What makes Yancheng so special is its “three cities and three rivers” design. The city has three walls — an inner city, a middle city, and an outer city. Outside each wall, there is a river. These three rivers run around the city, 62 rings of water. This kind of design is the only one in China. That is 63 people call Yancheng the “No.1 Water City in China.”
For a long time, Yancheng 64 (forget). But in the 20th century, archaeologists (考古学家) began to study it. They found many important relics (文物), 65 ancient canoes, bronze weapons, pottery, and tools made of jade. These 66 (discovery) help us understand how people lived, fought, and worked more than 2000 years ago.
Today, Yancheng is not only a protected historical site 67 also a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can walk along the ancient walls, take a boat ride on the rivers, and enjoy the beautiful 68 (nature) sights. There is also a theme park called Spring and Autumn Yancheng where people can watch performances (表演), try on 69 (tradition) clothes, and learn about ancient Chinese culture in a fun way.
If you ever visit Jiangsu, don’t miss this 70 (amaze) water city! It is a place where history comes to life, and you can truly feel the spirit of ancient China.

If I Were an Archaeologist
If I were an archaeologist, I would go to the ancient Silk Road to dig into the remains of a lost kingdom.
I would work carefully with my team so that we could find pottery, coins and other things. The discovery would be such a surprise that it would amaze people worldwide. These things would show how people lived and traded long ago.
This dream makes me feel proud of our history. It also teaches me that archaeologists’ work is meaningful—they help us connect with the past and treasure our culture.

Come and Discover the Roots of Shanghai
Guangfulin Relics Park (广富林遗址公园) is about four kilometers away from Sheshan Hill.
In 1958, while digging a new waterway, some local farmers found several pieces of ancient pottery. In 1961, archaeologists (考古学家) began a serious study there. They discovered a large number of pottery vases, spinning wheels, dishes and knives. They also discovered two tombs (坟墓). These discoveries proved the existence of a 4,000-year-old culture. The park includes a farmland protection area, a cultural zone and a Chinese-style water town. Rice, corn, sunflowers, pears and peaches are grown in the farmland zone. The water town provides a perfect place for tourists to stay the night.
The cultural zone is the most important part of the park. It consists of ten museums and memorial halls (纪念堂). The most popular one is the Guangfulin Cultural Museum. It’s built underwater with its roofs on the surface.
You can find many shops, cafés and teahouses in the park. Visitors can find a quiet place with books and tea at the Duoyun Bookstore, for example. Events like lantern shows and archaeological lectures are held in the park throughout the year.Address: No.3260, Guangfulin Road, Songjiang, Shanghai

The Terracotta Army is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. It lies in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. In 1974, some farmers were digging a well when they found pieces of a clay soldier. This accident led to the discovery of a huge underground army.
The Terracotta Army was built over 2,000 years ago to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in his afterlife. So far, archaeologists have found about 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots and 670 horses. Each soldier has a different face and expression. This shows that the ancient workers were so creative and skilled that they could make every figure unique.
The discovery is such an important one that it has changed our understanding of ancient China. It proves that people in the Qin Dynasty had advanced technology and art. The site is so popular that millions of visitors come to see it every year.
However, protecting the Terracotta Army is not easy. The painted colours fade quickly when they meet the air. Archaeologists are working hard so that future generations can still enjoy this wonder. They use modern technology to help preserve the soldiers. Bit by bit, they are bringing out the secrets of the Qin Dynasty.
