and getting along well with classmates. I finally realized that kindness and encouragement are always the best way to guide a child. 词汇激活 行为类 ①告诉,讲述:tell/inform/relate ②注视,盯着:stare at/gaze at/fix one’s eyes on 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/be surprised/astonishment ②怀疑:doubt/suspicion 【点睛】【高分句型1】She glanced at Belinda, who was staring at the floor with her small hands shaking. B My relationship with New Zealand started before I began my study at the University of Vermont. C Hundreds of millions of people now ask ChatGPT weekly for health advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. D Would you like a nice juicy steak? 12. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
