I’ve always enjoyed walking. However, never did I imagine I’d end up walking over 200 kilometers in 10 days, becoming a fan of walking holidays, and developing self-guided hiking routes in Portugal as part of my business.
I used to be someone who was content with an easy three-hour walk, but I became an experienced multi-day (多日的) hiker. My change began with a taste of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, an ancient route through Portugal to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain.
Back in 2013, I did a guided one-day hike along one of the most beautiful sections of the Camino, north of Ponte de Lima. It’s also one of the most challenging so it was hard work, but the views from the top of Labruja Mountain made the climb worthwhile.
My guides were so crazy about the excitement of arriving at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral after the challenges of day after day on the Camino that I began to think I might want to give it a try.
Fast forward a few years, I set off from Barcelos with a friend of mine to follow the Portuguese Camino de Santiago.
Apart from suffering from back pain, I thought I was quite fit. However, nothing had prepared me for how I would feel at the end of each walking day. We were averaging about 20 kilometers per day. When we reached our hotel, I hardly had enough energy to take a shower or find food. I had expected plenty of sightseeing, but it turned out to be very little.
Quickly, I realized the takeaway of this unique travel experience: The Camino was all about making the most of the journey rather than the destination. For me, that was quite a change in thinking as I was usually all about getting to where I wanted to be as soon as possible so that I could start exploring. It was, perhaps, also my first step on the path towards mindfulness.
24.What was the author’s impression of the hike in 2013?
A.The route was less challenging. B.The mountaintop views were amazing.
C.The mountain climb was dangerous. D.The time spent there was not worthwhile.
25.Why did the author want to follow the Portuguese Camino de Santiago?
A.He was inspired by his guides. B.He intended to please his friend.
C.He was impressed by kind locals. D.He looked forward to keeping fit.
26.How did the author feel at the end of each walking day during the multi-day hike?
A.Very scared. B.Rather energetic.
C.Extremely tired. D.Particularly calm.
27.What can be known about the author’s unique travel experience?
A.It let him down in general. B.It had a great impact on him.
C.It failed to teach him a lesson. D.It lived up to his expectations.

A lunch break is an important and often necessary part of our work or school days. And now we’re spoilt (惯坏的) with a lot of places to buy our lunch from, all offering attractive dishes and sandwiches to eat on the go.
But our appetite for buying food for our lunchtime is not just costing us money, there might be a cost in terms of damaging our planet too. Just grabbing a sandwich, potato chips and maybe a cake and coffee can produce at least four items of waste. Paper boxes, cups, wrappers and plastic knives and forks are all part of our disposable (一次性的) feast in addition to the food waste we create. Some experts say throwing away food, which produces methane (甲烷) as it becomes gradually destroyed, is a bigger cause of climate change than plastic waste.
But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. Tessa Tricks from the group says, “People are saying that they are buying food to take out because life has got busier.” And she says people think they are being more efficient; but she argues that it’s usually healthier and cheaper to make your own lunch. It means you can eat the things you really want and make the quantity that you actually need.
Of course, preparing your lunch is another thing to fit into your morning hurry of getting ready for work, so if you haven’t got time and you are going to buy lunch, an alternative that Hubbub suggests is to take your own containers to a shop and ask them to put your food in it. The idea of using reusable coffee cups for hot drinks and refillable water bottles has already proved successful, so this could be another step in the right direction.
28.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Buying lunch costs a lot of money.
B.Eating fast food is harmful to health.
C.Buying lunch leads to environmental damage.
D.Making lunch saves our money and the planet.
29.What does Hubbub suggest doing in paragraph 3?
A.Eating whatever you want. B.Making lunch by yourself.
C.Stopping eating packed lunches. D.Trying to be more efficient in work.
30.What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Buying lunch. B.Using reusable coffee cups.
C.Taking your own containers. D.Using refillable water bottles.
31.What does the author call on us to do?
A.Make full use of lunchtime.
B.Eat properly to keep healthy.
C.Do what you can to reduce pollution.
D.Rethink our lunch habits to help our planet.

Astronomers have discovered a thin atmosphere around a small object in the outer solar system for the first time. The object was long thought too small to hold an atmosphere.
Thousands of icy bodies called trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) (海王星外天体) lie in the Kuiper Belt at the solar system’s far end. Pluto, the largest TNO, is the only one with a thin atmosphere. Smaller TNOs were believed unable to keep atmospheres due to their weak gravity and cold temperatures.
Recently, a Japanese team spotted a thin atmosphere around a TNO named 2002 XV93. While Pluto is 2,377 km wide, 2002 XV93 is only about 500 km across. The discovery changes our understanding of small Kuiper Belt objects.
In January 2024, the team observed a rare event — 2002 XV93 passed in front of a bright star. This is called a stellar occultation As it moved, the star’s light weakened slowly, not sharply. A sharp drop means no atmosphere; a slow weakening indicates gas is changing the light’s path. The data showed a brightness change lasting about 1.5 seconds — clear evidence of a very thin atmosphere around 2002 XV93.
The atmosphere is 5 — 10 million times thinner than Earth’s. Scientists think two things could cause it. First, ice volcanoes might give out gases from beneath 2002 XV93’s surface. Second, an impact from a space rock could also give out gases. An atmosphere caused by an impact might only last hundreds of years. If ice volcano activity keeps adding gas, the atmosphere could last much longer.
Scientists plan more observations and will use the James Webb Space Telescope to study its makeup. Dr. Scott Sheppard, a TNO expert, called the finding exciting. “It shows the Kuiper Belt is not cold and dead but full of activity,” he said. This breakthrough opens a new window into how small worlds can hold atmospheres.
32.Why did people believe smaller TNOs had no atmospheres?
A.Too icy surfaces. B.Frequent space rock hits.
C.Low gravity and cold weather. D.Great distance from the Sun.
33.How did the Japanese team prove 2002 XV93 has an atmosphere?
A.By studying the ice on its surface.
B.By analyzing data of ice volcanoes.
C.By observing a gradual drop in starlight.
D.By measuring its exact size and shape.
34.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A.Earth’s air. B.A space rock.
C.An ice volcano. D.2002 XV93’s atmosphere.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.How to Observe a Stellar Occultation
B.A TNO with a Surprising Atmosphere
C.Pluto vs.2002 XV93: A Size Comparison
D.The Kuiper Belt: A Cold and Dead Region
Renewable energy sources are abundant, regenerated by nature, and emit little to no greenhouse gases. Yet fossil fuels still account for nearly 60% of electricity generation. 36 Between 2015 and 2024, renewable electricity capacity jumped by 140%, while fossil fuel capacity grew only 16%. So why is there still an urgent need to accelerate the renewable energy transition?
Renewables are all around us. About 80% of the global population lives in countries that are net-importers of fossil fuels. 37 The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates that 90 percent of the world’s electricity can and should come from renewable energy by 2050.
Renewable energy creates jobs. 38 For every dollar invested, renewables create three times as many jobs as fossil fuels. The IEA estimates that the transition towards net-zero emissions will lead to an overall increase in energy sector jobs: while about 5 million jobs in fossil fuel production could be lost by 2030, an estimated 14 million new jobs would be created in clean energy.
39 In 2024, $2 trillion (万亿) went into clean energy — $800 billion more than fossil fuels and up almost 70 per cent in ten years. Furthermore, energy-related carbon dioxide emissions are growing more slowly than the global economy. 40 However, investments in renewables will finally pay off.
A.Renewable energy makes economic sense.
B.The good news is that cleaner sources are gaining ground.
C.Clean energy sector jobs already outnumber fossil fuel jobs.
D.In contrast, renewable energy sources are available in all countries.
E.The initial cost can be overwhelming for countries with limited resources.
F.This means that more than 30 million jobs could be created in clean energy.
G.Emissions growth slowed while the global economy expanded by 3 percent.

One of the most 56 (interest) things about bees is their amazing ability to find their way home. Even after flying to places 57 are hundreds of kilometers away, they can always return to their home quickly.
Scientists have studied this ability for years, and they finally found out that bees can use the sun to navigate (导航) 58 (correct). Using the position of the sun, they can tell exactly which 59 (direct) they need to fly.
But on cloudy days, when the sun is hidden, bees can still find their way 60 using special parts of their eyes. These special eyes allow bees to see ultraviolet light (紫外线), which humans cannot see. This special ability is very 61 (use) for bees, because it helps them find flowers to get nectar (花蜜) even 62 bad weather days.
Scientists also found that bees can remember different 63 (place) and tell the time of day based on the sun’s position. They even can tell 64 the next food source is, so they can tell other bees where to go through their special dance. This amazing ability helps bees work more efficiently and support the whole ecosystem, which is very important for 65 (farm) around the world.

“Ally, why do you always use that reusable bottle? I just take a plastic one — it’s much easier and more convenient for daily use,” Serena said, opening a new plastic water bottle in her hand and taking a quick drink of water. Ally sighed, tapping her metal bottle with a few cute little environmental protection drawings on it. “Plastic bottles are seriously hurting the Earth, Serena. Didn’t you listen carefully to Ms. Lopez’s talk about the environmental pollution and protection yesterday?”
Serena rolled her eyes impatiently, “It’s just one bottle. What can one person do to make a difference?” She threw the empty plastic bottle into the classroom rubbish can. Ally’d tried to make Serena see the big picture for weeks, and now she had an idea. “Let’s ask Mr. Smith. He’s the science teacher, and he knows all about the environment,” she said, holding Serena’s arm before she could walk away.
In science class, Ally put up her hand right after Mr. Smith finished his first talk. “Sir, how many plastic water bottles do people throw away every day?” The whole class looked at her. Mr. Smith’s eyes lit up at the question. “Great question, Ally. Around the world, we throw away more than one million plastic water bottles every minute. And most of them never get recycled.”
Serena’s mouth dropped open; she’d never thought the number was that big. Mr. Smith’s voice turned serious as he asked the class, “What happens to these bottles after we throw them away?” The room went quiet. “They end up in landfills (垃圾填埋场), where they take hundreds of years to break down, or in the ocean, hurting sea animals and getting into human food chain,” he explained.
All of a sudden, Serena stood up, her face turning red with regret. “Sir, is there anything we can do? It feels like our small actions don’t mean anything,” Mr. Smith smiled gently and shook his head. “Small actions add up fast. Stop using plastic bottles, or start a recycling activity at school — every bottle recycled is one less in the ocean.”
Serena nodded hard as she listened to Mr. Smith’s words.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

M: Welcome to Living Legends. Our monthly music show tells the stories of some of our greatest musicians. Today, we’re exploring the history, music and impact of one of the world’s greatest bands, the Beatles. Regular listeners will know I’m a huge fan of the band. I play Beatles’ songs every Saturday on my Sixties Sounds show, and when it comes to my daily Drivetime show, I play them every chance I get! Now, here we go. We’ll explore the stories behind their most famous recordings and discuss the challenges they faced, both as individuals and as a group. Now, let’s start at the very beginning with a song from the Quarrymen, the rock and roll group formed by a teenager John Lennon in 1956. Paul McCartney joined in 1957, followed by George Harrison, one year later. In Spite of All the Danger is the first recording that brings together all three future Beatles members. Mainly written by McCartney, sung by Lennon, and featuring two Harrison guitar solos, it’s a great example of their early sound.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.B

根据第二段“But our appetite for buying food for our lunchtime is not just costing us money, there might be a cost in terms of damaging our planet too. (但是我们外购午餐的喜好不仅仅花费我们的金钱,还可能带来损害地球的代价。)”可知,第二段主要讲述外购午餐会造成环境破坏。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段“But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. (但无论哪一类污染的破坏力最强,一个名为Hubbub的环保组织提出,解决办法就是自带便当。)”可知,Hubbub建议自己制作午餐。
30.词句猜测题。根据最后一段“Of course, preparing your lunch is another thing to fit into your morning hurry of getting ready for work, so if you haven’t got time and you are going to buy lunch, an alternative that Hubbub suggests is to take your own containers to a shop and ask them to put your food in it. The idea of using reusable coffee cups for hot drinks and refillable water bottles has already proved successful, so this could be another step in the right direction. (当然,在早上匆忙准备上班的间隙再准备午餐,又是一件麻烦事。所以如果你没时间、打算外购午餐,Hubbub推荐的替代方案是自带容器到商店,让店员把食物装进你的容器里。使用可重复利用咖啡杯盛装热饮、可循环补水水杯的做法已被证实可行,因此这会是朝着正确方向迈出的又一步。)”可知,代词this指代前文提到的“take your own containers”这一做法。
根据第三段“But regardless of what causes the most damage, the solution, according to an environmental campaign group called Hubbub, is to eat packed lunches. (但无论哪一类污染的破坏力最强,一个名为Hubbub的环保组织提出,解决办法就是自带便当。)”以及最后一段“Of course, preparing your lunch is another thing to fit into your morning hurry of getting ready for work, so if you haven’t got time and you are going to buy lunch, an alternative that Hubbub suggests is to take your own containers to a shop and ask them to put your food in it. (当然,在早上匆忙准备上班的间隙再准备午餐,又是一件麻烦事。所以如果你没时间、打算外购午餐,Hubbub推荐的替代方案是自带容器到商店,让店员把食物装进你的容器里。)”可知,作者倡导改变午餐习惯、减轻对地球的伤害,呼吁我们重新思考午餐习惯,保护地球。
D
根据第二段的句子“Smaller TNOs were believed unable to keep atmospheres due to their weak gravity and cold temperatures. (人们认为较小的海王星外天体由于引力弱和温度低,无法保持大气层。)”可知,人们认为小型海王星外天体没有大气层是因为它们引力低且天气寒冷。
33.细节理解题。根据第四段的句子“As it moved, the star’s light weakened slowly, not sharply. A sharp drop means no atmosphere; a slow weakening indicates gas is changing the light’s path. (当它移动时,恒星的光线缓慢减弱,而不是急剧减弱。急剧下降意味着没有大气层;缓慢减弱表明气体正在改变光的路径。)”可知,团队通过观察恒星光线的逐渐减弱来证明2002 XV93存在大气层。
34.词句猜测题。根据第四段的句子“The data showed a brightness change lasting about 1.5 seconds — clear evidence of a very thin atmosphere around 2002 XV93. (数据显示亮度变化持续了大约1.5秒,这清楚地证明了2002 XV93周围存在非常稀薄的大气层。)”和划线单词所在的句子“The atmosphere is 5 — 10 million times thinner than Earth’s. Scientists think two things could cause it. (这层大气层比地球的稀薄500万到1000万倍。科学家认为有两种原因可能导致它的形成。)”可知,“it”指代前文提到的2002 XV93的大气层。
35.主旨大意题。 通读全文,文章核心内容是首次在小型海王星外天体2002 XV93周围发现令人惊讶的稀薄大气层,打破了传统认知,并介绍了发现过程、大气成因及科学意义。第一段即点明主题“Astronomers have discovered a thin atmosphere around a small object in the outer solar system for the first time. The object was long thought too small to hold an atmosphere.
【答案】36.B 37.D 38.C 39.A 40.E
上文“Renewable energy sources are abundant, regenerated by nature, and emit little to no greenhouse gases. Yet fossil fuels still account for nearly 60% of electricity generation. (可再生能源资源丰富,由自然再生,且几乎不排放或极少排放温室气体。然而,化石燃料仍占电力生产总量的近60%。)”提出化石能源占比高的现状,下文“Between 2015 and 2024, renewable electricity capacity jumped by 140%, while fossil fuel capacity grew only 16%. (2015年至2024年间,可再生电力装机容量增长了140%,而化石燃料发电装机容量仅增长了16%。)”用数据说明可再生能源的快速增长,空处需承上启下,引出清洁能源发展的积极趋势。因此B项“The good news is that cleaner sources are gaining ground. (好消息是,清洁能源正逐步占据上风。)”符合语境,既承接上文的转折逻辑,又引出下文的增长数据。
37.上文“About 80% of the global population lives in countries that are net-importers of fossil fuels. (全球约80%的人口居住在化石燃料净进口国。)”说明化石能源分布不均、依赖进口的局限,下文“The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates that 90 percent of the world’s electricity can and should come from renewable energy by 2050. (国际可再生能源机构(IRENA)估计,到2050年,全球90%的电力可以且应当来自可再生能源。)”展望可再生能源的发展前景,空处需对比二者的分布差异。因此D项“In contrast, renewable energy sources are available in all countries. (相比之下,可再生能源在所有国家都可获取。)”符合语境,承接上文化石能源的分布劣势,点明可再生能源的普适性,为下文的发展前景做铺垫。
38.本段主旨句是“Renewable energy creates jobs. (可再生能源创造就业机会。)”,下文“For every dollar invested, renewables create three times as many jobs as fossil fuels. (每投资一美元,可再生能源创造的就业岗位是化石燃料的三倍。)”用投入产出数据佐证可再生能源的优势,空处需衔接主题与数据,说明就业岗位的现状。因此C项“Clean energy sector jobs already outnumber fossil fuel jobs. (清洁能源领域的岗位数量已超过化石燃料领域。)”符合语境,承接创造就业的主题,下文的效率数据为其提供支撑。
39.下文“In 2024, $2 trillion (万亿) went into clean energy — $800 billion more than fossil fuels and up almost 70 per cent in ten years. Furthermore, energy-related carbon dioxide emissions are growing more slowly than the global economy. (2024年,全球投入清洁能源的资金达到2万亿美元,比化石燃料多出8000亿美元,十年间增长近70%。此外,与能源相关的二氧化碳排放增长速度也低于全球经济增速。)”和下文“However, investments in renewables will finally pay off. (然而,对可再生能源的投资终将获得回报。)”主要围绕可再生能源的投资与经济价值展开,空处为段首主旨句,需概括本段核心。因此A项“Renewable energy makes economic sense. (可再生能源具备经济价值。)”符合语境,能够总领全段,契合下文投资规模与长期回报的内容。
40.下文“However, investments in renewables will finally pay off. (然而,对可再生能源的投资终将获得回报。)”含转折,肯定可再生能源具有长期回报,空处应提及发展可再生能源的挑战与难题。因此E项“The initial cost can be overwhelming for countries with limited resources. (对于资源有限的国家而言,初期成本可能高得难以承担。)”符合语境,点明了可再生能源发展的初期成本障碍,与下文投资终将回报形成转折关系。

It was a (n) 41 day for Mr and Mrs Lin. The old couple was on holiday at a 42 resort They were 43 a walk in the early afternoon when suddenly the ground started to 44 . In just two minutes, everything changed completely! They were in the middle of a very strong 45 !
The Lins tried to 46 some other people first. One by one, they found 23 other people. Many were tourists, young and old. Soon it was dark and it started to rain heavily. Some cried and some lost hope.
At that moment, Mr Lin decided to take the lead (指引). He called for everyone’s attention and said, “The roads are 47 . We can’t go down the mountain until tomorrow. We must 48 here tonight.” They all knew that they were in 49 . Then Mr Lin and a few young men went back to the ruins to 50 food and blankets (毯子). They found some, but not 51 for everyone. The young people gave theirs to the older ones. After that, Mr Lin divided (分成) the people into five groups. Each group had a leader. He also 52 all the mobile phones and made sure each group had one. They used them as flashlights (手电筒). Every 30 minutes, the group leaders flashed their mobile phones, and the 53 in the dark rainy night made everyone feel safe.

56.interesting 57.which/that 58.correctly 59.direction 60.by 61.useful 62.on 63.places 64.where 65.farmers

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Serena’s unconcern turned into determination as Mr. Smith ended the lesson.

After school, the two friends walked out of the classroom, planning something serious.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Serena’s unconcern turned into determination as Mr. Smith ended the lesson. When the break bell rang, she took Ally’s hand and decided to start a recycling activity, planning to place recycling bins in every hallway. She would design posters to remind the schoolmates to recycle plastic bottles and donate the money to help protect ocean animals. Ally responded gladly with a wide smile, and the two set to work writing down their plan during the break. Serena also decided to stop using plastic bottles, and to buy a reusable one like Ally’s.
After school, the two friends walked out of the classroom, planning something serious. They went to the teacher’s office, voices steady as they talked about their idea to Mr. Smith, and he agreed at once to help them. Over the next few days, they hung simple signs around the school and told their classmates to join in. Everyone helped bring empty plastic bottles, and soon the bins were full. Serena bought a reusable bottle like Ally’s, and they felt proud of their small plan that was really helping protect the Earth one bottle at a time.

A Visit to the Natural Disaster Museum
Last Thursday, our school organized a visit to the Natural Disaster Museum. The activity was intended to raise students’ awareness of disaster prevention and teach us useful self-rescue skills.
Walking through various exhibition halls, we watched vivid videos recording different natural disasters and listened to a guide explaining effective ways to escape danger when disasters struck. What impressed us most was the interactive experience zone, where we practiced correct protective measures under professional guidance.
Having gained valuable knowledge, every student thought highly of this meaningful activity, hoping more similar educational trips would be held in the future.
