Birds struggled against the wind, and some familiar faces were nowhere to be seen. When we came back down to the warm, bright bookshop, it felt like stepping below decks (甲板) on a sailing ship. Bookshops have weathered (平安渡过) a storm of online competition, business rates and parking charges for years, and they’re here to stay. It has, however, made me appreciate my job even more — I’ve been selling books on the shop floor for 36 years — and the customers, from the eager few coming on the day we opened to the joyful children discovering the rocking horses, seem to feel the same way. “We all become stories,” as Canadian poet Margaret Atwood once said, and the same is true of bookshops. When we talk about our favourite bookshops, we’ll mention the cat, the nice coffee, or the knowledgeable staff. Book-ish, a bookstore I recently came across after getting lost in a Welsh storm, has old typewriters lined up above the bookcases, all donated by locals. It’s a reminder of how a community can take a bookshop to its heart. Bookshops offer more than just books. They are places where we can escape from the pressures of the outside world. Recently, a woman in her mid-60s was buying a modern novel when a dreamy look came over her. “I wonder if The Silver Sword is still in print?” she asked. I’m the same age, and we both felt a strong connection to the story of the refugee (避难者) in wartime Warsaw who kept his parents’ paper knife — the “silver sword” — in a shoebox. She was surprised to hear that the book is still uplifting children who are going through difficult times, just like the characters in the book. Whatever storms life may throw our way, bookshops will forever be a refuge where it’s always safe and warm. 4. Why does the author mention the outdoor scene at the beginning? A. To describe an open-air event on the roof. B. To emphasise the importance of poetry readings. C. To reflect the inviting atmosphere inside the bookstore. D. To show the author’s shared passion with Lemn Sissay. 5. What can be inferred about the author’s attitude towards bookshops? A. He is hopeful about their future.  B. He is doubtful about their survival. C. He is indifferent to their changes.  D. He is worried about online competition. 6. What does the presence of old typewriters at Book-ish symbolize? A. The bookstore’s effort to preserve history. B. The importance of donations to the bookstore. C. The community’s deep connection with the store. D. The art of integrating the past with the present. 7. What might be a suitable title for the text? A.  The Silver Sword: A Story of Hope B. Open-Air Poetry: A Rooftop Discussion C. Bookstores: A Warm Place for Literary Inspiration D. Bookshops: A Precious Shelter from Life’s Storms 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段“It was blowing a strong wind when I took Lemn Sissay up to my bookshop roof to talk about open-air poetry readings. Birds struggled against the wind, and some familiar faces were nowhere to be seen. When we came back down to the warm, bright bookshop, it felt like stepping below decks (甲板) on a sailing ship.( 当我带莱姆·西赛去书店屋顶讨论户外诗歌朗诵活动时,风正劲吹。 根据第二段“Bookshops have weathered (平安渡过) a storm of online competition, business rates and parking charges for years, and they’re here to stay. It has, however, made me appreciate my job even more — I’ve been selling books on the shop floor for 36 years — and the customers, from the eager few coming on the day we opened to the joyful children discovering the rocking horses, seem to feel the same way.( 书店多年来一直经受着网络竞争、商业税和停车费用的冲击,但它们依然屹立不倒。然而,这也让我更加珍视自己的工作——我在门店营业区卖书已有36年,而顾客们,从开业当天满怀期待的少数人,到发现摇马的快乐孩童,似乎都同样感受到这份情感。)”以及最后一段“Whatever storms life may throw our way, bookshops will forever be a refuge where it’s always safe and warm.( 无论生活如何向我们抛来风暴,书店永远都是一个安全而温暖的庇护所。)” 根据第三段中“Book-ish, a bookstore I recently came across after getting lost in a Welsh storm, has old typewriters lined up above the bookcases, all donated by locals. It’s a reminder of how a community can take a bookshop to its heart.( 我最近在威尔士的风暴中迷路后,偶然发现了一家名为“Book-ish”的书店,它的书架上方排列着旧式打字机,全部由当地居民捐赠。这让我想起一个社区如何将书店深深融入心中。)”可知,旧打字机是当地居民情感的载体,象征着社区与书店之间深厚的情感联结。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文以及最后一段“Whatever storms life may throw our way, bookshops will forever be a refuge where it’s always safe and warm.( 无论生活如何向我们抛来风暴,书店永远都是一个安全而温暖的庇护所。)” Bookshops: A Precious Shelter from Life’s Storms“书店:抵御人生风暴的珍贵庇护所”既呼应了文中反复出现的“storm”意象,也准确概括了“书店是温暖避风港”的核心主旨,适合作为文章的标题。 C Outdoor adventurers pour into Browns Canyon National Monument to paddle (划水) through the whitewater rapids of the Arkansas River, hike among the trees and admire wildlife like golden eagles. Now, the 21,586-acre protected area in central Colorado is also hoping to attract another kind of visitor: stargazers (观星者). Last December, Browns Canyon National Monument became a certified (认证的) International Dark Sky Park, a title given for its clear, dark skies and lack of light pollution. The certification comes from DarkSky International, a nonprofit that promotes dark-sky protection and education efforts around the world. Since 2001, the group has certified more than 200 Dark Sky Places in 22 countries, covering more than 62,000 square miles of recognized dark areas. Browns Canyon National Monument sits between 7,300 and 10,000 feet above sea level, and it’s located about 100 miles from the nearest large city, Colorado Springs. These factors, coupled with the state’s dry climate, made Browns Canyon “naturally suited” for night sky viewing. However, the national monument had to make an effort to meet DarkSky International’s strict standards. For example, some of the lights used in the park’s campsites were contributing too much light pollution. After months of trial and error, the staff designed a shield (挡板) to prevent light from shining upward onto the sky. Experts say light pollution is a growing problem around the globe. A 2023 study found that thanks to artificial lighting, the night sky got 9.6 percent brighter, on average, each year between 2011 and 2022. That extra brightness not only makes it more difficult to see stars and planets, but is also affecting animal behavior and human health. “There are very good reasons to protect dark skies for astronomy,” said Kim Arcand, a visualization scientist, “but it all comes back to those same questions humans have been asking for thousands of years: Where do we come from? Why are we here? And where are we going?” 8. What do we know about DarkSky International? A. It supports dark sky care.  B. It certifies national parks. C. It designs eco-friendly lighting.  D. It educates people on stargazing. 9. What makes Browns Canyon National Monument an ideal stargazing spot? A. Its natural beauty.  B. Its height and size. C. Its excellent facilities.  D. Its location and climate. 10. What was a problem the staff at Browns Canyon had to address? A. Lack of visitors.   B. Light pollution. C. Insufficient campgrounds.  D. Limited nighttime activities. 11. What do Kim Arcand’s words suggest about dark sky protection? A. It encourages deep thinking about humans.  B. It strengthens community connections. C. It advances technological progress.  D. It is important for animal health. A 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第三段中“The certification comes from DarkSky International, a nonprofit that promotes dark-sky protection and education efforts around the world.( 该认证来自非营利组织国际暗夜协会(DarkSky International),该组织致力于全球范围内的暗夜保护与教育工作)”可知,该组织致力于推动暗夜保护与相关科普工作,也就是支持暗夜保护事业。 根据第四段“Browns Canyon National Monument sits between 7,300 and 10,000 feet above sea level, and it’s located about 100 miles from the nearest large city, Colorado Springs. These factors, coupled with the state’s dry climate, made Browns Canyon “naturally suited” for night sky viewing.( 布朗斯峡谷国家纪念地位于海拔7,300至10,000英尺之间,距离最近的大城市科罗拉多斯普林斯约100英里。这些因素加上该州干燥的气候,使布朗斯峡谷“天然适合”夜间星空观测)”可知,布朗斯峡谷国家纪念地成为理想的观星地点的核心优势是其地理位置和气候条件。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“For example, some of the lights used in the park’s campsites were contributing too much light pollution. After months of trial and error, the staff designed a shield (挡板) to prevent light from shining upward onto the sky.( 例如,公园露营地使用的部分灯具造成了过多的光污染。经过数月的反复试验,工作人员设计出一种遮光罩,以防止光线向上照射到天空)”可知,为达到认证标准,园区必须解决营地灯具造成的光污染问题,工作人员最终设计出挡光板来避免光线射向天空,因此需要解决的核心问题是光污染。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““There are very good reasons to protect dark skies for astronomy,” said Kim Arcand, a visualization scientist, “but it all comes back to those same questions humans have been asking for thousands of years: Where do we come from? Why are we here? And where are we going?”(“保护黑暗天空以支持天文观测有充分的理由,”可视化科学家金·阿坎德表示,“但这一切最终都回到人类数千年来一直思考的问题:我们从何而来?我们为何存在?我们将去往何方?”)”可推知,金·阿坎德表示暗夜保护最终会回归到人类数千年来一直在追问的本源问题:我们从何而来、为何存在、去往何方。这说明暗夜保护能引发人们关于人类自身的深度思考。 D Scientists have developed an innovative “electronic soil (or e-soil)” that significantly improves crop growth. This breakthrough, achieved by researchers from Linkoping University in Sweden, concentrates on soilless farming, commonly known as hydroponics. “The world population is increasing, and we also have climate change. So it’s clear that we won’t be able to cover the food demands of the planet with only the already existing agricultural methods,” says Professor Eleni Stavrinidou, leader of the Electronic Plants group at the university. “But with hydroponics, we can also grow food in city environments in very controlled settings.” Hydroponic farming lets plants grow without soil. It only needs water, nutrients (营养物), and a material for roots to hold onto. This closed system makes it easy to reuse water and give plants the right nutrients. It uses very little water and keeps all nutrients inside — a feat that can’t be achieved in traditional farming. The researchers say hydroponics is also good for vertical (垂直的) farming in tall buildings, which saves space. Right now, it’s used for crops and some vegetables. Grains aren’t usually grown this way, except to feed animals. In their research, the researchers successfully grew barley seedlings (大麦幼苗) in a hydroponic way, strengthened by electrical shocks. Their research shows that barley seedlings grown in this conductive material and given electric shocks at the roots grew up to 50% more over 15 days. “In this way, we can get seedlings to grow faster with fewer resources. We don’t yet know how it actually works or what biology behind it is,” Prof. Stavrinidou notes. Unlike previous research that used stronger shocks, this new “soil” uses less energy and is safer. “We can’t say hydroponics will solve the food problem. But it can really help, especially in places with little farmland and bad weather. And with our new ‘electronic soil’, hydroponics will work even better,” Prof. Stavrinidou says. 12. What is a key advantage of hydroponics? A. It solves the local food security problem. B. It allows crop production in urban settings. C. It is taking the place of vertical farming. D. It requires large areas of rich land. 13. What do the underlined words “a feat” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. A representation.  B. A balance.  C. A decision.  D. An achievement. 14. What is the main effect of the “electronic soil” on barley seedlings? A. It increases their growth.  B. It improves their survival rates. C. It helps with nutrient processing.  D. It significantly reduces water usage. 15. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To analyze the factors affecting crop growth. B. To discuss the environmental impact of e-soil. C. To introduce a breakthrough in soilless farming. D. To compare hydroponics with traditional agriculture. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段中“But with hydroponics, we can also grow food in city environments in very controlled settings.(但有了水培技术,我们也可以在城市环境中进行受控种植。)” 根据第三段中“Hydroponic farming lets plants grow without soil. It only needs water, nutrients (营养物), and a material for roots to hold onto. This closed system makes it easy to reuse water and give plants the right nutrients. It uses very little water and keeps all nutrients inside…(水培农业使植物无需土壤即可生长,只需水、养分以及根部固定用的材料。这种封闭系统便于水资源循环利用,并为植物提供合适的营养。它耗水量极低,且所有养分都保留在系统内……)”可知,水培封闭系统可实现水资源循环利用、精准供给养分、耗水量极低且养分无流失,这是传统农业无法做到的。由此可推断“a feat”指代前文描述的成果,意为“一项成就、功绩”,与D选项An achievement“一项成就”含义相近。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Their research shows that barley seedlings grown in this conductive material and given electric shocks at the roots grew up to 50% more over 15 days.(他们的研究表明,在这种导电材料中种植的大麦幼苗,在根部施加电击后,15天内生长量最多高出50%。)” 根据文章大意以及第一段中“Scientists have developed an innovative “electronic soil (or e-soil)” that significantly improves crop growth.(科学家们研发出一种创新的“电子土壤”(即e-soil),能显著促进作物生长。)” If someone was telling me that doing any sort of physical activity makes you happier, I would have laughed in their face, thinking “You feel tired after doing sports, not happy.” ____16____ After a few months of cycling on a daily basis, my friends and family said I look happier and more optimistic. Plus, cycling saves me time. When I bought my first bike, I did it thinking that I’d only ride it during weekends, or whenever I felt the need to disconnect from technology or the work I had to do. ____17____ After a while, though, I said to myself one morning “Why not ride to work?” It used to take me nearly one hour to get to work by car. Now, the same distance only takes me around 40 minutes on a bike. ____18____ However, what I get is more than the 20 minutes. As I ride my way to work, I find myself absorbed in the beautiful sights and sounds that nature offers. Gone are the days of anxiously inching forward in a traffic jam. Another unexpected bonus is related to money. Before I bought my first bike, I spent more than £300 every month on gas for my car. I didn’t even think about it back then. ____19____ Obviously, I don’t share the same opinion today. Cycling has helped me save a great deal of money during the past few years. I even saved all the money I used to spend on gas in a piggy bank. I was surprised to find out after more than one year how much money I’d raised. ____20____ A. I know it’s not a big difference. B. Well, I’ve changed my opinion. C. This is how it all started actually. D. You may wonder why bikes are faster than cars. E. Car gas is a big part of my monthly expense actually. F. I considered this “normal” and something that “had to be done”. G. Happy to say I’ve recently spent all of it on home decorations. B 17. C 18. A 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 空前“If someone was telling me that doing any sort of physical activity makes you happier, I would have laughed in their face, thinking “You feel tired after doing sports, not happy.”(要是当初有人告诉我,做任何体育运动都能让人更快乐,我肯定会当面嘲笑他,心想:“你运动后感觉累,而不是开心。”)”提到作者原本认为运动只会让人疲惫不会快乐,空后“After a few months of cycling on a daily basis, my friends and family said I look happier and more optimistic.(经过几个月每天坚持骑行,我的朋友和家人都说我看起来更快乐、更乐观了)”说日常骑行几个月后亲友发现作者更快乐乐观,B项“我已经改变了看法”承上启下,符合语境。 【17题详解】 空前“When I bought my first bike, I did it thinking that I’d only ride it during weekends, or whenever I felt the need to disconnect from technology or the work I had to do.(我买第一辆自行车时,以为自己只会在周末,或在需要远离科技或工作的时候骑它)”提到作者最初买自行车只打算周末骑来脱离工作和电子设备,空后“After a while, though, I said to myself one morning “Why not ride to work?”(不过过了一段时间,一天早上我对自己说:“为什么不骑车上班呢?”)” 【18题详解】 空前“It used to take me nearly one hour to get to work by car. Now, the same distance only takes me around 40 minutes on a bike.(以前开车去上班要将近一个小时,现在骑自行车走同样的路程只需大约40分钟)”提到开车上班要近1小时,骑车只需40分钟,空后“However, what I get is more than the 20 minutes.(不过,我得到的远不止20分钟)”转折说作者收获的远不止这20分钟,A项“我知道这差距不大”对应20分钟的时间差,和后文的转折逻辑适配。 【19题详解】 空前“Before I bought my first bike, I spent more than £300 every month on gas for my car. I didn’t even think about it back then.(在我买第一辆自行车之前,每个月为汽车加油要花超过300英镑。那时候我甚至都没想过这个问题)”提到作者之前每月花300多英镑在汽油上,当时根本没在意,F项“我觉得这是‘常态’,是‘必须做的事’”承接之前对油费支出毫不在意的状态,和后文“Obviously, I don’t share the same opinion today.(显然,我今天并不认同这种观点)”现在的观念形成对比。 【20题详解】 空前“I even saved all the money I used to spend on gas in a piggy bank. I was surprised to find out after more than one year how much money I’d raised.(我甚至把以前用来买汽油的钱都存进了零用钱罐里。一年多后,我惊讶地发现自己存这么多钱)”提到作者把原本花在油费上的钱存起来,一年多后惊讶攒下不少钱,G项“很高兴我最近把这笔钱全花在了家居装饰上”顺承存钱后的后续安排,收束该段内容。 第三部分、语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 The sound of my mother cooking breakfast is a familiar tune that fills the house. He walked towards the strange-looking object. When he got closer, Benny realized that it was a worn-out balloon. He also noticed that there was something attached to it — a little girl’s birthday wish list. The note, written in the untidy handwriting of a child, read, “My name is Laura. I am six years old. I have been good this year. I wish to have chocolates, a doll and a pet dog. Love, Laura.” Reading the wish list brought back Benny’s childhood memories. As a child, he had always written similar lists, hoping his wishes would come true on his birthday. However, he was always disappointed because none of his wishes were ever fulfilled. Holding Laura’s note excitedly, Benny formed a plan in his mind. He wanted to find Laura and make her wishes come true, so she would not experience the same disappointment he had. He knew many people had found others with the help of social media. Therefore, Benny posted a photo of the balloon and the wish list on social media. To ensure that his efforts would bear fruit, he even posted a video of himself, asking the online community to help him find the little girl. At first, he was not confident that the strategy would work. Gradually, the number of people sharing his post grew to hundreds. Despite the positive start, Benny’s hopes of finding Laura without any specific details grew weaker with each passing day. He felt like he was looking for a needle in a haystack (干草堆). Fortunately, he found a ray of hope when he received a message from Diana, a friend of Laura’s mother. Diana shared that Laura’s family was poor and struggled to cover daily expenses. To cheer up the family, Laura’s mother had encouraged her to write her birthday wishes on a note, tie it to a balloon and let it fly, hoping kind people might notice her little wishes. Together, Benny and Diana worked out a plan to surprise Laura and make her wishes come true.  __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Soon, the day of the surprise finally arrived.  __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Together, Benny and Diana worked out a plan to surprise Laura and make her wishes come true. Benny went to the store, and selected a box filled with different kinds of chocolates. Next, he headed to the toy section and carefully chose a doll with long hair. Meanwhile, Diana contacted the local animal shelter. She explained Laura’s heartfelt wish for a dog, and the shelter staff, touched by the story, set out to find the ideal puppy. They found a cute one with bright, curious eyes. Soon, the day of the surprise finally arrived. Benny and Diana were nervous as they did not know if Laura would like the surprise. Laura shouted in delight when she saw Benny and Diana entering her house with the gifts that she had wished for. Benny breathed a sigh of relief. Even though it was a simple gesture, being able to help Laura fulfil her wishes warmed Benny’s heart. At that moment, it was as if through Laura, he was experiencing the joyous morning he had always longed for as a child. 词汇激活 行为类 ①挑选:select/pick out ②如释重负:breathe a sigh of relief/let out a sigh of relief 情绪类 ①紧张:nervous/tense ②高兴:delight/happiness/joy 【点睛】[高分句型 1] Benny and Diana were nervous as they did not know if Laura would like the surprise. Bookshops: A Precious Shelter from Life’s Storms C Outdoor adventurers pour into Browns Canyon National Monument to paddle (划水) through the whitewater rapids of the Arkansas River, hike among the trees and admire wildlife like golden eagles. D Scientists have developed an innovative “electronic soil (or e-soil)” that significantly improves crop growth. 注意: 续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Together, Benny and Diana worked out a plan to surprise Laura and make her wishes come true.  __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Soon, the day of the surprise finally arrived.  __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
