Each packs plenty of food and water, a pair of rubber boots and sometimes a cup of hot chocolate. Then, I drop them off at a nearby park where they spend the entire day outside at a certified forest school. When I first signed them up for forest school program, I loved the idea, but as a mum, I was concerned about a few things: Would they be comfortable outside for that long? Would they stay engaged for that many hours? Then I asked them if time ever seemed to move slowly, they stared at me in confusion. They didn’t understand my question, which fittingly removed it. In this program, kids direct their own play, climbing tall trees or testing ice on the frozen lake. They are never told their play is too high or too sharp, but are rather trusted to self- adjust. Something else my sons appreciate about forest school is not being told to move on to the next activity, but being left to stay in a particular spot for as long as their curiosity allows. : “What about all the things they’re missing in real school?” concerned parents have asked me. Neither of their classroom teachers thinks it’s a problem, but most significantly, my kids are learning new and different skills that a classroom cannot teach. They are learning to sit silently and observe nature up close-a skill that’s virtually impossible to develop in a noisy and overcrowded classroom setting. They are making social connections across a broader range of age groups. They cooperate together, using their different sizes and strengths to fulfill various roles within their games. I appreciate it that forest school is shaping my boys’ relationship with the outdoors. They’re learning how to spend extended periods of time in nature, what to do to pass the time, and developing knowledge that will get them much closer to nature in the coming decades. 24. What is special about the forest school program? A. Teachers engage in kids’ play. B. Kids play and learn outdoors. C. It focuses on nature protection. D. It offers various food and drinks. 25. How did the author feel about kids’ reaction to her questions? A. Awkward. B. Concerned. C. Relieved. D. Proud. 26. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The concerns caused by the program. B. The benefits gained from role plays. C. The skills acquired by children. D. The games loved by teachers. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Nature: a wonderland for the young B. Forest school program proves a hit C. Parks are replacing traditional schools D. Forest school: a fine place for my kids 【答案】24. B 25. C 26. C 27. 根据第一段中“Each packs plenty of food and water, a pair of rubber boots and sometimes a cup of hot chocolate. Then, I drop them off at a nearby park where they spend the entire day outside at a certified forest school.(每个人都带了大量的食物和水,一双橡胶靴,有时还有一杯热巧克力。然后,我把他们送到附近的一个公园,在那里他们在一所经过认证的森林学校度过一整天。)”以及第三段中的“In this program, kids direct their own play, climbing tall trees or testing ice on the frozen lake.(在这个项目中,孩子们指导自己的游戏,爬高大的树木或在冰冻的湖面上测试冰。)” 根据第二段中的“Then I asked them if time ever seemed to move slowly, they stared at me in confusion. They didn’t understand my question, which fittingly removed it.(然后我问他们时间是否过得很慢,他们困惑地盯着我。他们不明白我的问题,这就恰当地消除了它。)”可知,孩子们对作者的问题感到很迷惑,这也消除了作者的担忧,由此可知,见到孩子们的这种反应,使得作者打消了顾虑。故选C项。 【26题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段中的主题句“Neither of their classroom teachers thinks it’s a problem, but most significantly, my kids are learning new and different skills that a classroom cannot teach.(他们的老师都不认为这是个问题,但最重要的是,我的孩子们正在学习新的和不同的技能,这是课堂上无法教授的。)” 根据最后一段“I appreciate it that forest school is shaping my boys’ relationship with the outdoors. They’re learning how to spend extended periods of time in nature, what to do to pass the time, and developing knowledge that will get them much closer to nature in the coming decades.(我很感激森林学校塑造了我的孩子们与户外的关系。他们正在学习如何在大自然中度过更长的时间,做什么来打发时间,并发展知识,使他们在未来的几十年里更接近大自然。)”以及全文讲述的内容可知,作者介绍的这所森林学校的特殊之处,以及孩子们在这里能学到许多学校内学不到的技能,作者感激森林学校可以塑造孩子与户外的关系,所以本文的题目为“森林学校,一个对我的孩子很好的地方”概括了文章的主题。故选D项。 C On Grytviken island in the South Atlantic Ocean lies the South Georgia Museum, one of the most remote museums in the world. South Georgia Museum is located in the island’s old whaling station. Whaling, or the hunting of whales for their usable natural products, such as meat and oil, ceased there in 1964. The building that now houses the museum once served as the whaling manager’s home and office and went unused for over 20 years before it opened to the public as a museum in 1992. There are no passenger flights to or from Grytviken, so the majority of visitors arrive on a ship. The island itself only sees about 10, 000 visitors a year and there are no permanent residents, only a group of 20 scientists, maintenance staff, and museum workers who brave the island’s cold weather conditions. Traveling to the museum requires advance planning. South Georgia Museum staff all travel to the island from abroad for the southern hemisphere (半球) spring, or mid - October, and most come from the United Kingdom, around 8, 000 miles north. The museum, which offers free admission, “aims to make this history and heritage accessible both to the visiting public and to those unable to visit this remote region through education, exhibitions and outreach”. according to its website. It houses a natural history collection, artifacts, exhibitions related to the early history of sealing and whaling as well as Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and more. The museum rooms are named after individuals who contributed to the growth or conservation of the island in some way. The temperature is ideal for visitors October through December, but sill, daytime highs don’t often reach above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. For those who work there, Internet access is patchy and fresh food options are rare. It’s not a place for everyone, but for the staff that calls it home for parts of the year, it’s a unique form of paradise. “Stepping away from the world has been a treat,” said Pierce, one of the staff. 28. What can we learn about the South Georgia Museum? A. It is accessible to visitors by air. B. It has 20 maintenance workers. C. It opened to the public in 1964. D. It used to be a whaling station. 29. Who are the rooms of the museum named after? A. Managers of the whaling station. B. Adventurers exploring the Antarctic. C. Those who made contributions to the island. D. Individuals who conserved whales from extinction. 30. What does the underlined word “patchy” mean in the last paragraph? A. Poor. B. Easy. C. Free. D. Quick. 31. In which column of a website can we find this text? A. Animals. B. People. C. Travel. D. News. D 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第二段“The building that now houses the museum once served as the whaling manager’s home and office and went unused for over 20 years before it opened to the public as a museum in 1992. (现在博物馆所在的建筑曾经是捕鲸经理的家和办公室,在1992年作为博物馆向公众开放之前,它已经闲置了20多年。)”可知,南乔治亚博物馆曾经是一个捕鲸站。故选D。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The museum rooms are named after individuals who contributed to the growth or conservation of the island in some way. (博物馆的房间以在某种程度上对该岛的发展或保护做出贡献的个人命名。)”可知,博物馆的房间是以对该岛的发展或保护做出贡献的个人命名的。故选C。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据最后一段“For those who work there, Internet access is patchy and fresh food options are rare. (对于那些在那里工作的人来说,互联网接入patchy,新鲜食物的选择也很少。)”可知,这句话描述的是在那里工作的条件很苦,所以patchy的意思应该是“不好的,糟糕的”,和选项A意思一致。故选A。 根据第一段“On Grytviken island in the South Atlantic Ocean lies the South Georgia Museum, one of the most remote museums in the world. (南乔治亚博物馆位于南大西洋的格里特维肯岛上,是世界上最偏远的博物馆之一。)”和最后一段“The temperature is ideal for visitors October through December, but sill, daytime highs don’t often reach above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. (10月至12月的气温对游客来说是理想的,但白天的气温通常不会超过40华氏度。)”可知,这篇文章主要介绍位于南大西洋的格里特维肯岛上的南乔治亚博物馆,所以应该是选自于旅游栏一部分。故选C。 D In conversations with strangers, people commonly tend to think they should speak less than half the conversation time to be likable. But we’ve discovered this idea is wrong. Our data shows that people tend to think they should speak about 45% of the time to be likable in a one-on-one conversation with someone new. However, it appears speaking up a bit more is actually a better strategy. In our research, we randomly assigned people to speak for 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% of the time in a conversation with someone new. We found that the more they spoke, the more they were liked by their new partners. This was only one study with 116 participants, but the outcome is supported by other researchers’ findings. For example, a previous study randomly assigned one in a pair to take on the role of “speaker” and the other to take on the role of “listener. ” After engaging in 12-minute interactions, listeners liked speakers more than speakers liked listeners because listeners felt more similar to speakers than speakers did to listeners. This outcome suggests the reason people prefer those who speak up: Learning more about a new partner can make you feel like you have more in common with him or her. Further, we assigned people to speak for up to 70% and even 90% of the time. The result shows it is not an ideal strategy. Our research does not suggest people hold down a conversational partner but rather that they feel comfortable speaking up more than they usually might. Research like ours can help people gain a ‘more reasonable understanding of social interactions with new people and become more confident about how to make a good first impression. It has the obvious benefit of allowing us to carefully control speaking time. However, it does not reflect more natural conversations. Future research should figure out whether our findings generalize to more natural interactions. 32. What is the common belief concerning conversations with strangers? A. Speaking a little less is preferred. B. Speaking half the time is the best. C. Listeners are more likable than speakers. D. Listeners fail to control the conversations. 33. How was the research carried out? A. By analyzing speaking habits. B. By making comparisons. C. By listing examples. D. By collecting data. 34. What is the disadvantage of the research? A. The conversation time is limited. B. Further study is hard to continue. C. The findings are less widely appliable. D. Interactions with strangers are missing. 35. In which situation can the research finding be applied? A. Attending a family gathering. B. Partying with your friends. C. Meeting a new teacher. D. Making a public speech. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第一段中“In conversations with strangers, people commonly tend to think they should speak less than half the conversation time to be likable.(在与陌生人交谈时,人们通常倾向于认为他们说话少于一半的时间才能讨人喜欢。)” 根据第二段中“In our research, we randomly assigned people to speak for 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% of the time in a conversation with someone new. We found that the more they spoke, the more they were liked by their new partners.(在我们的研究中,我们随机分配了一些人,让他们在与陌生人对话时,用30%、40%、50%、60%的时间说话。我们发现,他们说得越多,他们的新合作伙伴就越喜欢他们。)”,可知,研究是“通过“比较说话时间”来实施的。故选B。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“However, it does not reflect more natural conversations. Future research should figure out whether our findings generalize to more natural interactions.(然而,它并没有反映出更自然的对话。 The shoes you wear can reflect your style, mood, personality, attitude, and much more. My father’s profession was such that the whole family had to shift frequently from one place to another. My mother was a housewife and my sister was an artist. Due to my father’s transfer(调动) after every 3-4 years, my school life was terrible. I had to start a new life in new schools and make new friends. Because of this, I always felt lonely. One Friday afternoon, I went with my friend Rocky to his home. As soon as the door opened, a pet dog jumped on Rocky and started licking his face. I asked Rocky, “Why is your pet doing this?” Rocky replied, “My doggy loves me so much. This is the way he shows his love. Animals can’t speak, but they too have feelings.” His reply was so touching that it made me think about keeping a pet dog. After going back home, I shared the whole incident with my mother and sister and expressed my desire. My mother said, “It’s up to you, but if you keep a dog, it will be entirely your responsibility to look after it. ” My sister thought it wonderful to have a pet dog in the house, and she supported me. Now the real task for me was my father. We were pure vegetarians, and my father knew that animals needed non-vegetarian food for proper nutrition and growth. Therefore, my father was strictly against having a pet. That evening when my father came back home, I asked him for a pet dog. After listening to my request, he said a clear no. Chances to design clothes for adults. B On Mondays, two of my children get ready for school in an unusual way. Forest school: a fine place for my kids C On Grytviken island in the South Atlantic Ocean lies the South Georgia Museum, one of the most remote museums in the world. A. Animals. B. People. C. Travel. D. News. D In conversations with strangers, people commonly tend to think they should speak less than half the conversation time to be likable. A. Several days later, while I was walking in a park near my house, I saw a homeless puppy who was in pain because of an injured ear. He looked weak and sad.
