It has been another long, rough winter here in the mountains of my home. And today, as I looked at the broken 1 littering my yard, it brought back 2 from another rough winter several years ago.
A foot of snow had fallen and was rapidly melting. The 3 from the hills had expanded (扩大) the rivers, filled the channels and 4 puddles (小水洼) in the road. In addition to this, broken and fallen tree branches were everywhere. I was driving home and suddenly saw one of these branches had broken off a tree overhanging the road and fallen across it. It was big enough to damage my car if I didn’t stop in time so I 5 on the brake (刹车) and hit my emergency flashers.
I got out of my car 6 and tried to pull the branch to the side of the road. This branch was a lot 7 than I thought it would be. Inch by inch I 8 it off the road. When it was finally safely moved to the side, I stood up and smiled. Just then a little red car raced around the curve, hit a pool of water in the road, which splashed (溅湿) my pants. I shook my head and laughed at the 9 of it all.
Sometimes we all do good things in this life only to get “rewarded” with dirty water for our kindness. When this happens, just remember that the real reason you do good is because of the 10 inside of you.

Nowadays, it seems that everyone, especially teenagers, is connected through social media like WeChat, Douyin, and Weibo. While these platforms help us keep in touch with friends and see the world, many are starting to ask: are we really benefiting, or is it doing more harm than good?
On the one hand, supporters argue that social media is a powerful tool for learning and connection. It allows young people to access news instantly, join online study groups, and learn new skills from tutorials. It also helps shy students make friends online more easily, reducing loneliness. For example, during the pandemic, it was the only way for many to stay connected with classmates.
On the other hand, critics point out serious problems. The biggest worry is its effect on mental health. Seeing the perfect lives others post can make teens feel anxious and unhappy with their own. Comparing themselves to others online often leads to low self-esteem. Moreover, the “like” and “comment” features can become addictive (上瘾的). Teens may spend hours waiting for others’ approval instead of talking to family or playing outside. This can harm their real-life relationships and physical health. A recent survey showed that teens who spend over 5 hours a day on social media are 50% more likely to report feeling unhappy.
In conclusion, social media itself is not good or bad—it’s how we use it that matters. It is like a knife, useful in the kitchen but dangerous if used wrongly. The key is to find a balance. We should encourage young people to use it for creativity and learning, not just for endless scrolling. Parents and schools need to teach digital literacy: how to use these tools wisely, how to tell real information from fake, and most importantly, when to turn off the phone and enjoy the real world.
11.According to Paragraph 2, which is NOT mentioned as an advantage of social media?
A.Getting news quickly. B.Helping shy students make friends.
C.Learning skills from online videos. D.Improving family relationships.
12.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A.The benefits of online study groups. B.The problems caused by social media.
C.The popularity of different platforms. D.The way to improve mental health.
13.Which of the following would the author probably agree with?
A.Teenagers should never use social media.
B.The advantages of social media outweigh the disadvantages.
C.Learning to use social media wisely and moderately is important.
D.Social media is the main cause of all teenage problems.
【答案】11.D 12.B 13.C
【导语】文章探讨了社交媒体对青少年的利弊,指出其既能帮助学习和社交,也可能影响心理健康,强调关键在于明智适度地使用。
【详解】11.细节理解题。根据文章第2段“It allows young people to access news instantly...learn new skills from tutorials. It also helps shy students make friends online...”可知文中提到了快速获取新闻、学习技能和帮助害羞学生交朋友,未提及改善家庭关系。
12.主旨大意题。根据文章第3段“On the other hand, critics point out serious problems.”及后续关于心理健康和成瘾的描述可知,本段主要列举了社交媒体带来的负面影响和问题。
13.观点态度题。根据文章第4段“it’s how we use it that matters...The key is to find a balance...use these tools wisely”可知作者认为使用方式很重要,强调明智且适度地使用社交媒体。

Adults never understand anything on their own, and it is tiring for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another job and learned to fly planes. I lived my life alone, with no one I could really talk to, until I had an accident with my plane in the Sahara desert six years ago. Something was wrong with my plane. As I had nobody else with me, I decided to try the difficult repairs all alone.
The first night, I slept on the sand, far away from people’s living places. I felt quite lonely. You can imagine my surprise, at sunrise, when a strange little voice woke me up. It said, “If you please, draw me a sheep!”
“What?” I shouted, jumping to my feet, completely surprised. I looked carefully all around me. I saw a special small person standing there, looking at me seriously. He was hardly taller than a rosebush.
Before I could speak, he repeated, “Draw me a sheep!”
I had never drawn a sheep before, but I was so surprised and lonely that I did as he asked. I drew a simple sheep, but he shook his head. I tried many times, but he was not happy. Soon I grew tired. “I don’t know how to draw sheep any more,” I said, handing him a piece of paper with nothing on it. “Here’s a box. The sheep you want is inside it.”
To my surprise, his face lit up, “That’s just what I need! Does it eat a lot of grass?”
“Of course. Why do you ask?”
“Because where I live, everything is very small. I need a sheep that won’t eat all my roses.”
Roses. The word made me think of the time I was six. I found a book named True Stories from Nature, and there was a picture of a huge snake swallowing (吞咽) an elephant. I showed it to adults and asked if it made them afraid. They said they weren’t afraid of the hat. I explained it was a huge snake with an elephant inside. But they told me to stop talking about snakes and elephants. They said I should focus on my spelling and maths. That’s when I realized adults never see the true meaning of things. I put away my drawing and decided not to explain anything to them any more.
The little prince pulled me back to the present, “Will you promise the sheep won’t eat my roses?” “I promise,” I said. And in that moment, I knew I had finally found someone I could talk to.

C
①Have you ever noticed that some kids love going to big parties or hanging out with a group of friends, while others prefer to stay at home, read a book, or just enjoy their peaceful time? Well, there’s a reason for that! It has to do with your personality.
②Psychologists (心理学家) say there are two main kinds of people: E-people and I-people. Let me tell you what they’re like.
③E-people love being around other people. They feel energized when they’re with friends, going to parties, or doing fun group activities. For them, happiness is all about sharing laughs, stories, and exciting things with others.
④I-people like quiet time. They feel more relaxed and happy when they’re alone, doing things like reading, drawing, or just watching movies. They don’t need a lot of people around to feel good. They just need themselves and their favorite activities.
⑤But here’s the cool thing: Neither way is better! Both E-people and I-people can be happy, as long as they do what they enjoy. It’s like finding your favorite taste of ice cream — some people love chocolate, while others love strawberry. Both are great, but it depends on what you like.
⑥The most important thing is to understand yourself and do what makes you happy. Life is about finding what works for you and enjoying every minute. After all, happiness is like a jigsaw (拼图) — each piece is different, but when they fit together, they make your life complete.
⑦So, whether you prefer laughing with friends or enjoying quiet moments alone, accept your true self. Be yourself, and your life will be filled with joy!
18.How does the writer start the passage?

A.To tell people which personality is better.

D.To encourage people to accept themselves and be themselves.
【答案】18.B 19.B 20.C 21.D

In a small village not far from a desert, there lived a young businessman called James. He was quite successful and owned many things, but he still felt unhappy most of the time. The reason was that he had to face endless problems and challenges every day.
One day, a wise old man came to the village. He brought with him 100 camels. People all said that the old man was very clever and could solve almost any problem.
James heard about this and went to visit the old man at once. He said to him, “I am really unhappy with my life. I always have worries about my business, troubles with my family, and problems with my health. Can you please tell me how to make all these bad things go away?”
The old man smiled gently and answered, “I will give you the answer tomorrow morning. But first, could you help me do a small thing?” James agreed right away.
Then the old man asked James to look after all 100 camels for the whole night. He told James that he must make sure every camel sat down and rested well and then James himself could go to sleep.
The next morning, the old man met James and asked how his night was. James looked sad and said, “I did not sleep at all last night. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not make all the camels sit down together. When I tried to make some camels sit on one side, a few other camels would stand up on the other side.”
The old man nodded and said, “That is true. Last night, you could see that some camels sat down by themselves. Some others sat down after you tried a little. But many camels still did not sit down, even when you tried very hard. If you had waited a little longer, you would have found that some camels, which did not sit at first, finally sat down by themselves later.”
James listened carefully and nodded his head.
The old man went on saying, “Problems in life are just like these camels. Some problems will be solved by themselves with time. Some problems can be solved if you put in your effort. And there are also some problems that cannot be solved even if you try your best. For those problems, just leave them to time. When the right time comes, these problems will come to an end on their own.”
After hearing these words, James suddenly understood everything. This lesson completely changed the way he looked at the difficulties and challenges in his life.
22.Why did James feel unhappy most of the time?
A.Because he was not successful enough in running his business.
B.Because he was troubled by plenty of problems every day.
C.Because he didn’t make enough money from his business.
D.Because he wanted to give up his business completely.
23.How might James have felt that night?
A.Afraid. B.Annoyed. C.Bored. D.Excited.
24.How did the old man make James understand his trouble?
A.By letting him care for camels and learn a lesson.
B.By telling him to give up all his business and worries.
C.By solving all his business problems for him in person.
D.By explaining the scientific reasons behind problems.
25.What’s the best title for the text?
A.A Wise Old Man B.A Sleepless Night
C.Problems Are Just Like Camels D.James’s Search for Happiness
【答案】22.B 23.B 24.A 25.C

第三部分 信息还原(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Is “never give up” always a good rule for children? 26 But others believe that knowing when to give up is also important.
People who support the “never give up” idea say that “never give up” helps children succeed. When children keep trying at a difficult task, they build strong will and confidence. For example, if a child keeps practising maths problems and finally works them out, he will feel proud of himself. 27
28 Some experts say that forcing children to keep trying at something they are not good at may hurt their confidence. If a child is very short and spends years practising basketball but never improves, he may feel like a failure. 29
In my opinion, the situation decides the answer. If the task is meaningful and the child can improve with practice, we should encourage them to hold on. But if the goal is impossible or makes the child very unhappy, it is okay to give up and try something new. 30
A.In this case, it is wiser to give up and find something that suits them better.
B.This spirit will help them face bigger challenges in the future.
C.Many people think that children should learn to keep trying.
D.The most important thing is to help children learn to make good decisions for themselves.
E.However, not everyone agrees.
F.But parents should encourage him to keep trying.
G.However, if it is too difficult, he can give up.

【详解】26.前文“Is ‘never give up’ always a good rule for children?”询问永不放弃是否对孩子永远适用,后文“But others believe that knowing when to give up is also important.”表示转折,说有些人认为懂得何时放弃同样重要,空处应与空后的观点相反。填选项C“许多人认为,孩子应该学会坚持不懈地尝试”形成对比结构,承上启下,符合语境。
27.前文“For example, if a child keeps practising maths problems and finally works them out, he will feel proud of himself.”举例说孩子坚持刷题解出题目会感到自豪,空处应总结关于坚持的结论。填选项B“这种精神将帮助他们在未来面对更大的挑战”讲坚持不懈的精神带来的好处,符合语境。
28.后文“Some experts say that forcing children to keep trying at something they are not good at may hurt their confidence.”说强求不擅长的事会打击自信,因此本段的主题与上一段观点相反。填选项E“但是,不是所有人都认同”开启另一方的论述,符合语境。
29.前文“If a child is very short and spends years practising basketball but never improves, he may feel like a failure.”举例说个子很矮的孩子长年练篮球却没有进步容易有挫败感,空处应总结关于放弃的结论。填选项A“在这种情况下,最好放弃,找一个更适合他们的东西”符合语境。
30.本段的主题“In my opinion, the situation decides the answer.”是应视情况而定,且前文提到了坚持和放弃两种情况,空处应收尾升华,点明核心。填选项D“最重要的是帮助孩子学会为自己做出正确的决定”符合语境。

Li finds joy in decluttering. “One of my clients (客户) impressed me a lot. She found us and said that her messy room was giving her a bad mood,” Li said. After discussing their decluttering plan, Li and her team spent three days finishing their work.
They started by emptying all the closets (橱柜), finding the items the client really needed. They also improved the layout (布局) of the closets, adding more boxes to better classify items. “There were so many clothes that we had to sit on the floor during our lunch break as this was the only free space,” Li said. Growing up is like walking up steps—each step brings me closer to a better self. When I entered Grade 9, I faced a big challenge. I found math much harder than before and often failed exams. I felt stressed and wanted to give up.
However, I decided to change. I asked my teacher for advice and made a study plan. I spent more time practicing exercises every day. Gradually, my grades improved.
