Do you think of white when someone talks about a polar bear? In fact, the polar bear does not have white fur. It just seems to be white when the sun shines on ice. Polar bears have a very good sense of smell. It helps them find food. During summer, polar bears sleep longer, because they are able to find their food more easily at night. Usually, after a meal, polar bears have a short sleep. A polar bear can have 2—3 babies at a time. They live with their mothers until they are about two and a half years old.
However, polar bears will die out soon because of people. There are only 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears in the world. Those polar bears left are trying to survive. The number of them is becoming smaller and smaller because of the loss of sea ice—polar bears mostly live in the sea ice, not the land ice. This is happening because of global warming. It had four black wheels, two black arms and a black and white painted face. The wheels were prepared for the robot to walk on the thick snow easily. This new robot didn’t scare (惊吓) the penguins. They even sang songs to welcome the robot and listened for a response. But the penguins were very unhappy when there was no answer. Great news for nature! The number of Baer’s pochards (青头潜鸭) in China has risen from 1,000 in 2012 to over 2,500 now. These ducks have dark green heads and red eyes, and they are one of the world’s most endangered animals.
In the past, they lived all over East and Southeast Asia. But in the 1900s, people hunted them and they lost their homes, so they almost died out. Today, over 80% of these ducks spend the winter in China. Scientists studied 212 places in 21 Chinese provinces and found that most of the ducks live in 16 important areas, each with at least 30 ducks. Surprisingly, they love small, old fish ponds (池塘) with lots of plants and medium-sized lakes.
People in our country have tried hard to save these ducks. They protected bird flying routes (路线) and improved damaged wetlands (受损湿地). Local people also helped by guarding duck nests and cleaning their living areas. Scientists even put special collars (项圈) on some ducks to learn more about them.
One of the workers said, “We will keep on doing what we are doing. Besides, we will encourage more people to care.” Thanks to these actions, the ducks are increasing in number instead of dying out. We need to remember that protecting nature can stop endangered animals from dying out. Let’s hope these special ducks keep doing well!

Grandma never learned to read or write. When she was young, her family was too poor to send her to school. Now she only remembers how to write a few words, but she always feels happy when she finds one she knows.
Many years ago, she became the grandmother of eight children. She always encouraged us to study. She knew that without learning, it was difficult to succeed.
Luckily, we children didn’t disappoint her. One after another, we grew up and left home to attend university in another city. Before the first granddaughter left home, Mum, Dad, aunts and uncles prepared “going-away” gifts, such as books, pens and even a new mobile phone. Grandma also made something special for her—a pillow (枕头) filled with buckwheat hulls (荞麦壳).
One of her grandsons laughed at the gift. “Grandma,” he said, “young people can buy new pillows. They’re softer and more comfortable than yours. Why did you spend so much time making the pillow?”
Grandma wasn’t angry. She kept working until she finished making the pillow. She gave it to her granddaughter and said with a smile, “Nothing can compare to a good night’s sleep.”
From then on, each child in our family got a handmade pillow from her as a gift. These pillows are filled with her care and love.

Everyone loves a good holiday. But what makes a holiday truly wonderful? Here is a survey (调查) of 1000 students.
First, many students said trying new activities is important. This doesn’t mean you have to travel far. You could try a new sport in your local park or learn to cook a new dish at home. These new experiences make holidays more interesting.
Second, most students agreed that spending time with family and friends is key. Holidays are a great time to strengthen your relationships. Play games together, share stories, or just talk. These moments often become our favourite memories.
Finally, about 70% of the students pointed out that helping others can bring special joy. You could visit old people in your community or help clean up a park. Helping others not only makes them happy but also makes you feel good about yourself.
So, remember: try something new, spend time with loved ones, and help others. These three things can turn any holiday into a wonderful one.

Besides, they also have to face pollution, hunting and so on.

Scientists are creating robots that can be used in many different areas of life. Recently a new kind of robot which looks like a penguin has been developed. The penguin robot helps scientists get closer to emperor penguins (帝企鹅) to know more about their behaviour (行为).
Emperor penguins are famous as shy animals. They usually feel nervous and run away when scientists go towards them. This will cause problems to their hearts. To solve it, a team of scientists created a remote control vehicle (遥控车). This vehicle allowed the scientists to study the penguins from over 200 metres away. It could move up to the penguins slowly and quietly without making them run away. It was also used to help make the documentary (纪录片) March of the Penguins.
The scientists still wanted to watch emperor penguins much closer. After trying many times, they developed their latest robot which was like a little grey penguin. When I was in Grade 8, I had a heated argument with my classmate, Tony. I have forgotten what the argument was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson I learned that day.
I believed that I was right and he was wrong, and Tony believed that I was wrong and he was right. Our teacher, a kind and smart lady, decided to teach us a lesson. She brought us to the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the middle of her desk was a large and round object. I could clearly see that it was black. The teacher asked us what color the object was. “White,” Tony answered. I couldn’t believe he said the object was white! “Clearly, it was black!” Another argument started between Tony and me, this time about the color of the object.
The teacher told me to go and stand where Tony was standing and told him to go and stand where I was standing. We changed places, and now she asked me what color the object was. I had to answer, “White.” It was an object with two differently colored sides from his side; it was white, while from my side it was black. “Boys, now, what do you say?” The teacher smiled at us. Tony has been my best friend ever since.

①As Daddy’s only daughter, I knew what made my daddy more wonderful than all the other fathers-his large hands.
②Daddy had long deft(灵活的) fingers that could make lots of paper toys for me to play with. His hands could tie my hair beautifully. That was why I felt happy when the other students talked about my hairstyle. I kept it to myself for years. His hands could paint a second-hand bike to look new. I got one on my tenth birthday.
③Daddy’s creative hands were also useful and hard-working. They could fly a kite high in the sky and get it down from the top of a tree. They could wash my white dress clean, which became my favourite one. To my surprise, the hands fed seven children after Mom died. Daddy always tried his best to do everything for me.
④Not only were Daddy’s hands great, but they could also send me a note full of love. When I was ill, he made me feel better. He would take a small blanket(毯子), warm it up and wrap it around my small cold feet with his loving hands. When I was worried about something, Daddy would often hand me a cup of hot milk and talk with me. He would say, “The best is always to come, my dear.” to console me.

“It is very simple,” the teacher answered, “Get me that red apple from the highest branch (树枝) of the tree.”
Tom looked up and said, “It’s too high! I can’t reach it.”
“Ask a friend. Maybe he can help,” the teacher suggested.
Tom called another student and stood on his shoulders to reach the branch. “I still can’t reach it, sir,” said Tom sadly after the first try.

前一句“I usually fold my own clothes and sort out my school things”使用usually表示“通常”,描述经常性家务;本句是补充说明偶尔会做的家务,存在频次上的区分,应选用Sometimes。Often“经常”,和usually语义重复;Though“虽然”,All“全部”,放在此处语义不通顺。
6.句意:我们一起干活。
根据后文“My sister decorated the windows with paper-cuts. I sorted old books and packed up useless things”,姐姐、“我”分工合作,全家人共同动手布置房间,应选用together。
because“因为”表原因,while“当……

In ancient China, there was a famous musician named Yu Boya. He was highly talented in playing the guqin. His music was so beautiful that it could touch people's hearts.
One day, while playing the guqin by the riverside, Yu Boya met Zhong Ziqi. Although Zhong Ziqi was only a woodcutter (伐木者), he was able to understand the feelings and meanings expressed through Yu Boya’s music.
Zhong Ziqi could tell when Yu Boya was playing for the mountains or waters.
This deep understanding helped to build a strong friendship between them. They became close friends who could communicate through the language of music.
Unluckily, Zhong Ziqi died soon. Yu Boya was really sad. In memory of his dear friend, he broke his guqin, saying never to play it again.
Their story is popular through the ages as a symbol of true friendship. It shows that real friends do not necessarily need to be the same. No matter who you are, and what you do, true friendship can bring people together in a way that nothing else can.

Mr. Chen is a zookeeper. He has spent years protecting wild animals.
One day, Mr. Chen was walking near a forest when he noticed a small bird on the ground. Its wing was hurt (受伤的), and it couldn’t fly. He picked it up and took it home. Every day, he fed the bird and helped it grow stronger. After a few weeks, the bird could fly again. Mr. Chen took it back to the forest and set it free. Seeing the bird fly happily into the sky, he smiled.
But Mr. Chen’s kindness didn’t stop there. He learned that many wild animals were in danger because of hunting and pollution (污染). He decided to do more. He joined a wildlife protection group and started teaching people about the importance of saving animals. He helped save other injured animals, and returned them to nature.
Once he even saved a deer caught in a trap (陷阱). It was a difficult thing, but he worked carefully until the deer was free. The deer looked at him for a while before running back into the forest.

Nature is a wonderful gift to us. Spring is full of singing birds and blooming flowers. Summer has green trees providing cool shade. Autumn brings plenty of sweet fruits. And winter covers everything with white snow. However, the number of wild animals is getting smaller because people hunt them. Ecosystems are also damaged by some bad behaviors, such as cutting down forests. Then, natural disasters such as sandstorms and floods happen more often.
