Unit 5 Fun Clubs — Lesson 1 教学设计

I. Basic Course Information

 

1. Subject: English.

2. Grade: Grade 7.

3. Term: Autumn.

4. Topic: Unit 5 Fun Clubs, Lesson 1, Section A 1a–1d, Pronunciation.

5. Lesson Type: Listening, speaking and pronunciation lesson.

6. Duration: 1 period.

7. Teaching Aids: Multimedia courseware, audio recording, pictures of clubs, word cards, role-play cards and evaluation checklist.

 

 II. Teaching Objectives

 

1. Students can talk about the names of different school clubs in English.

2. Students can capture and record key information such as club names and abilities while listening.

3. Students can have a preliminary understanding of different sentence patterns with can to express ability.

4. Students can use What can you do? I can ... and Can you ...? to talk about joining a club and personal abilities.

5. Students can understand that interest, ability and time are all important

when choosing a club.

6. Students can pronounce the consonant sounds /p/, /b/, /t/ and /k/ correctly in club names and related words.

 

III. Teaching Key and Difficult Points

 

1. Key Points: Club names; ability phrases such as play ping-pong, play Chinese chess, act, sing, dance, draw; listening for club names and abilities; using can to talk about ability.

2. Difficult Points: Recording key information while listening; inferring whether a person can join a club; using can accurately in questions and answers; pronouncing /p/, /b/, /t/ and /k/ correctly.

 IV. Teaching Procedures

 

 Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)

 

1. The teacher shows the theme picture of the unit and asks: What are the students doing? What club are they in? What can you see in the picture?

2. Students observe the picture and describe the students’ activities.

3. Students guess the name of the club, such as the robot club.

4. The teacher asks: What clubs do you know in our school? and invites students to brainstorm club names.

5. Purpose: To activate students’ prior knowledge, develop observation skills and lead students into the topic of school clubs.

 

Step 2: Vocabulary and Pronunciation (10 minutes)

 

1. The teacher shows the six pictures in activity 1a and asks students to describe what the people are doing.

2. Students learn and practise ability phrases such as play ping-pong, play Chinese chess, act, sing, dance and draw.

3. The teacher gives an example: I can play ping-pong. Then the teacher asks: What can you do? and guides students to answer: I can ...

4. Students work in pairs and ask each other: What can you do? I can ...

5. The teacher leads students to read the club names in activity 1a and draws attention to the consonant sounds /p/, /b/, /t/ and /k/.

6. Students practise the consonant sounds through the club names and related words.

7. The teacher uses a quick picture flash game. Students say the corresponding club name aloud as quickly as possible.

8. Purpose: To help students learn ability phrases and club names, perceive the target sounds, and prepare for listening.
