二、阅读理解(40分)
From the moment we are born, our brains are filled with a lot of information. So, how do we hold on to everything we’ve learned?
Hermann Ebbinghaus ran a study and found something interesting in 1885. He summarized his findings in a theory known as the “forgetting curve (曲线)”. The curve shows how information is lost over time if people do nothing to remember it. The stronger the memory is, the longer a person is able to remember it. People may forget newly learned things in days or weeks if they don’t review them.
Short-term memories last seconds to hours, while long-term memories last for years. Students can turn a short-term memory into a long-term memory by ▲ . The more times they review it, the longer they’ll keep it in their brains.
First, use “spaced learning”. By reviewing new information at key moments on the curve, you can reduce the rate (比率) at which you forget it!
Second, practise “overlearning”—that is, putting in more than the usual amount of effort when you learn something.
Third, make information meaningful. Try to make what you need to learn clear and purposeful, and find a strong reason for remembering it.
Lastly, keep challenging your memory. If you come to review some information and discover gaps (空白) in your memory, don’t give up!

A new study warns that artificial intelligence (AI) systems tend to give too many agreeable replies, which could negatively affect how people solve interpersonal (人际的) problems and social conflicts (矛盾).
To study this, researchers evaluated (评估)11 large language models (LLMs), including ChatGPT and Gemini. They gave LLMs thousands of harmful actions, such as illegal or dishonest behavior. They also gave the models 2,000 requests based on real online posts. In these cases, the original writer was generally considered wrong. The results were striking. On average, the AI models agreed with the user 49% more often than humans did. Even more worrying, the LLMs supported harmful or bad behavior 47% of the time. This suggests that AI tools do not stay fair or objective. Instead, they tend to agree with users, even if users hold wrong opinions.
The team then had over 2,400 people chat with both overly agreeable and normal AI models. People in the study considered the agreeable replies as more reliable, which strengthened their own views and made them more likely to use that AI again. Interestingly, they thought of both types as equally objective, which showed that they could not see when an AI was being too agreeable.
Why does this happen? One reason is that LLMs hardly say “you are right” directly. Instead, they use objective formal language to indirectly support the user. For example, when a user asked if lying to his girlfriend about losing his job for two years was wrong, the AI replied that his actions were unusual, but it seemed that he really wanted to keep the relationship going, not just for money.
The researchers worry that depending too much on AI for personal advice could stop people from growing as good persons and make them see things in a narrower way. Lead author Myra Cheng warned, “AI makes it really easy to avoid disagreements with other people, but such disagreements can actually help us build healthy relationships.” In fact, AI tells people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. If this continues, people may gradually lose the skills needed to deal with difficult social situations.
16.What do the data in paragraph 2 show?
A.Human judgments are often stricter.
B.Most LLMs support illegal actions.
C.Nearly half of LLMs prefer online posts.
D.AI tends to agree with the users although they are wrong.
17.Which “striking” shares the similar meaning as the one in the passage?
A.She was a striking woman with long straight hair and was impossible to ignore.
B.It sounds striking that the shy boy offered to give a speech in front of the whole school.
C.The striking of the old clock in the hall woke him up from a deep sleep and for a moment he could not remember where he was.
D.Standing on the top of the hill, we were deeply impressed by the striking view of the valley stretching far into the distance.
18.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The AI models agreed with users about 47% more often than humans did.
B.People trusted the agreeable AI replies more and were more willing to use it.
C.The LLMs usually say “you are right” directly when supporting users.
D.People could easily recognize when an AI was being too agreeable.
19.What is discussed in paragraph 4?
A.The major findings.
B.The research method.
C.The long-term effects.
D.The hidden reasons.
20.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To introduce the functions of AI.
B.To explain the development of AI.
C.To warn against the risks of AI advice.
D.To show the conflicts created by AI.

In April 2019, the world saw the first-ever picture of a black hole, a historic moment in space science. The image showed a bright ring of light around a dark center. This black hole lies at the center of the M87 galaxy, about 55 million light-years away from Earth. This great success was made by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). It is a global network of radio telescopes that turns the whole Earth into a large virtual telescope.
By connecting and coordinating (协同) telescopes from Hawaii to the South Pole, scientists finally observed this faraway object. It looks as tiny as a tennis ball on the moon from Earth. The supermassive black hole has a mass (质量) 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. The real picture perfectly matched the predictions from Einstein’s general theory of relativity. It clearly proved that a black hole’s shadow is round. The observation also helped researchers study the black hole’s event horizon, a special boundary where nothing, not even light, can escape its strong gravity.
This amazing achievement was a result of global cooperation. China joined the international project with its Submillimeter Telescope and other related equipment. To capture the rare image, the EHT team gathered data from eight observatories across four continents. They used precise atomic clocks to keep all-telescope signals synchronized. The data volume was extremely large, so researchers could not send it online and had to use hard drives for delivery. After years of careful and difficult data processing, the clear bright ring shape of the black hole finally appeared.
The milestone discovery offers powerful proof for general relativity and confirms that black holes are not just imaginary theoretical objects. The bright ring around the black hole is formed by super-hot gas spinning fast into the black hole, with its light bent by the black hole’s huge gravity. The EHT’s success has created a new method for black hole research. Future scientific tasks will focus on recording videos to show how materials fall into these mysterious cosmic (宇宙的) objects. This historic image satisfies human curiosity about the universe and brings more new questions about the nature of space and time.

21.What can we know about the black hole in the picture?
A.It is 55 million light-years away from the Sun.
B.Its shadow is square in shape.
C.Its mass is far greater than that of the Sun.
D.It lies in the center of the solar system.
22.What does the author mainly want to tell us in paragraph 3?
A.The advanced equipment used in the project. B.The efforts and joint work behind the photo.
C.The long history of international cooperation. D.The reasons why data transmission failed.
23.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Global cooperation played an important role.
B.EHT data can be sent through the Internet easily.
C.The picture fully disagreed with Einstein’s theory.
D.Scientists have made videos of materials falling into black holes.
24.What is the author’s attitude towards the black hole discovery?
A.Doubtful. B.Negative. C.Uncaring. D.Admiring.
25.What is the main idea of the whole passage?
A.The future difficulties of deep-space exploration.
B.Different ways to collect cosmic data by telescopes.
C.The basic rules of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.
D.The process, achievement and significance of the first black hole picture.
